 Hi Thomas,

One idea is to have Audyssey articles be blog
postings and have the magazine

in its entirety either be links to those articles or have those articles be
arranged on a single web page.

This would be good on many levels, as not only would the entire issue be
available for those who may want to read it all at once, and also each
individual article could be an individual blog post every few days. So The
magazine could be posted, and following that, each individual article could
be posted to the blog for those who might like to have small doses filling
 the time between issues.

Also, with this model, links could be posted easily to Twitter / FaceBook
etc. One link for the entire mag, and a link
to each blog post when it comes

 out.

this would make for a great experience to satisfy many types of readers.
Those who didn't have time or the desire to read the entire magazine, could
 have many articles more often.

Additionally, as has been mentioned here, any audio addenda to the mag,
could also be posted with the magazine as well as sent out along with each
 blog posting.

 Does this make sense?

This way, each issue would come out, and then
there would be a steady stream
of material which could be automated to be
posted every so often to keep the

activity going until the next issue of the magazine comes out. Who ever
assembles the magazine could simply queue up the articles and the blog
client could be set to post different articles on different dates.

 What are people's thoughts?…

 Have a great night,

 cara :)

Well editors should correct mistakes though those that do post should
indevour to fix as much as they can.
Editors in some cases do put the magazine or whatever together unless
its handled by someone that puts things ttogether before distribution

at least that is what I understand of the deal.

know for instance in reading the mails from this list on a daily basis
that some people often use me when they should use I or they use a
double negative in a sentence etc. Those kinds of mistakes should be
corrected before publication, and any editor worth his/her salt will
find and correct such mistakes in any article, review, or news

Definitely true. No game in the universe is 100% accessible to
everyone else in the world. It can be something as simple as the menus

complex like an audio game being accessible to a blind player but not
a deaf one. There is no way humanly possible to write something that
is 100% accessible to everyone at the same time. Therefore
accessibility needs to be discussed in terms of the group or groups

I'd myself simply talk about games being accessible to different
disabilities. gma tank commander is an audio game so it is accessible to
blind and vi gamers. The close captioned version of Doom 3 has full text
output so is accessible to deaf gamers etc.

Hi Dark,

Woe, let's slow down a bit here. I don't think I was actually
suggesting creating sections for one switch games, closed captioning,
and so on. Those are important, but as you said they are discussed
elsewhere. I was thinking more in terms of having sections of games
that are more universal in terms of accessibility such as gamebooks
that are accessible to blind, deaf, and sighted user's alike without
necessarily creating specific sections for one switch, motion
impaired, closed captioning, etc as all of those categories would more
or less be covered by that one genre of game. Something like Sryth by
its very nature would be accessible to multiple disabilities than
would be Shades of Doom or Tank Commander which target blind users
with reasonably good hearing. Sryth is not 100% accessible to
everyone, but because the medium is mostly text based it is reasonably
accessible to blind, deaf, motion impaired, and sighted alike without
having to do anything to specialize it for people with special needs.
Therefore I would put it in a section of games with almost universal
accessibility.

Cheers!

 Hi Tom.

While I do see your point about access for people with other disabilities,
with respect I don't entirely agree that this is something we particularly
need to do simply because there are many places it's done already.

go to a site like able games, penny arcade or even retroremakes, and there
is plenty of information for gamers with motion imparements. Lots of games
have one switch or mouse control, or close captioning or similar none sound

options for deaf gamers, (as indeed there should be), yet there is nothing

at all about access for vi or blind gamers, indeed colourblindness is
about as far as such adaptations go.

To show a great example of this, the game that won the 2008 retroremakes
accessibility competition was a game called pyramid that was entirely
graphical! it had innumerable customizations, control configurations,
options to play without sound, but was utterly and completely inaccessible
if you couldn't see the graphics, indeed even for me with my level of
sight I had to specifically write to the developers to request a menue
description of the huge huge huge! textual menue in the game
in order to

 try it.

Of course not every game can be accessible to everyone, but it does seem
some sorts of accessibility get far more publicity than others.

Of course there are likely social reasons for this, the distinctly
misleading term video games which makes games sound implicitely!
inaccessible to visually impared people the way the visual arts are, the
higher proportion of younger people with motion or hearing
imparements, the

fact that disability in general social consciousness is always associated

with a wheel chair etc, however for this reason I don't
necessarily feel we,

say need to start writing specificc sections of the audeasy site about
motion imparement access, alternative control schemes, text alternatives
 tosound etc.

Of course we certainly could! note in individual game reviews how different

games might have access features that appeal to other groups of disabled
gamers, eg, text games for people who are deaf and blind, orcodename signus

use of voice control, but I wouldn't suggest say making a major section on
close captioning for audeasy, since that sort of thing is coered
extensively

elsewhere, and after all sites like oneswitch.co.uk have far more expertees

and do a much better job than we could on such matters anyway.

 Beware the Grue!

2013-11-06 Thread shaun everiss

Hi scot and all.
Firstly a clarification on my message.
1. I was refering to how some sighted unfortunately may treat us,
yes I know its a stereotype that because some believe sighted people
that is that we are helpless even when it may not be the case I may
maybe others may think the same stereotype about the sighted though
that is getting less and less the case.
My third statement was more if we got sued for copywrite over using
copywrited materials, and an inability to probably fund any suits
should we loose never mind other things related, since we are
disabled we have harder time getting jobs generally though this is
not always the case, it is if you like a pet fear of being stuck in a corner.
If we ever got into legal trouble, I do wander with the little we may
have, cash wise what could we do if others decided to walk over us,
yes I know the same applies to everyone which is not a big giant
company that can happily sue other companies, but if you are a normal
user in the middle, being disabled just brings it closer to home
since I have no idea what I would do in this situation and I would
feel poor and helpless at that point.

So yeah its my problem and not yours.
I did not mean to offend anyone as such.
I should have rephrased these better.
I didn't mean what I write at least not those in the way I was
thinking, in truth I never thought about it as such, thinking others
would see through my meanings, though the same happens offline, I may
mean something different but say a completely different thing, one
thing I need to watch since it does slip itself out.

Re: [Audyssey] Papa Sangre II Controls Hanging

2013-11-06 Thread shaun everiss
Well I was listening to the coolblindtech cast
and the podcaster was having the same issues
where the game seemed to slow down and or seemed
to stop for a few seconds during gameplay.

At 03:52 AM 11/6/2013, you wrote:

Hi All,

To those playing Papa Sangre II, as mentioned
before, in addition to the difficulty walking in
the game, I also seem to be finding pretty
serious issues with the controls locking / hanging in general.

I'm wondering, is anyone else seeing this?
People had mentioned others are having some
issues walking but do you find you're also
having issues occasionally with just general use of the controls as well?

As I've said, I've had a super easy time using
the Papa and NightJar controls before, and my
touches are really pretty precise as I've used
the iPhone for quite some time, but it just
seems that the simplest actions with a single
touch are just not registering when I need them
to. It's like something in the game is hanging
but I cannot work out a pattern yet at this
point. I'll be walking along just fine, and then
suddenly for no reason that I can discern, the
controls will lock, and the game will not allow
me to move anymore for a few seconds. The
closest I can come to a profile for this
behavior would be that it seems to happen while
using Gyro mode when several sounds are playing
or when speech is happening during active play.
I.E. not during instruction or cut scenes where
the controls are obviously meant to be locked.

I was thinking this was just my own adrenaline
perhaps causing me to get a bit sloppy with my
control of the game but after having this happen
on some very simple actions, such as doing a
single tap to work with one's hand in the game,
and having it just not respond for several
single discreet taps, (even done slowly / extra
carefully) this really does seem to be a game issue.

Also, in my own development experience, I know
it is possible to get single taps to respond
extremely quickly (much much faster than in this
game) I've done it. :) (Adventure game in LookTel VoiceOver Tutorial)

So the Papa II controls seem to be really
annoyingly hanging at some points which is
causing me to not be able to complete some
levels due to running out of time at crucial
sections of the game. This is just obnoxious and
makes the game more frustrating than fun, unfortunately! lol! :)

This is a great game and I'd really like to finish it. :)

Anyway, if anyone knows of a way to offer
feedback or possible suggestions, I'd love to.
This is definitely the best game from Somethin'
Else at this point, in my opinion. So I'd really
like to see this working well. So anything I can do, I'd be happy to.

Just for info, I'm running this on an iPHone 5.

Thanks All, and have a great day!…

Smiles,

Cara :)

Shaun,

This was more clear to me and others as to your original intent, but
you need to understand the way you write often times tends to ramble
on and on with no point in sight, is confusing to read, and getting
any kind of intelligible meaning from your posts is often times
difficult. Between the ramble, grammatical errors, misspelled words,
and general extraneous content no one wants to read your posts any
more. On the occasion someone does read one of your posts it is
usually filled with negative or pessimistic comments that do not
constructively add to the conversation. It is for these and other
reasons I felt it was in our best interests to moderate you so that
only messages with a clear point, a more positive outlook, and does
not flame or attack someone get through while filtering out all the
other less desirable messages.

Cheers!

Firstly a clarification on my message.
 1. I was refering to how some sighted unfortunately may treat us,
yes I know its a stereotype that because some believe sighted people

maybe others may think the same stereotype about the sighted though
that is getting less and less the case.
My third statement was more if we got sued for copywrite over using
copywrited materials, and an inability to probably fund any suits
should we loose never mind other things related, since we are
disabled we have harder time getting jobs generally though this is
not always the case, it is if you like a pet fear of being stuck in a
 corner.

Re: [Audyssey] Audyssey

2013-11-06 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Shaun,

Well, we could have stock intros and endings, but that doesn't seem
like a good idea to me. The majority of podcasts have new intros and
endings based on the content per episode if for no other reason to
give the date of the cast, the episode number, and the contributor or
contributors to the cast. So if we want to be semi-professional about
this we need someone with a clear brodcasting voice to do the weekly
or podcast intros.

Cheers!

On 11/6/13, shaun everiss sm.ever...@gmail.com wrote:
well there are 2 ways to handle those.
 1. have the intro and endings prerecorded then just put them in or

The second approach could allow for changes, in content, etc.

The first one would allow easier and quicker implimentation though
they would be the same intros and endings.

Well, that could be a problem, but I think what we are looking for in

Hi Tom.

Depending upon how often it was required I would be glad to reccord an intro
and ending comments to the podcast, (I could definitely do a monthly
commitment but weekly might be a struggle).

Though equally it might be a good idea to have whoever was responsable for
editing various parts of the podcast program together to be host as well
since then they could add musical jingles and so on, which is unfortunately
a skill I don't particularly have (I would not claime to know anything about
sound editing).

Perhaps someone like Kelly Sepergia might be willing to give this a go?

If however you just want someone to speak some hopefully insiteful words on
audeasy and say hello and what is coming in the podcast I could probably do
that, and no, I wouldn't indulge in all the vocal shenanigans I did
with my podcasts, (or at least not too much).

All the best,

Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] Audyssey Magazine

2013-11-06 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Shaun,

Well, I know a lot of people are a bit lazy in regards to spelling,
proper grammar, punctuation, etc but I think the also forget that
practice makes perfect. The more a person gets use to spelling words
correctly, adding correct punctuation, and using proper grammar in a
casual document like an email those habits will pay off when it comes
to writing a professional or semi-professional article, essay, etc.
The more you get in a habit of doing it right the first time the less
complicated and difficult it will be to do it when it is necessary.

That is why in math a student may have to do 20 problems in class and
often times will get the same problem written a different way like 10
times 5 on one page and 5 times 10 on the next. The more a person
practices doing it the more likely it is the student will see a
problem like 10 times 5 and automatically know 50 is the answer.
Spelling, grammar, good punctuation, etc are no different. The more
you do it casually you'll be better able to do it when writing an
article for a publication or writing an important letter to someone in
authority.

Cheers!

2013-11-06 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Shaun,

As I said before the senior editor of the magazine actually puts the
magazine together. If we were talking a professional magazine like
News Week, Readers Digest, Popular Mechanics, etc there is a senior
editor who goes through and selects the articles that will go in the
magazine, organizes them, and puts it in its final form before it goes
to press. Under the senior editor their may be lower ranking editors
who proofreads the submissions sent in from their journalists and
writers for errors, and send it back to the author with suggestions to
correct, change, modify, etc. When the article is in a publishable
form they submit it to the senior editor for possible selection and
inclusion into the final draft of the magazine. Make sense?

Cheers!

As for justification keep in mind there is only one moderator and that

Re: [Audyssey] Moderator Notice was Audyssey Magazine

2013-11-06 Thread shaun everiss
I apologise to you and the list didn't mean to put anyone down at
all, its just that I dislike it when some choose to think that the
blind can only play simple games.
And not seem to even acknowledge that others exist, granted they may
actually look.

most of what I have said in this case was not directed at anyone on here.
I have been going through a patch and am not usually that negitive at
least I hope I am not.
I am trying to be constructive aggreeing with points and trying to
make new ones.

I don't come out to make enemies.
Yes my opinions are quite strong and I realise that I can't just go
blurting them out, I will try to clean myself up in future.

At 02:40 AM 11/6/2013, you wrote:

Hi Shaun,

That's it. You have just crossed the line with this post below. I am
now placing you on indefinite moderation, because you have gone way
too far with your insults and put downs of various people. Here is a
few examples of what I am talking about so you and everyone else knows
what kind of insults and inflammatory comments will not be tolerated
on this list from you or anyone else.

Quote
At any rate we don't want the poor, super mentally mangled blind as
the image for the magazine.
End Quote

I find this comment disgusting, very insulting, and way out of line.
One of the jobs of a competent editor is to reject posts that are not
up to the magazine's standards, to correct errors where and when
necessary, and to produce a professional and decent publication. So
not only have you insulted anyone who may submit an article it is also
a put down of the editor/editors who run the magazine.

Quote
My suspicion is the poor blind, super blind, mental blind, and stupid
dumb helpless blind nut which has been growing thicker and thicker may
be a quite hard nut to crack and will need a goodly sized hammer to
smash if it can ever be smashed.
End quote

This comment alone made me strongly consider just banning you from the
list. Calling people stupid, mental, poor, etc won't win you friends
or make people on this list want to have you around here any more.
Frankly put I was rather incensed by this comment and felt like
banning you from the list, but decided to simply put you on indefinite
moderation which was the most lenient punishment I could think about
for these negative comments from you. I know other moderators who
would have given you the bums rush and just booted you from the list
and I still may end up doing that if this garbage doesn't stop
immediately.

Quote
We do not need the poor helpless blind playing games by Asabat and Jaws.
End quote

Again, you are needlessly being insulting to your fellow blind peers
by calling them poor and helpless. You also don't need to put down
Asabat and Jaws. Neither product I would choose for myself, but
calling them yuck is very negative and not very constructive.

In short, I myself do not have much nice to say about your recent
post, and as usual you have written a long rambling message of garbage
full of put downs, insults, and useless comments that neither adds to
or makes a constructive point. Its a waste of time reading it, and if
you continue to send such useless and unintelligent posts to the list
I'll have no choice but to ban you from the list. To be blunt clean up
your messages, or you will get the boot. I'm tired of it.

Sincerely,
Thomas Ward

Hi Lindsay.

Well it depends upon what people are developing for.

Aprone, David Greenwood, Jim Kitchin and spoonbill still develop for pc and
all have released games this year, however more new developers are turning
to the Iphone, as a newer platform with other possibilities of control and a
very wide distribution, though that being said there are still occasionally
games like the inquisitor which have releases for both, not to mention games
developed with Bgt.

Then there are online games and muds that are multiplatform.

Remember though not all games get announced on the audeasy list, indeed I
have noticed myself new developers and people asking questions don't tend to
come to the list which is another reason why audeasy could really do with a
professional website with useful articles.

Certainly however if your looking to keep up with new developments and
releases I'd recommend checking out pcsgames.net and audiogames.net.

Lastly however, Lindsay if you haven't got an Iphone but are interested in
games I would! actually recommend trying one out if you can simply because
there are some very unique games for the Iphone that just couldn't be bought
out on pc due to use of technology like the touch screen or gyroscope.

2013-11-06 Thread Dallas O'Brien
hi. it's also due to the fact, that its farely easy for a dev that
already has a game on iOS, to implement voiceover accessibility. such
as what the developer of solara has done. it is now amazingly
accessible, yet it was not that way to start with. he has put in a
huge effert, and it has payed off big time for him.
this is simply because, voiceover is actually part of the system, so
no need to code your game for 5 or 8 or what ever number of screen
readers are commonly used in windows. and yes, also, mobile devices
are taking over for a lot of games now. although there are some that
are just suited to a pc better still, some games really do work better
on a mobile device, both because of the touch screen, though this is
less important now as windows moves into this field, and also the
motion detection.

someone made something close to what they produce with out the video

accessibility needs to be discussed in terms of the group or groups

Cheers!

maybe others may think the same stereotype about the sighted though
that is getting less and less the case.
My third statement was more if we got sued for copywrite over using
copywrited materials, and an inability to probably fund any suits
should we loose never mind other things related, since we are
disabled we have harder time getting jobs generally though this is
not always the case, it is if you like a pet fear of being stuck in a

If we ever got into legal trouble, I do wander with the little we may
have, cash wise what could we do if others decided to walk over us,
yes I know the same applies to everyone which is not a big giant

user in the middle, being disabled just brings it closer to home
since I have no idea what I would do in this situation and I would
feel poor and helpless at that point.

A good idea is to listen to your message before you send it. If something
sounds wrong, it probably is wrong. If it goes on and on and on with no
pausing, check the punctuation. If a word sounds wrong, check the spelling
or use a spell checker. If you don't have one, fond one through a search
engine. There are free ones available. HTH.

The more
you do it casually you'll be better able to do it when writing an
article for a publication or writing an important letter to someone in
authority.

Cheers!

I actually listened to a podcast on coolblindtech.com yesterday and must
admit that its quite good.
I have a recording of the origional papasangre and night jar and while both
of these were good papa 2 really does rock.
I in particular like the notion of stealing memmory and other such things.
Sertainly a lot more to do in this game.
I do hope at some point someone will post an entire playthrough of this
game.

At this point, I'm so busy getting my knickers in a knot attempting to
get the hang of consistent movement using giro that the ducks are the
least of my worries lol.

The sound design in this is beyond good. I haven't recognised the

So yeah, to sum up, one fanboy checking in.

Hi Shaun,

Well, we could have stock intros and endings, but that doesn't seem like a
good idea to me. The majority of podcasts have new intros and endings based
on the content per episode if for no other reason to give the date of the
cast, the episode number, and the contributor or contributors to the cast.
So if we want to be semi-professional about this we need someone with a
clear brodcasting voice to do the weekly or podcast intros.

Cheers!

Hi Lindsay,

Well, not really. It is just that the iOS market has more developers
now working on accessible games than does Windows, Mac, or Linux and
in a way games for iOS etc are more popular for that reason. All the

Saddle up kids, apparently it's time for our regular feature.

On this week's installment of Head Meets Wall, you'll read about...
erm... absolutely nothing new. Seriously, it's just a re-run of the

What's that you say? You'd rather eat your own shoes than watch
another round of Head Meets Wall unfold, and you think that only one
fresh attempt should be allowed per each release of the Audyssey

a non-optional repetitive treat. We all are. All 300 or so of us.

Yay.

Hi All,

To those playing Papa Sangre II, as mentioned before, in addition to the
difficulty walking in the game, I also seem to be finding pretty serious issues
with the controls locking / hanging in general.

I'm wondering, is anyone else seeing this? People had mentioned others are
having some issues walking but do you find you're also having issues
occasionally with just general use of the controls as well?

As I've said, I've had a super easy time using the Papa and NightJar controls
before, and my touches are really pretty precise as I've used the iPhone for
quite some time, but it just seems that the simplest actions with a single
touch are just not registering when I need them to. It's like something in the
game is hanging but I cannot work out a pattern yet at this point. I'll be
walking along just fine, and then suddenly for no reason that I can discern,
the controls will lock, and the game will not allow me to move anymore for a
few seconds. The closest I can come to a profile for this behavior would be
that it seems to happen while using Gyro mode when several sounds are playing
or when speech is happening during active play. I.E. not during instruction or
cut scenes where the controls are obviously meant to be locked.

I was thinking this was just my own adrenaline perhaps causing me to get a bit
sloppy with my control of the game but after having this happen on some very
simple actions, such as doing a single tap to work with one's hand in the game,
and having it just not respond for several single discreet taps, (even done
slowly / extra carefully) this really does seem to be a game issue.

Also, in my own development experience, I know it is possible to get single
taps to respond extremely quickly (much much faster than in this game) I've
done it. :) (Adventure game in LookTel VoiceOver Tutorial)

So the Papa II controls seem to be really annoyingly hanging at some points
which is causing me to not be able to complete some levels due to running out
of time at crucial sections of the game. This is just obnoxious and makes the
game more frustrating than fun, unfortunately! lol! :)

This is a great game and I'd really like to finish it. :)

Anyway, if anyone knows of a way to offer feedback or possible suggestions, I'd
love to. This is definitely the best game from Somethin' Else at this point, in
my opinion. So I'd really like to see this working well. So anything I can do,
I'd be happy to.

Just for info, I'm running this on an iPHone 5.

Thanks All, and have a great day!…

Smiles,

Cara :)

Hi Shaun,

Hi,

I just downloaded the podcast files from the PG13 site which was posted in

Maybe someone has the file already and can upload it to dropbox or

that would be even better. *smiles*

And before the questions start coming, the site I'm talking about is:

have new intros and endings each time.
The second approach could allow for changes, in content, etc.

The first one would allow easier and quicker implimentation though
they would be the same intros and endings.

[Audyssey] Zany touch some questions

2013-11-06 Thread dark
Hi.

Well I've just listened to Darren's podcast about Zany touch with a view to
adding it to the db, then downloaded the free version of the game and gave it a
try, however I have a few questions.

Firstly, I couldn't seem to get the gestures to work properly. touch and shake
were okay, however when someone says to me swipe on an iphone I think three
fingers, however it quickly became clear this wasn't the case, yet even when I
tried pushing the tip of my finger over the surface it didn't seem to work.
Likewise when I tried medium, I lost out on pinch even though I did exactly
what I tried for the pinch in smack me which worked fine.

Then, I wonder exactly what the difference between the free and paid versions
is. i downloaded the free version but was a little surprised to see it had all
the features which Darren mentioned in his podcast, multiple difficulties, name
posting etc, so other than supporting the developer what exactly do you get for
buying the game?

does the free version conk out somewhere along the line? or does the paid
version have some other features (a gesture practice might be nice).

Lastly, one thing I was wondering about with zany touch was exactly if the
background music changed at all, since after all that's a major feature of
smack me.

All the best,

Dark.

Also, when not punctuated, a screen reader spits the message out as one
long, continuous string of words, which makes no sense.

Did you notice that your screen put natural pauses in the first part of

See? You might have to go through that part, word by word, to really get
the meaning, even though the spelling was right. Punctuation makes a huge
difference when it comes to being understood. Thanks.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] Zany touch some questions

2013-11-06 Thread Sarah Haake

Hi Dark,

I'll try to answer at least a few of your questions here.

As far as I know, the background music doesn't change at all, it just gets
faster and stays at the fastest level when you play long enough.

I really can't remember now what the differences between the free and paid
versions are, I have the paid version for quite some time now. It could be
that just advertisements get removed.

Regarding the gestures, the swipe is just a swipe with one finger. And the
pinch is a lot more difficult here than in Smack me if you ask me. I
myself lose quite often when pinching comes up. The main thing is that you
have to be really quick on doing it, even when the game speed is still slow
at the beginning. And make sure that both fingers with wich you perform the
gesture touch the screen properly. That's all I can tell you really.

Hope this helps out a bit.

Best regards
Sarah

Re: [Audyssey] Zany touch some questions

2013-11-06 Thread Charles Rivard
The only thing that changes, as far as the music goes, is the speed. And it
remains the same once you attain a certain speed.

As for the paid version versus the free, you don't get commercials.

The swipe gesture on the iPhone, note the capitalization to correct the
pronunciation, is with 1 finger.

The pinch gesture is not easily done. I lose quite a few games when having
to do it.

Re: [Audyssey] Zany touch some questions

2013-11-06 Thread dark

Hi Sarah.

I'm a little disappointed about the music situation, indeed it sort of seems
a shame that smack me is a much more interesting game in it's audio but
doesn't have half as many gestures or accessible buttons while zany touch is
the other way around.

I'll need to check if I can get the pinch thing to work.

The main thing is that you
have to be really quick on doing it, even when the game speed is still
slow at the beginning. And make sure that both fingers with wich you
perform the gesture touch the screen properly. That's all I can tell you
really.

Hope this helps out a bit.

Best regards
Sarah

Re: [Audyssey] Zany touch some questions

2013-11-06 Thread dark
Thanks for the info, it does generally seem the gestures in Zany touch are
harder, though I'm a little sorry the game doesn't have a more interesting
audio atmosphere, it's actually a bit of a shame that smack me has the nice
8bit style music, but less good gameplay and worse accessibility, while zany
touch is the better designed game but just doesn't have the soundscape.

Regarding the free vvs paid version, well I didn't notice any adverts,
though it's entirely possible I missed them due to vo's position, which does
seem one advantage with some games on the Iphone.

Rgarding Iphone capitalisation, well really Charlse I emvy you! if the
biggest problem in your life is people's missplaced eyes, you must be a very
happy man! and if capitalisation is not! your biggest problem, well why
do you expend so much effort on it?

Frankly I never cared much about this irregular capitalisation to begin with
(after all it's not even gramatically correct since it should be the first
letter of propper names that is capitalised), and the more fuss you make
about this the less I care.

The only thing that changes, as far as the music goes, is the speed. And
it remains the same once you attain a certain speed.

As for the paid version versus the free, you don't get commercials.

The swipe gesture on the iPhone, note the capitalization to correct the
pronunciation, is with 1 finger.

The pinch gesture is not easily done. I lose quite a few games when
having to do it.

Subject: [Audyssey] Zany touch some questions

Hi.

Well I've just listened to Darren's podcast about Zany touch with a view
to adding it to the db, then downloaded the free version of the game and
gave it a try, however I have a few questions.

Firstly, I couldn't seem to get the gestures to work properly. touch and
shake were okay, however when someone says to me swipe on an iphone I
think three fingers, however it quickly became clear this wasn't the
case, yet even when I tried pushing the tip of my finger over the surface
it didn't seem to work. Likewise when I tried medium, I lost out on
pinch even though I did exactly what I tried for the pinch in smack me
which worked fine.

Then, I wonder exactly what the difference between the free and paid
versions is. i downloaded the free version but was a little surprised to
see it had all the features which Darren mentioned in his podcast,
multiple difficulties, name posting etc, so other than supporting the
developer what exactly do you get for buying the game?

does the free version conk out somewhere along the line? or does the paid
version have some other features (a gesture practice might be nice).

Lastly, one thing I was wondering about with zany touch was exactly if
the background music changed at all, since after all that's a major
feature of smack me.

All the best,

Dark.

`
Papa Sangre II By Playground Publishing B.V
You'll have nightmares for days after playing Somethin' Else's spookily
excellent audio-only survival horror game, Papa Sangre II. This sequel to
the innovative 2010 original returns you to the land of the dead in a hunt
for trapped memories, this time guided by the voice of Game of Thrones star
Sean Bean, who brings a delightful British charm to the proceedings. Papa
Sangre II builds well on the successes of its predecessor.

Precise hearing and a solid set of headphones are needed to get through the
22 increasingly tough levels, all of which are presented without graphics,
the screen shows only a compass, two hands, and two feet during play. Papa
Sangre II relies upon its atmospheric three-dimensional audio design to
create a piercing tension so intense, it's hard to play for more than a few
minutes at a time. Gyroscope integration means you'll need to literally turn
around in circles as you play, and you'll tap alternately on the left and
right sides of the screen to walk forward. The controls work well, and they
add to the atmosphere, leaving you suitably disoriented in a hostile
environment where monsters lurk in the darkness and an unreliable narrator
eggs you on.

It's all backed by stellar writing and voice acting, which are punctuated by
a macabre sense of humor, and frustration soon takes hold as the difficulty
ramps up rapidly in the second half of the game. Timing becomes critical,
and more and more layers of sound add to a confusion that sometimes trips
into overwhelming territory for all but the most hearing-adept. Two skip
tickets soften the pain of repeated failures.
Many players may find Papa Sangre II's fascinating and horrifying adventure
physically impossible to complete, which is a shame.

The bottom line. Papa Sangre II's audio-only horror adventure

Re: [Audyssey] iOS audio horror games.

2013-11-06 Thread Charles Rivard
Speaking of horror, I! will! not! beware! the! grue!! I fear no grue! Hmm.
Maybe some developer of audio games will come up with a game in which we
must face the grue, and name it after Dark?

Re: [Audyssey] Papa Sangre II Controls Hanging

2013-11-06 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi there,

Swipe mode is explained in the Settings screen of the game.

Tap the Settings button from the main screen to get to the settings page.

Here you will see a number of buttons for the various control modes for the
game.

One of these modes is Swipe mode.

this does exactly as its name implies. I.E. you control your avatar's direction
using the swipe gesture. A one-finger swipe left or right, anywhere on the
screen during gameplay will rotate your avatar in that direction. Continue
swiping and you will continue rotating.

Does this make sense?

Have a great evening!

Cara :)

 Hi All,

To those playing Papa Sangre II, as mentioned before, in addition to the
difficulty walking in the game, I also seem to be finding pretty serious
issues with the controls locking / hanging in general.

It's like something in
the game is hanging but I cannot work out a pattern yet at this point. I'll
be walking along just fine, and then suddenly for no reason that I can
discern, the controls will lock, and the game will not allow me to move
anymore for a few seconds. The closest I can come to a profile for this
behavior would be that it seems to happen while using Gyro mode when several
sounds are playing or when speech is happening during active play. I.E. not
during instruction or cut scenes where the controls are obviously meant to be
 locked.

I was thinking this was just my own adrenaline perhaps causing me to get a
bit sloppy with my control of the game but after having this happen on some
very simple actions, such as doing a single tap to work with one's hand in
the game, and having it just not respond for several single discreet taps,
(even done slowly / extra carefully) this really does seem to be a game issue.

Anyway, if anyone knows of a way to offer feedback or possible suggestions,
I'd love to. This is definitely the best game from Somethin' Else at this
point, in my opinion. So I'd really like to see this working well. So
anything I can do, I'd be happy to.

Just for info, I'm running this on an iPHone 5.

Thanks All, and have a great day!…

 Smiles,

Wonder if that'll make any difference to what you're seeing?

hand in the game, and having it just not respond for several single
discreet taps, (even done slowly / extra carefully) this really does seem
 to be a game issue.

Also, in my own development experience, I know it is possible to get
single taps to respond extremely quickly (much much faster than in this
game) I've done it. :) (Adventure game in LookTel VoiceOver Tutorial)

So the Papa II controls seem to be really annoyingly hanging at some
points which is causing me to not be able to complete some levels due to
running out of time at crucial sections of the game. This is just
obnoxious and makes the game more frustrating than fun, unfortunately!
 lol! :)

This is a great game and I'd really like to finish it. :)

Anyway, if anyone knows of a way to offer feedback or possible
suggestions, I'd love to. This is definitely the best game from Somethin'
Else at this point, in my opinion. So I'd really like to see this working
well. So anything I can do, I'd be happy to.

Just for info, I'm running this on an iPHone 5.

Thanks All, and have a great day!…

 Smiles,

 Cara :)

Make sure you start using your hands as soon as you know that you have fallen

 Hope this helps.

Working fine and dandy on a 5 here, but I'm not turning VO off. It
means touching the screen one time after each level loads, but then
you're into direct touch so I figured I wouldn't bother turning VO
 off.

Wonder if that'll make any difference to what you're seeing?

I'm actually turning VO off while the load happens. So I'll tap on a level,
and then turn VO off while the level loads.

I'll try waiting until the level loads and see what happens.

Thanks so much for the tip and will try this out later today!

 Have a great day!

Hi, are you turning Vie Over off and on before the game loads? I discovered
that if you wait until it loads before turning it on and off it will work
 fine.

 Hi All,

To those playing Papa Sangre II, as mentioned before, in addition to the
difficulty walking in the game, I also seem to be finding pretty serious
issues with the controls locking / hanging in general.

I'm wondering, is anyone else seeing this? People had mentioned others are
having some issues walking but do you find you're also having issues
occasionally with just general use of the controls as well?

As I've said, I've had a super easy time using the Papa and NightJar
controls before, and my touches are really pretty precise as I've used the
iPhone for quite some time, but it just seems that the simplest actions
with a single touch are just not registering when I need them to. It's
like something in the game is hanging but I cannot work out a pattern yet
at this point. I'll be walking along just fine, and then suddenly for no
reason that I can discern, the controls will lock, and the game will not
allow me to move anymore for a few seconds. The closest I can come to a
profile for this behavior would be that it seems to happen while using
Gyro mode when several sounds are playing or when speech is happening
during active play. I.E. not during instruction or cut scenes where the
controls are obviously meant to be locked.

I was thinking this was just my own adrenaline perhaps causing me to get a
bit sloppy with my control of the game but after having this happen on
some very simple actions, such as doing a single tap to work with one's

Re: [Audyssey] iOS audio horror games.

2013-11-06 Thread dark

Well people don't face grues, they get eaten!

though a grue did turn up in my comedy dungeons gamebook adventure and what
thoughts i've had for a sequel also involve a grue.

Beware the Grue!

Speaking of horror, I! will! not! beware! the! grue!! I fear no grue!
Hmm. Maybe some developer of audio games will come up with a game in which
we must face the grue, and name it after Dark?

Hi michael.

Again, just like the last time someone asked about horror, well what do
you mean by horror?

For example, several of the choiceofgames feature monsters such as
vampires and zombies or battles with alien monsters.

The game soul trapper I believe involves an interactive audio drama story
with ghosts and demons and such, and if I remember rightly blindside is a
similar interactive audio drama set in some sort of appocalypse, and
there are likely more especially when you start considdering interactive
fiction and such.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.
