That depends on what you are willing to accept as 'running'.

'Open Firmware'IS a FORTH operating system.
There are FORTH resources available on-line --- try GOOGLE

To give yourself a tantalizing look at what may be possible, at the
OF prompt, enterwords (return)

You will have to have at least started to look into FORTH, to make
much sense, but there is a lot that can be done.

Also, check 'Open Firmware' in Apple's Documentation archives.

Running a G4 Mac, off Open Firmware.

2008-11-15 Thread Mullin9

Is it possible to run a G4 Mac, without an OS, or a working HDD, by
using "Open Firmware"?
I did a few things
"open cd" open the CD tray.
"macboot" boots up the Mac.

can I use the "Open Firmware" as an OS, the way I used
text (command line) linux years ago.?

Thank You

G'day

On my iMac, 10.5.5, new mailboxes are added using the plus (+) sign at
the bottom left of the Mail app window.

Is this what you're after?

Anne, it can help to compare the info you put in your signature below
with the info at lowendmac's web site beginning at this page which
puts things in perspective. You seem to have the latest Penryn (April
2008) version:

The Macintel list is really not for you, but you may find something
interesting on occasion. It is better to subscribe to the iMac List:

Have you sorted out whether your parent's iMac has an optical drive
that will read DVDs? You are looking for something in the profiles
info that says DVD, not just CD-RW.
