[Audyssey] my thoughts on second life so far

2008-09-22 Thread alex wallis
hi list.
well my thoughts on second life so far.
the account sign up was anoying but got it done eventually, why do they have to
distort audio captchas, it makes them almost impossible to understand. now i no
how sited people feel when they want to read something but have forgotten there
glasses.
but anyway, that's not a very important point.
i've got the client installed, and i have installed eva.
one thing the eva devs haven't mentioned on there site but i found it because i
went and looked is there is some basic documentation in the eva program files
folder.
however, it is far from complete and doesn't say if you should start eva first
or second life.
next, on to the client.
well i can sum it up in 3 words completely unuseable without eyes initially at
any rate.
this is because the client loads, and then as far as i can tell there is no way
to navigate around or find out how to enter your login info.
oh and back to eva, the developers really haven't done us any favours, irony of
ironies, eva has to be registered. and check this out, so helpful, the
registration code is available from the second life chat history.
mmm well i thought we couldn't read it without eva? so isn't it a bit of a
chickin and egg situation?

could someone who has got it working please give us some steps to get started?
as i'm happy to put in the efort, but lets just say i'm getting a little
anoyed, especially with the eva thing, as its free, so why have the devs
implemented a registration system that isn't accessible till we get eva working.

2008-09-22 Thread Orin
Well, I don't think Eva is accessible for blind people. Or, should I
say, it wasn't meant to be. However, if you teleport to wheelies via
the link, you can get eyes to help you get the dog and cane and then I
asume you won't need no, or possibly little, sighted assistance after
that.

Also, you can login to movable life and chat there with Louise Later.
I added her as a friend, hopefully she'll accept.

Oh and also, sorry for even mentioning Eva in the first place. I
didn't know the dog made sapi speak the chat messages. I asume that's
what it does. Mike, can you give us more info since you are actually
the only one of us using it now?

2008-09-22 Thread shaun everiss
thats the reason I won't actually commit unless I can get things up.
ok if I have the links I'll download the programs and do the signup but unless
we can get this working.
Saying that I wander if someone could do a klango ap for that.
klango is accessible, and so whatever app that runs under it will do thhis to.

Re: [Audyssey] my thoughts on second life so far

2008-09-22 Thread Mike Reiser
It is no longer required to use eva for text chatting which is basically
what Max the dog does. Once you get on, either Louis, or someone will
be there and can give you the script for max the dog. After this, there
is an installation package which will install an executable on your
machine that will interface with sapi. I can't remember the url but if
you add me on skype I can get it to you. Once you are logged in, start
this max program. Your default sapi voice will prompt you for your
name, type the name which youregestered with in SL. Press enter and it
will say Your name is logged in after this in the client type /2 speak
on and press enter. At this point you won't here it say that it is
enabled but hopefully we can fix this at some point. However, it should
start reading you messages people send to you. Hope this helps,

Mike

At this point it will speak chat messages. Soon it will have the
ability to tell you your current location. There is an executable you
need to install which will interface max with sapi. Add me on skype if
you have it and I can send it, my skype name is miker1988. Thanks,

Mike
