Re: [Audyssey] The dragon awakes.

2012-02-07 Thread dark

HI.

I certainly can explain spam, sinse getting rid of it is part of my job on
audiogames.net.

Spam essentially are automated messages generated by bot programs intended
to advertize stuff and get people to click on very dodgy links that lead to
sites ful of spyware and viruses.

Spam messages are always from new members, because the automated bot
programs need to register a new account, and usually come in one of two
forms.

1: Streight out adverts for enlargement of certain body parts, illegal
medicines, escort agencies, or occasionally other things like home insurance
(though usually spam adverts are always dodgy).

2: Messages containing dodgy links that pretend to be from a normal member
of the community who has just joined, but have nothing to do with games, or
the topic under discussion.

messages such as I agree with your statement absolutely, your post
expresses this point very well followed by a bad link, or

Hello, I have not learnt much about business before I saw your post, thank
you for the information again, followed by a dodgy site link.

The key thing, is spam is always from new members of a community, always
looks as if it's created by an automated bot program that has nothing to do
with audio games or indeed any topic under discussion, and always! contains
links to their spyware sites (it the links that are the purpose of
spambots).

So, I think it's pretty obvious that posts from a known source like
Draconis, or indeed anyone else that are relevant to a discussion, related
to audio games, and don't! try to fil your computer with addware are not
spam.

Hope this explanation makes sense.

Beware the grue!

I agree about Twitter.

Social networking, Twitter, facebook etc has really! never been my thing,
being as most people just seem to use it to talk about random and pointless
stuff, and though some places do use it for adds and updates, you still seem
to have to sift those from a lot of random chatter.

Besides, i've got enough E-mails and website forums to check each day as it
is.

Hi,

Sure. Spam is quite simply automated advertisements that are sent to
e-mail randomly using a spambot or similar method of spreading the
adds anonymously to someones e-mail etc. They usually contain adds to
enlarge certain body parts, advertise the illegal sale of prescription
drugs, pornography, and of course fishing e-mails that try to get you
to enter your credit card, bank account number, etc in order to steel
your identity.

Of course, it isn't just isn't e-mail these days but spammers attempt
to attack blogs and other forms of social networking as well. I might
go into the Wordpress Dashboard and find a dozen posts like this.

Hi, I'm so glad I found this weblog. I agree with you that the price
of prescription medicines in the US is too high. Click here to go to
the internet drug store to get your prescriptions filled for less than
half the price today.

Obviously, this is some type of sales pitch to buy prescription drugs
for less then the going rate in the US. Further more we don't know
where they come from, and if they are being purchased in another
country and being resold to the US that's illegal. Plus if I see a
message like that posted to a topic like playing Older Games on
Windows 7 its obvious the post has nothing to do with the topic at
hand. That in a nutshell is spam.

Another type of spam is the fishing e-mail. They usually take the form
of a banker, businessman, or friend of someone who recently died and
left you huge sums of money in his/her will. They ask you to give you
the routing number to your bank account so they can deposit the sum of
x million dollars in it. Unfortunately, many gullible people have done
just that only to wake up the next morning to find their entire life
savings gone with the wind.

Other fishing spam messages are more devious. They might pretend to be
Paypal, your bank, Amazon, etc and tell you that they lost your
account info, and please click this link and fill out the form
correctly to correct your account info. The link will take you to some
fake website that looks like Amazon, Paypal, whatever but the domain
name in the address will be close enough to fool some people by
changing paypal.com to something like paypal-us.com which looks close
but not exactly the same website address. Many, many, many people have
been dooped by this kind of spam of handing their accounts over to
people who will steel their identity and sell it to someone else.

Cheers!

As far as I know it can't be run on XP at all, so you need a previous

And wasn't there a lot of reports that in Monkey Business 1.9 a level was

I guess I was expecting more, obviously this is not spam, as there is
a thread on speculation on tha audiogames.net forums now.

Hi Shaun,

While I do understand the source of your doubt, mistrust, etc let me
just say this is definitely not spam. Josh e-mailed me a couple of
days ago explaining that he wanted to release some hints, teasers, etc
leading up to an announcement of what Draconis is working on. As this
is intended to be a surprise release there is no information being
made available to the public other than the teasers. I would do things
a little differently myself, but I think your comments are a bit too
harsh given Josh appears to be building up to an announcement of some
kind. All I say is be patient and don't knock the guy too hard given
he has spent the last two or three years developing something in
secret that he is now getting ready to announce at some future date on
list.

Cheers!

hmmm, I have not been sure weather to respond or not, the site says

 something was coming.
For all that it it is, it could be spam for all I know or care, they
 are back, so what.
Maybe they changed a copywrite line somewhere, I could do that easily.
I could change a copywrite line every year and do nothing and say I am
 online.
I don't wish to be rood but josh has not written on here for ages,
and until he does this may as well be spam, for all the good it does.

While it is really good to hear that Draconis is still here and working on
new projects, shouldn't they make an announcement to adress two issues
with two of their games?

I mean the fact that the current version of Ten Pin Alley.
As far as I know it can't be run on XP at all, so you need a previous
version to properly run on XP.
And wasn't there a lot of reports that in Monkey Business 1.9 a level was
either missing or was skipped?

Hi Lori,

Not yet, but I have it on good authority that Draconis is working on
something big. That's all Josh would say about it. He wants their new
game title to be a big surprise so has elected not to post any news on
the website until its a done deal.

I could change a copywrite line every year and do nothing and say I am online.

For all that it it is, it could be spam for all I know or care, they

Maybe they changed a copywrite line somewhere, I could do that easily.
I could change a copywrite line every year and do nothing and say I am

  Hi Shaun,
The dragon only opened one eye.
You got to give it time to wake up!
   It is not spam.

hmmm, I have not been sure weather to respond or not, the site says
or said this morning 2009, I was expecting an announcement that
  something was coming.
