A couple of weeks ago, I learned this trick on Mac OS X hints website. to modify the file that shows the information, go to: file:///System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/AboutThisMac.strings open it with textedit. If you see the following lines that look like this, except with leopard's info but want to change it to Snow Leopard, copy this: /* The format string used to generate the Build text field in the About This Mac window. */ /* The %@ sequence is replaced by the build number. */ ABOUT_BOX_BUILD_FORMAT_STRING = Build 10C540; /* The format string used to generate the Version text field in the About This Mac window. */ /* The %@ sequence is replaced by the version number. */ ABOUT_BOX_VERSION_FORMAT_STRING = Version 10.6.2; Then save it to the desktop and uave it as: AboutThisMac.Strings using that specific format, otherwise it won't work. Then drag it to the English.Iproj folder, authenticate it, replace it, and click on the About this Mac button on the Apple Menu. You will get the same result I did. --Sent from my Power mac G4 Sawtooth. OH OH busted. Here's a good question. When i run into a program (let's say it was Front Row)... I know how to install the code, but I can't see the PowerPC code or the intel code. When i open it in textedit or any other program, i get just a full page of codes. I am afraid of modifying anything because i might prevent the program from worrking ever again. I know what i'm doing, but is half the page intel and PPC code? or is it PPC then intel and then PPC and intel... I might find a pattern, but it may take a while. I have seen intel codes from windows computers before, so i should see a difference between the PPC code and the intel one. It may take a while though. Other than that, the only way i can have Snow Leopard (supposedly) on any PPc mac is by modifying the system profiler info on leopard and the about this mac window file in the leopard, and change it to the SL wallpaper, so basically it's leopard with a different wallpaper and wrong system info. lol On 4/20/10, Baha Ata baha...@gmail.com wrote: hmmm... thanks for that i will try on my 9600 2010/4/21 Doug McNutt dougl...@macnauchtan.com: At 04:49 +0300 4/21/10, Baha Ata wrote: And why not make a Firefox browser for Mac OS 9... The only way i know of RIGHT NOW that Snow Leopard's core image will work is by getting a newer video card. The core image does not depend on the processor arcetechture, it depends on if the video card can support it. an Nvidia GeForce 6800GT should work with 256MB of VRAM. I am not trying to be ugly in saying this, but if you really did know what you were doing, you would see which part of the code was PPC and which part x86. And, unless yo are working with a source code file, the only thing you will see by opening a program in textedit is object code which is produced by the compiler. In order to see what the programmer wrote, you first need to decompile the program, and then look through what is produced by the decompiler in order to see what has been done. And yes, if you modify any of this, you will keep the program from ever working again. Re: I have an idea...
Btw i did try the Q emulator, and it's ok. The installation took 19 Hours for SL, but startup takes 20 seconds. Heh, i guess it's only slow when it's installing something. My PM G4 Sawtooth isn't that amazing to many of you as you all well know that the AGP version is 11 years old, but somehow my system is holding up under Leopard better than i thought it did. Here are the specs: 400Mhz PowerPC G4 2GB SDRAM PC100 80GB HDD (x2 40GB HDD's) 320GB Network drive ATI Radeon 9000 64MB VRAM (i pulled it from a 2002 quicksilver) Mac OS X 10.5.8 (10.6.2 in the about this mac window since i hacked it) I don't know why, but it's just simply fast. No special dual core processors or anything... it's just fast. I have verizon Fios hooked up to it via Airport on it though. The youtube videos are fast, i can run front row without performance issues and all that other stuff. I always Max out the RAM when it comes to all of my Macs. For my Sawtooth (i'm using it now), the max is 2GB, i'll get it 2GB. For my Intel iMac, it can handle 8GB, i got it 8GB. For my clamshell iBook, It can get 544MB of RAM, i got it 544MB of RAM. Computers that you think are slow really aren't that slow when you give them a chance to shine with Maximum specs. -- Sent from my Power mac G4 Sawtooth. -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs. It's more like a PICT. From the looks of the pictures the form looks as though it's mostly circular arcs and some text along a curve. I have used Vectorworks (sorry, it's expensive) to import a JPG and put it on a layer. It's then not too hard to find center points of arcs and redraw them on a transparent layer in front of the picture. There are several software techniques for wrapping fonts along a curve. They all depend on an ability to rotate a character by a calculated angle. The Fleur de lis is a bit harder. I can't even remember how to spell it. Once you have the coordinates of arc centers and radii it's quite possible to prepare DXF files with a text editor or a perl script. Start by generating a DXF with your chosen version of Autocad or other compatible CAD program. Put some arcs and things you might need in it to use as samples and start changing them around. Mind the DXF though. The format changes with each version produced by AutoDesk. After that you can program one of the modern embroidery machines to make patches. Good lock with that. Inappropriate Posts
Folks, A couple of quick notes from the list nannies / moderators. Occasionally completely off topic posts make it to the G-List. Either by accident or on purpose. We react and act on them as we can. The best help that the members could be in this is to not post any replies to obvious off topic posts. We try and kill the thread as soon as we can, but sometimes the Google Groups system does not cooperate and allows additional posts through. So again, if a completely off topic post gets through, DO NOT respond on list to them. Also, attachments of any type are not allowed on the list. There are many reasons including, but not limited to: There are still members on dial up that on a good day get only 21-24k download speeds. Have you ever had to download an unwanted attached file that takes 10 minutes to download? Attachments can harbor viruses and malware. While most of us are pretty safe using Macs, some people read the list on windows machines and are, generally speaking, more vulnerable. So, please, do not post any attachments to the list of any type. The G5 has one 1/8 stereo output (Line-out), It also has 2 dvi video outputs... ... I have two powered speakers and powered sub in the office that I have currently wired with 1/8 stereo male to 2 1/8 stereo female... THEN, 1/8 stereo to speakers and 1/8 stereo to sub (with a mono adapter) Now, the hard part, how to get (share?) the audio through the wall to the front room set of speakers and sub? I only need office OR front room at one time as I'm going to use the monitor/speakers in the living room for a make shift media viewer with front row. Does that make sense? I think it would be a bit easier without all the powered speakers and a regular amplifier, but I don't have the room for the amplifier or the money to get one really Hmmm I think what I need is some kind of speaker switch box? Can not get it to start up from DVD player
Start up from DVD refused Can not get it to start up from DVD player with 10.5 system disk. Will not show disk in player using OPTION start up or holding C Key. A start using Apple and S key reveals good load from hd and running this command works: /sbin/fsck -fy with good test on hd. The question should be: Why doesn't it boot with the C key, or Why isn't is shown with the Option key? Both of these should work. I'd think a good place to start might me resetting the PRAM/NVRAM and then trying the C or the Option again.
