I see lots of new traffic on the group's web site, but where is the
digest? I received the g-books, but not the g3-5-list.

Saturday night's digest finally arrived. The long header shows one 17
hour delay in transit. Sunday night's digest arrived within the
minute of being sent.

Current Status MDDs / Security Update 2008-006

2008-09-29 Thread Charles Davis

Did an install to an empty partition, of OSX.4.x, upgraded to 4.11,
and thru Sec Upd 2008-005.

This installation does NOT exhibit the 'Error Message' on Network
Screen problem.

So using Migration Assistant, moved EVERYTHING, for the MDD dual
1.25, and the MDD dual 1.0 to separate accounts -- which now do not
exhibit the 'Error Message on Network Screen problem' ---

So that cures the problem, right! Not quite.

Using the account based on the MDD 1.0 --- Mail works OK

Mozilla works
Firefox works
Webkit -- can't find Internet connection.
Safari -- can't find Internet connection.

Using account based on MDD 1.25

Same symptoms

Using new (install) account

Mail needs setup
otherwise, same symptoms.

Keyboard skins for original USB iMac KB

2008-09-29 Thread GrammarGeek

Hi Listers!

I'm LEM and Googled out on this, so I'm hoping some of you can help.
I'm looking for skins/protectors for about half a dozen original USB
keyboards that shipped with the iMac G3s back in the day (model
M2452). I've found resources for the Apple Pro USB KB (M7083), and
certainly many for the current line of aluminum KBs, but nothing for
the original.

Any ideas?

card to compare it too, I could easily be wrong. It also says BT9055
 on it.

If it also has four SIMM sockets on it then it is a PDS High
Performance Video (HPV) card for the PowerMac 6100, 7100 and 8100. It
will also work in the Power Computing Power 80/100/120 and the Radius
81/110 and the Apple PowerMac 9150.

In all cases it installs in the PDS slot.

There were two versions (three if you count Power Computing's
version). One has 1 MB of VRAM on board and is expandable to 2 MB by
installing four 256KB VRAM SIMMs in the sockets. The second has 2 MB
of VRAM on board and is expandable to 4 MB by installing four 512KB
VRAM SIMMs in the sockets.

The Power Computing version has both a Mac DB15 video connector and a
VGA HD15 video connector and a small switch on the board used to
select which output is being used. AFAICT, all of the Power
Computing HPV cards are the 2/4 MB version.

If you are connected on a LAN and have previously set your Network

Buy/Sell lists?

2008-09-29 Thread diane

I rejoined the LEM Swaplist which I fell off of when it migrated to
Google to sell a few things. Somewhere along the lines they now
require a full name and city/state when posting to the list. I listed
my zip code which is what I used to do, but my message was rejected
since I did not follow the rules.

Are there any other lists that are maybe a little more private? I do
not feel like posting that much info to over 3000 people on the off
chance that someone may be interested in my obscure items.

And yes, I am full aware there are many other ways to find my full
name and address, and that there have been for many many years.

Thanks,

J20 is the SDRAM slot on the top side of the logic board. Replacing
this requires that you remove the 4 T15 screws that hold the bottom to
the top part of the case. (Don't forget to use new thermal paste and
to tighten these 4 screws to 17 inch pounds when you reassemble the
case.)

J22 is the user-accessible SO-DIMM slot that requires only that you
loosen the four captive Phillips head screws and remove the bottom
plate. HTH.

Give a phony name and street address. If someone expresses interest,
you can straighten it out with them at that time. Half the sellers

The reason the stupid rule came into being was so that persons could

Are there any other lists that are maybe a little more private? I do

3000? You're off by several magnitudes.
Google Groups postings are full indexed by Google.

Re: Buy/Sell lists?

2008-09-29 Thread B Woods

Give a phony name and street address. If someone expresses interest,
you can straighten it out with them at that time. Half the sellers
 are doing it this way.

Speaking as a Swaplist nanny, this is a bad idea.

The reason the stupid rule came into being was so that persons could
decide if the seller and buyer were geographically near. A ZIP code
was all that was ever necessary but administrative pride got in the
 way of good sense.

This is not the reason for the rule.

I would also like to clarify that the Swaplist rules only ask for your
name and city/state/zip in public postings. There is no need to post
your street address to the list. Here's the mini-FAQ with relevant
rules:

http://groups.google.com/group/lemswap/browse_thread/thread/1853a96bfcd7d3f9#

These rules are for the protection of all swappers.

If anyone wants to discuss these rules further the place to do it
would be the LEMlists group, not here.
