Re: [Audyssey] question about william lomas.

2014-09-21 Thread shaun everiss

Ofcause I know its not legal to pirate games.
I meant no idsrespect here.
some of the games mentioned have gone through so
many revisions, montisumers return is quite old,
I never said that piracy was legal at all.
I do understand where you are coming from with
shades of doom, however even so.
Even if there is a lagit hacker going out there
point is even though there are laws against it a
lot of alegal activity goes on on torrent sites.
Again I am not saying anything against torrent
sites but the fact a user was on one of them
searching for something is itself something of a concern.
I know a lot of people have setup files of this
and that, I see requests for this on the forums.
The fact ishen was on a torrent site where
pirated stuff is out there is another question that should be asked.
Since the laws in my country against piracy,
torrents though themselves not alegal are not a safe place to go anymore.

and I have no idea what to think at this point.

Hi Shaun,

I personally find your attitude extremely distasteful. Since when does
age make it okay to crack or pirate something?

First,of all, yes Shades of Doom 1.x is old, but that does not make it
old junk. Age has absolutely nothing to do with the quality or value
of a product. As a matter of fact Shades of Doom still remains one of
the better audio games out there, and for various reasons I still
prefer the original over the new 2.0 version. So regardless of age
that doesn't mean the original version is old junk.

Moreover how old does something have to be before piracy becomes
legal? One day, one week, one month, one year, ten years?

Fact of the matter is none of the above. Piracy is illegal no matter
how old the product is, and a copyright holder has a right to any and
all income from said product for a minimum of 50 years in most
countries and possibly longer if he or she renews the copyrights
frequently. Therefore just because Shades of Doom is going on fourteen
years or so doesn't mean it is old junk and a punk can now legally
crack it if he or she wants to.

As a list moderator I'm telling you to stop spouting of garbage like
that below or I will whole heartedly boot you from the list. I'm
really getting sick of your crap, and its time either you straighten
up or hit the road. Consider yourself warned.

Hi Shaun,

You are obviously misinformed. I'm not sure what you mean by nothing
to crack since Montezuma's Return, the game in question, had a name
and key registration system that can be easily cracked given a
matching name and key. I didn't use a very strong security system on
that game as I didn't have the time to develop a better one, but all
the same it had a registration system and can be cracked. So saying
there is nothing to crack is a bit misleading.

SighYes, Montezuma's Return is old, but as I said in a prior

The only reason I myself am not worried about it is because the game

Re: [Audyssey] Question about William Lomas

2014-09-20 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Ishan,

First of all, the contact information for USA Games is or was in the
User's Guide for the game so claiming you didn't know how to contact
the developer sounds bogus to me. If you know how to grab files from a
torrent like The Pirate Bay then it stands to reason you knew how to
operate e-mail. I'm not going to give you a hard time over this
because frankly I have more important things to deal with right now,
but I don't buy your excuse.

Cheers!

2014-09-20 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Steven,

Actually, I have said more, but you probably have not read or gotten
those e-mails on the subject. In any case it looks to me like Ishan
got Montezuma's Return off a torrent site like The Pirate Bay as he
has referenced it twice in this thread that I know of. I've checked
and yes cracks are out there if one knows where to look, but as I have
said before I have more important things to do than worry about a
crack for a game I no longer intend to sell or support.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] question about william lomas.

2014-09-19 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Ishan,

To be honest how Michael knows William Lomas is actually irrelevant.
Its obvious that William Lomas gave his key out to people somewhere
along the way and Michael Batin and others have it and use it to crack
the game. However, as I am no longer selling that game, can not profit
from it, I'm not too overly concerned here about the cracks floating
around.

I appreciate the attempt to report this but there is a standard
procedure for things like this, and you should generally contact the
company or developer directly rather than calling attention to the
cracking on a list like Audyssey. Not only can that Sturm up bad
feelings between list members you will in all likely hood end up being
labeled a tattle tale or worse by people involved in the piracy. So
its generally a good idea to handle situations like this privately off
list rather than publicly.

Cheers!

Hi Shaun,

You are obviously misinformed. I'm not sure what you mean by nothing
to crack since Montezuma's Return, the game in question, had a name
and key registration system that can be easily cracked given a

the same it had a registration system and can be cracked. So saying

Hi Ishan,

Well, if you know him to be passing around cracks for Shades of Doom
then the proper thing to do is to contact GMA Games directly. Talking
about it here on Audyssey may indirectly get back to David Greenwood,

directed your way by exposing these people on list. As I said in my

I would let the developer of the game being cracked know about who is doing
it, tell nobody that I have done so, and let the cracker get what they
deserve. Don't let people know who the taddle tale was. Hopefully, the
cracker gets nailed.

I'm not sure what you mean by nothing
to crack since Montezuma's Return, the game in question, had a name
and key registration system that can be easily cracked given a
matching name and key. I didn't use a very strong security system on
that game as I didn't have the time to develop a better one, but all
the same it had a registration system and can be cracked. So saying
there is nothing to crack is a bit misleading.

Re: [Audyssey] question about william lomas.

2014-09-18 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Ishan,

While I don't know William Lomas personally I have seen him on this
and other lists over the years. That said, before you accuse him of
cracking Montezuma's Return are you sure he is cracking the game?

I know a number of people legally purchased that game back in 2008,
when it was on sale, and got legitimate product keys. I'd have to go
back through my records, something I don't have time for at this
second, to see if William Lomas purchased a valid product key, but
even if he didn't Montezuma's Return is effectively abandonware
anyway. So I'm not concerned about cracking at this point.

Cheers!
