I was able to purchase Future Boy a couple years ago. Even though the site 
says it's no longer available to purchase online, I was told by a customer 
service rep that I could send my payment via PayPal. I did, and got the 
game a day or so later. There is a walkthrough available, but I can't 
remember where you can get it. It was good, but there was an error 
somewhere, and it took me awhile to get past it. Regardless, I agree that 
this was a great game.

[Audyssey] Alter Aeon 18th Anniversary Event

The 18th anniversary events are finally all completed, and I'd like to
thank everyone for participating as well as give a rundown of all six
days of events:

- The Tuesday area marches went really well, and I got to play tour
guide for several areas nearly two decades old.

- The contests on the 1995 server port were a real hit, with a lot  of
people trying it out (and a lot of people giving up.)  As old and
crusty as the original version of AA was, it really was a great game
to start from and build on.

- Scribe and Grolantor's expansion to their woodland retreat has been
very popular, with people still trying to work their way through all
the details and deeds.

The main event ran across all three days from Friday to Sunday, ending
with a massive assault upon the ice fortress to banish the invading
frost demon.  In the course of their victory, the players had to
regain knowledge of an ancient, lost wardbreaking spell, which is now
a permanent addition to the game.

Here's to another year of Alter Aeon!

While we are talking technology here, I'd like to ask something.
.net 4.0 can be run on XP and is not shipped with Windows 7 directly, what 
exactly does Windows 8 have?

I heard of a .net 4.5 package which can be installed on Windows 7.
While XP might be outdated, Windows 7 seems to be closer to Windows 8.
This however brings the question of compatibility for Windows 7 when it 
comes to Windows 8 based programs (and I do not mean Modern Apps).

Hi Eric and welcome.

There are lots of other games out there besides muds, good though some muds 
are. Auio games in all sorts of genres from real time action to racing and 
adventure, brouser based rpgs, gamebooks etc.


I'd recommend having a look at the database over at www.audiogames.net where 
you can use the "search archive" function to sort the games by catagory, and 
the pcs games fantastic games list over at www.pcsgames.net, which can 
provide a really great overview of available stuff.

clocked in is tough but the main thing is, concentrate on picking up the 
eggs, try to slide around the clocks.
I found if I had to get pecked by a chicken, it was still better than 
picking up a clock in that mode.

Two other things to consider…

You said this was a fresh install of OS X 10.7. Have you applied all system 
updates to Lion? Perhaps this was a TTS bug that has been fixed since Lion's 
initial release. There were a number of quirks early on, since Apple made a 
lot of under the hood changes to the TTS service in OS X Lion.


Also, you might want to consider just upgrading to Mountain Lion, as it is 
well worth the $20. :) I'll continue to do some poking around.

As far as we've been able to determine, the vast majority of our customers 
are on Mountain Lion or Snow Leopard, so I supposed there could be some

The message about how it is recommended that VoiceOver be disabled while 
the game is running only appears the first time the game runs. We felt it 
was more important to limit the chance of it being accidentally 
interrupted by the user, than to make it interruptible, since it isn't 
something you click through every time.


The music, or other background audio, should not be interrupted at all by 
other sounds. In fact, this is the first we've heard of this…What are the 
specs of your Mac? Which version of the OS are you running? I suspect 
this may be a problem unique to your configuration, or there's a conflict 
with something else on your machine.

still not sure.
I have always had a symbian phone with a t9 pad.
The reason I want to replace it in the next   year or so is its age.
bits are falling off and I am running an imported battery.
However I don't know about replacing it with anything or what to 
replace it with.
Another symbian phone that runs talks would probably be my first 
choice as I have never used the unit much for anything bar sms and phones.
There are several reasons to replace the unit with something like the 
ios devices though.

1.  games.
2.  the tech in ios for games like dimentions is impressive.
3.  skype, yeah I know the speakers are crap but to have skype on the 
go would rock.
4.  airports, transfering laptops within airports is not fun security 
wise there is at least a 5 minute wait to get it scanned. and the 
weight of carrying one besides.
5.  wireless access, one of the gings I have itched to do is do the 
free wifi thing.
Then again if I find another older simbian 3 phone using the old 
symbian 2 os I may just upgrade talks for the extra hundred.
I must say the iphone has a big pull with me especially where 
podcasts and games are concerned.

if it isn't, it will be easy to grab a mod and install it on this 
phone as Google most likely doesn't lock it down. Although, buy it 
unlocked, don't let AT&T sell you anything like I did, they'll do 
all sorts of stupid things to try and control you just like iOS  but 
worse. For instance I'm pretty sure my Android phone has the gps 
chip disabled for 3rd party apps, only works for the AT&T navigator 
program that came with it. Ask me if that makes me want to slap some 
buttheads around.


7. If you don't like it you can tweak it. I've been through probably 
10 home screens and am currently using one that does seem to work 
reasonably well. Not to mention you could write a better one than 
everyone else's, in your opinion, and sell it for me to get on mine.


8. Truth be told, if I could have switched to  ESpeak or just the 
right alternative synthesizer on iOS, I probably would have not 
tried Android. I would have gotten a keyboard case for the phone, so 
the iOS devices not having a keyboard isn't much of a show stopper 
for me, it's those voices. Aaarrrggg!!!


9. My phone seems to be a lot faster than even my iPod touch 5g, 
which is lesser a cpu than that on the iPhone 5, but not by too awful much


10. You can swipe on android 4.2, though people seem too willing to 
just do that and not use explore by touch. on iOS I get used to the 
app's layout and don't need to flick on screens that I'm used to 
very often. On my Android phone I have to explore by touch though, 
because 4.0.4 doesn't have the gestures.


11. You can enable accessibility on android in the setup screen by 
pressing the screen with two fingers a suitable distance apart and 
holding for a few seconds until it responds with prmpts. May need to 
press the power button first. This is also available while on the 
menu that's pulled up by the power button when the phone is running. 
On some devices you can draw a square on the screen with a finger to 
enable it. Not as 1 2 3-ish as tripple click home, which does work 
out of the box now unlike what someone said earlier on, but it's getting there.

Hi.

Well I paid for the weapons upgrade because I wanted to support the
developer and that seemed the best way but I am hoping more weapons and
indeed game center compatibility come soon.

I've not tried zombies run yet, since from the writeup on phil's site and
some comments I've heard I'm not that sure about how a couple of things
work, like the stratogy elements of the game, and also whether you can
access the hole game by just running on a treadmill as I do myself, since
obviously trying to run around the streets would be a little dangerous, as
would trying to listen while walking anywhere outside though I do do some
running each day on a small trampoline in my flat which should be okay.

Beware the grue!

Hi Ron,

Yes, most of your old games will run on Windows 8. As with Windows 7
as long as you install VB 6 etc most of your older games can be made
to work with Win 8. The only games I can't get to run on Windows 8 are
old 16-bit Dos games which makes sense given that 16-bit compatibility
was dropped.

It may be that Google catches up with apple in terms of accessibility
for their mainline apps, and I'm glad that you are having good luck
with apps you've installed from the Goog Store, but the sad and simple
fact is that there are lots of accessibility holes in the basic
architecture of the Android framework that will need to be fixed
before it is accessible in the same way that the IOS framework is
accessible.

Let me put it to you this way. There are a lot of apps, both on
Android OS and IOS that are inaccessible, but there are more apps on
IOS that are accessible just because the Apple framework is
accessible. What I mean is that the app maker didn't have to sit there
and try to make their product Voiceover compliant. That's why, if you
go on AppleVis, you'll find a lot of apps that are labeled as workable
if you can tolerate a bit of confusion or put in a bit of work.

In the Android framework, as I understand it, accessible is something
which must be created in the apps. The apps aren't, by nature,
accessible until someone does something to make them less so. True, in
both systems, a developer can very easily cut corners which make apps
inaccessible, but the Apple framework tends toward making apps at
least partially accessible, just because of its nature and setup.

I want to put this forward as a thought about Google. The Apple maps
app is more than accessible, even if it's a bit confusing from time to
time, but it works. I can read maps on my phone, which, let me tell
you, is a huge deal for me. The google maps app, basically it isn't
worth putting on, because it sucks in terms of accessibility. The
Dropbox app is accessible. Google drive isn't. Safari is accessible,
and though I haven't tried Google Chrome because I'm more than pleased
with Safari, I've heard that it doesn't do as good a job in terms of
accessibility. The GMail app is reasonable, but it's a bit confusing
from time to time, whereas the built-in mail app does the same job and
is much more manageable.

Basically, if Google doesn't take the time and put in the effort to
make apps accessible on devices which actively promote good
accessibility, I don't have a great deal of faith that they're going
to clean up the mess they've made of the accessibility in their own
devices. Google just doesn't place accessibility at as high of a
priority as does Apple, so even if the phone is eventually accessible,
even if the Nexus does gain accessibility features after a couple of
years, by that point, you're probably already going to at least be
considering whether or not you want a new phone, while those who
bought an IOS device are seeing new and improved accessibility
features with each major update.

Frankly, I make myself wonder from time to time. I used to highly
dislike Apple, and there are still plenty of things about their
strategies that I am less fond of. I think that their marketing plan
is based on hyping little details and concealing larger ones to wow
the launch crowd, which I dislike. I think that they charge too much
for device repairs and warranties. I think that they might,
eventually, get snowed under by the simply massive amount of Android
devices. But I love, and I'll say it again, love the fact that having
an iPhone has given me independence. I can buy a GPS app that does me
a little better in terms of accessibility and features that are
specific to the needs of a visually impaired person, but frankly I
don't see much of a need, because what's already there is pretty darn
good. Android is a risk that might pay off really nicely, but IOS is
an investment in a steady product that is going to appreciate over
time with that self same steadiness.

I know this message has been long, and I also know that I'm nothing in
terms of knowledge on physical Android products, but I hope that it is
helpful and concise.

I agree. This is why I've decided to go the Apple rout, because at least they 
care enough to give us a full-featured screen reader, very good TTS, and more 
stability than Windows ever had. I also love their email service, and 
everything else they provide. The only thing I miss from windows is MushZ, but 
gosh maybe Draconis can make an accessible MUD client.

Adding to what Tom says here,

Apple's business model is much different from Microsoft's. While you are 
restricted to running OS X on Mac hardware, one of the reasons is because Apple 
virtually gives away its OS. In a way, it is their own form of registration. If 
you have Apple hardware, that gives you the license to run the OS. OS X usually 
costs about $20, making it far more affordable than something like Windows, and 
the vast majority of users will stay current.

There is, of course, the added benefit that, like game consoles, many mobile 
devices, etc, by limiting the variations of hardware that the software may be 
run on to a finite number, you can greatly improve stability. This is why Mac 
OS X is so much more stable than just about anything else comparable out there. 
(Microsoft is starting to take this approach with Windows Phone. It limits the 
variations of hardware permitted by companies licensing the OS in an attempt to 
improve consistency and stability.)

LIke most things in life, there are trade offs. I happen to prefer the trade 
offs Apple has chosen to make over those of other platforms. And while OS X 
itself is restricted in its use, the Darwin base upon which it is built is open 
sourced. Apple has done an exemplary job of finding a balance between 
commercial and open source.

if your gonna play alter I would definitely recommend using mush Z over

I just started playing alter aeon. My character's name is Caspero. I love 
it so much I'll need a 12 step program just to stop. I just have one 
problem I get so lost easaly. I tried to look for maps for the blind and 
can't find any. If any one has any tips that can point me in the right 
direction it would be greatly appreciated. Oh I also need help with my 
vipmud sound pack. when I play the only sound I get is ouch when I'm

Well on that reguard I was mucking  round and came accross a site 
calle osxx86project.org
aparently you need a legal macos and then need to image then patch it 
but you can run macos on a pc.

not sure how legal it is but the site does state you need your own version.

already has it installed and ready to go. Point being the end users
reluctance to upgrade eventually is going to result in either
developers refusing to support the older OS, or have to forsake
features found on newer Windows versions. Clearly its a case were a
person can't have their cake and eat it too. :D
