Thanks Dark, Phil, and Jon! This is really appreciated! So Phil, all I
have right now is Win 10 so does that mean Sarah won't work?

Thank you. I was gone nomail from the list and came back to find this
out. I forgot where I heard about it, but was very very shocked as I
did not think he wouldn't recover. In fact, he'd just gone in to the
hospital when I left the list. He and Jim were always present and
always had time for those on the list. Is anyone hosting any of his
games? I was saddened since I fully intended to buy The Sarah Game and
I wanted the one that featured Angela Carter too, but due to ongoing
upheaval and turmoil in my own life and finances it never seemed the
right time. Very, very sad indeed! He is definitely missed around

H I might. that is, if they deposit my SSI into my account! I
can't call anybody cuz my phone is off, and now that delays my
automatic payment for my things in storage. Thought I could count on
my sister to bring me by Social Security today, but of course, she's

purchase A Hero's Call since it is only $15, but that's not gonna
happen either since the campaign ends tomorrow!

Um, I used to have a desktop and it was cool cuz I was the only one
using it to have all my games icons available on the desktop. Now I
don't have it and would not like to clutter up my desktop on the
laptop. How do I save the games so that they are easily accessible to
me, but not have the icons on the desktop. Where do they go incase
things don't work as expected so I can locate them?

2016-01-15 Thread Danielle Ledet
May go that route but what limitations will I need to be aware of with
a $20 or $45 plan. I pay that now and it's not a smartphone. Also, is
it worth buying an iPhone 4s now that we are now at iPhone 6 and IOS 9
or something? again how will I be blocked out of stuff, and if not a
4S what's the next best option? Apoligies fornot changing the subject
line accordingly but I already typed my message and didn't want to
risk having to retype it.

[Audyssey] Disney Infinity, Lego Dimensions, and Skylanders

2015-11-28 Thread Danielle Ledet
Hey everyone,

I have two boys, who would really like this, and a girl, who might, as
well, and I just came across those games. Does anyone or there kids
play them? I know at one time somebody had started a Wiki for
store-bought game systems and video games playable by the blind. I too
used to play them by ear during my teen years. How do I get started?
there are lots of figures and pieces so what do I need to purchase
aside from a PlayStation or Xbox so my kids can play?

Charles, I could not have expressed it any better! I dislike the fact
folks can just modify code at will. The right person able to do this
can cause loads of trouble without even sending a virus either way
damage is done! Anybody with that kind of advanced savvy is dangerous!

Sorry for the cross posting but would like to help these researchers out. I
will add that I took the survey but was a mainframe programmer & the survey
is not geared to that platform.

Re: [Audyssey] The Game of "Say What"

2015-11-17 Thread Danielle Ledet
Yep Cara is right! It is great fun. I used to own that and bought it
for me and my kids to play. Hubby wasn't interested in the long-term.
The balls represent words or phrases and you have to remember the
sentence and try to put the correc balls in each slot. Pretty cool and
we all enjoyed it. If the link is still in working order somebody did
a podcast of It on BlindCoolTech. That is where I heard of it and went
out and got it. What ashamed Larry and his crew aren't doing anymore
podcasts that was my favorite site to visit regularly and learn. I
especially enjoyed the soundseeing tours he and his girlfriend Liz
often did. I don't have it in my possession anymore though. It should
still be made. Let me know if you find it I'd like to get it again!
There are very few off the shelf games for us.

Re: [Audyssey] New horror and adventure sidescroller, The gate!

2015-10-15 Thread Danielle Ledet
You know it never ceases to amaze, excite, and piss me off all at once
when yalll post all this great and wonderful stuff about a brand-new
game, or one that yall really want or wish others would or are
playing, and long description and then *don't* post a pickup link. I
*can not* stand second third sixth and 20th portions or batches of the
same post! It annoys the hell out of me when I have to wait for an
entirely new crop of posts, usually ith someone asking for a game
executable link! I get enough daily mail without having multiple damn
mail threads on the same subject! And yes, I have addressed my
frustrations on other lists as well. The problem is not that I get too
much mail to manage, it's ignorance and selfish posters! Why can't we
all tighten up, and post right? With clarity, brevity, thoughtfulness,
and consideration for others and their time! Let me know if I have
made myself clear enough!

Re: [Audyssey] game archive project?

2015-08-10 Thread Danielle Ledet
Oh awww darn! I had a pretty good selection oh well if not all but all
of the IF titles, twice. Guess what? Both my desktops got whammed one
with graphic parn out of nowhere and the other went silent after
letting fam use it in my absence. I could've contributed. Well, I'd
love to see this come to fruition because I became frustrated trying
to find installers in the past. Itd be great to be able to ask for a
game and get a working direct executable link.

On 8/10/15, john jpcarnemo...@gmail.com wrote:
My concern with providing official access to the keygen is that I don't know

who has legal access to it.
I suppose from a technical standpoint its only piracy if you actually use
the generator - but I'm not sure that's a line I particularly want to walk,

especially if I'm trying to make this archive something the whole community

knows about. It'd be different if I was considering offering it to a single

person, but if I'm going to say email me and I'll send you whatever you
want then I want to be a lot more careful.
I want the archive to be a place people can go to get games - but I also
 don't want to get sued.
My stance on this is a bit more paranoid than some - I've seen a number of
different links for bsc floating around - but especially if I'm acting in an

official capacity as archive manager as opposed to myself I'd rather be
 caucious.

 Hi John,
I would certainly like to see something like that, and I would certainly be
willing to contribute what I have.
One thing I would say though, is that since the BSC software is abandoned,
and the key generator was once sold, couldn't we get access to that
alongside the other stuff? I say we either give full availability to the
product where such availability has been granted, or don't host any kind of
paid material at all if it can no longer be purchased. I say this because I
know how I would feel, both emotionally as a potential customer and
conscientiously as a developer, having a game which I know has more
functionality than the demo allows and not being able to play it. I can
understand it from both points of view.
 Cheers.
 Damien.

 Subject: [Audyssey] game archive project?

 Hi list,

Recently I've been thinking about all the messages and posts I've seen
 where
somebody's asking a question like where can I find game x, or game y is
gone, does anybody have a copy.

As a result, I'm wondering how the community would feel about a game
archive project. Basically, my idea is that those of us who have large
collections of games would work to create a central repository, and then
 send out installers on request.

My current vision for this project is something like the following:

*The archive will keep a copy of any and all games that can be found, as
well as versions of the same game that offer a noticeable difference in
gameplay, sounds, storyline, etc. Example: swamp version 3.6 would be kept,
3.5 would not, 1.1 would (because it has a single player mission different
 gameplay and different sounds).

*Only legal games will be distributed. Example: the setup for bsc games,
 but
not the key generator. Requesting an illegal product could result in a
blacklist of the person (or email if name cannot be determined).

*Requests will be handled on a case-by-case basis; I'm considering either
using dropbox file requests or just plane old email. The reason for this is
mostly related to web site management - I could probably build a page for
each author, but keeping it updated would be a pain, and it'd require huge
amounts of storage space (my personal archive of installers is 8gb, and its
 really not that comprehensive).

I've got a few reasons for wanting to work on this.

Firstly, is the fact that there's no real central location for games. A lot
of people have installers, and pretty much any game can be found if you do
enough digging on audiogames.net, but not all of them are still hosted,
which makes finding games (like rail racer) a pain.

Secondly, is that I'd personally love to see a really solid location where
we can browse and access old abandonware titles or just older versions of
games that aren't on the dev's web site anymore.

How do you all feel about this (developers, I'd love to hear from you
especially), and if I were to try to make this a reality, who'd be willing
to dedicate some time to help me put together the archive?

people not just being able to play jim's games but reading the
 descriptions

Just one question. It is possible that people will create more golf

 these

As far as burning a few CD's. I would be willing to burn a few CD's for

and materials which covers the cost of the CD blanks, printer ink,
 postage

and a little something for my time. I am willing to cover the costs for
20 CD's. Any more than that, and I'd need to charge a little something

Ah, I sort of assume that with the number of Ca players on this list an the
fact that announcements were made about the mud's events and so on there
was more by way of actual adaptation, eg, removal of ascii art, combat
 fixes, easy mapping commands etc.

Unfortunately that does mean I can't give the mud a page on audiogames.net,
sinse the site db just exists for muds with some sort of in built access
changes, this is also why wayfare1444 hasn't got a page.

Btw, this isn't to say people shouldn't play it or anything stupid like
that, just that audiogames.net isn't the mud connector, :D.

 read the text.

As far as burning a few CD's. I would be willing to burn a few CD's for
distribution. When we ship CD's, we charge $5.00 for burning, shipping
and materials which covers the cost of the CD blanks, printer ink, postage

and a little something for my time. I am willing to cover the costs for
20 CD's. Any more than that, and I'd need to charge a little something
for it, partially because of the wear and tear on our equipment.

As Jeremy said: For an idea that was only a mere suggestion a little over

a week ago, that's a lot of progress.
Lets keep thrashing things out and make something that will help people
who don't know that such things exist, find audiogames to enjoy.

work by the person doing the burning. I'm not saying that it'd be
impossible, but that making audio cds as a primary form of distribution for

the entire leaflet is probably not our best idea.
Further, there'd also be the fact of narration - I know a lot of people who

would not want to listen to what is essentially a glorified advertisement
done by synthesizer. Therefore, we'd have to have somebody narrate the whole

thing (professionally, not some internal mic with background hiss), and then

 somebody to edit that narration.
The idea of an audiogames cd has its own merits - if we wanted, we could put

together trailors of a number of different games and distribute them on the

cd along with our introduction, but I think that such a project is a bit
beyond the scope of what we're currently considering.

Scott I just don't feel it need be that complicated and involved.
Aren't games a fun activity and overall experience? I mean no one is
losing money and can't pay next months rent, having their reputations
ruined, or endangering themselves or their family and/or livelihood or
relationships damaged or endangered by playing a few audio games, are
they? After all we aren't charging anyone to pick up a Braile flyer or
audio CD. Do print if ya want but that to me defeats the purpose of
reaching erm targeting the very community who could benefit or might
take interest. By no means should it be sloppy but it shouldn't be
overly complicated and costly either. Remember, we have only a small
number of devs and they aren't making mad profits with a small
fraction of the blind population. Which is why I didn't include movie
trailers since that doesn't make or break the deal for me. If I wanna
play a game or have the possibility of doing so I will whether or not
an audio example or walkthrough is offered. Lastly I agree
wholeheartedly about the synth though if it were Volcalizer or
Eloquence it would be tolerable. Thanks Dark for taking this and
getting started. Thanks all for your input and if you prefer I'll
crawl back under my given rock.

You're seeing a whole lot of discussion and no action for two reasons:

 1. Initial discussions such as these prevent fragmented action, which
would be a waste of time and effort, especially for a project that
 relies on voluntary effort.

 2. The discussion keeps getting derailed by people extolling the
virtues of this format and griping against the inclusion of that
format. It serves no purpose for anybody of course, but it'll carry on
regardless, because people are apparently unwilling to accept well
written explanations and practical examples of why what they're
 preaching about serves no purpose.

On the audio CD front, even supposing you could inspire a few folks
into narrating it, putting together game trailers to make it an
engaging listen etc (which your last post was pretty far from doing),
production is a big hurdle. Unlike printers, home burners are slow and
notoriously dodgy. Beyond the burning and testing of each disk,
there's packaging, labeling, and more expensive shipping to consider.
The only solution I can vouch for is getting a pressing plant doing
the leg work, the price of which depends on the numbers of disks
you're pressing. In a nutshell, it's expensive for small runs, but the
more you press the cheaper it gets per unit until eventually it breaks
about even with the cost of doing it at home minus all the hassle.
But, much as I think audio is the ideal format to get people inspired
to play audio games, it's more work to produce and more expensive to
distribute as hard copy, so I'd say it's a flawed idea to start with
that. It's too early to tell whether this will happen or not, but if
the discussion actually comes to something being circulated in written
form and the community does start to grow as a result, I'd gladly put
some hours into an audio version of the info and lean on a few
pressing plants where I'm a repeat customer to get the price as low as
possible to spread the word in the UK. Other people would need to
handle other locations. There'd need to be actual distribution
channels in place and evidence that the community is growing for me to
go at it for free though. Should think most other people who make
money from working with audio would hold out for similar, but who
knows, maybe there's someone with skills and enthusiasm out there who
doesn't pay their rent with this stuff.

your average laser printer costs around 300-400 bucks and 400 will give

I have one that cost around that much with full network functions and

Heck if this works I will get one.
One thing I have been interested in is a braille display of some tipe and

Ever since I started using a computer in 1995 I gradually stopped typing

with the old clunky and heavy braille units.
aparently from a friend in the industry they are starting with the
electronic units with simple functions and graduating to full computers.
However I find it faster on a querty I just wish I could read braille on

Even though you can get some cheap units for 2000 dollars I wouldn't use

 Hi Shaun,

Interesting. It is my understanding that Windows Vista and above no
longer support parallel ports, and here in the USA I have not seen a
desktop or laptop PC with a parallel port in quite some time. At least
not for the last 8 years or so.

I have three laptops and none of them have parallel ports. I have an
 Averitech 6240 from 2006, a Compaq Presario from 2008, and a Toshiba
Satellite from 2011 all with USB only. No serial and no parallel
ports. I also have a Del desktop from 2010 which has two serial ports
but no parallel ports. So even if a desktop or laptop PC can be found
with a parallel port they must be few and far between because the
technology has pretty much not been in production for years at least
 according to my own experience.

An old unit though as long as you were prepaired to configure it who

There is probably something like com0com for a paralel port or something.
Though a good converter will automatically convert for you.
I am not sure about software.
Though to be honest if were meaning pamphlets for various things I'd

Audio mp3 daisy even standard cds.
You could still buy braillers to.
Finally I know for a fact that some organisations can hire out their

Dark, that is what I was thinking. Jeremy, you are right but what
would it hurt for someone to approach the orgs around convention time.
I know NFB state affiliates Braille their own stuff and Im sure ACB
does too. Maybe cost could be negotiated with them to do the
Brailling. Then, you could reach out to rehab agencies and maybe some
folks could leave a pamphlet heare and there at local libraries and
health fairs and doctor offices. Just some off the top small thinking.
Tom, exactly. Add to that the little sections at the end of the
Braille Forum, the Braille Monitor, and the Blind Bargains
classifieds. We wouldn't actually know what the cost would be until
somebody produced this pamphlet and brailled out a sample and
presented to the transcribers woud we? I don't see why it would be
such a big deal for these resellers to stick that right in the middle
of the Braille catalogs they send out or include it with audio media.
It would be like all that extra stuff you get with your bank statement
or phone bill or a Valpak coupon. Josh, I will look into this. I had a
Juliet Classic in good working order and no telling where my parents
put it. Might not even be usable anymore. So I need something and
can't afford a heavy-duty printer like Juliet and don't have sponsors
anymore. $300 would be doable over time though. Jeez, I never thought
to write on thermoform myself. You must keep your Braille for years.
Charles, I echo you. Braille Braille, Braille. Bring it back! I feel
lost even after all these years being unable to quickly right
something down or pick it up and read. Now I lose a lot of info with
computers constantly being purposefully fried! Folks just don't
understand. Nothing against the folks who love their newfound freedom
with modern tech but I feel like they are at war with me personally.
Well, folks since I keep having to make unnecessary repair, I'm never
gling to ketch up! That should be obvious though.

 Hi Charles,

Interesting you brought the subject up of preference for braille over
electronic formats because it is one I think directly needs addressed.
Main reason I feel it needs to be addressed is we have something of a
generational gap here in this country and perhaps around the world.

There are undoubtedly older blind people who grew up on braille, were
taught to use it for anything and everything, and have a personal
preference for braille materials when and where possible. Now, we have
many younger blind people, particularly millennials, who favor
technology over braille. Some will outright state braille is no longer
relevant, and have abysmal to little braille literacy because they
spend their day using their iPhone, iPad, PC or some other gadget
which has replaced the use of braille in his or her life.

In short, if someone were to go move forward with this informational
campaign it might be better to offer more than one method of
distribution or format. I can clearly see there are valid arguments
for braille and also just as equally valid arguments for something
else electronic. Not to mention we haven't even talked about large
print which is necessary for those with low vision problems who don't
read braille but do need large print etc.

 Cheers!

If you are not braille literate due to a lack of its importance in your
life, and you rely on your audio speech technology, you can use a search
engine or Email, and are not a member of the target audience, either.

That leaves those who get their information through the use of braille,

who are not aware of the existence of computer games designed for blind
people. They may not even have a computer, and the gaming might be what
gets them interested. The braille readers who may be cut off from the

Maybe other methods of pamphlet distribution can be available at
 conventions

or other gathering events where there will be a lot of blind and
 visually
impaired people, but I think that braille should be the main media
 format.

In short, if someone were to go
