Hi Lisa. have you tried any of this site's games? there are sites like this all over the internet selling games, but the problem is are their games accessible or not. Usually, downloadable pc games are purely graphical, and have no text a screen reader can read at all. There are of course a very few exceptions, like the smugglers games from niels bauer, but not many of them, in fact less these days than in the old windows 2000 days it seems. for this reason, it's not usually worth getting excited about a site selling games unless you can confirm that they are accessible, heck I know of the top of my head five sites like this one that sell really great sounding games, if you are sighted! I'd be very interested to know if you have found any games from this site accessible, and if so, what genre and style they are. Beware the grue! Not picking. Just pointing out that, and this applies to any list member who discovers something new, you should find out more info, and post that info to the list, before telling everyone about it. Think of it this way: If I send an announcement out that says, I found a cool sounding game at www.thomasward.com Check it out! You go there, only to find out that it is a game in which you have to match colored tiles to form a path to escape from a cave or a maze. If I had told you about the game in the first place, you wouldn't have wasted your time checking it out. Hi Lisa. I am not a moderator, - (well of this list anyway), but I am fairly certain there are words which tom or Damien would wish spoken on this issue. Firstly, your remarks to charles about his list contributions strike me as not exactly ones which will promote harmony on the list, charles has agreed to trim the announcements of the out of site gaming events to games only, which should be the end of the issue, not fuel for others to make snide remarks. Secondly, as regards the site, please don't think that people do not appreciate notifications about websites and games. However, a little more information is necessary, sinse simply saying this is a good site for games could've bene information you got from google, and makes no guarantee of access. There are very many game related sites around the internet, providing graphical games, which is why access has to be a considderation, and it is true that when looking at bigfish games they seem very much to be one of those large distributors of graphical games similar to 300Ad, game hippo or alawar, none of which provide any accessible games at all, indeed I've checked out several sites like that myself in the past, and found a very low proportion of accessible games at all. Thus, some idea of what games you might have tried from the site, and what you found accessible would be much appreciated, particularly sinse often those sorts of sites are distributors rather than main line developers, meaning that perhaps one company's games were! accessible, and just being sold through bigfish, but other companies with inaccessible games weren't, (I had a recent experience with a low vision accessible game from 300Ad which very much fell into this catagory, sinse while the games in that particular series by that particular dev were accessible to low vision play, many others that 300Ad sold weren't). If you could therefore perhaps let us know about some games you've tried on the site, and their accessibility that would be much appreciated, not the least because if only some! games are accessible, it'll stop most other people having to waid through a hoard of inaccessible ones. Hey all, Well, Lisa may have a point here. I'm trying to find more info on this, but http://www.vlfgames.com is a site that is trying to promote accessibility in games for everyone. In one of the posts up there, Daniel mentions that he partnered with Big Fish. Whether this partnership resulted in anything remains to be scene. I'd love to play some of these games I found here. Hmmm, I've investigated a couple of their adventure games, but i see absolutely zero access, all graphics and no readable text at all, and their other game types such as pattern matching puzzle seem inherently inaccessible. As I said, to me they just look like just another distributor of graphical, indi produced games, and therefore unlikely to be of help to us. Perhaps if Lisa, or others could let me know what games they've found accessible, it would be easier to determine things, especially sinse I'm fairly certain that Bigfish don't actually manufacture most of the games they sell, but sell games from other, smaller companies, thus meaning like nielsbauer one or other of those companies may produce an accessible game or to, but not the majority sold by the bigger distribution service. That would depend on your blindness. Some on here call console games like PS3 accessible, but for total blind it is not. Just a bunch of sounds that you have to memorize to get to the next level of sounds. Only by looking at the site for yourself can you make that judgment. Hi charlese. as I said, I believe big fish to be similar to 300Ad, game hippo, alawar or similar, ie, a distributor indi games, rather than actually a company who make games in their own right. The games I examined on the site didn't look the least accessible, or even playable, but at the same time the site has a massive set of games available and there was no way I could check all of them. So, while I find it believeable that there are probably accessible games there, I'd very much appreciate Lisa or someone else to point me in the right direction, sinse then we can all narrow our search to the specific company or series that is accessible. Hi Lisa, I think many of us appreciate the fact you gave us the link for the Big Fish website. Its just that you didn't provide enough info on what games you felt were accessible, and as has been said before that is something people really wanted to know. Just going there and looking for accessible games is time consuming and frustrating if there is a small number of games that are known to be accessible while the majority aren't. So lesson for the future if you or anyone else decides to provide the list with a link where some accessible games can be found it would be greatly appreciated if you also include a little more information on a game or games you found to be accessible.
