Hi,

Hmmm...I don't think that would work. Besides bug fixes, which there
are a handful I just fixed, you won't get level 2 without installing
beta 18. So sticking with beta 17 will be, well, not that desirable
for anyone in the long run.

Hi Tommy,

That is because the game is still in development. Only the first level
is complete. I'm just now starting to work on the second level, and
have plans to add a few extra things to the first level. That's what I
meant about the game isn't complete. There is still lots and lots of
work to do before this game is ready to sell.

Hi Hayden,

Agreed. When I release an FPS version of Mysteries of the Ancients I
plan to use the same general layout as the Tomb Raider games. In that
sense the alt key will be asigned to jump. Here is the default
keyboard layout I have planned for the 3d FPS version.

Climb Down: control+down arrow
Climb Up: control+up arrow
Crouch/Crawl: c
Jump Backward: alt+down arrow
Jump Forward: alt+up arrow
Jump Left: alt+left arrow
Jump Right: alt+right arrow
Look Down: page down
Look up: page up
Perform Action: enter
Run Forward: up arrow
Sidestep Left: shift+left arrow
Sidestep Right: shift+right arrow
Step Backward: shift+down arrow
Step Forward: shift+up arrow
Turn Around: down arrow
Turn Left: left arrow
Turn Right: right arrow

As keyboard commands goes this is pretty par for mainstream games. I'm
sure it might be a bit weird from those coming from games like Sarah,
Shades of Doom, etc but as a long time mainstream gamer the keyboard
commands happen to be very natural to me, and what I'll be using. I'll
most likely have to add a few extra turn commands like control+left
and control+right to do right to next 90 and some things VI games
have, but over all the layout above is probably the best possible
layout for an FPS game like I have planned.

Hi Raul,

Now, that you mention it I've seen that type of thing happening. I
wasn't aware why that was happening, but thanks to your insight I
guess it is difference between legacy 3.x Adrift games and 4.x based
games. Personally, I like 4.0 better myself.

On 2/7/11, Raul A. Gallegos r...@asmodean.net wrote:

Tom, this is correct. However the thing to keep in mind is that if you
play a 3.9 game from Adrift 4.0 or from Scare, the game is actually
converted to a 4.0 game and this means that it may not function exactly
the right way. An example of a major difference is the and command. In
adrift, you could have tasks such as climb the tree and the fence, but
in Adrift 4.0, this type of and command is not possible because it tries
to manipulate objects together. Since you can't climb the tree and the
fence at the same time, then the command fails. This is a bad example,
but only one I could think of right now.

I personally like 4.0 better than 3.9, but for those few 3.9 games I
play on occasion, I just use the 3.9 game runner.

Many thanks.

Subject: [Audyssey] Clearing Up Some Myths About Mainstream Games

Hi everyone,

As moderator and an interested party I've read almost everything
written on the frustrated with the blind gaming community topic and
it seams to me one of the biggest issues here is clear cut
communication between those who are in the know and those who aren't.
There are a lot of myths expressed by many of the VI gamers who don't
have any experience with mainstream games. I'd say most if not all of
the myths are based on ignorance of what the other side is trying to
say.

For example, let's take the term vidio game. One person said that
the word vidio meant that you had to have sight to play these games
because the word vidio is a visual term. This is not necessarily
true.

To start with obviously vidio games have graphics and animation.
However, that isn't the beginning and ending of the game. There are
sounds, music, etc that have become extremely realistic over the past
ten to fifteen years or so. This means as things like 3d audio have
advanced and games use wav files instead of beeps and so on it has
made it more possible for us to listen carefully and play a number of
games through sound. Nobody is saying this is easy, but that it is
possible.

The second issue is types of games. It is not really possible to pick
up a first-person or third-person vidio game and begin playing it by
sound because of complex level layouts, too many items to find/pick
up, and over all it is just very very complex to manage without sight.
Although, I have actually done it after an insane amount of practice.
However, this doesn't mean there aren't vidio games we can't just pick
up and play. There are wrestling games like Smackdown VS Raw that is
fairly playable without sight. There are the music games like Guitar
Hero and Rockband that can be played with some practice. There are
fighting games like DC VS Mortal Kombat that are fairly accessible to
play with some practice at it. There is a very good reason why the
fighting genre of games in particular are fairly accessible to play by
a blind individual.

First, someone said, it isn't very strategic to keep punching when
the enemy is on the ground. That wouldn't happen for one very good
reason. In a fighting game you can hear the enemy fall and hit the
ground. If you know what that sounds like you aren't going to stand
there mindlessly kicking and punching thin air. You'll know they are
on the ground by the sound he/she makes when they fall. Okay?

The second issue is someone said, if you have already been punched
you can't block it. Again this indicates ignorence of how advanced
these fighting games are. There are actually two attack sounds. There
is the sound of the punch, kick, whatever coming and there is the
sound of it connecting with your body. If you are paying attention,
listening carefully, you can hear the attack coming and either attempt
to dodge it or block it in some way. In this way even though you
can't physically see the attack coming on screen there is plenty of
audio queues to give you advanced warning of what is happening.

Basically, what I'm saying is the main reason guys like Yohandy are
into playing these fighting games is it can be done, and there is
plenty of audio queues and sounds to make it more than possible to do
totally blind. It is cases like this were vidio has nothing to do with
weather or not you can play it because the audio really is fairly
equal to what is happening on screen.

Finally, there is the issue of menus and things like that. Yeah, this
is something of a hastle. It takes a bit of memorization, but there
are work arounds. One way is simply to take a sheet of braille paper,
put it in your brailler, and type up a list of what every menu item is
for this or that game. Sure it isn't as straight forward as a talking
menu, but it is an easy work around for a problem.

One way I look at this is to look at it this way. How many times have
you gone to a regular store like K-Mart, Wal-Mart, etc and purchased a
standard board game like Monopoly or picked up a deck of playing
cards, taken it home, and brailled up the game. I've done it many many
times. I never purchase games through Independant Living aids, because
I can do exactly the same thing for a fraction of the cost with a
braille writer and a roll of dimo

Hi Tom
Thank you for the info.
I have read on google about balloon fight.
I take it the sort of kissing sound I heard was the player about to fall
in

water; stepping on the mud boundary?
how many stages does balloon fight have?
I have uploaded a small file on sendspace; recorded on my keyboard.
I would like to know what this sound in the game represented?
I heard this sound quite often while I played the game.
Sorry guys, I prefer sendspace as I can use the sendspace wizard and this
is

a tiny file.
Sorry shaun, but my keyboard records the stuff in wave and this file is
only

601 kb.
The link is
http://www.sendspace.com/file/w8xzl6
Many thanks for any info you might have.

Subject: [Audyssey] Quick MOTA Announcement

Hi everyone,

I know I told a lot of you that Mysteries of the Ancients beta 18
would be done about the end of February. A lot of you have started
asking questions off list what is going on, why isn't the beta ready,
etc and I thought I'd make a quick public announcement explaining
where we stand on things. As so often happens with creating accessible
games as a side venture in our free time real life problems and
issues simply get in the way. This case is no different.

Around a week ago my wife got really sick. We took her to the hospital
where they gave her some antibiotics, and strict orders to stay in bed
for seven to ten days until she felt well enough to get out of bed.
As a result I've had to take over all of the house hold duties such as
cooking, cleaning, and doing simple tasks like fetching my wife a
glass of water when she needs to take a pill etc. The end result of
all of this is absolutely no time to work on MOTA at all. So our beta
18 release schedule is pretty much shot to pieces.

So here is the thing. I could go ahead and release beta 18 now, as is,
but it isn't complete so to speak. Most of the upgrades are done,
level 1 has been updated, but we don't yet have level 2 added to the
demo. So it is really your choice if you want to wait a few days for
me to add level 2 to the game, when I have the time to do so, or if
you would rather just have the beta now without level 2. Any thoughts?

Sincerely,
Thomas Ward

Good question. To my knowledge no one has the game any more. I was

could get a copy of the game. At any rate it was a pretty terrible

Subject: [Audyssey] XAudio2 and BGT

Hi all,

Recently I have been making some drastic changes to the BGT core. As many
of you will know, most audio games today use a technology known as
DirectSound to output audio. BGT is no exception. Until about 3 years ago
DirectSound was the interface of choice for all Windows based games. It
has been around since 1995, and has become rather stable over the years.
However, Microsoft are now pushing developers away from DirectSound as it
is being replaced by a new audio engine called XAudio2. XAudio2 provides
much greater flexibility when it comes to low latency audio processing,
and is an over-all better system than DirectSound. However, in order for
XAudio2 to work reliably I have found that the end users need to run at
least the June 2010 release of Direct X 9. It is also necessary for users
of Windows 7 service pack 1 to upgrade in a few cases.

So my question to you all is this. In the next BGT release, would you like
me to switch to XAudio2? This will give much better performance on Windows
Vista and 7 as compared to DirectSound, but should be about the same on
Xp. However, the games simply will not run if the user has anything
earlier than Direct X June 2010 installed and it will force them to
upgrade. Do I maintain two versions of the engine for a while, a
DirectSound and an XAudio2 build, or are we okay to switch immediately?
This is what I would like to ask you all before I make a final decision.

Thanks for reading.

Kind regards,

Philip Bennefall

I was trying to register my website name again--and it's gone. Some
so-called psychics, who, if they had truly been psychics would have known
about my company, stole DreamTechInteractive.com. Can ya believe it!
so I had to come up with a new name. I wanted something that would cover
everything I do--games, massage, music, writing etc.
So, since my aim is to make games, music and books you can't put down, and
massage you wish would never end,

I'm happy to present to you
WWW.TheAddictor.com.
The site will be up in about two days, so don't go there just yet.
Also, Phrase Madness is nearly complete. Louis Bryant is helping with the
server side and http code that will allow the uploading and downloading of
new comments and phrases in exchange for some audio work, so as soon as
that is done, the game will be ready for sales. It's one I am going to
market to the sighted community as well, so we should get quite a few new
and interesting comments and phrases.

I realize that most of you that want to hear this probably already have on

Hi Dark,

In Q9 you do hear monsters from across pits etc, but as you say the
attacking and jumping mechanics are quite flat. In my upcoming game I have
a very different setup. I have spent a lot of time on mechanics, such as
the fact that you no longer tap an arrow key to move in the air. Also,
when you begin running from a walk or a standstill you do not immediately
switch to your maximum speed. Instead you gradually gain momentum until,
after four or five steps, you are at your maximum. I have also expanded
the concepts of weapons slightly, where each weapon has not only a maximum
but also a minimum range. To use a rifle, for instance, you need to back
off a bit from the target before you can fire, and the same is true for
the spear. The knife and the revolver, on the other hand, are better for
close range combat. This all makes for a much more dynamic gaming
experience, and coupled with the vastly improved artificial intelligence
of the creatures in the game I am hoping to have a much better product
than Q9 coming up. smile.

Kind regards,

Philip Bennefall

Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Reviewing space in audio

Hello Darren.

Actually thinking about it, you've probably hit the nail exactly on the
head.

You talk about showing in audio how far to jump say like in Jim's
golf game where your told what a shot is and then must judge the distance.

However, in a graphical game you are never told this at all you are
merely

presented with an obstacle and it's up to you to work out how to get round
it, rather than there being a set way.

For instance, you might get over a long pit either by doing a normal jump
from directly on the edge, or by doing a running jump from further back.

While I do agree a more analogue and free form system in audio is more
work
to come up with, I certainly don't think it's impossible, and the
bennifits

to making addictive games are hugely worth it.

To take your example, look at these two different situations:

1: you press a key once to jump over a pit, then are attacked and must
defend yourself the instance after.

or 2: you can here! a monster on the other side of the pit and must either
use a ranged attack, or wait until the monster backs off to jump across.

the first situation is similar to a game like Q9 or superliam, and just
perpetuates the issue we have now. yes, the first time it will probably be
a
surprise, but after only a couple of playthroughs, you'll be expecting
that

attack once your across the pit.

The second case however gives you more options, and indeed forces you to
take into account the environment around you.

I actually think not enough has really been done with the possibilities of
environmental sound in a 2D contex, for instance, using the pitch of
wind to show the depths of a pit, or being abel to here monsters before
engagin in attacks with them.

Also, to my knolidge no audio game has ever used the more analogue style
movement which has been in mainstream games sinse the early 80's, where by
your characters' jump high or walking speed are tied to holding down a
button not merely pressing it.

This is quite possible to do in audio (look at the rai racer jets), I'm
just

rather confused as to why nobody has yet implemented it in a game.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Reviewing space in audio

Hi Dark,

That is quite a number of interesting points you raised here. I happen
to agree with you on all points. In fact, this is in large part why
Mysteries of the Ancients beta 18 is taking so long to release. I
decided to go back in and rewrite some of the various game mechanics
such as jumping to resemble that of the classic NES era games where
the longer you hold down the jump button/keys the higher and further
the main character will jump. As you said this requires a lot more
skill and judgment of how long to hold down the buttons or keys before
releasing them.

As you know in beta 17 and earlier I had a very simple jump system in
place where all you needed to do is press control+left arrow or
control+right arrow and Angela would safely land on the other side of
the pit, chasm, fire, lava, whatever just about every time. However,
not only was that very easy it was also pretty boring. So what I did
is I completely redesigned the jump mechanics to be more like classic
NES games like Super Mario where you now have to time your jumps in
order to make it safely to the other side of a trap. there have been a
number of times where I have over estimated a jump or under estimated
the length of a jump and Angela ended up impailed on a bronze spike,
took a bath in hot boiling lava, or got roasted over a huge fire pit.

For instance, one of the traps in the game is a large lava pit with a
stone ledge hanging out over the middle of the pit. The trick to
getting over the lava pit is to jump from one side of the pit up onto
that hanging stone ledge, and jump from there to the other side of the
pit. As you might have guessed this takes perfect timing and percision
to do it correctly. If you misjudge the length of the jump Angela is
going to have a very hot bath in lava. If you don't jump far enough
Angela will not reach the ledge and fall into the lava. If you hold
down the keys too long she'll jump over the stone ledge and land in
the lava anyway. The key to successfully making it is listening very
carefully to the drip, drip, drip, of the water dripping off that
ledge and judge your jump as best as you can. This way insures you use
both some skill and personal judgement to figure out how far and
howlong to jump rather than Angela just landing on that ledge as soon
as she is close to it as the game use to.

So what you are suggesting here is very possible. I've been practicing
with some of these ideas you suggested in beta 18, and I think it
would be cool if more games started doing this as well. It makes
jumping far more tricky and takes practice to get just right. I've
learned from my own experience with MOTA beta 18 you won't get it
right your first try in a lot of cases.

As far as changing pitch of pits and stuff that's another good idea. I
should probably put that down in my things to do list for beta 18. You
have a point that the deeper the sound of the pit the larger the pit.
The higher the sound the smaller it is and you should be able to
determine its size by pitch alone rather than just using a look/view
command to gather that information all the time.

Cheers!

On 3/16/11, dark d...@xgam.org wrote:

Hi Phil.

i agree this would be a good thing (though the business about damage for
over jumping seems unnecessarily harsh to me), but I think your over
complicating the situation more than it would need to be.

As I said, the relative width of pits could be shown by altering the
pitch
of the sound. Say for instance a pit you could jump normally from the
edge

(to use your example a five foot or less), would have a high pitched wind
sound, a pit which was jumpalbe with a long jump has a medium, and a pit
which was not jumpable at all has a low ominous wind.

A standard two step boundry would be more than enough even when running
given the speed of character movement to tell you when your on the edge
of a

pit, heck, many people like myself play games like Q9 with the run
button perminantly held anyway.

As for jump hight relative to button pressing, well rail racers' jets are
a

perfect example of this.

Of course, the player would need to practice and learn how long he/she
has
to hold the button for a given jump, but that is in fact my point, that
many

audio games would be considderably more addictive and interesting if they
did! give the player a skill and form of jugement to learn by calculating
their characters movement according to the environment, rather than by
working on a basic stimulous response model.

Of course, starting easy (or non fatal), and getting harder would just be
part of the experience.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

Enter into my computer, and your drive for example c:\ or d:\, then enter
your documents and settings folder found in your c or d drive, enter your
username such as Admin, and you'll see a zgp folder. Enter and you'll find
monopoly. This is an explenation for xp. I don't know vista or win7.

Hi Charles,

Yeah, tell me about it. For a couple of days there I thought I was
going to die. You know how when you get a serious case of the flu all
you do is sleep, throw up, sleep, throw up, break out in chills, throw
up, sweat to death, throw up, etc. There were a couple of nasty days
were I couldn't keep anything down. I tried hot tea and chicken noodle
soop and that came right back up. I tried taking some medicine and
that came right back up too so had to rough it. Let's just say work of
any kind wasn't on my mind for a good two or three entire days. It was
all I could do to get out of the bed, use the bathroom, and get back
into bed. I was so physically drained that I think I was probably
sleeping 12 to 16 hours at a stretch. So game programming definitely
wasn't too important.

Cheers!

Hi Willem,

Thanks. Todays the first day I felt almost human in four or five days.
For the past week I've mainly sat in bed with my laptop exchanging a
few e-mails, or buried under blankets listening to books on my mp3
player. So its glad to be back with the living again.

Anyway, as for the 3d beta I'm pretty psyched about it. I've been
playing it off an on for the last few months, but could never find the
time to release beta 1. It is quite a bit better than the 2d in my
opinion as it is more like the Tomb Raider games, I.E. the 3d Tomb
Raider games, than the 2d version is. It is pretty much more like what
I origionally invisioned to begin with. So you guys can take your pick
weather you want the 2d version created to replace Montezuma's Revenge
or you can purchase the version created my way.

Smile.

USA Games News

March 31, 2011

Introduction

Hello, and welcome to another edition of the USA Games news letter.
This has been, so far, not a good start to the
new year for us at USA Games Interactive. My family and I have
undergone several health issues that have slowed and

in large part prevented us from making steady progress on our active
titles such as Mysteries of the Ancients and

USA Raceway. Although, we were planning on a quick release for MOTA
beta 18 health issues simply got in the way,

and everything had to be put on hold until we had recovered from the
various illnesses that struck the family.

It all began in mid to late February when my wife, Ester, discovered a
rash on her forehead. After she went to see
the doctor we discovered she had a bacterial infection called Impetigo
which is highly contagious. The doctor gave
her various antibiotics to get rid of the infection, but unfortunately
between the infection and antibiotics she
was sick for several days. She slept most of the time, and most of the
household chores like cooking, cleaning,

etcc fell to me while she rested.

Then, if things couldn't get any worse my son, Sean, came down with a
stomach flu in March. I'll spare you all the
gory details, but suddenly we had two ill people in the house, and one
really able bodied person up and about. So

that became something of a serious challenge for me.

Finally, in late March I myself came down sick with the flu and spent
several days in bed sleeping, throwing up, or

just reading books waiting for my body to recover. Fortunately, my
wife was pretty much over her infection so she

was able to tend to me giving me bowls of soup, medicine, etc while I
weathered the flu. As I write this I'm far

better than I was, but I still feel a bit drained and week from the
events of the past week.

So in the end do to health related issues we literally lost about a
month in development time as one or more
family members fell ill, and all of our active projects were put on
hold. All the same some work was completed, and

it is to these changes, updates, etc I'd like to report. Many of These
things were added before the family became
sick, and some I managed to work on in my free time throughout the
month of March as I found time to do them. So
fortunately it wasn't a complete loss. So here is to the good news.

New Default Voice

Over the past few months of game development I discovered it was
extremely time consuming to record, edit, and
produce prerecorded wav files for several different game titles at
once. We had Accapela Heather for Mysteries of
the Ancients, Real Speak Tom for USA Raceway, ATT Crystal for Final
Conflict, etc. It is something of a hassle to
record hundreds, perhaps thousands, of speech clips for each and every
game especially when in a lot of the cases
the messages such as numbers, directions, standard menus, etc are the
exact same thing but using a different Sapi
voice. So I decided what we really needed to do is decide on a default
voice that we would use for every single
game. That is to create a large library of voice clips and samples we
could literally copy into a new USA Games
project and have all the basic work done such as numbers, default
menus, standard status messages, etc. All that
would need to be added is specialized speech clips for new weapons,
characters, extra status messages, whatever
which would greatly speed up the development process as well as save
me a lot of unnecessary work.

So I began looking at all the Sapi voices I own to find out which one
sounded the most professional, which one was
the most clear, and seamed to have the best pronunciation dictionary.
Accapela Heather, although she has a nice
voice, really has difficulty with pronunciation. The ATT voices like
Crystal, Mike, etc also sound good but have
difficulty with words that often come up in sci-fi and fantasy books.
The Neospeech voices while they also sounded
good often tended to spell words they couldn't pronounce which made
coming up with a correct pronunciation
difficulty. In the end the only voices that seamed to meet most of my
requirements were the Real Speak voices that
ship with Freedom Scientific products such as Jaws and Openbook. In my
personal

Hi Ken,

Well, as far as package deals goes I'll probably eventually have
something like that in place, but I don't honestly expect everyone to
buy both. Clear back as early as 2008 I remember asking the list
weather or not they wanted me to replace Montezuma's Revenge, AKA
Montezuma's Return, with a 2d side-scroller or a 3d first-person game.
The results were pretty fairly split.

Those in favor of the idea were tired of 2d side-scrollers and I think
were looking for something a little more advanced than your average
audio game, and most were interested in seeing what a full 3d action
adventure would be like. Especially, since this would be quite a bit
more advanced than something like Sarah or Shades of Doom.

At the same time there was the other side who strongly rejected the
suggestion claiming that 3d games are too hard, too confusing, and
they wouldn't buy the game if I created it as a 3d first-person
adventure. A few were upset about the fact I had to cancel Monte in
the first place and wanted a triditional 2d side-scroller along the
lines of what they paid for. Of course, since then I've read a number
of posts were people don't like Shades of Doom etc because they walk
around, get lost, run into walls, and just can't figure it out.
Obviously, for such people a 3d first-person game wouldn't be a good
purchase.

So in the end I had to make a personal decision. What I came up with
was a compromise which was to do both. I would produce a 2d
side-scroller first, release that as the official replacement for
Monte, and then go back and create a full 3d version complete with the
bells and wistles left out of the 2d side-scroller. Which version a
customer decides to buy is largely his/her choice, and I will likely
have some sort of deal running where you can buy both for a reduced
price.

As far as your comment about it being redundant that's not necessarily
true. Both games will have essential differences that makes them two
distinctly different products, and eventually I'll be adding bonus
content etc to the 3d version that the 2d version won't have. For
instance, I might choose to add bonus levels, extra trophies, or other
content that will hopefully interest people into buying the 3d
version. Since the remainder of the Tomb Hunter series will all be 3d
first-person games this will be something of a preview of things to
come.

I've also considered before final release in adding an arcade mode to
the 2d platformer version that will have a scoring system etc similar
to the Atari, NES, for people wanting a more classic arcade feel. This
feature would not be available in the 3d first-person version. So you
see each will have some differences that might be selling points for
some people.

Hey,
I don't think many people are going to buy both versions unless you have
a

package deal--say fifty bucks for both. It seems though that to buy both

the

advanced the 3d, so I guess you won't have many customers buying both,
unless they buy the 2d, get used to that and want to take that next big
jump...Ken Downey

This will work best if you've lost 8-10 times since cpu gets a little less
aggressive with blocking. Let me know if you guys need the combo. however
it's a pretty simple exploit so you shouldn't have many problems. This is
guaranteed to get you past challenge 300 in around 3 mins. enjoy, but
whatever you do, never ever try it online! You'll get punished badly since
that teleport is easily blockable. If you have any questions, let me know.

Uh... I don't exactly combo count lol. plus most of the time it's not even
about combos anyway, it's about outsmarting your opponent. what do you
need help with?

This will work best if you've lost 8-10 times since cpu gets a little
less aggressive with blocking. Let me know if you guys need the combo.
however it's a pretty simple exploit so you shouldn't have many
problems. This is guaranteed to get you past challenge 300 in around 3
mins. enjoy, but whatever you do, never ever try it online! You'll get
punished badly since that teleport is easily blockable. If you have any
questions, let me know. enjoy your reward!

Hey Tom,
I totally agree. in fact, don't just beat the AI, but beat the thing on
the hardest setting possible in the game, and do it consistently. Also a
very important thing is, learn everything about your particular character
of choice. For example my character is scorpion, and I'm always looking to
learn new things for him. Learn their main strengths and weaknesses. their
ranges. what's safe on block and what isn't, what are their combos. what
can you string together and what moves will do the most massive amount of
damage? Practice mode is real useful for this type of thing. there's a
setting that'll force the CPU opponent to autoblock, and another setting
that'll give you unlimited meter. 2 extremely useful options that should
be used to train and get better at the game. if the AI can block it, so
can anyone else. and best thing of all you can do is, go online. a lot.
against totally random people. after a few beatings, you'll start noticing
improvements. hahaha

Hey Yohandy.

Oh I understand it is hard to explain. Pretty much what I tell people
looking to get into mainstream games is of course get good at fighting
the AI first before you worry too much about going online and going up
against people or you may get discouraged and give up. I am frankly
still at that stage myself but that is largely because I only have a
limited amount of hours I am willing/able to put into learning these
things and as you rightly point out this is very important. This is why
I refer to myself as more or less a casual mainstream gamer. I really
enjoy it, in fact I enjoy my mainstream games as much as or more than
most of my accessible ones, but do not pretend to be very good at it
most of the time. Yeah I can just imagine how that match went for you
lol. As you can no doubt tell from when this message is being sent I am
up at a barbaric hour getting ready to leave for work but once my
schedule lets up after this next couple weeks I will hopefully really be
able to sit down and devote more time to my newer titles Rock Band and MK
9.

unlocking some of the trophies in particular can be extremely frustrating.
I don't know if you noticed the secret notes? check cheerleader part for a
ton of the things. those are going to give you some problems. the ones on
the Stay tuned! parts are extremely annoying, and are usually right at the
end of a checkpoint, so you have to start the whole section over if you
miss them. and some of those checkpoints are reeally long! then you
also have to worry about getting all the commands perfectly. it can all be
done quite accessibly if you put in the time though. If you guys need a
list of tough or inaccessible commands let me know and I'll provide that
info.

unlocking some of the trophies in particular can be extremely
frustrating. I don't know if you noticed the secret notes? check
cheerleader part for a ton of the things. those are going to give you
some problems. the ones on the Stay tuned! parts are extremely annoying,
and are usually right at the end of a checkpoint, so you have to start
the whole section over if you miss them. and some of those checkpoints
are reeally long! then you also have to worry about getting all the
commands perfectly. it can all be done quite accessibly if you put in
the time though. If you guys need a list of tough or inaccessible
commands let me know and I'll provide that info.

That was a nice playthrough... I haven't beaten it myself yet so I
stopped at report 5 to avoid spoilers. But nice one all the same! I
wish they had more variations in the pattern though... it's such a
small game, and one that had so much potential.

Hi,

ah, ok. But I really doubt I could remember such long passages after
reading them to be able to get it right in the actual game. *lol*
But I'll certainly try to get my hands on the game and will let you
know when I got it and if there are any questions. I would at least
the menu layout and things like that.

Best regards

Re: [Audyssey] popomundo

2006-11-29 Thread Tommy Carroll
I would recommend this game as well. If you're into realistic games in which
there is truly 100 percent control by the players, you've gotta play this.
My name is Eddy Butler, I'm in London and in Distorted. One thing you have
to be prepared for if you join this game is feeling way behind and not being
good for a long, long while. Things cost a lot and to even put on an okay
show you have to have so many things set right. Don't get discouraged,
though, the game is amazing!

Re: [Audyssey] Rail Racer news

2006-12-06 Thread Tommy Carroll
Fantastic? Outstanding? Amazing? Maybe revolutionary? I can't decide which
is the best word for this game!
You can consider this game purchased and on my computer which is a pretty
large accomplishment due to the fact that I don't buy many games. I think
the game would have been awesome if it were released a few months back
without some of the features, but now? Totally excited...

Subject: [Audyssey] Rail Racer news
Date: Tue, 5 Dec 2006 19:09:53 -0600

   Hi gang,
I have been away from the list for a while working on the Rail Racer
multi
player code, but I am back now with some good news for all you adrenaline
junkies out there.
A whole lot of features have been added to the game since my last update
here, and I am going to give a full listing of features in about a week
after the active beta testers and I polish off some of the code.
Additionally, I will be offering a pre purchase with a discount for those
that are interested. The full release will be 38 dollars U.S., and the pre
purchase will be 33, more details to come next week.
In the meantime, here are some of the major features:
Force fields and loops and hurdles, oh my: This isn't your typical racing
game, as your racer is equipped with jump jets so you can jump over hurdles
in the track. This has to be timed just right so you don't waste time in
the air by jumping too high, but you have to make sure your altitude is
high
enough to get you over the jump.
Loops will test your ability to make quick and accurate shifts, as you
will first have to climb the first half of the loop and then quickly shift
up as you come out of the loop.
Force fields can be placed on a track, forcing you to slow down before
the
field. Try and take the field too fast, and you are gonna come to a
screeching halt, but again, you don't want to slow down too much, or you
waste valuable time and speed. Delicate driving baby, delicate driving.

Mouse control: Besides the standard keyboard and joystick support, you
can drive your racer with the good old mouse, pushing up to accelerate,
pulling down to slow, and leaning left and right. Mouse buttons will shift
you through the gears. The mouse is a great way to control accessible
games, and along with Liam's new shooter, I hope to see more and more games
take advantage of it.

Damage management: Your racer will take damage in the higher skill
levels
if you take a curve badly or crash into a hurdle or force field. If this
happens, do you burn the time fixing it in the pits, or try to finish the
race with your damanged and therefore slower racer? It is all up to you
little buddy. Along with fuel management, deciding when or if to pit can
be
the difference between entering the winners circle or crying in your beer.

Web posting: All Tracks have their own web page on the Blind Adrenaline
web site, so you can post your times and see how you stack up to the
competition.

Career play: You will earn money as you win races, as well as accumulate
points for bragging rights. The money can be used to upgrade your racer as
you become more successful. These upgrades include a superCharger to boost
acceleration, nitros and extra nitro ports for a sudden burst of speed, and
a gravity puller to get your racer back on the track quickly after a
successful jump.
Also, as you accumulate more points, you will open up more and more
tracks
that get progressively harder and more complex to race.

Track editor: I know, you are thinking, wow, those loops and force
fields
sound pretty cool, wish I could make my own tracks with that stuff. Well
you are in luck my racing friend, because Rail Racer comes with a track
creator that will allow you to create and race your very own tracks,
setting
section lengths, curve placement and peppering your tracks with force
fields, loops, hurdles and cheering crowds to your hearts content. If you
build a true masterpiece, send it to me and if it is worthy, I will include
it online so others can race it both in single player mode and online
against other players.

Tweak your ride: Like fiddling with your racer to get the best speeds
possible? Once again you have come to the right place. In the garage, you
have the ability to adjust your gear ratios and wing angle to achieve the
perfect balance of control, speed and acceleration. Some tracks will
require quick acceleration for tight turns and lots of loops and jumps.
Others will go hand in hand with a high gear ratio and low wing angle to
get
to your highest speed. Fiddle around a bit and see what settings work the
best for your favorite tracks.

Multi player code running on a dedicated server: What this means is you
can jump right into a online race with your friends and enemies right from
the game, no swapping of IP addresses to find a server. The dedicated

Re: [Audyssey] Racing points

2006-12-20 Thread Tommy Carroll
Hey Che,
How about offline circuits? I love the online circuit idea, but I'd also
really enjoy racing computers in a circuit to satisfy my craving for
championship action. Another cool thing would be to have maybe more than one
circuit; each having different sets of tracks. And I'm just dreaming here,
create your own circuit?
These are all just suggestions, all the power to ya if you like em.
