I've tried to report bugs in security updates but I could never find a
PoC. How do you report a bug to Apple?

And what, you ask, was the beginning of it all?
And it is this..
Existence that multiplied itself
For sheer delight of being
And plunged with numberless trillions of forms
So that it might
find
itself
innumerably

And keep around full documentation to the bug - text files, screen
shots, etc. Be prepared to hear little to nothing from Apple for
days, weeks, or even months. Then, when you do get a reply, realize
it's a horrible automated system, where the actual developer
response is filtered thru a front-end human with an IQ of 5. It
will ask you to repeat information over and over - just to see if it
can make you go away. IMO, the worst bug reporting system I've ever
used. G'luck.

Sounds like I might have better luck just emailing Steve, so I guess I
shouldn't hold my breath. Why am I not surprised?

G'day Tina

My experience has been the opposite of Dans. I've reported 6 bugs over the
years, and been asked for further details with 3 of the reports, once on each
occasion.

The correct procedure is to be thorough in your initial preparation. I prepared
a pdf of the exact procedure required to trigger the bug (with screen shots if
required), as well as any script and procedure for using the script. One
incident was an extremely elaborate setup, and I got a reply querying a point
I had not explained fully. One was a script procedure involving Numbers that
totally wiped the Script Editor from the boot drive, which also got a response
and was fixed in the next release).

All these I wrapped in a folder and zipped, and attached to the report. In the
actual report I entered a brief resumé of the bug, and simply said 'Read the
attached pdf'.

Don't be put off by others bad experiences. Apple needs bug feedback, and if
you want bad experiences, talk to windows programmers who have tried to lodge
bug reports.

I might be a bit fortunate, I'm an ex technical instructor who's written
manuals that must be clear and concise. If you can do the same, I don't think
Apple Engineers will be a hassle.

Regards

Santa
