Go back and read my email again.

What I said is that I was not going to take part in PMC level decisions.

People here really needed to look that up? :)

He may be a pain in the ass, but he's *our* pain in the ass.

No doubt here.

I admit that I have a history of being obtuse, but the above sequence of
words strikes me as particularly ironic. For those who care,

oh, all right, pretty much all of the time - is a pain in the ass. But it
is also important to realize that without him being exactly the way he is,
this little community that we all are a part of quite possibly wouldn't be
here.

And Tomcat 3.3 probably wouldn't have a ratified release plan or nearly as
many volunteers to support it. Nor would we be aware of the extent of the
overlap between the various subprojects.

Whether everyone here realizes it or not, we get a lot of benefit from Jon
being here. It just is a shame that more people don't take the effort to
return the favor sometimes.

You're not only a pain in the ass Jon, but an inconsistent pain in the
ass. What's the point in saying goodbye and then keep on posting?

I share your concerns on the current status of things in Jakarta land (and
on the overall foundation), and I'm getting really tired lately of endless
discussions and flame wars that always end up nowhere...

Also, my current personal situation (have to move back to Europe in a short
while), is preventing me to accurately follow everything that's happening
around here, I already backed up from a TON of projects (Cocoon, Batik,
Log4J and others) to concentrate on what I have to do now, the
Catalina-Apache web connector...

So, I think I'll follow you, and step back from my direct involvement in the
overall Jakarta/ASF stuff, until I don't get some more time to dedicate to
it (that might mean around May/June when my relocation to London will be
finally over)...

Thanks a lot for understanding...

Pier

I guess I was too oblique if even you didn't get my reference. There's
talk about creating a utility project which will contain a number of
components that aid in the development of Java server based solutions. My
point was that they were likely to simply reinvent something that we
already have, and pointed to a web site that contained the punch
line...dash being renamed to Turbine.

> I see a lot of discussion and very little coding.

At the moment this "general utility" subproject is just talk, and as long
as it remains there it won't go far.

But the real subprojects seem to be chugging along anyway. And perhaps
even starting to converge slowly.
