ya know, I've been trying to find one of those, but there doesn't seem to be any good PDF to text converters. Re: [Audyssey] MK nostalgia
Wow man, that really makes me feel great. As I previously mentioned, I had no clue people would even listen to it. I was trying to capture an audience, and I think I've succeeded. I had a bunch of sighted people listening to it on the original sight. That was shocking to say the least. I could go ahead and record some deception gameplay, and armageddon as well, if you guys wish. For an amazing video gaming site containing original soundtracks, game art, etc, go here. http://gh.ffshrine.org?r=16426 - Original Message - From: Neo [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list Gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Wednesday, October 11, 2006 7:56 AM Subject: [Audyssey] MK nostalgia Hi Yohandy and all Mortal Kombat fans, I'd like to thank you very much for your insightful review. It certainly brought lots of sentimental memories back to me from the times when there was a guy owning PS2 and Deadly Aliance living just downstairs from me. I used to stay in his flat for endless hours and hours, watching him and my brother play against each other and improve their skills radically every single day, then shyly asking them to let me try it out for a while, feeling the incredible surprise of how well I was able to play it, later fascinating them by my proficiency with scorpion and Raiden, and finally making them open up their mouths in pure astonishment when I was able to beat both the sighted guys in about a minute or so with flawless victory. I can remember it so clearly, just like it was yesterday when we played like that for the last time. However, I can no longer stay in touch with that person, as he had moved to the other side of our country, and I don't unfortunately know anyone else who has PS2 and Mortal Kombat. I can still feel the powerful motivation to sit in front of the console, trying to learn more and even more attacks, moves and combos, wanting to become better and better. I can still hear my brother and our friend forcing me to stop for a while and then playing series of deadly matches against each other, increasing their skills with their favorite characters and preparing to defeat me like hell... Wish I had a PS2 too so that I would be able to play that wonderful game once again... :-) I do surely encourage you to do more recordings, if you find it valuable and interesting, and especially funny for yourself. I would for example really welcome an entire arcade session without any explanations or so, just recorded gameplay, so that I could listen to it carefully, concentrate on all the nuances that can be caught through the sounds and enjoy the nice fights. I wasn't aware that ARmagedon has already been released either. :-) I've already listened to your Deception demo like three times or so and I can still find something new and surprising in it. It also gave me a whole lota new will, interest, power and longing to push the development forward on my own accessible adaptation of the MK style. I wrote an informal update about Lethal Force and sent it to this list several months ago and I haven't really done much since that time. I've just recorded the intro sequence and the announcer, wrote a few lines of the design docs, got one or two small pieces of music ready and searched for several rather basic sounds, but that's all. Now, however, I have started searching for more involved sounds of the required environment, footsteps, punches and so on, have began to enlarge and plan out the design pretty precisely, etc... It will certainly take me a few years to learn a desired programming language and to practice enough so that I'll be able to create such a massive project, but I can start doing something for its release even today... And I do thank you for the impulse... Take care and enjoy Mortal Kombating, Lukas ___ Gamers mailing list .. Go to the library and get the rain dancing book. Use the rain dancing book with the dog whistle you received from the professor. It will do something cool. Then you need to catch the frog. After you catch the frog go to the church and scare the organ lady with the frog. Just scaring her with the frog in its normal size won't work, so you'll have to make him bigger. Use one of the potions on the frog, I can't remember which one but try either of them. One of the potions will make it a mutant frog. how would donationware work though? At 01:25 PM 12/6/2006, AudioGames.net wrote: Hi David, I'll try to answer that question the best I can: Every game that is created with Audio Game Maker consists of multiple files: a standard Audio Game Player.exe, some standard library files, an XML file that contains all the data of the game, and four folders that contain all the sound files that are used in the game. To distribute a game, you simply share these files with someone else (simply .zip them up and send 'm). That person does not need to have Audio Game Maker, as all games are stand-alone. However, when someone receives a game from somebody else and puts the files in the Audio Game Maker folder, that person is able to open the .XML game file using Audio Game Maker. This means that when you create a game with Audio Game Maker and distribute it (either for free, money, goats, Linden dollars or MySpace kudos) others can access your game file later on, edit it, change the soundfiles, and distribute it themselves for even more goats or red paperclips. Therefore I hope you see that once you sell one game and it's out on the Net, others can easily modify it. I personally don't have anything against you selling a game you made with Audio Game Maker (you have every right to ask for compensation for your hard work), but with how Audio Game Maker works, you probably won't make that much money. Although, I might add, I hereby dare the community to come up with your own economic system if you want ;) Like a donation system, or a ransom marketing system (you create a game but not yet release it, advertise it, and when you receives enough money in donations, you release the game for free), etc. etc.. I dare you all, folks ... (smile) ... The goals of the Audio Game Maker project are: 1) to increase the amount of audio games 2) give visually impaired wanna-be game designers a chance to develop their own audio games with a (simple) what you hear is what you get- kind of tool (at least something simpler than C++) I am personally very interested in point 1, since more games means more examples added to the discourse means more knowledge on audio game design and more examples of accessible game design for the general game industry. For us there is no financial gain in this whole project. We decided for a non-protected format for the games for several reasons. One was that it is quite hard (given the short amount of time in which Audio Game Maker is conceived) to create a tool with which one can create games that are copy-protected/piracy safe. The other was that we would like to create a community of people all developing audio games, sharing their ideas and games with each other, teaming up to build larger games together. We were thinking along the lines of this: let's say that there are a few people out there who want to build a Pong-type of game. With Audio Game Maker, once someone has finished a Pong game, others can use that game to create their own version, convert it into an Arkenoid type of game, etc. Many of you are currently into modding existing audio games. Think of this as not only being able to change each others sound files, but also take a game and make it your own. This is something that has been going on with Flash/Shockwave game development for many years already. Is this enough of an answer? Greets and thanks for your interest! It involves flipping a bean bag up into the air and getting it to land on various holes in your paddle. Fun though and way different from Bop it Zing it: a yoyo version of bop it. Has a bop it button, zing it, which is just making the yoyo go up and down on the string, and loop it which you make the yoyo do a loop around your head. Bird brain, a concentration style game--I'd buy this one if anyone had it and wanted to sell an animated yoda with light saber--follow the commands, the light saber has a motion detector and sends data to Yoda's forehead sensor... Hi all, Earlier tonight I was playing the very original Alchemy demo of Montezuma's Revenge with some of my own patches and mods, of course, and one major thing stood out in that demo and the current USA Games version. In the Alchemy version there were some major penalties to getting killed. For example if you had 8 gems when you bit the big one your gems counter, gold, etc was reset to 0. So I am thinking of reintroducing this in to Monty. The one thing I wouldn't include is losing your keys as those are required for completing the level. However, if you lost your gems and gold your score might take a major hit. This would be a major factor for when I eventually get online score posting etc when those of you out there begin competing for the highest scores, and so on. Its ridiculous that I was told by my family who are also deep Christians, that harry's friends have the names of demons. But like josh says their names isn't demon; its real people. Only some of the creatures they face is demonlike. That's true; it remains fiction and it can't change my believe as Christian. So phil, what sound did you use for the dementors? I'm not asking to give the whole game away. I just would like to make double sure that absolutely no sound in the game is made by a real demon. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Thomas Ward Sent: Thursday, January 11, 2007 8:11 AM To: Gamers Discussion list Subject: Re: [Audyssey] sarah Hi Nicol, I think before we discuss a subject like say Harry Potter you always need to consider the source of the info. For example I know of people who are of the Christian far right who would demonise anything dealing with magic, or special powers, etc as they have a real objection to that sort of thing. I know of such folks who call things like Star Wars demonic, and say people who watch it are demon worshipers. I watch it, but am I a demon worshiper? I don't believe I am just because I am interrested in the films and movies. Same kind of folks demonise Harry Potter, and say it is demonic, and if you watch it you will be a demon worshiper, etc... So consider who you are talking to. Now, in the Harry Potter relm there are all kinds of evil creatures whom Harry Potter and his friends have to face. They have demonlike creatures called the Dementors who are probably the closest to demons you get. There was a professor named Loopin who turned out to be a warewolf. Normally, warewolfs are evil, but Loopin wasn't evil. You find things like that all over the Harry Potter books. I do not however find it interfears with my own Christian beliefs as I don't worship demons, believe there are dementors, warewolfs, goblins, etc and I don't even believe in magic. I recognise the movies and books as a work of fiction and that is where it remains in my mind. From the demo I played of Sarah way back when many of the creatures in Harry Potter show up such as ghosts, basilisks, dementors, were in the game. Did they bother me? They did not bother me. However, it might frighten you. I am not you, and I can't judge that. Only you can judge that. ___ Gamers mailing list .. Re: [Audyssey] sarah
I actually think 3 heads biting you would be so much challenging! that's how it works in the Harry Potter games. You hear like a growl, then the head bites you. you need to move to a head and play the notes on the flute as fast as you can. once that head is asleep, you move to the next. I'd love to see that in sarah! - For an amazing video gaming site containing original soundtracks, game art, etc, go here. http://gh.ffshrine.org?r=16426 - Original Message - From: Phil Vlasak [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Thursday, January 11, 2007 8:48 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] sarah Hi Tom, My favorite effect is Fluffy, the three headed dog. I recorded our Seeing Eye dog sitting down and getting up and sleeping. Then I recorded our little SuperDog growling and barking, and slowed his voice down to make him sound larger. Then I took three different sounds of him and created three voice objects. Then I attached them to one large dog body. So if you check the distance to Fluffy you will not get 3 numbers but the distance to the middle dog head. Re: [Audyssey] Dragon Warriors
I had originally subscribed to the beta team before listening to the demo, but I'm unsubscribing now. the more I listen to this thing, the more it sounds like a fraud. Not only are the stationary dragons exactly the same as the monkeys in SL, but how about the boss level? Bit suspicious huh? There are also a bunch of enemies at the beginning of level 1 ACT two, and the same in dragon. Here are your comments and my responses 1: You could jump over random monsters and apparently gain score, which you obviously can't in superliam. You can easily jump over monsters in super liam. I do it all the time just for fun. True you don't get points, but how do we know we get points for dragon warriors? The guy never checked his score after saying this. 2: You apparently have to jump ontop of objects and teleporters in Dragon warriors to pick them up. Same answer as above. If you happen to land on a bonus object in super Liam, you'll obtain it. 3: different keys used for the health and lives. How do we know the guy wasn't using the same keys? We can't see him pressing them/. 4: The developer didn't seem to mention any ability to run. Maybe cause he didn't want to make it too obvious, or simply forgot. Just my thoughts. Let me know what yall think! - For an amazing video gaming site containing original soundtracks, game art, etc, go here. http://gh.ffshrine.org?r=16426 - Original Message - From: Dark [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Saturday, January 13, 2007 11:37 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Dragon Warriors I must admit I'd not heard of this game before, but my first thought when I heard the demo was indeed of superliam. the similarities did rather strike me, even in some of the item placements (the health bonush in betwene two Motionless dragons on the second act for example). There also were a few differences I noticed in gameplay: 1: You could jump over random monsters and apparently gain score, which you obviously can't in superliam. 2: You apparently have to jump ontop of objects and teleporters in Dragon warriors to pick them up. 3: different keys used for the health and lives. 4: The developer didn't seem to mention any ability to run. apart from these though, I will admit the game did seem incredibly similar to Superliam, even down to having the same bonus sound and walking sounds (though as the developer said, these could just be place holders). If the game has indeed been modded after superliam, then I agree with you Liam, though it might be a case of extreme game similarity. Btw, a few things in the game also mildly confused me. why do you wake up and randomly decide to kill things? Where did you and the other dragons get lazer guns, bombs etc? and finally, who (in plot terms), is the boss dragon and why do you want to kill him? A litle more detail in the intro might be helpful methinks. Finally, I will say that dragons and wrap just seems an odd combination to youme: yo yo you: Young dragon on da streets, alwaysb gotta fight, ya stickin up a town and roast a knight, ya gotta hang on, to what gold ya got, and betta hope a hobbit don't find ya weak spot! ;D. On a slightly more positive note, click the following link to download an mp3 preview of what Audio Game Maker will approximately sound like: http://www.audiogamemaker.com/downloads/audiogamemakerpreview1.mp3 In this preview you will first hear how a new world is selected and how a new player object is added to this world. After that you will hear how a property (in this case the y-property of the player) is set to 1. You will then hear a Portal Object being built at some distance from the Player Object (the Builder moves away from the Player Object). The Audio Environment is then temporarily exited to create a new World. In the World Settings Menu the acoustics of this second world is then set to cathedral. Then you will hear how the Worldsound and the Moodsound for this world is set. After that a new player and another portal are added to the second world (you will then hear the builder turn 360 degrees in front of the player object). Then we return to the first world and set the properties of Portal 1 so that it links to the portal in world 2. Please note that this is only a preview to give you a first impression of Audio Game Maker. Many sounds are still missing and this is *not* the final soundmix. Not sure if I suggested this before, but if you cannot remember the layout of a level, you can always look at www.gamefaqs.com They have full walkthroughs for most games. I do agree that when a game imitates another game the dev should take care as to make it as well as they can to do many of the things the sighted games do. There are differences though like in Montezuma's Revenge I can not totally clearly remember the exact layouts of all the temples. That doesn't mean though that the game play will be much different in and that in other regards it is the same game. As for Star Trek games I played Final Unity, Borg, and others and those were really cool Star Trek games. I'd love to create one of that quality someday. STFC was just a trial run, an experimental game, nothing more, nothing less. michael feir wrote: That would depend on whether the game you're playing is anything like the ones they are. If a game is merely a Star Wars game due to using sounds from that franchise but is totally different from anything sighted people are playing, then you don't really have anything substantial to work with. If serious effort is made to make storm troopers behave like those in the movies, or to take into account the physics of ships as described by whatever central technical information exists to determine all that, then you have more to talk about meaningfully. Sighted people could play something like Pong or Topspeed2 or Sonic Invaders and compare it meaningfully to the games they've played. I don't get a sense of playing an actual Star Trek game when I play Tom's Final Conflict game. The sounds and such just aren't enough for me to set aside what I regard as true Star Trek gamedom. The combat is just too capricious with ships being destroyed instantaneously. Listening to the shows, combat seems a lot more serebral than that. There's at least time to take evasive action, try to reinforce threatened assets, etc. I can wipe out a starbase with one ship's fire power and that just doesn't strike me as very correct. If you play something like Star Trek, A Final Unity as I was able to with my father's help way back in my high school days, that game could honestly be called a Star Trek game. They had the actual actors from TNG doing the voices. The story and dialogue were excellent and so were the sound effects. The game play truly put you in mind of the shows and did honour to the concept of Star Trek. Even the strictly combat games like Star Fleet Command were done in such a way that you felt that the gameplay better reflected the kind of thoughts captains had to make while fighting battles. That kind of consideration is one reason why people can be so protective of their franchises. They honestly don't want their vision to be degraded by people who don't have a proper sense of what it is and a proper respect for it. Nintendo did a masterful job of quality control using such protective measures and did a lot to revive the video game industry after the crash in the mid eighties. One of the problems back then were that everybody was trying to get money from video games and were making poor immitations of original games. The market was flooded with inferrior quality games and people were turned off. We're certainly in no danger of a crash now. If anything, we face the reverse problem where there aren't enough different titles and genres covered well to pull in more gamers. I think time and effort from developers will eventually fix that and is doing that already slowly. Michael Feir Creator and former Editor of Audyssey Magazine 1996-2004 ___ Gamers mailing list .. Being able to build VB modules to save games etc would increase the complexity of Audio Games Maker, and really isn't feasable anyway. When a person saves games they reference all the objects in the game, and run binary serialisation to convert the data to a binary stream, and then write it out to a file. To load a saved game the process is reversed. The binary file is opened, and the serialised stream is written back in to the objects. I don't see anyway for VB, C++, or any other language being able to capture the objects in Audio Games Maker and write out a data file. The feature really would have to come with Audio Games Maker or not at all. Cheers. Re: [Audyssey] Future USA Games product designs.
Well man, it's up to you, but I say leave things as they are. Starting over from scratch sounds painful. You can always make changes for your upcoming games. - For an amazing video gaming site containing original soundtracks, game art, etc, go here. http://gh.ffshrine.org?r=16426 - Original Message - From: Thomas Ward [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Friday, January 19, 2007 6:29 AM Subject: [Audyssey] Future USA Games product designs. Hi everyone, As all of you know back in December 2006 USA Games made STFC 1.0 available for public distribution. What we did not anticipate prier to that release is how difficult it would be to get all users up to date running the .NET Framework and the current version of DirectX. For most users we were able to quickly resolve the issues and make STFC operate properly. However, there were a few cases which were without any hope of solving easily, and at this moment still remain open as unsolved cases of unknown error. Recently, on the Audyssey list I had made a suggestion that as a developer I should design a 3D engine similar to the Quake engine, but with all the access features built in. I'm thinking of starting over with the USA Games engine and instead of basing it on the .NET Framework and switching to C++ with the standard Windows win32 API and MFC which comes installed on every Windows system. Even better I can package MFC updates with my installer to update them were they needed. I see many advantages of this switch such as greater security, better performance of games, a wider availability of security tools to protect USA Games commercial games, and no dependence on the .NET Framework for any games designed under the new engine. The final reason I might consider this route is simply that C++ support for game devices, graphics, and sound is first rate. Since it is widely used by pro game developers there are often more features for DirectX available to a C++ dev than say for VB such as force feedback support for game controllers. The VB support for game controllers doesn't seam to work well with feedback devices as both Che and I found out the hard way. James north had created the initial Raceway engine in VB, and I won't be able to get ff device support using VB or VB.NET. However, in a language like C++ it wouldn't even be an issue. However, using C++ isn't going to be all roses. I've gotten a bit rusty with C++, and would probably take some time brushing up my skills, finding out what changes were made in the SDKs I'd need, and so on. Game production could potentially be slower since C++ isn't the easiest language to work with, and I'll admit can be complex at times. Certainly not a cinch like C#.NET is. Not only that it would take me quite a while to read through my engine code, and begin converting it from C#.NET to C++. On the other hand, I do have a good thing going with C#.NET. Other than the bumps in the road with end users not always having the correct versions of the framework etc games like STFC and Montezuma's Revenge are doing well. On a fairly modern system with all the latest service packs and patches those games should play reasonably well for the audio gamers community. I'd kind to hate to switch just when USA Games is beginning to get this show on the road you might say. There are some reasons about the .NET languages I am beginning to dislike such as having to encrypt my binaries every time I compile them for distribution, end users having mismatched versions of programs which causes conflicts, and a few other miner limitations. Otherwise, like I said, I am ok with what I am doing. What do you all think. Are you happy with the way USA Games is doing things, having to install the .NET Framework, etc, or would rather us move to something more generic like the C++ Win32 API which is pretty standardized across MS Windows platforms. I've been following this thread with much interest and I'm glad with many of your posts, both those filled with enthousiasm for our project as well as those questioning parts of it. Unfortunately I haven't got the time to reply all of your posts but I'd like to say a few things: First of all, Audio Game Maker is an experiment. Fact is that there is a bigger demand for audio games than there are audio games in existance. Another fact is that many people would like to have a go at making an audio game themselves but when faced with the challenges of game development, especially the the technical side to game development like programming, only a few brave souls make it. Audio Game Maker is intended as a solution for this problem and focus on the more fun side of game development, such as quickly turning your idea into a game. It is absolutely true that at some point you will have an idea for something in a game and that when you try to execute that idea in Audio Game Maker, you find that it isn't possible. In all of my experience with computers, I haven't encountered a single application where I couldn't think of something that would improve it. It's all the same for Audio Game Maker - there simply isn't an application which allows you to do everything. Not for game development, not for word-processing, not for audio-editing, etc. The only solution to execute your specific idea is to start writing your own game in code. Many people have already posted about this, so I won't press this issue. But I wanted to repeat it, since it makes all the difference in the world. So where does this leave Audio Game Maker - where you are (fact) limited in what you can build? I believe, even with the limitations of the application, that Audio Game Maker can contribute a great deal to the field of audio games. First of all, I think that 'limitation stimulates creativity'. Many ideas for audio games that I read here are based on existing games, with only a change of narrative, but which still incorporate the same game mechanics. Since Audio Game Maker might not feature the functionality that allows you to rebuilt exactly the same game functionality of another game so you are forced to either use a clever work-around or change your idea. And this might lead to an even better, more original idea which might even be more fun. Of course Audio Game Maker should allow you with enough functionality to get somewhere. But I think it does :) Audio Game Maker is also an experiment in the sense that it is the first time that something like this has been tried. So far I haven't heard of a similar project/product. I know about RPG Game Engine and Audio Adventure Engine and so forth (please see http://www.audiogames.net/page.php?pagefile=links under Audio Game Development Tools) but those focused on specific genres of games, so to say. Therefore it is still a big question what an 'audio game maker' should consists of (of which functionality). Time will tell and hopefully we can continue improving Audio Game Maker over the next couple of years. For this we do need your feedback, though!! Audio Game Maker is also an experiment in the sense that we don't know how it will impact the field of audio games. I hope that the community will see through Audio Game Maker's initial flaws and get their teeth in. I hope that many people will start co-operating on making games and sharing games. I can already tell you that Sander and I are already working on online game sharing community-functionality either for www.audiogames.net or to http://www.audiogamemaker.com . Kind of like YouTube, but then for games ;) . I personally don't think Audio Game Maker will put current audio game developers out of business. Instead, there will simply be professional games as well as home-made games, two categories that already exist for many years in this field. What is

[Audyssey] Great idea concerning the audio game comunity.
Hello all, A few days ago, I posted a link to the giveaway of the day site. Here it is for those that missed it. www.giveawayoftheday.com I have downloaded from this site myself, and it's absolutely amazing. Basically what these guys do is give away games and software free of charge. There's no piracy involved, as they pay the developers for the software. The software stays on the site for 1 day, then a new game and program is added on the next day. As if that weren't enough, they advertise the developers site for a few days. I think this is great news for the audio gaming community as it'll give us publicity and new games to play, while at the same time pay the developers for their work. What do you all think? This is exactly why I'm telling the gamers community. We can definitely make a difference here. Look at the software page though. they have some neat stuff on it. Re: [Audyssey] silly game idea
Lol. that's just hilarious. Killing robbers under the floor? Heh. How about the game has levels? Level one you have 10 robbers, 2 20, 3 is 30, and so on till level 20 or so. Of course the robbers get faster and faster. Once you complete all 20 levels, the boss comes after you. He throws different items like clipboards, papers, and the like which you have to catch in midair and throw back at him. Lol. Think I made the game even weirder now. - For an amazing video gaming site containing original soundtracks, game art, etc, go here. http://gh.ffshrine.org?r=16426 - Original Message - From: nicol [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Audyssey Blind gaming Gamers discussion list Gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Tuesday, January 30, 2007 1:37 PM Subject: [Audyssey] silly game idea HI all since the audio game maker project is going to kick in soon after the bartimious project have settled in after the fire, I thought of dropping a silly game idea which came in my mind. It happened all like this. One day at work my computer stressed me out completely because it was hanging up constantly. So I got totally beyond myself and I start banging my feet on the floor, something I won't normally do. One of my colleagues, normally when he wants to make me attentive to something, he would walk up to me, tap me on my shoulder and talk to me, he doesn't send me e-mails that often. So I got this formal e-mail message: Will you please stop banging your feet? I laughed at the formality of asking me. So I thought of a game idea. Your task is to kill enemies hiding under the wooden floor of your office. You kill them by banging your feet. Its robbers that hides under the floor. You get the following e-mail from your colleague unaware that you are killing enemies. Hi Will you please stop banging your feet? You are disturbing everyone that wants to work. At that moment you realize that you have to kill the last robbers before havoc breaks loose and that there isn't time to reply to your colleague. So you give your feet another few good bangs and before your colleague can drop another serious message he hears the death cries of the robbers. This game called foot bang is a nice point racker. Once you manage to kill 50 robbers you win the game. You have to bang your feet several times to kill each robber and if you are not quick enough, the robber comes out from underneath the floor and kills you. The game is self voicing and so no screen reader is required. If you are interested in making such a game it will be good to define the keystrokes so that control will bang your feet, and shift will speak your points. You will hear each robber's death cry . You will hear constant e-mail messages from your colleague asking you to stop banging your feet. Also if you don't kill all 50 robbers in time, your colleague will report you to your boss which will come into your office and dismiss you for causing havoc while you are suppose to work. Once that happens the game is also over. The voice speaking your score as you press shift and the voice reading your colleague's e-mail messages is 2 different voices. It would be nice if the voice speaking the e-mail messages can be an eloquence voice. Each e-mail message will become a more urgent request. But if you guyhs are going to try out creating such a game, you must really find or record a good foot banging sound. Give it a try once audio game maker is available. Audio game maker is not for me, I'm just not the type of person who have cold hard logic. But I'm leaving it for you guys. This is just a silly idea that came up in my mind when I received my colleague's formal polite e-mail request. ___ Gamers mailing list .. Say for instance I pick up an egg, and I hear the egg's ping sound and then at the same TIME THE VOICE SAYING ONE, two, ETC. IT WILL JUST HELP IF I want to improve on a score. If I know that I have picked up 40 eggs so far then I know how many I have to pick up to beat the score before the time runs out. Say for instance my score is 50 on a previous game and I want to beat it. It would just be more exciting if the voice can announce the number of each egg picked up. But the game rocks, its wonderfull that not only purchasable games is addictive, but also free games. Keep it up ___ Gamers mailing list .. One thing that immediately comes to mind is support for the new hd blue ray dvds. MS has already made a statement only Vista and later versions will support the new dvds, and will not be making the technology backward compatible with 2000, 2003, and XP. Overview Windows Vista is a totally new operating system, and is the first operating system to offer a fully 3D graphical operating environment Microsoft has named Windows Arrow. The new Windows Explorer can not only burn data cds and music cds it has been updated to burn data dvds, your home vidios and pictures to dvds, and with Windows media center you can play your dvds and edit media content. Windows Vista has an all new firewall which allows you to block all ports you are not using to prevent hackers, crackers, trogen horses, and other attempts to access your data and content remotely. Windows Vista comes with the .NET Framework 3.0, DirectX 10.0, and Windows Media 11, Internet Explorer 7.0, Outlook Express 7.0, Windows Media Center, and a bunch of other new stuff never seen before. In addition Windows Vista is the first and only operating system that supports the playing of the new blue ray high definition dvds that have just came out on the market in the USA. According to press releases from MS only Vista and newer operating systems will support the blue ray high def disk technology. Since .NET framework 3.0 is now a core component of the operating system rather than an add on Microsoft has bundled the managed DirectX 10 and Managed SAPI support for .NET enabled games and applications right out of the box. No extra software required. Good news for Monty and Raceway fans which are already using the .NET technologies as the core component of those games. Apparently Windows Vista has also intruduced some built in speech recognition into the operating system which allows you to voice dictate emails in Outlook Express, and other documents using notepad wordpad, etc.. I've read there is suppose to be some new features with Vista that allows you to interface with the MS XBox 360, and do some special things if you have an XBox as well. One other cool feature I read about is Windows Vista is installed from images rather than a triditional setup file so the os is litterally extracted on to your hard drive, and ran and configured from that point. Here is a general list of requirements for running Vista with Windows Arrow disabled which I think most blind users would likely wish to do. You need at least a 40 MB hard drive, 512 MB of ram, 800 MHZ processor, a dvd disk drive, and a video card that supports 3D axcelerated graphics. If you want all the really cool blue ray support and the Windows Arrow desktop experience we are talking a gig of memory and somethinglike a 1.2 GHZ processor, 3D graphics card, and so on. As a result a feature I liked was taken out. The new mixer I have only offers line in and microphone devices for recording. As far as restarting in dos, um, that has been gone for years. However, there is a command prompt Window which you can use to load older dos programs if they will run in Vista. I find using the automatic bolt gun helps in this regard as you can just hold down the fire key and strafe the room killing or wounding several monsters at once. hehehe, don't worry about it. Playing games is a great way to break a keyboard, plus they're cheap, so you can just go buy a new one. I've already broken both wired Playstation 2 controllers smashing buttons in Mortal Kombat. I dropped my wireless, so that's busted too. Gonna need to buy more controllers. I find it more often that sighted people sometimes doesn't understand blind people properly. The need to be educated how to understand and handle blind people. Something which really bothers me is that my mom thinks I'm wilfully breaking my keyboard. Sometimes when she visits me and I'm playing pipe2 and I'm hitting my control keys very fast to shoot the thugs, she will say: Be more carefull with your keyboard, son. Don't smack it. The more I try to explain to her that it's the way I play the game, the more she tells me: Its not necessary to smack the keyboard. Did you also experience it that sighted people think you are smacking the keys? What is the correct way of explaining this? I'm sure sighted people that plays games on a play station will also hit the joystick buttons hard if the enemies appears speedily. Sighted people need to understand that we are using our computers as play stations, to play games. If I'm in the middle of a battle especially with dark destroyer, I'm immersed into the game world. AT that stage I'm not thinking of it as keys on a keyboard that I'm hitting very hard, I'mimagining it as a gun I fire forcefully to kill the enemies more efficient. When I type a document for example then its wise not to hit the keys too hard, but in a game its something different. How can I explain this to sighted people that think I'm trying to break my keyboard? ___ Gamers mailing list ..
