Well I'm sorry you feel that this first effort by a developer with English
as a second language was so lacking. I really like it though. I guess for
some of us, there are different types of games which we like to play. For me
personally, I like games with straightforward interfaces, and ones which
have many keystrokes to remember are not my thing. This is why I appreciate
demos of games which we can try for free. I buy the ones I really enjoy
playing.
Thanks a lot.

I disagree. I really like the game. It is a lot of fun, and I've been

Just because a game does not have a ton of sounds does not make it fun. The
game is not supposed to have a lot of sounds. It is this closed minded
thinking by some list members that is saddly discouraging. My only
complaint is the poor US historical stuff, but the game was written by
someone who is from another country, so you have to understand that. It
would be the same result if you wrote a game about a country and it's
history if you weren't familiar with it. Instead of complaining, you should
be greatful that people like him are taking the time to write new and
interesting games.

the first version of this game startet in the late 1989. After porting

Re: [Audyssey] new computergame - Mississippi

2006-08-27 Thread ari
Hi Marco,
I'm downloading the game to try out. I don't mind if it doesn't have any
sound if it's a challenging and/or fun game which I can play with friends.
What I'd like to ask is could your company maybe sort of make a game, for
example, about ancient Europe or a country in Europe like Germany. Example,
you are a prince of an ancient city, you have to keep your knights satisfied
and fit, manage your food supplies, make agreements with other princes,
fight against other cities, something along those ideas. Another suggestion
instead is, could you somehow think of developing an accessible interface to
Freeciv, which would actually be much better. Look at
www.freeciv.org
It would be great if this interface could work on Windows and Linux. I'm
really excited about your company, since It looks to me as if their's at
last a company that is now going to focus on strategy and simulation games.
I'll write to you about my thoughts on the game, but please keep up the good
work. A lot of times, a person might not need games with large voice files
and sound if the game has good replay value, fun, and is multiplayer.

I disagree. I really like the game. It is a lot of fun, and I've been
meaning to purchase the full version of it.
Instead of complaining, you
 should
be greatful that people like him are taking the time to write new and
 interesting games.

 Hi Brandon,
Mississippie is the most borring game that I've ever played.
Oh it's a pity that you don't like our game.
It's absolutely borring, and their are no sound effects.
do you mean boring? My translator could'nt find the word borring.
You thought about backgroundsounds, but we didn't put them into this
version. Okay, it's a different class of games like troopanum, Pipe,
GTC, or whatever, but it's not a arcade or fighting game, it's a
 trading simulation.
Who's idea was it to make a game based upon early america?
 They didn't get it right.
 It was our idea!
the first version of this game startet in the late 1989. After porting
it to windows, we decided to translate it to the english language,
because many german people liked it very well. We know, that there are
some mistakes depending on the history in the game. We will diskus
those things with american people and will correct those mistakes. But
we hope they are not as terrible, that you can't play the game!
*smile* And, as Matthew said, because of different players we
 published it as a demo!

 Best regards,
 Marco

2006-08-27 Thread Liam Erven
Brandon. I certainly hope you are not tryign to start a flame war as I
don't apreciate such things. Who am I to talk? I am a gamer jus tlike
everyone else. I have gaming likes and dislikes. I am also an individual
who spends his time writing games. What people forget to realize is, the
people who write games have lives and more important things to commit to,
like college and other life commitments. I suggest you sit down and attempt
to write games, you may then apreciate what we go through on a daily basis,
and then you may understand how we feel when you take abuse from people like
you. I write games because I enjoy to write games. It is something I do
because I enjoy it. When I stop enjoying it I will stop writing them.

Thanks:
Liam

 Hi Chris and all,
  What is a kontor?
instead of kontor you can say branch or branch office.
In the game it means a part of your office in a specific town where
 you can order goods from.

Hi,

Back in 2004 there was already a German-language version of Mississippi :

Is the German version still available? And is this version very different
from the German version or is it exactly the same?

Thanks!

 Hallo to all,

I want to tell you about the newest Mardy-Production, a Computer-Game
 called Mississippi.

Mississippi is a trading simulation which starts in 1770 in the wild west
of good old America. One day you receive a letter, that your uncle who's
 living
in America has died and bequeaths you his whole properties. That means 50
square meters of stockroom, 1000 $ and 50 grain. After that you decide to
jump at this chance. You leave your old home and emigrate to the new
 world.

You have to buy and sell your goods, build kontors in several towns, build
wagons, and earn money. If you are good enough at least you will be
president of America. But, as in real live, there are good and bad news,
some for yourself, some for all players. E.g. you can win a lot of money,
 or
all your wagons could not leave your HQ and so you won't get goods for
 this
 round.

You can play the game with 5 persons. And, that's a very interesting fact,
you can play it with sighted people together.

There is much music, and most of the news are spoken. The game itself is
 not
self-voicing, so you need a screenreader to play it. We have tested it
 with
Window-Eyes and JAWS and it works properly. If not, feel free to ask, and
 we
will see what we can do in the code to solve problems.

The game is shareware, so you can test for yourself, if you will have fun
 with the game.

You can download this game here:

 Best regards
 Marco

Re: [Audyssey] new computergame - Mississippi

Hi Richard and all,
Back in 2004 there was already a German-language version of Mississippi :
 http://www.audiogames.net/db.php?action=viewid=mississippi
Is the German version still available? And is this version very different
from the German version or is it exactly the same?
In 2006 we have translated the game. So you can now decide to install
and play the german or the english version. Booth versions are the
same, we have just translated the output of the game.
Booth, the english and the german version, are in one file.
There are two links to the german and the english pages at the moment.
For the german website:
http://www.odissa.de/ODISSAspektrum/game/miss.html
and for the english website:
http://mar-dy.com/mardycom/mississippi/miss.html
The download-link now is:
http://www.mar-dy.com/programme/Mississippi_Setup.exe
The Demo-Version no longer uses low quality-Sounds, it's the same
installation file as the full version. It ends after four years and
you can only use one game in the Casino, that are the restrictions of
the demo version.
Since 2004 we made some updates and fixed several bugs in the game.

To update the audiogames-Website, is there something I can do?

Best regards
Marco

Hi Chris and all,
 What is a kontor?
instead of kontor you can say branch or branch office.
In the game it means a part of your office in a specific town where
you can order goods from.

Marco

[Audyssey] new computergame - Mississippi

2006-08-22 Thread Marco Steinebach - Mardy
Hallo to all,

I want to tell you about the newest Mardy-Production, a Computer-Game
called Mississippi.

Mississippi is a trading simulation which starts in 1770 in the wild west
of good old America. One day you receive a letter, that your uncle who's living
in America has died and bequeaths you his whole properties. That means 50
square meters of stockroom, 1000 $ and 50 grain. After that you decide to
jump at this chance. You leave your old home and emigrate to the new world.

You have to buy and sell your goods, build kontors in several towns, build
wagons, and earn money. If you are good enough at least you will be
president of America. But, as in real live, there are good and bad news,
some for yourself, some for all players. E.g. you can win a lot of money, or
all your wagons could not leave your HQ and so you won't get goods for this
round.

You can play the game with 5 persons. And, that's a very interesting fact,
you can play it with sighted people together.

There is much music, and most of the news are spoken. The game itself is not
self-voicing, so you need a screenreader to play it. We have tested it with
Window-Eyes and JAWS and it works properly. If not, feel free to ask, and we
