Buying a G4 Cube less power supply
Hi all, Have a chance this weekend to buy a 450mhz G4 Cube fairly cheap ($75)... less power supply. The specs aren't impressive... 64mb RAM and 20gb HD. Wouldn't mind having it for the collection, but I've heard these power supplies are hard to find and not cheap. I've got a G4 Sawtooth not being used and was wondering if the power supply could somehow be modified to work with a G4 Cube?... or would it be better to just look for an original power supply or find another G4 Cube deal with one included? Flashing PCI video cards for G4's - tape pins?
Hi all, I'm getting ready to flash a BFG / Geforce 6200 and a Radeon 9250... both standard PCI cards... to use in my MDD G4 1ghz towers. Been studying up on the process at The Mac Elite website where it mentions that AGP cards require tape to be placed over some of the pins due to Apple's non standard AGP configuration... but I can't find any info where this would be required for a PCI card. Anyone know? Booting G4 MDD via external DVD drive?
Will a Mac G4 Mirror Drive Door model boot via an external double layer DVD drive via USB? Want to install Leopard going this route if possible. Otherwise I'll just install a DL DVD in it. Thanks much for the info. Just realized I can try Target Disk Mode and hook the MDD up to one of my other G4's with an internal DL DVD combo drive. That should work. Beige G3 - CD drive sometimes not recognized
Hi all, Have a 300mhz Beige G3 running 9.2.2 and 10.4.8 Sometimes the G3 can access the CD drive and other times it can't. When it can't, a PRAM reset via the keyboard will always get it recognized and going again... but it may become unrecognized again after a few minutes. I've replaced the original Apple drive with a newer Apple CD-RW drive from a G4 Digital Audio with no change. I've also installed a fresh PRAM battery with no change. Any ideas? iBook 2001 - dead battery
Hi all and Merry Christmas! I've got an iBook 2001 dual USB with a very dead battery. The iBook says No Batteries Available in the battery status meter and no charging / status lights glow on the battery. The battery never gets warm. Using a clamshell yo-yo adapter with an iBook dual USB?
Hi all, Just bought an iBook G3 dual USB notebook less power adapter. Have one coming in a week or two, but would like to get it going a few times before it arrives. I've got a yo-yo power adapter for an iBook clamshell with the correct specs (24v @ 1.875a), but of course the connector is way too big for the iBook dual USB. Any suggestions how I might temporarily modify the yo-yo to work with the iBook dual USB? I've modified notebook power bricks before, but these Apple connectors have me a bit stumped. Problems with external firewire HD
Hi all, Bought an external drive case with firewire (Azio brand) to help transfer files between my Toshiba XP laptop and various Macs. The Maxtor 40GB HD inside it has been formatted as FAT32 via OS X 10.4's Disk Utility and has absolutely no problems working with my various G3 and G4 Macs, but the Toshiba laptop is another story. When hooked up via firewire to the laptop, the Toshiba's main hard drive can't open applications until the firewire drive is disconnected. It's almost like the main hard drive gets confused when the firewire drive is connected. I have the firewire drive set as master because that's what the enclosure instructions said to do, but I'm thinking this might be causing problems with my XP machine? Like I said, all of my Mac machines work perfectly with it. Any ideas? BW G3 - Strange display problems running 10.4
Hi all, I have a BW G3 running 10.4 fairly well... but now and then it will exhibit strange video problems such as missing icons in the Applications and Utilities folders, reloading the desktop two or three times during startup, and no response when clicking Shutdown and Restart via the menu. Usually if I use Force Quit and restart Finder, the icons will appear and things will work fine for awhile, but will eventually disappear again. I've tried all of the simple things including a new PRAM battery, reinstall the OS, rewrite the HD with zeros before reinstall, etc... but no success. I'm kind of thinking it could be the ATI Rage 128 video card or the HD, but not positive. Any ideas? Thanks. Using Radeon 7000 AGP in a G4 Digital Audio?
Hi all, Just bought an ATI Radeon 7000 AGP card for $10 NIB. It's for a PC, so I want to flash the bios and use it in my G4 Digital Audio.
