let's turn this topic back over to Damien since its his game we are

Hi Lisa,

Grin. I like the way you think. As it happens no programmer has ever
written a perfect program. There are always going to be bugs because
human beings are not perfect and are bound to make mistakes
eventually. I make mistakes all the time and I've been programming for
about 14 years. It can be anything from a simple typo to some code
that just fails to work as expected even though the code looks
correct.

Case in point. Everyone knows I've been working on MOTA AKA Ark of
Hope privately. One of the major bugs in the game right now is it
fails to update the current room when you climb a rope. If you climb
from room 3 to room 4 the game doesn't update your position at all.
I've looked through several lines of code and can't find the bug. It
is an example of how code can look correct but behave incorrectly
despite the developer's best efforts. The only thing to do in a case
like that is to try different things until the problem gets fixed.
Programmers, no matter who they are, usually encounter such bugs on a
regular basis because we are not able to foresee problems like this in
advance.

Cheers!

2012-07-06 Thread Ryan Conroy
First of all, it's worth 15. lol Secondly, maybe it has a few bugs that still
need to be ironed out? That's no reason to insult the developer and say how
can you charge me for this game. Blah blah blah like you always seem to do.
Thomas, Raul, who ever reads this, I'm sorry, but I'm just sick of this.
Everytime there's a little bug in a game, this kid has to complain about it.
If you don't think it's worth your money, don't buy it. Simple as that.
Myself personally, I find the game challenging, and was happy to put up the 15
dollars for it.

Just my two cents worth.

Hi William,
If you are having problems with your keyboard I will happily help you go
through them to see if there is anything wrong.
I would first recommend you download the latest update and see if that fixes
your issue. There was a keyboard bug which is now fixed. If not come back to
me and I will see what I can do.

Thanks.

Hi Will,

To begin with the game has just been released so give the developer a
break. There are, as you found out, a few bugs. However, Damien is
being good about fixing them as soon as he can and is aware of the
issues. If you don't think the game is worth $20 then don't buy it.
Its as simple as that.

Hi Ryan,

No worries. I for one agree with you. I understand there are bugs in
the game and the price seems high in light of the fact there is a free
Wheel of Fortune game floating around written by Freedom Games or

state that its not worth $20 when it is clear Damien is trying hard to
make a commercial product. He has fixed two patches in as many days
which I'd expect from a developer of commercial software.

Re: [Audyssey] x wheel how can this be a charged game?

2012-07-06 Thread Damien C. Pendleton

Hi Thomas and all,
If anyone prefers the original Freedom Wheel of Fortune and it works no
problem for them then by all means continue to play that one. Nobody is in
any way forced to purchase the game. However, in my experience there are
many issues with the Freedom Games version. The first and perhaps most
serious one is there is a Type Mismatch error message every time you get a
letter right, at which point the game completely exits, making it totally
unplayable. Other issues include a lack of comprehensive documentation, no
computer player and therefore hardly any challenge or competition in any
way, and an obvious lack of interest in maintaining it since the last
version seems to have been released over six years ago.
I have an electronic Wheel of Fortune game, again that I can't play due to
the visual element, so I decided to make a version similar to that one,
hence the birth of X-Wheel. However that has even gone above and beyond my
original plans, so in my view the Freedom version pretty much holds no
contest as far as I am concerned.
Admittedly X-Wheel has had a few overlooked issues crop up which are now, I
believe, fixed, however it has been thoroughly tested and I am well
satisfied with the result. Also as previously stated I do plan to maintain
it and, depending on reception, add other popular features, such as online
play, difficulty levels, puzzle creators and the like. This, I believe,
makes it unique in the market and therefore I decided to make it commercial.

Thanks.
Regards,
Damien.

JMO, but the current price of roughly $15 isn't too high, when you compare
how the game performs, and it's features and sound, to what was produced
probably 5 or 6 years ago as a free product that has not been updated since,
and that has a small database of puzzles. Thanks.

Re: [Audyssey] x wheel how can this be a charged game?

2012-07-06 Thread Charles Rivard
Well, for one thing, you've got to give the producer of the game enough time
to receive constructive criticism rather than insulting messages. You've
got to see that the developer sees your complaints, as well as you, as being
credible based on your reports of bugs and your attitude toward them.
You've got to give them time to work on bug fixes rather than demanding that
a newly developed game, marketed less than 2 days ago, works perfectly on
every computer, of which yours is one of. All computers are different,
issues may come up when the game is given to the public, and those issues
must be submitted to the developer in! an! adult! manner!, rather than

Re: [Audyssey] x wheel how can this be a charged game?

2012-07-06 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Damien,

Smile. Well, I for one do like your version better. At least from the
demo I've played so far. It works great on Windows 7, and of course
being built using the Blastbay Game Toolkit I know that it is being
developed with decent tools that aren't going to be outdated in the
near future. However, the only reason I mentioned Freedom Wheel of
Fortune is that it could be a hard sell for some people who think that
your version should be just as free as Freedom Wheel of Fortune which
I don't think is nearly as good as your version. The only reason I
haven't purchased X-Wheel is that I'm personally short on cash.

Cheers!

On 7/6/12, Damien C. Pendleton dam...@dcpendleton.co.uk wrote:

This, I believe,
makes it unique in the market and therefore I decided to make it
 commercial.
 Thanks.
 Regards,
 Damien.

Hi Ryan,

No worries. I for one agree with you. I understand there are bugs in
the game and the price seems high in light of the fact there is a free
Wheel of Fortune game floating around written by Freedom Games or
whatever. Still, William didn't have the right to insult Damien, and
state that its not worth $20 when it is clear Damien is trying hard to
make a commercial product. He has fixed two patches in as many days
which I'd expect from a developer of commercial software.

First of all, it's worth 15. lol Secondly, maybe it has a few bugs that
still need to be ironed out? That's no reason to insult the developer

say how can you charge me for this game. Blah blah blah like you always
seem

to do.
Thomas, Raul, who ever reads this, I'm sorry, but I'm just sick of this.
Everytime there's a little bug in a game, this kid has to complain about
it.

If you don't think it's worth your money, don't buy it. Simple as that.
Myself personally, I find the game challenging, and was happy to put up
the

15 dollars for it.

Just my two cents worth.

Ryan
