Just like any other arcade machine... that is you have a cabinet type
 thing,
and you have a joystick, and about six or so buttons. And your start
 button,
etc. On the side you have a slot for inserting coins. But that really
depends on the arcade machine. This is just a general description.

2008-05-18 Thread constantine (on laptop)
Josh, not sure about Mame, but for project 64 I can play it on a desktop
with 512 mb ram and a 1.1 ghz processor just fine. It also depends what game
it is. If Its newer, it won't play very well, but if its older, it will play
fine. An example would be cruisn' USA for the nintendo 64. It plays good on
the desktop. It was released in 1996 as one of the launch titles, so a first
generation game. Now lets fast forward to 2000 and Midways 'san fransisco
rush 2049'. Its a third or fourth generation game. It sounds staticky and
such, of course that could be the rom. Who knows. and Control are sluggish.
On this here laptop with 1 gb of ram, its a bit better- just a bit- but it
works, for the most part, and things are understandable. But playing an
accessible game on an emulator is next to impossible, such as mortal kombat,
since the c buttons are aranged so poorly in project 64, anyway, and
controls are sluggish no matter how much ram you have. It will never be the
real thing, imho.

 Hi,
How much ram do you need to run a big game in mame32? I only have 512mb
 and
last time I checked, some or most games wouldn't play and the sound kept
being really choppy. I only have 512mb on here.

Re: [Audyssey] street fighter IV was Re: final fight arcade emulation

2008-05-18 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Tyler,
Well, assuming street Fighter IV follows the general arcade machine
design it would look something like this. Generally speaking, arcade
machines are rectangular shaped wooden cases with video game characters
painted on the case and the name of the game painted on in some stylish
way to get your attention. They stand upright, and are about four or
five feet tall.
At the top of the machine there is a video game screen that is built
back into the machine case so that the light from the arcade won't
effect your view of the game screen. That is to say it is indented into
the case about a foot or so that the top, left, and right sides of the
case make it dark inside the machine. they only thing you can see is the
screen filling up your entire view. Really cool.
On the front of the machine there is usually game controllers such as
joysticks, foot peddles, racing wheels, buttons, and a coin slot where
you drop your money in to play. The controls depend on the type of game
it was made for.
Cheers.

Re: [Audyssey] street fighter IV was Re: final fight arcadeemulation

2008-05-18 Thread Thomas Ward
hi Liam,
yeah, I know. it is shocking to realize that arcade machines is almost a
thing of the past. I do see them around from time to time, but not like
they were in the 80's.
Back in the 1980's in Wooster Ohio, where I grew up, we had two video
arcades packed wall to wall with arcade machines. I played most of the
classics there first. Double Dragon, Asteroids, Zaxxon, Packman,
Megaman, you name it. If it was in those arcades I played them and
talked my parents into buying many of those games for my home consoles.
Fact was in the 80's you didn't even have to go to an arcade to find
arcade machines. You might go to Pizza Hut and find a sit down version
of Packman or go out to pick up a gallon of milk, a loaf of bread, and a
bag of dog food from the local grocery store and find Donkey Kong
awaiting you as you went in or out of the store. You might drop into
K-Mart or Hills to go Christmas shopping and find the front of the store
had a row of stand up arcade machines just waiting to take you to new
and exciting worlds. Point being, the things were everywhere. Now, they
are an endangered species.

Hi Tyler,
Yeah, the same here in the United States. Back when I was growing up
every town seamed to have an arcade. Now days only major cities seam to
have arcades. Since I am about an hour away from Cleveland and Columbus
I don't often get to the big cities to even look for any. If I am in
either it is usually around Christmas time doing shopping at the malls
and major department stores. Though, I will likely be in Columbus in
August to go to the state fair.

Hi,
There is really no reason why they are in mono.

Anyway, some updates (not uploaded yet..testing):
- Weapon Switching. You start with fists, 3 punches and then he dies.
You must find the taser (2 shots) or the rifle (1 shot). You can
switch pressing the TAB Key.
- Hopping the Fence. When you encounter a fence in the fury forest
(just fury forest) you can jump the fence. You can go north/south
(up/down). You win the same way as before, however the fence gives
some clues.. You jump again to leave.
-Bug Fixes in houses, you can actually leave and ask questions in all

 hi Liam,
yeah, I know. it is shocking to realize that arcade machines is almost a
thing of the past.
Now, they
 are an endangered species.

my understanding is that not every game is fully playable, or if they're

Just like any other arcade machine... that is you have a cabinet type
 thing,
and you have a joystick, and about six or so buttons. And your start
 button,
etc. On the side you have a slot for inserting coins. But that really
depends on the arcade machine. This is just a general description.

I know. You hear about people playing in the arcades and how much fun it

But the only place we have them is in toronto, as far as I know. Its a
gigantic arcade, filled with all sorts of games. Problem is, I don't live

[Audyssey] trupenam stats

2008-05-18 Thread nicol
A favour to all you trrupenam 2 players
Can one of you please send me, off-list, as an attachment, his stats file
for trupenam2?
I've now applied for a credit card, against my parents' will of course
because I'm 30, but they won't find out unless they apply for a loan which
will never happen.
The credit card will only be ready in 7 days' time.
Until then I want to keep the adrenelin levels low by reading other
people's stats.
Its greatly appreciated if I could have someone's entire stats file of
trupenam, someone who bought the game and has completed all levels, or at
least someone who have gone past level4.

[Audyssey] space invaders versus star trek strategy game

2008-05-18 Thread nicol
Hello thom
A suggestion from my side for your new release of stfc version 2.
Why not make a space invaders game instead of a lone wolf style of game?
The freebee community can do with another space invaders game, as dark
destroyer is next to impossible to beat
Then your mission is to move your ship through the universe and kill the
borgs, cling ons, romulons and the doomsday machine just like you would
shoot down a ship in trupenam and dark destroyer.
It would be sooo cool if I can shoot down the doomsday machine in a space in
vader style of game.]
Lets say the universe is a 100 by 100 galaxy, so you then use all 4 arrows
to move your ship.
You can then determine which ship its best to destroy first.
Lets say all ships don't have cloaking devices, then you move your ship and
you check your coordinates with a keystroke everytime you encounter a ship
and if you then see that the ship have a cloaking device, you memorize
that ship's coordinates and then you move on until you find a ship with no
cloaking device.
So in that way we still have a bit of strategy element in the game but a
space invaders style of stfc will be more understandable than a lone wolf
kind of game.

Re: [Audyssey] horcrux game

2008-05-18 Thread Dark
Hmmm, I believe the horcrux scores go harry 1 (the diary), dumbledore one
(the ring), ron one (the lockit), Hermione 1 (the cup), nevil 1 (the snake).

for the other two, we have to really give Crab the creddit for the diadem,
sinse technically it was his fire which destroyed it, and of course one also
goes to voldemort himself ffor having a crack at Harry.

In conclusion it seems to be one Horcrucx each, and I think Sarah going
after four of them is incredibly greedy, lol!

 Games we'd like to play
In sarah and the castle of witchcraft and wizardry, your task is to
 collect
 the other 4 horcruxes.
Harry only managed to destroy 2 horcruxes, the one in the diary in book2
and then his body contained the other horcrux in book7.
Since the sarah game takes place after book5, sarah decides to help harry
 find the other horcruxes.
So your task, as sarah good, is to collect the remaining 4 horcruxes
 while
 exploring floor for floor.
You'll have to unlock crates with a spell and face other challenges to
 find
 the horcruxes.
Some horcruxes will be find inside classrooms while others might be find
 in
 places such as the swamp.
Who knows? Maybe the sock dobby will give you will also contains a
 horcrux.
 Who knows?
Its for you to find out.
When you have managed to find all 4 horcruxes, there is only one
 remaining.
And that horcrux is inside your body.
So this is where the boss fight comes in. after finding the snitch on the

2008-05-18 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Nicol,
Sorry, but I really think that is a bad idea. it is so far out of the
true Harry Potter story that I'd litterally stop playing Sarah
completely if this were added to the game.Phil's idea is to make Sarah
explore the castle over summer break. She doesn't have anything to do
with the wizard war going on at that time.
As you know the only, repete, the only horcrux Sarah could possably find
is the Diadem which is the only horcrux hidden in Hogwarts. It is
doubtful she would even know what it was even if she saw it. Remember
horcruxes are such dark majic most wizards in the wizarding world don't
even know they exist.I'm fairly certain Sarah would have never been told
about them. if she had heard of them it would be as a roomer, legend, or
myth. She certainly wouldn't be able to identify one on sight.

2008-05-18 Thread Dark
I'd have to say I agree with Liam, despite my rapidly growing
attachement to Ds9.

there were lots of other great atari games, why not remake some of
them? Obviously we've got packman talks, --- but I'm sure there are others?

I know that torrent was supposed to be a bit like galaxians with the
scrolling stuff, but that never got finished and I'm not sure what happened
to it.

Berzerk would make a fantastic game along the lines of superdog's bone
hunt, in fact I had plans to do that one myself with audio game
maker, and might stil with Tom's genesis engine.

but how about audio donkey Kong (and I mean the original), or an actual game
of missile command? or (one of my personal favourites), how about joust?

though I'll admit I'm slightly less sure how you'd do joust in audio as
compared to berzerk or Donkey Kong.

anyway, I hope I've made the point.

Beware the Grue!

Hi Nicol,
Sorry, but I have to disagree with you. The blind gaming community has
way too many Space Invader type games already. There is: Judgment Day,
Troopenum, Dark Destroyer, Chopper Patrol, Enemy Attack, Aliens In the
Outback, etc. I am so sick and tired of those type of games it was one
of the main reasons I began writing my own games. It is high time we as
a blind community begin branching out and developing more roll playing
games, first person shooters, strategy games, flight simulators, etc.
We need to break out of the classic Atari games mold and design
something more current.
Anyway, in regards to STFC I'm going to probably make two different Trek
games. One is going to be more of a Lonewolf type game and the other is
going to be the big fleet turn based game. If you don't like either one
don't play them. I have absolutely no desire to make just another
run-of-the-mill Space Invader clone.
Cheers.

2008-05-18 Thread Bryan Peterson
Here here! I couldn't agree with you more Tom. If and when I start
attempting to learn a programming language you can bet that I won't be
writing many Space Invaders games if indeed any at all. We've already got
way too many of those. And Nichol, I have to disagree with you about Dark
Destroyer. I beat that on my first try. Me, I'd love to see an RPG like
Zelda or Final Fantasy or ann FPS style game like what Metroid Prime was. Of
course I'd love to see a Metroid style audio game but something like that
might be difficult to render in audio. I'm not sure how you'd represent
platforms above or below your current position although I see no reason why
it couldn't be done. I suppose you could do it with pitch bending (I think
that's what they call it), where a higher platform would have a higher sound
versus a platform below you having a lower sound. Now a Prince of Persia
style audio game might be pretty doable since all the action I.E. sword
fights, jumping, climbing and stuff is all happening pretty much in the same
position as the player. And in a game like that you have great potential for
some truly incredible sound design, especially when it comes to the traps.
Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so.

Hi Nicol,
Sorry, but I have to disagree with you.

Cheers.

nicol wrote:
 Hello thom
A suggestion from my side for your new release of stfc version 2. Why
not make a space invaders game instead of a lone wolf style of game?
The freebee community can do with another space invaders game, as dark

destroyer is next to impossible to beat Then your mission is to move
your ship through the universe and kill the borgs, cling ons, romulons

and the doomsday machine just like you would shoot down a ship in
trupenam and dark destroyer. It would be sooo cool if I can shoot down

the doomsday machine in a space in vader style of game.]
Lets say the universe is a 100 by 100 galaxy, so you then use all 4
arrows
 to move your ship.
You can then determine which ship its best to destroy first.
Lets say all ships don't have cloaking devices, then you move your
ship and
you check your coordinates with a keystroke everytime you encounter a
ship
and if you then see that the ship have a cloaking device, you
memorize
that ship's coordinates and then you move on until you find a ship
with no
 cloaking device.
So in that way we still have a bit of strategy element in the game
but a
space invaders style of stfc will be more understandable than a lone
wolf
 kind of game.

my understanding is that not every game is fully playable, or if they're
playable the sound is choppy and the graphics are fine. I don't have any
technical reasons why this is, it's just that way

Just like any other arcade machine... that is you have a cabinet type
 thing,
and you have a joystick, and about six or so buttons. And your start
 button,
etc. On the side you have a slot for inserting coins. But that really
depends on the arcade machine. This is just a general description.

mame = multiple arcade machine emulator. it esentially emulates
 the
 boards
and chips in old arcade machines.
so you're literally running a machine complete with book keeping
 and
 all.
It also emulates dip switches which let you set options like
 difficulty,
 free play, etc etc.
Of course, one thing to remember. As with all emulators, owning
 any
 rom
 is
illegal unless you own the arcade game or in this case arcade
 machine.
however, if you actually owned the board itself that might be ok.
 But
 I
think legally you'd have to own the whole machine. I'm no lawyer
 so
 I'm
 not
aware of how that works. At any rate, I'm certainly not about to
 go
 posting
links to sites or roms themselves. That would just be wrong, and
 would
 go
 against the list guidelines.

[Audyssey] SoundRTS and Aggressive Mode

Hi,
After some experimentation, I beat Chapter 3 of SoundRTS. Now I'm

it mean something?
Thanks.

Re: [Audyssey] SoundRTS and Aggressive Mode

2008-05-18 Thread Shadow Dragon
Most of the multiplayer maps are the authors initials followed by a number
for sepperation purposes. As for playing against the computer in agressive
mode, g oto single player, then start a game, not campaign. Then you start a
multiplayer map and invite as many computer opponents as you want up to the
limit the map can hold. It will say invite passive computer, or invite
agressive computer. Passive means it won't attack you directly, but it will
expand and try to get more resources, so if it finds your base while
searching for resources, it will attack you. AGressive is more like the
tutorials where the computer will send troops directly to your base.

[Audyssey] News About USA Games Side-scroller.

2008-05-18 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi everyone,
Off and on for the passed couple of months we have been avoiding some of
your questions about our side-scroller project that we are currently
creating that will be a free replacement for Montezuma's Return for
those customers currently on pre-order status. Since the games story,
characters, and game play is now pretty much fixed I feel i should
answer some of your questions. For those interested in the new
side-scroller here is a short little summary of the game which I will be
posting on the USA Games web site this week. (Note, I mean this text not
the game.)

Tomb Hunter I

the Sands of Time

Eighty-six years after Dr. Howard Carter discovered the nearly in tact
tomb of Tutankhamen daring adventurer, archaeologist, and explorer,
Angela Summers, has embarked on her most dangerous adventure to date. In
2006 ground radar showed signs of a hidden chamber or tomb in the Valley
of the Kings near Tutankhamen’s tomb. It was informally designated
KV-64. Driven by her hard-nosed determination, desire for exploration,
and mastery of archaeology Angela Summers has discovered the lost tomb,
and entered it. Now, she must use all of her skill to stay alive long
enough to tell the world of her amazing discovery.
In this highly addictive, fast action, side-scroller you must guide
Angela Summers successfully through 10 eerie underground levels of
adventure and terror. To complete Angela’s quest successfully she must
avoid or escape several deadly traps including: falling rocks, rolling
boulders, poisoned darts, spike pits, hidden trap doors, and various
other hazards. She must flight or flee several evil creatures including:
sword wielding skeleton warriors, mummies, rattle snakes, and living
statues. Along the way she will need to collect many tools and weapons
like: torches, swords, bull whips, daggers, potions, and more. Assuming
she lives long enough to collect the king’s treasure she will find such
treasures as: papyrus scrolls, rings, bracelet’s, necklaces, and the
king’s golden death mask skattered around the tomb.

Re: [Audyssey] SoundRTS and Aggressive Mode

2008-05-18 Thread Willem
Hi Kelly.
The main difference between aggressive and passive mode is in the computers
strategy. In passive mode, although the computer will attack you
eventually, its main focus is in expanding. In aggressive mode the computer
usually tries to destroy you as fast as possible.

Personally I'd like to see a modernized version of both Mario and Donkey
Kong. If noone's willing to make a zelda game, these two would be my next
choice. The original donkey kong was just dodging barrels really, not much
to it. I think we're kind of past that phase unless they're released as
 free
games. But side scrollers I like. It'd probably be tough, but it'd be cool
to see a full featured version of mario (and I don't mean the one by
dragonslayer games,) where jumping actually had height instead of just
 being
a button that played a sound, and where it wasn't all step based, like
 take
3 steps forward and jump or whatever. You'd have to lose some of the
 classic
sounds and probably put in footstep sounds and wind for pits and the like,
but I think it'd be cool. Eh *shrug* but in any case, I agree with the
general consensis here, the startrek game is fine as it is.

Re: [Audyssey] space invaders versus star trek strategy game

2008-05-18 Thread Shadow Dragon
Personally I'd like to see a modernized version of both Mario and Donkey
Kong. If noone's willing to make a zelda game, these two would be my next
choice. The original donkey kong was just dodging barrels really, not much
to it. I think we're kind of past that phase unless they're released as free
games. But side scrollers I like. It'd probably be tough, but it'd be cool
to see a full featured version of mario (and I don't mean the one by
dragonslayer games,) where jumping actually had height instead of just being
a button that played a sound, and where it wasn't all step based, like take
3 steps forward and jump or whatever. You'd have to lose some of the classic
sounds and probably put in footstep sounds and wind for pits and the like,
but I think it'd be cool. Eh *shrug* but in any case, I agree with the
general consensis here, the startrek game is fine as it is.

It would be sooo cool if I can shoot down the doomsday machine in a space
 in
 vader style of game.]
Lets say the universe is a 100 by 100 galaxy, so you then use all 4
 arrows
 to move your ship.
You can then determine which ship its best to destroy first.
Lets say all ships don't have cloaking devices, then you move your ship
 and
you check your coordinates with a keystroke everytime you encounter a
 ship
and if you then see that the ship have a cloaking device, you memorize
that ship's coordinates and then you move on until you find a ship with
 no
 cloaking device.
So in that way we still have a bit of strategy element in the game but a
space invaders style of stfc will be more understandable than a lone wolf
 kind of game.
