Your pretty much liited to just trading, haulage or elliegal missions at the start, but there is combat, mining and farm owning later. One really clever thing about the game though is it's physics and travel system. There were comparatively few planets and such to go to, and all of them had real orbits in X Y and Z access. your travel time was calculated in real time and so you literally had to start your ship off and then wait for it to arrive hours later. Fortunately the travel tools were very useful, as were the various trade indexes. it was a nice idea for a game, but extremely slow, especially as it took literally weeks to get into a ship that could handle combat or get to own a farm or factory, and I'm not sure how much by way of new things to do those added to the game. I will say the community was pretty good, indeed there was a lot of friendly player interaction and though some players did get to be pirates it took such a long time mostly they only attacked people with similarly massive ships, or took out npcs, so no newbie bashing. then again it's literally about ten years sinse I played the game so it wouldn't surprise me if more has been added sinse, actually I hope it has. Re: [Audyssey] Question
Hello Ishan, Kevin use to co-moderate the Audyssey list with Brenda during the early days of the list. I'd say from 2000 to 2005 or so. Later on he took over as list owner while leaving the list up to Raul and I to moderate. However, the job of owner has fallen upon me, and I still moderate the list myself, and eventually will probably find a couple of moderators to take over that part of day to day list management to free myself up with other things. As for the meaning of the name its nothing too complicated. The word odyssey, spelled o d y s s e y, is used to simply mean an adventure or quest. However, since most of our games are based on audio Michael Feir took the word audio and merged it with odyssey to come up with Audyssey, spelled a u d y s s e y, which means an audio adventure. Make sense? Cheers! On 5/31/14, ishan dhami ishan1dha...@gmail.com wrote: Who is Kevin? Re: [Audyssey] BGT Important Update
Hi Valiant, Possibly, but the fact of the matter is the scripting component of BGT, Angelscript, is already open source. I don't know if Philips script compiler is a completely custom script compiler or one based on open source examples, but the point here is that someone could probably use the existing open source examples of Angelscript compilers to decompile games compiled with BGT if they wanted to. So keeping BGT as closed source for that reason alone might be giving developers a sense of false security. The thing to remember is if somebody wants to hack or crack something bad enough they will. The question is not if they can but how hard it is to do it. Cheers! On 5/31/14, Valiant8086 valiant8...@gmail.com wrote: I think open source would be a bad idea probably. Hi Philip, Thanks for all the hard work you have done to bring us this great product. I think considering the situation you are making the right decision. I don't believe abandoning it and releasing it as abandonware would have been the right thing, but equally if you can't support the product commercially then releasing it as freeware is the next best thing. It alleviates the pressure of offering support etc while still making it available to everyone who wants to use the product for game development. You have put a lot of time and work into this project just to let it go as freeware, and for that you deserve our thanks. Cheers! Re: [Audyssey] Question about Cyberassault
Yes there is. Its a bit of hack and bash but it works. 1. get 7zip from sevenzip.sourceforge.net Next, install that and set all the files in associations to well be active for your account at least. Make sure the shell menus are active they should be automatically. go to www.gammon.com.au/files/mushclient and download the highest numbered exe file. Go to www.mush-z.com and get the mush-z full package. Install mush-z and then using 7zip extrac the mushclient exe file to the mush-z folder overiding all the files. With this done run mushclient. you will need the capture mud output plugin the screenreader plugin the omit blank lines plugin and the capture to output window plugin, and there may be one more. Then make your world up and you can go play. Note this does not give you sfx, I am not sure if cyber has a soundpack for mush. In fact, it has become more popular than I could ever have imagined when I first started developing it back in 2009. So in terms of adoption and community, it has been a definite success. However, financially the picture is a little different. I knew when I first envisioned it that it would not sell very much, seeing as how it is targeting a small subset of the blind community which in itself is not that large to begin with. However, over the years it has become apparent just how small the potential market is. I have concluded that I can no longer justify working on it to the extent that I did in the beginning, and on top of that I am involved in a lot of other projects which take up the absolute majority of my time. For the last few months I have been debating back and forth with myself what the right course of action would be. One option is to simply make it abandonware and forget about it, but I do not like that alternative. Another option would be to continue selling it and releasing updates in the little free time that I am able to dedicate to it, but that seems unfair to the users who have paid for a product that they expect updates and prompt support for. I dismissed that. The final option that I have actually chosen to go for, is to make the product free but not abandon it. I will continue to maintain it, adding new features as time permits and fixing any bugs that spring up as soon as I can. I will keep the forum online, and I will continue to accept sponsorships from those who want to see a new feature in the engine and are willing to pay a little something for it to happen. Simply put, a fully functional version of the engine can now be downloaded free of charge from www.blastbay.com. Be sure to uninstall any prior version that you may have on your system before installing this new one, as it contains some minor incompatibilities. No no, the BGT engine is just for testing out your script. Your code is written in a text editor, Notepad being the one most people recommended since other programs ted to add formatting that'll play havoc with BGT. All you do is write your code in notepad and, when yousave it, add te extention .bgt to the filename. This tells BGT that it's a script. THen when you click on the BGT icon and it asks for the script you open your new script. It'll either run it or, if there are errors point them out for you. So keeping BGT as closed source for that reason alone might be giving developers a sense of false security. The thing to remember is if somebody wants to hack or crack something bad enough they will. I will continue to maintain the product as I mentioned previously, but please understand that any emails you send to me with questions about how to write this or that piece of code will probably go unanswered. The right place to ask such questions is the Blastbay forum. I do visit the forum fairly frequently and will continue to respond to queries whenever I am able, but please do not get upset if you don't hear back from me quickly.
