Hello. Even after the update I still can't find choppers. I've even
returned to the place where the power plant was. Any ideas?

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Rock Remix

2010-11-22 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Lori,

Yeah. Well, that is the difference between a 2d environment like
Shades of Doom and a 3d environment like MOTA 3D. Besides the ability
to go north, south, east, and west there is a specific element to move
up and down through the game world too. Either by climbing up or down
on something like a rope or ladder, or to be able to jump up onto
something, or jump down from something. It is a totally different
concept from that used in any accessible game to date, but is quite
common in mainstream games. That's one reason why I felt a bit put out
to actually create a side-scroller as that style of game is pretty
much ancient history as far as the general mainstream boys are
concerned.

Clear back as early as the mid 1990's we saw the first-person and
third-person style game play take over the way people played video
games. Quake, Jedi Knight, Tomb Raider, etc were very revolutionary
for their time. The mainstream game industry pretty much just
continued from their, and we are technologically falling behind by
clinging to arcade games and side-scrollers in my opinion.

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Rock Remix

2010-11-22 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Lori,

That's alright. A lot of VI gamers don't know the difference in game
types, styles, etc do to their total lack of experience with
mainstream games. Lots of people think Shades of Doom is 3d when in
fact it isn't. It has 3d audio, but it technically would be classified
as a 2d FPS because you are still limited to a 2d plain with only
north, south, east, west movement with no ability to travel along a
third axis up/down. That third axis of movement makes all the
difference in the world as it adds, well, another dimmention to the
game play.

For example, in MOTA 3D harpies actually hover around in the air above
you, and you have to aim your gun up as well as turn left/right to
shoot them. They aren't just straight ahead of you like a centaur or
skeleton might be. That, of course, is completely different from the
side-scroller game most people know now, because you really have to
aim your gun fairly precisely to hit anything. Not only that but the
traps are different two. Some traps you might be able to skirt by
walking around the edges, while others, you will have to jump over to
get passed them. It is a totally different experience altogether.

Cheers!

[Audyssey] Free Python Sample Games

2010-11-22 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi all,

Over the passed few months I have been working on a free book on
Python programming for beginners with a bent towards game programming
in Python. Unfortunately, the documentation isn't ready, but I have
written a few sample games to go along with the book. Since Lisa asked
the question about programming games I was wondering how many others
share her interest in perhaps writing games in Python. If so I happen
to have a few very simple sample games written in Python aimed at a
very beginner level. These definitely are not very complex affares.
Mostly they are simple text based games like Guess the Number, Paper
Scissors Rock, Blackjack, Number Stumper, and things like that.
Entertaining as a first project, but not much else. Any interest in
these sample games?

Cheers!

Subject: [Audyssey] Free Python Sample Games

 Cheers!
