Front Panel? Our Xerox 7760 has one, but the printer in question here
is an Apple Laserwriter 8500.
There is no front control panel.
As I relayed just a few minutes ago, the solution was to disconnect
the printer from the wall socket.
We've had this printer since 1998 and it has been great. I've had to
replace the fuser numerous times and toner carts are getting hard to
find, but Tabloid, duplex, multi tray printing is a joy.
Not sure if we'll replace it with another B+W tabloid when the time
comes. Consumables on the 7760 are steep.

Thanks all,
Dale

Depends on the job's size and the printer's memory. Len's soln will
work if the job is still in the mac's queue. But we often find jobs
are totally held within the printer. The soln then is to remove the
paper tray, as you did (to create an error condition long enough to
get the printer's attention), then use the front panel to clear /
cancel the job.

Aside - mac vs pc issue. When my housemate prints n copies of a
small job, his pc always retains control, and sends the job to the
printer n times. So the printer sits there and waits and waits and
waits between copies. The same job sent from OS X sends the data
once and tells the printer to do it n times. That means control is
lost on the Mac almost immediately, and the job zooms along on its
own. Amazing how many envelopes you can foo before you realize
there's a problem! :\

Hi Len,

The job was no longer in the que. The entire file was sent and
received by the printer in a second or two.
I could shut down the computer or disconnect the printer from the
network and the prints would continue to be output.

However, the solution was to shut the printer down, and disconnect the
power plug.

Thanks,
Dale

It is probably in the print que on your Mac, and not in the printers
memory.

In 10.4 (and probably .3 and .5) Go into Applications->utilities and
pull up Print Center. Double click on the Apple LaserWriter then you
should see a list of pending jobs. Click Stop Jobs. You will probably
see a or some documents in the list of active jobs. Select them, then
click delete.

That should take care of it. It may print one or two more pages when
you turn the printer back on, but that should be all.

HTH,
Len

How to stop printing in progress

2009-12-28 Thread Dale Hoffman
I've just pulled the paper tray from our Apple Laserwriter because
someone inadvertently launched a print job of indeterminate length.
I'm getting continuous duplicates of a single page with over 100
printed so far.
The job is in the printer's memory, shutting down the printer does not
clear it - the job resumes when the printer is back up.
I've tried to contact Apple's support line but everyone is calling in
with Christmas gift questions, no doubt.

Thanks for any help.
