Re: [Audyssey] AD and D muds?
You might try Materia Magica. It's not directly based on ADD, because like Dennis said, those rules don't make for a great computer game. But we have the familiar fantasy settings of dragons and magic, warriors and quests. I'll don't know if Materia Magica will be sufficiently different from Alter Aeon to suit your mood, but it might be worth a try. Re: [Audyssey] AD and D muds?
Hi. mm imho is very ifferent from Alter, in the classes and how they work and especially in the great wilderness system. I initially was not keen on the game sinse for someone who loves completing quests and tasks, it was a little irritating that marks were so easy to level past, and quests were all timed and usually based on finding random places on a huge map meaning I spent most of my time running around looking or them, but I have heard both of these got a revamp recently. I need to really give the game another serious go. All the best, Dark. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Hi, was wondering if anyone knows of some muds that follow the dungeons and dragons rules? Re: [Audyssey] AD and D muds?
ADD is a really bad game design for something like a mud. It works when you use it at the glacial pace of a pen and paper setting, but it only works well if you have a good DM to go with it. In a high speed, real time scenario under computer control, the rules just aren't going to work well. I know there are a few games that claim to use DD rules, but it's invariably with a ton of tweaks to make the game playable. Re: [Audyssey] AD and D muds?
Even for tabletop games (sometimes disconcertingly called pen and paper games), the standard DD stats don't always work out unless you've got a gm who is willing to play with the rules a little and ignore some of the excesses of the system, rather than just play by numbers, indeed if your going to play by numbers here isn't a point having a human gm at all, sinse the point of a human is the actual role playing as much as the playing at rolling dice :D.
