Re: [Audyssey] Best controller for fighting games on Xbox

Sorry if I sound ignorant here but do you guys play games on the Xbox
like you did way back when the Megadrive and all that were all the rage?
In other words, you either played with sighted family or friends or
relied on sound cues? Just curious! Cheers!

Hi all,
For those of you who play fighting games, what controller do you use? I've been
using the stock Xbox 360 controller for a few days, and am rather unimpressed.
I'm currently leaning toward the Versus pad from PDP, because it has great
reviews, and is on clearance for cheap. I've also been looking at the Microsoft
controller with transforming D-pad, but that one's a bit on the pricey side
right now, plus I don't really need the charge and play kit it comes with.
I'm at a bit of a double disadvantage because I'm used to playing street
fighter with a keyboard, so any controller feels clunky to a degree.
Any controller recommendations or other tips in this area would be greatly
appreciated.

Oh that is a shame and now I can see why people are finding ways to play
their old favourite games under Windows 8, even if it involves
virtualization. If you can though I would stick with Windows 7 at the
latest as I can confirm all games work there.

Hi Chris,

This is not presumption. I have read on the Audiogames.net forum that

necessarily follow that the BSC games should as well. Yes, both were

that. Anyway, all we know at this point is some people are having
problems.

apply to Bsc Games.

Good morning all.
I think I joined before, but it was a while ago. So for any new members, my
name is Chris (Christopher( Hallsworth and I am 29 years old.
I am an on off gamer, and have recently got on to gaming thanks to the
closing down sale at www.blindsoftware.com I have all the games and
software, both free and paid, that he has ever done, as well as the free
games from Dan Z Games, because I just like them, especially Super Deekout
which I absolutely love because of its randomness and the arcade style which
I like in general. This is why I also love Pipe 2 Blast Chamber.
I also have a few games on my iPhone 4, but not sure whether this is
discussed here, so, as one of the thugs would say, stop right there!
Anyway I thought I would re-join to see what's going on in the gaming
community.
Chris.

Hello Angela,

Are you getting any sort of errors or indications why it isn'tt working? The
reason I am asking is there should be some sort of indication as to why it
isn't running. Although, I am pretty certain the reason it isn't running has
to do with the new security in Internet Explorer. What version of Internet

Re: [Audyssey] winkit.zip not a valid file?

2013-04-28 Thread Dallas O'Brien
Hi, yes, Ever since windows XP, there has been a zip utility built into the
file Explorer. As Tom said, it's not fancy, but it does do the job. However,
one note to keep in mind, is that although it can unzip basic zip files, it
cannot unzip the more complex and higher compression zip files done by zip
utilities. Such as WinZip's newer zip files, it can't handle those. You have to
use the actual program to deal with those. Personally, I prefer using 7zip.
It's compression is better than WinZip or WinRAR, and can handle pretty much
everything.
Best regards:
Dallas

 Hi Jim,

Well, newer versions of Windows Explorer, also known as the File
Explorer in Windows8, have the ability to extract common archive
formats like zip by right clicking on the file and telling it to
extract. Its nothing as fancy as Winzip orWinrar but it is a quick and
easy way to extract zip files if you don't have another zip program
 installed.

i wish that i could get them, however, I don't have the cash to pay for
them with.

Good morning all.
I think I joined before, but it was a while ago. So for any new members,
my name is Chris (Christopher( Hallsworth and I am 29 years old.
I am an on off gamer, and have recently got on to gaming thanks to the
closing down sale at

www.blindsoftware.com
I have all the games and software, both free and paid, that he has ever
done, as well as the free games from Dan Z Games, because I just like
them, especially Super Deekout which I absolutely love because of its
randomness and the arcade style which I like in general. This is why I
also love Pipe 2 Blast Chamber.
I also have a few games on my iPhone 4, but not sure whether this is
discussed here, so, as one of the thugs would say, stop right there!
Anyway I thought I would re-join to see what's going on in the gaming
community.

[Audyssey] Panning stereo sounds, was New Version of Soundscape Explorer

2013-04-28 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Thomas,
Back in the good old days of DirectX 6 or 7 you could pan a stereo sound.
That is how the GMA engine played sounds.
David had all the sounds of Shades of Doom and Loan Wolf in mono but for
Pacman I had them all stereo.
True when you panned the sound too much you lost the stereo effect, but when
the thing got closer you could here the stereo effect so creatures close to
you sounded more realistic.
In Pacman and Sarah I had to switch from panning mono files to static stereo
files when a creature or ghost touched you.
Now the stereo file can have the creature zoom around you but it is an
effect of the file and not the creature's placement in the map.

Hi Ken,

Actually, this has nothing to do with Microsoft specifically. All the
3d libraries out there be it OpenAL, FMOD Ex, Bass, etc use mono
sound samples for virtual 3d audio. There are technical reasons why
they use mono instead of stereo for virtual 3d audio, but I don't
recall off hand what they were specifically. However, what it comes
down to is it takes up less memory and CPU power to position mono
sounds than stereo sounds, and you don't need a stereo sound if you
are not going to play it back in stereo anyway.

For instance, when you play a stereo sound you have two channels left
and right. This is fine if you intend to play both channels at the
same time. However, if you are positioning a sound in 3d only the left
or right channel can be heard at a time negating the need for both
channels. You are just wasting CPU power and ram on an extra channel
and a much larger file that isn't being used to begin with. Make
sense?

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] Panning stereo sounds, was New Version of Soundscape Explorer

2013-04-28 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Phil,

You can still pan stereo sounds in DirectX 8 as well. However, the
issue isn't stereo panning but using virtual 3d buffers which is a
totally different thing altogether.

If you want to pan a sound left or right it doesn't really matter if
the sound is stereo or mono because all it does is adjust the balance
between the left and right channels .IE. simple stereo panning.

However, with virtual 3d buffers it does far more than adjust the
balance between the left and right speakers. With a very basic
surround sound setup you have at a minimum front left, rear left,
front right, rear right, and a center speaker. I.E. a total of five
channels. Possibly more if you are using 7.1 surround sound systems.
Its much easier to move a mono sound around using five or more
channels than it is to do it with a stereo sound. That is why APIs
like XAudio2 really use mono sounds for virtual 3d instead of stereo.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] Duckblaster, it doesn't work on Windows 7 32 bits

2013-04-28 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Angela,

HmmmI'm seeing the problem. I tried running Duckblaster here on a
Compaq running Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 10 and and none of the
PB Games will run. I think it has to do with changes in the security
for Internet Explorer, but I think if we really want these games to
work under Windows 7 and above what we need to do is rewrite and
update them.

Cheers!
