[Audyssey] the TBG engine suite

2009-08-21 Thread Dickson Tan
Hello

I was googling around for a free, accessible rpg text-based engine I found
the TBG engine suite. It's fairly advanced, seeing that it's freeware. It
supports the creation of rooms, weapons, spells, skills, status conditions,
items, npcs etc. I've not varified it's full capabilities seeing that I've only
spent an hour with it. One bad thing about it though is that it is very poorly
documented. Choosing the help documentation does nothing!

Anyway, the url is http://www.airheadgaming.com/

I also found the dead shoals mud library, but it's too advanced for my taste.
Does anyone know of other rpg game engines? I tried my luck on the last crusade
rpg game maker but it didn't turn out very well.

Cheers
Dickson

The Braillesoft games I've seen use edit boxes, so other devices should
actually work too.

well, there are a few differences. usually a pacmate games dev gets into
the fs keyboard driver to tell it to watch for when you press different
keys and I have douts if it'll work with a pocket pc, but braille soft
provides most of their games as ppc versions.

Hi all,

I'm thinking of picking up a Weei tomorrow, and I was wondering if some
people would help me on what games to get.
I know there's some sports games that come with the system, and I've
played those before. I'm also going to pick up Punchout, and Super Smash
Bros Brawl. Other then this, are there any games others have that I should
know about?

Thanks,

 Hi Ryan,
I really like Tiger Woods Golf 2010, with the new motion plus controllers
which are freaking amazing.
I'm only able to play it with sighted friends though, as it doesn't read
out any of the shot or club info to you.
I haven't picked up sports resort yet, but you get an additional motion
plus with that as well, and it includes sword fighting, disk golf, tons of
stuff, kind of a sequel to Wii sports.

 Happy weing,

I modified the subject slightly. Just so you know, there are hundreds, if
not thousands of games you can play. For the most part, the games will be
Adrift, TADS, Inform, or AGT games. There are a few other types, but these
are the more popular with AGT now-a-days being the least. I think that
Inform and TADS offer the games with the most flexibility, but writing them
has the steepest learning curve. Adrift on the other hand is an engine
which allows you to use a gui to choose with buttons and drag and drop,
things you want to do, creating rooms, conditions, characters, etc. It
might be one of the easier ones to work with, but you have to somethings
get pretty creative to make it do what you want due to it already having
built-in parameters. You can go to the general if sites and download many
adventures, there are regular if, interactive fiction, and then there are
those adventures with an adult-oriented theme. These are called aif, adult
interactive fiction. You will often hear if games as text adventures which
is also an applicable name.

Hope this helps.

Hi, the game runner Adrift is simply the program which allows you to
play any taf files. This is like having Microsoft Word installed. Now
that you have it installed, you need to obtain taf game files, much in
the same way that you would need to have doc documents to open in
Word. So if you want to play the adult-oriented text adventure Last
Week, you will have to get it from the Adrift section of
www.aifcommunity.org.

Many thanks.

the runner a edit box comes up; then I attempt to load last week and I
guess I don't have that file, I thought it was loaded with the program

Hi,
You can either browse for the file, or if you have *.taf files
associated with Adrift you can just press enter on LastWeek.taf and it
will automatically open in Adrift.
As far as finding the adventures to load it all depends on where you
unzip the *.taf files to. What I tend to do is put all of my taf files
in a directory like
c:\Adrift
and then set that as the default directory for Adrift. That way I can
easily find all of the adventure games I have on my system.

[Audyssey] moo

2009-08-21 Thread Nick Helms
Hello all,
I just had an idea, and decided to put it out on the list.
I, for one, am very interested in learning the moo programming
language. Unfortunately, this language is very old, and out of date.
But there are still quite a few people who continue to use it in games
(EG: Miriani, etc).
I understand that most of these people were adults who were around
when moo was developed. Therefore, there was much support for it and
those who were interested could learn it.
However, those of us who are interested but were not around for moo’s
development do not have the option of learning it from others.
Unfortunately, there are very few tutorials that I find very easy to
understand, and those who know moo do not want to teach it, except for
the few that ran “Learn moo”
I am sorry to learn that the classes they kindly offered did not do
well at all. I for one would have come, all though I had college.
Anyway, it would be great if, in stead of hosting live lessons,
someone could write a series of lessons for those who were interested
to download at their convenience.
I for one would be perfectly happy to host the files and write an intro.
Although I am not ashamed to admit I only know the basics of building and verbs.
Would it be possible for someone who knows moo, or even a group of
people, to write lessons for those interested to take and use?
I just don’t think it’s very fair for us to have to scrounge around
the web for tutorials made in 2000 and earlier.
Just an idea and one I hope someone will give some attention to.
Thanks much,
Nick

Re: [Audyssey] moo

2009-08-21 Thread Tristan B
I am writing a tutorial, that will be easier. I realise that alot of the
tutorials are very hard to understand. I may put up a learning MOO, made for
learning and experimenting. Probably more building/experimenting by new
MOOers will happen there then anything..

Try these two sites.

My MOO archive that I've set up has alot of useful tutorials under the docs
folder, just look around there.

http://TrekGames.net/MOO

And also Lisdude's website has alot of great docs and tutorials for MOO,
that I found easier than most.

Also, CosmosCore will have its own MOO devoted to expanding and new
programmers. Look out for that on the horizon.

Hope this helps.

2009-08-21 Thread Ryan Smith
Hi,
One of the administrators of LearnMOO wrote something called Cameras.
They work like real-life video cameras, they capture everything that
goes on, and allows you to play it back. We are going to start
recording our classes so users who cannot make it can review what they
missed.

We haven't had any classes lately due to server problems, and various
other issues. We have a new host, and will be begining classes
shortly. All are welcome to come.
Thanks,
-Ryan

Re: [Audyssey] GMA game engine

Hi,

19.08.2009 8:18, Thomas Ward пишет:
like technical support, manuals, accept donations, etc. All of which
goes into paying developers to maintain the operating system and
programs as well as handle basic operating expenses. In other words
even though the software is given away for free they have other ways
of getting money to maintain the software. A company has to do it, or
they can't operate.

Did you consider making engine open source and selling technical support
for it? Advanced developers usually don't need support, but they will be
required to put back the code they developed using your engine, so there
is a benefit. You can also sell a comercial license for those who want
make comercial games. I myself started work on such engine and have done
a lot of it. Engine was written in delphi. You can find topic about it
on audiogames.net forum, there is list of implemented features and even
working demo. However, currently project is frozen because i switched to
c++ :-)
