Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Train sims

Hi Shaun,

You are right to a point. Part of the attraction to train simulators
like Microsoft Train Simulator is the visual graphics. As you drive
your train you can get side views of houses, farms, forests, etc as
you pass them. We can sort of get this feeling by having the sound of
forests, farms, etc as we pass them but its just not the same as
looking at them.

The other attraction is that you can select the type of train you want
to drive. Everything from classic steam engines, to diesel engines,
and I believe some electric engines as well. That means that depending
on the type of engine you decided to select it can get pretty involved
in driving the train.

If you selected, for example, a steam engine you have to be careful
how much coal you transfer from the coal tender into the engine. if
you get the fires too hot the boilers will get too hot and explode. If
you don'tkeep the boiler hot enough your engine won't move fast enough
to make deliveries on time. You have to keep your eye on the pressure
gages to make sure you have a full head of steam to keep the engine
running, but not enough steam to cause the boilers to explode. Besides
that you need to break properly slow during curves, speed up on the
straight aways, and that's not easy because you need to have a good
idea when to start slowing the train before you reach the curve or
you'll wreck and so on. Let's just say its anything but simple driving
a classic steam engine.

I'm pretty sure a train simulator could be made accessible, but I
don't know how much we'd get out of it because as I said earlier a lot
of the attraction for sighted players is the visual graphics. I
suppose some blind train enthusiasts might still like it, but I don't
know if anyone else would. I think I might like such a game since I
like old trains, and having a game driving a train during the old West
would be kind of cool.

Cheers!

The group died after a couple years stagnation.
I backed up all the archive I think but who knows if I have it?
It did almost the same as spoorsim did, and was really not that

A lot of stuff was started but never completed to a satisfactory level.
THere were a few soundpacks for lonewolf and trek but since locutis

there is not much point of them bar a few differences to each pack.
I have a feeling I don't have this anymore I know that several sites
of dubious nature in amongst their dubious and alegal contents may
have a coppy of the game but to be honest all actual work stopped for
ages due to constraints on the devs, so who knows.
I don't know if I would like a trainsim, there would have to be more
to it than just driving them round.
its mostly a visual game, my friend with ms train sim says he can mod
the engines, etc and drive them round tracks.
Also do different views, crash the trains, race the trains, etc.
Racing games are not in my forte unless they actually have the content.

The .ini track loading system is working now. Nothing is set in stone
 so
this might be different later. At the moment ctrl+o will pop up the
 list
box of tracks that are found in the tracks folder that can be
 selected.
when on a track doing stuff, ctrl+s will save the current state of
 things
so that one can close the train and then run the program again and
 find
they're right where they were doing exactly what they were doing when
 they

hit ctrl+s. So you can be going 85 miles per hour and press ctrl+s,
 close

the train, open it again and you're going 85 miles per hour, traveling
right where you were when you saved. Orriginally, it saved when you
 closed

the train but it looks like not everyone is going to want it to work
 that

way so at the moment saving is an option. the info is saved in an .ini
file called train.ini. that file can be deleted to cause the train to
 pop
up the dialogue as soon as you open the train for you to select a
 track.

This should allow us to just delete th
at .ini file when we distribute and everyone who tries it out will get
 generic behavior.

harun mentioned the speed limit system we were thinking about.
 Basically
you use two objects that are pretty much just going to be signs. One
 will
set the speed limit and the other will remove it so you can get up a
 good

 head of steam again.

When pulling up to a station it's hard, both in reality and in this
simulator to stop when you want to. You'll pass the station or stop
 too

soon, or find you're about a quarter of a mile from it but going too
slowly to be there any time inside of a decade. You get old waiting on
 it

and speed things up a bit, only to go zooming past the station before
you're aware of the fact. So we put in a beep that only plays if
 you're

moving under 5 miles per hour. The beep indicates when you're within
0.0001 miles of what ever object you happen to be that close to. for a
station this allows you to stop pretty darned close to where you
 want.
You listen for that beep. You hear it and you hold down the letter k
 until

the train comes to a hault. the beep only plays if you're moving and
 at a
rate of under 5 miles per hour. So if you're zooming along you don't
 have

to worry about that beep getting in the way of sound effects.

Sorry if you guys get this twice.
The .ini track loading system is in, but is still broken a bit and
 needs

some serious work to get it to actually work like it's supposed to. It
would appear, at least for now, that using .ini files doesn't slow the
main loop down enough to bother with. this is good. At the moment we
 have

an every day list box that popps up when you go to pick a track. The
tracks are listed in there and the file extention is on the end, ini.
Don't know if we should remove the extention from the list or not. You
select the track you want and then tab to the ok button and press
 that.

Right now all of the game except that is self voicing, though we
considered using the API for the screen reader if a compatible one
happened to be running to speak stuff instead of SAPI. We aren't using
 any

key commands yet that a screen reader could conflict with, but when
 key

echo is on it's kind of bothersome as you hold down a button, like the
letter i, to accelerate and the screen reader keeps saying the letter
 over

and over again. I know a way to make the track select list box speak
 with

SAPI if necessary. Don't know if the ok button could be spoken or not.
We're using all SAPI for now and probably going to keep using a
synthesizer of some sort since things are going to be so generic. When
 we
have object names and such loading from a .ini file that anyone can
 create

with any name they can think of, audio voiceovers won't work for
 reading
names of those objects and all that good stuff. I wouldn't mind using
 the

dll version of ESpeak to tell the trooth. Right

If you like those massively multiplayer online shooting games then get an

is the 2009 version. I remember when EA made the baseball game I still have
the instructions some ware. Do you set it up the same way? Any help would be

Subject: [Audyssey] FSX accessible

Hi All,
I'm happy to announce that after some tinkering and fiddling on my part,
Microsoft Flight
Simulator x is accessible to us. It isn't as seemless as FS9 was, but we
can fly and do
all of the important things easily enough. More over, this has the happy
consequence of future proofing
our technology: many people aren't making addons for FS9 anymore. The
combination of Itsyourplane,
FSX and now a new program called Vox ATC is quite compelling indeed. If
you buy an AI
package such as MyTraffic, this combination is about as close to real
world flying as we can come at the moment.
I should say here that the menus in FSX are not readable. Fortunately for
us, we really don't need
them much: the few items we're likely to be concerned about are easily
reached via shortcut keys.
I'm not sure how many people are interested in the Microsoft flight
simulator around here, but thought I
should pass along the word of what I've been up to lately in case anybody
is. I'll be glad

to answer any questions I can from you guys.
All the best, and happy flying,
Zack.

Hi Shaun,
Umm...Racing trains in MS Train Simulator? I don't think so. As far as I
know you can't race trains in Train Simulator. It is very much like a
train version of MS Flight Simulator in that it models driving real
trains.
For example, first you are given a list of trains to choose from. You can
choose from a diesel, electric, or steam train. Then, you can select the
continent and route to drive. I don't know what the current MS Train
Simulator has but I remember you could pick routes in the U.K., U.S., and
Japan. Probably others as well.
Each train handles completely differently. For example, if you chose a
steam train you would have to figure how much coal you need to keep in the
fire box at any given time. Too much coal and you will smother the fire.
Too little coal and the fire will not get hot enough to boil the water in
the boiler. Of course you can have the computer handle the job as fireman,
but the computer isn't designed to manage the fire box with maximum
efficiency in mind. Therefore if you let the computer handle the job as
fireman you might not get top speed out of your train.
Then, each train has different gages and breaks unique to that train. Some
use the old steam and vacuum breaks and the newer trains use air breaks.
On a steam train you have steam and water gages to keep track of where a
diesel has fuel, speed, etc. As a result you need to practice a bit with
each kind of train to learn how to drive them correctly.
Anyway, what I am getting at is I have never heard of racing trains in
Train Simulator. I do know that it is a rather sophisticated train
simulation, and from what I've heard and seen of it the game is totally
mag for train enthusiasts.

shaun everiss wrote:

Sounds quite fun.
hmm what about train races.
In ms train sim you can modify your train and you can race it I think

Good news. I've done some poking around an I've found an open-source Train
Sim.
It's called Open BVE. The main menu is the most accessible of the Train
Sims I've tried.
Here's my rundown. Keep in mind this is days old in my head, so it hasn't
been fleshed out much.

OpenBVE: Main Menu partially accessible. There's a radio button with
Start new game, Review last game, Controls, and Options that I
can't get to with NVDA.

MSTS (Microsoft Train Simulator): Main menu not accessible.
Railworks: Main menu not accessible.
Trainz 2009: Main menu not accessible.

Download site:
http://openbve.trainsimcentral.co.uk/common/openbve_stable.zip

Dependencies:
http://openbve.trainsimcentral.co.uk/use/download_windows.html
-Follow this! Took me a few hours of tinkering to finally get it to work.
Maybe I can ZIP a working copy for others.

Youtube vid with audio:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLhUXfKGt-Y
-Sounds quite good for freeware!

Since OpenBVE is open-source, we might be able to ask the developers to
add sounds to actions (brakes release, brakes applied, etc)
and indicators for variables (speed, block speed limit, next block speed,
signal status, etc etc)
I've used an old program, FS2002FA, to issue voice commands to the sim,
and it seems to work great. Increase throttle, Emergency brake, and so
on.

I'll try to make an audio demo next week after my hellish gov't final is
done.

Let's hope this can be made a reality!

Hello listers,
I managed to install IYP on my system. I registered it for the free
version. But every time it says welcome aboard please enter registeration
information and hit the submit button. What do I do from here. How can I
get it to train my voice? How do I do any thing with it.?

Hi.
thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately I can't get it to work my end
because of that stupid program feature which means as soon as it can't
verify your identity it exits.

unfortunately jfw just takes too long to reload.
so it reloads, then pritty much instantly IYP errors and exits.

is anyone actually talking to robert about how to resolve the navigation
issues?
as I still haven't received a response to my last message where I tried to
explain the issues I was experiencing to him.

well that's up to you, apparently some jaws users don't eexperience
problems with jaws once they load 2004, but sevral of us have.
there is no harm in killing full screen mode as I guess it will reduce the
amount of graphics work your computer has to do.
if you still have the procedure i gave a few days ago for killing full
screen mode just follow that and you can't go wrong. also don't forget to
delete that dll, I believe that's something all jaws users have to do.
killing full screen mode will certainly do no harm and guess if you kill
it you won't have to find out the hard way it screws your jaws up.

Subject: [Audyssey] thoughts on permanant home for bpp audio

Hi list.
I am writing to get peoples thoughts on hosting the audio for the blind
pilots project.

I have just finished downloading all the reuploaded files.
Now a few days ago I offered to host all the audio for the bpp on my
permanant send space max account, to avoid having to reupload files. this
offer still stands.

I will also host new files as and when they become available.
however I have downloaded all the files, and I was wondering do we really
need a lot of the older files particularly ones that relate to fs2002,
manual take offs and manual landings.
the reason I say this is because now that we have established fs2004
seems to be the way to go, and we also have IYP I think a new comer to
all these files could very easily get confused.
so my suggestion is to discard all the files that are not IYP related and
also the ones that are fs2002 related so that it is clear what a new
comer to the bpp should be listening to.
of course I am only going to be the maintainer, so if the community feels
that these older files should be hosted I will of course do so, but I
really feel for the sake of clarity fs2002 files and anything that is not
to do with IYP should go.
what do people think? once I have had peoples thoughts I will then upload
them into a folder on my send space max account accordingly and then post
a link to be placed on the blog.
I think an entry on the blog should be posted for those who's jaws is
being messed up when they load fs2004 so they no how to fix it.
the solution I outlined a few days ago should be followed even once you
have got rid of the dll if your jaws is still breaking when you load
fs2004.

Subject: [Audyssey] thoughts on permanant home for bpp audio

Hi list.
I am writing to get peoples thoughts on hosting the audio for the
blind

pilots project.
I have just finished downloading all the reuploaded files.
Now a few days ago I offered to host all the audio for the bpp on my
permanant send space max account, to avoid having to reupload files.
this

offer still stands.
I will also host new files as and when they become available.
however I have downloaded all the files, and I was wondering do we
really

need a lot of the older files particularly ones that relate to fs2002,
manual take offs and manual landings.
the reason I say this is because now that we have established fs2004
seems to be the way to go, and we also have IYP I think a new comer to
all these files could very easily get confused.
so my suggestion is to discard all the files that are not IYP related
and

also the ones that are fs2002 related so that it is clear what a new
comer to the bpp should be listening to.
of course I am only going to be the maintainer, so if the community
feels

that these older files should be hosted I will of course do so, but I
really feel for the sake of clarity fs2002 files and anything that is
not

to do with IYP should go.
what do people think? once I have had peoples thoughts I will then
upload

them into a folder on my send space max account accordingly and then
post

a link to be placed on the blog.
I think an entry on the blog should be posted for those who's jaws is
being messed up when they load fs2004 so they no how to fix it.
the solution I outlined a few days ago should be followed even once
you

have got rid of the dll if your jaws is still breaking when you load
fs2004.

Subject: [Audyssey] solution for jaws and fs2004 issues

hi list.
luckily no need to talk to fs about the jaws issues and fs2004.

lol perhaps jaws should be renamed so it stands for jobless access with
speech.

anyway, on to my solution.

I have checked this by doing several restarts of the simulator and jaws is
still holding up nicely.
you only need to do the following if you load fs2004 and you then find
your jaws gets completely screwed up as in you are not getting edit field
titles announced, and when you root jaws cursor to pc info is not being
read.

the only way til now to fix the jaws problems was a total pc restart.
trust me you will no if you have to follow this procedure.

perhaps this should be posted on the blind pilots project for future
reference, and maybe mentioned in a podcast.

anyway, the solution to the jaws issue is as follows
I found this when reading about other nasty issues people have with
fs2004.

you are going to have to edit the fs2004 cfg file.

Now in order to find this, you are going to need to go into your documents
and settings folder under c.
next, you are going to need to go to the account for which fs2004 is
installed, so if its administrator that account for example.

if its not there, just keep trying you will find it eventually.
when you are under that account, look for a folder called application
data.
When in there, look for the folder called microsoft, and under that the
folder called fs9.

Now you are at the location where the cfg file is located.
I would suggest before editing it in case you make a complete mess of it
you back the file up.
done that? right now open the file in notepad, just pressing enter on it
should work.

now hears what you need to look for
you should be able to find a line called
FULL_SCREEN=1
you need to change that value of 1 to 0
so the line should look like this
FULL_SCREEN=0

then save it and close the file.
changing that value tells fs2004 to start in window mode not full screen
mode.
I have no idea why it fixed my issue, seeing as the jaws problems
continued even after fs2004 was unloaded, but from what I read on the net
doing this has helped a lot of people out, and it seems to have solved my
problems.

Let me know if this helps anyone else out.

OK update now. I reinstalled the fsx on my vista machine. It is different
and requires at times to use the mouse key to find things but it works

There is no lag and to exit the game you have to hit alt f4. It is not

hard to figure out for the most part I think it is going to work great. I
will try more and report more later on today or tomorrow However who ever

Hi,
Yeah, I've heard FS X is a massive system resource hog. They have beafed
up all of the graphics, improved the internal cockpit views, etc and as a
result it requires a huge amount of memory and processor power to even
run the thing. As with Windows Vista what Microsoft says on the box and
what you actually need to run it is a joke.
Still I've been rather interested in trying the Shuttle Flight Simulator
for FS X. I think that would be frickin' awesome. I've always dreamed
about flying the space shuttle.

I beg to differ.
I found the Captain Sim – Space Shuttle Expansion for
MS FSX and FS2004
Note they call fs2004 FS9
   * - Due to FS9 altitude limitations (99K ft) FS9 version has the
following limitations:

- 99K ft altitude limit
- No Entry phase flight
- TAEM flight start at lower altitude on HAC.
FS9 version costs less than FSX.

Six Orbiters (FS9)

Hi Thomas and others,
I beg to differ.
I found the Captain Sim – Space Shuttle Expansion for
MS FSX and FS2004
Note they call fs2004 FS9
   * - Due to FS9 altitude limitations (99K ft) FS9 version has the
following limitations:
- 99K ft altitude limit
- No Entry phase flight
- TAEM flight start at lower altitude on HAC.
FS9 version costs less than FSX.

But about the FS9 name, if you look under program files in FS 2004, it
calls it flight simulator 9.
So yes, if you see FS9, think FS 2004.

Hello Thomas,
Unfortunetly, FSX will not work with jaws. I’ve heard that it takes a
lot to get it to run on any computer. You need a screaming processor.
Anyway, beyond that, I saw a request for a link the the BCT chat room.
To find the page where you can enter the room, click the following
link.

You can also download the tiny plugin you will need there.
We look forward to seeing you all there!
Once again, that’s tomorrow night at 6 PM pacific, 9 PM eastern, 1 UTC

See you there!

Hello fellow gamers,
I am pleased to announce that after about 7 months of hard effort,
Aaron Hoffman, John Sanders, and I have found a way to make Microsoft
flight simulator 2002 fully accessable to the blind.
Thanks to Scott Shade for giving us the idea and getting us in to
simming and for letting us know that this could be done! We are going
to do a podcast to demonstrate how flight simulator can be used. But
we were thinking of doing it live in a room powered by the TC
conference softwear.
We would use the BCT chat room because it doesn’t get much traffic,
but I don’t know if the owner would be ok with that. Any ideas?
So basicly what we would do is do a live podcast and then take
questions after our demo, but we’d also record it and put it up for
download as an mp3.
So for those who have always wanted to get using Microsoft flight
simulator, you’ll be able to.
We have been able to make the program accessable, as well as the
online network vatsim.
All this and more will be explained in the podcast; also your
questions will be taken. We’re still trying to work out a date to do
this podcast, as it will take a while to demo everything and our lives
are fairly busy. But it will happen soon and I will announce on this
list when we’ll be having it just as soon as we find a time that works
for the 3 of us.
If you have any questions, ideas, comments, please write back to this
or contact me off-list or on skype.
My email address is nick.he...@gmail.com
My skype name is Nickster919.

Thanks,
Nick

you can't exactly get fs2002 in the shops.
you need to buy it on ebay or download it from a torrent.
I wish that versions over 2002 are accessible.

We would use the BCT chat room because it doesn't get much traffic,
but I don't know if the owner would be ok with that. Any ideas?
So basicly what we would do is do a live podcast and then take
questions after our demo, but we'd also record it and put it up for
download as an mp3.
So for those who have always wanted to get using Microsoft flight
simulator, you'll be able to.
We have been able to make the program accessable, as well as the
online network vatsim.
All this and more will be explained in the podcast; also your
questions will be taken. We're still trying to work out a date to do
this podcast, as it will take a while to demo everything and our lives
are fairly busy. But it will happen soon and I will announce on this
list when we'll be having it just as soon as we find a time that works
for the 3 of us.
If you have any questions, ideas, comments, please write back to this
or contact me off-list or on skype.

Hi,
At BPC we're currently working on a dogfighting flight simulation. While
it's not intended to act as a replacement for Microsoft Flight Simulator
(your goal is not to fly bigger and bigger planes, but rather to complete
a

task--like Top Gun, or Soviet Strike) it may be what you're looking for.
http://www.bpcprograms.com/. Another flight game is Jim Kitchen's Puppy1
game. In this one, your goal is to shoot down an oncoming aircraft before
it

fires at you and kills you. http://www.kitchensinc.net/. Puppy1 can be
played with a joystick, so there's an added advantage there.
Hope this helps,
Munawar

all, Yesterday, while attempting to find updates on this project
since the blind second life blog doesn't seem to be updating anymore
with this new-found info, I'll say it below. Luise Later, an SL
real life visually impaired (Not totally blind) user created both a
cane and a guide dog, scripted, mind you, to alert us of portals etc
when navigating. I don't know what the difference between the cane or
guide dog are, or weather you need both of them, but regardless the
items are free. She also uses a SL screen reader (Well I think it's
being made into one) called EVA, which speaks objects around you. Don't
ask me how that works. I just created my SL account from Virtual
Ability which, BTW, makes the account sign up for second life as
accessible as filling out a form. An accessible form, that is. Oh, did
I mention audio captcha? And since I'm also sending this out to
Mac lists, I'll just say this. I haven't tried the SL client yet with
VoiceOver. Thus, I have yet to find out if you can even interact with
anything for even just logging in. I guess logging into SL is
accessible on the windows side. I'll be trying this all out tomorrow,
asuming I don't have any homework. And before I forget, the cane/dog
development team does have one totally blind developer, so it's not
just VI working on the project. Sure, it's only one, but at least he's
giving feedback to the project for totally blind users. The
reason why we can't use it on Mac is just one problem, even if you can
login with VO. Eva. Eva is for windows only. Without that, we can't
communicate and hear what's around us. Okay. Well, here is the blog
posting on the promotion of Luise's presentation on this which we all
 mist.
 http://tentacolor.com/2008/08/30/the-scripted-leading-the-blind Hope
to see all you guys who like testing an incompleted product to come
join me. I'd hate to do this alone with the team. Or, at least, I think

Hi, FS 2002 is flight simulator 2002 made by Microsoft.
If you want to purchase this game, try one of the following web sites.

Then click on the games universe link.
Or, go to amazon.com web site and then search for flight simulator 2002.
 I hope this helps you.

Subject: [Audyssey] Second Life accessibility Updates

 Hi all,

Yesterday, while attempting to find updates on this project since the
blind second life blog doesn't seem to be updating anymore with this
new-found info, I'll say it below.

Luise Later, an SL real life visually impaired (Not totally blind)
user created both a cane and a guide dog, scripted, mind you, to alert
us of portals etc when navigating. I don't know what the difference
between the cane or guide dog are, or weather you need both of them,
but regardless the items are free.

She also uses a SL screen reader (Well I think it's being made into
one) called EVA, which speaks objects around you. Don't ask me how
that works. I just created my SL account from Virtual Ability which,
BTW, makes the account sign up for second life as accessible as
filling out a form. An accessible form, that is. Oh, did I mention
 audio captcha?

And since I'm also sending this out to Mac lists, I'll just say this.
I haven't tried the SL client yet with VoiceOver. Thus, I have yet to
find out if you can even interact with anything for even just logging
in. I guess logging into SL is accessible on the windows side. I'll be
trying this all out tomorrow, asuming I don't have any homework. And
before I forget, the cane/dog development team does have one totally
blind developer, so it's not just VI working on the project. Sure,
it's only one, but at least he's giving feedback to the project for
 totally blind users.

The reason why we can't use it on Mac is just one problem, even if you
can login with VO. Eva. Eva is for windows only. Without that, we
can't communicate and hear what's around us.

Okay. Well, here is the blog posting on the promotion of Luise's
presentation on this which we all mist.

 http://tentacolor.com/2008/08/30/the-scripted-leading-the-blind

Hope to see all you guys who like testing an incompleted product to
come join me. I'd hate to do this alone with the team. Or, at least, I
think I'd be the only one...

 Hey all,
I'm always checking online sites for the latest mk news, but I figure
 not
everyone does the same. So some of you are probably not aware that the
entire roster for MK vs dc has been revealed. There will be 22 playable
characters in the game, 11 from each side. here they are:
 mk side:
 Scorpion
 Sub-Zero
 Sonya
 Jax
 Shang Tsung
 Liu Kang
 Raiden
 Kitana
 Kano
 Baraka
 Shao Kahn

 DC:
 Batman
 Superman
 Catwoman
 Green Lantern
 The Joker
 Shazam
 The Flash
 Wonder Woman
 Deathstroke
 Lex Luthor
 Darkseid
Whatcha guys think? I personally can't wait to play with some of the dc
characters. Flash? joker? it should be really fun!

 Hi,
Well, there is Jedi Quake maintained by Cara Quinn. It is basically
quake with a Star Wars type theme to it.
As for any outright Star Wars games for the blind there aren't any. I
was working on one called Jedi Strike, but when I attempted to license
the Star Wars copyrights via Lucas Licensing they flatly refused.
Besides being very expensive Lucas Licensing only deals with one company
at a time. For example, since Lucas Arts holds the exclusive copyright
for Star Wars vidio games my company USA Games can't license the
copyright, because Lucas Licensing says it would be a conflict of
interest. I would be competing with their games, and never mind the fact
my games for the blind wouldn't even scratch their markets. Besides
witch the couple thousand I would earn off of making said Star wars
games wouldn't even pay for the royalties they wanted to legally license
 the Star Wars copyrights.
Bottom line, what I learned is clearly Lucas Licensing has nothing in
place for small time developers wanting to create a game using a Star
Wars theme. It is clear all of their dealings are with companies with
millions of dollars to spend, and thus will pay millions to Lucas in
royalties. A guy expecting to make a few thousand isn't even worth their
time of day unless I use their copyrights illegally, and then they can
sue me for copyright infringement. It is a lose lose situation, and
Lucas Licensing is a bunch of jerks if you ask me.
I have thought about releasing the game as freeware under the creative
commons license, but even that is no absolute protection. That may give
them less of a reasont to sue, but they still can come after me with a
cease and desist order that the courts would uphold stating I have to
remove the content and destroy all source code, all known copies, etc.
I'm not sure it is worth the trouble for a blind developer to risk that
 or not.

Not quite sure what you mean by war games, but have you tried GMA Tank
 Commander from

 www.gmagames.com

It's a World War tank simulation. You make your way through 6 missions
pitting your skill and wits against numerous enemy tanks and other
 weaponry.
 And, welcome to the list.

Also, command a World War 2 submarine through many missions from the same
web site as you play Lone Wolf. You can even create, and share, missions
you create. Even if these are not the sort of war games you're looking
 for,
 they're loads of fun. HTH

 Hello listers,
My name is Michael. I was wondering if there are any accessible war
 games
that you can play against the computer? Or any online games that are
 easy
 to play Thanks
 Michael.

 Hi,

There are a few here, one being malk 1 by jim kitchen at:
 http://www.kitchensinc.com

 The other is top speed:
 http://www.playinginthedark.com

Top speed 2.1 is coming soon, by the way.

And both of these games are free.

Heres a bit of a description of each:

Malk 1 involves choosing a track and trying to race against a few other
cars, seeing if you can get the best laps. TOp speed is where you can
 choose
the mode (quick race, single, time trial, street adventure- if your
 daring,
there a bit harder tracks in there- and of course, online, where Kitchens
inc top speed shines; you can play against your friends with top speed. In
top speed 2.0, you can also build your own cars.

 Hope that helps some

 Hi Michael,
If you are into war games and real time strategy type stuff I can think
of three or four games that might be up your alley. The first is a
couple of good games by GMA Games. GMA produces a real time submarine
simulation named Lonewolf. They also produce a real time tank simulation
named GMA Tank Commander. Both can be purchased from GMA at:
 http://www.gmagames.com
or if you are short on cash you can try the demo versions at least.
Another war game I personally like is SoundRTS. It is a real time
strategy game something like Warcraft. You start out with a handful of
peasants and the goal of the game is to create an army of knights,
footmen, mages, etc. You can build structures like castles, keeps,
workshops, etc. SoundRTS offers a one on one mode against the computer,
or you can join a battle online and play real time against friends. To
 download the beta visit:
 http://jlpo.free.fr/soundrts/
 Cheers.

 Hi,
FYI, they aare around $30 to $35 USD, and the web site is

 constantine (on laptop) wrote:
 Hi,

Try GMA tank commander or loan wolf. Both of these can be purchased,
 they're
about 20 bucks; http://www.gmagames.net, I think. Loan wolf is a
 submarine
type game where your fighting against other submarines using torpeedos
 and
what not, and GMA tank commander is where you can fight other tanks- in
realtime, of course- and there is also a free game called Sound RTS,
 similar
to WoW, I think, though I haven't tried it myself; I think the URL is
soundrts.net. I do believe, too, that this here sound RTS uses the same
voice as NVDA does- and I have to say, its not a bad voice.

But, then again, could be just me.
