But she could be made aware that this old goat now loves his aluminum keyboard. It took a while. At first, I kind-a liked it and gave it up for an older, white keyboard that was given to me. I now use the white one on my iBook. And I put the aluminum one back on the iMac. I find that when I use the aluminum keyboard, I keep half my forearm flat on the desk. The keyboard is 8 inches/20 centimeters from the edge of the desk. That gives me the consistent positioning of the hands that I need. When I am on the white keyboard, I have to revert to the traditional floating arm approach. But I do best with the aluminum one. And I grew up with manual typewriters, and came through IBM Selectrics on the job. By the way, my sister came visiting a month ago, and she took to the aluminum keyboard like a duck to water. Re: Any replacement keyboards
G'day all Thanks for the feedback, listers. My daughter Tracey has agreed to try the Apple keyboard for a while to see if she will grow to like it, otherwise she can revert to her existing Microsoft PC keyboard (re-mapped). I know how to install the eject icon in the menu bar, so lack of an eject key won't be a problem. I checked the Mathias site, but they want US$40 just to ship overseas. If the PC keyboard proves a hassle, I'll consider it though. I can't find an Aussie shop that sells them; I think the Aluminium Apple Keyboard is proving too popular to warrant stocking alternatives. Good day Brian, There is an option in System Preferences in OSX 10.4+ to change the modifier keys. This will allow you to change your 'alt' key on a normal PC keyboard to 'cmd', therefore, the keys would be in the same place as in an Apple keyboard. Any keyboard that is USB should work on OSX. Function/media etc keys on the keyboard however may not work. I don't see why she does not like the Apple keyboard. To save money and the environment, you should not take the car out to get a new keyboard, but tell her to stay at home and get used to the Aluminum Apple keyboard which is flawless :) Thanks, Po-en Tsai -- iMac G3 Indigo 350 MHz, running OSX 10.4, 10.3 and OS 9.2.2, 80gb HDD with 768MB ram.
