Subject: Graduate position announcement

Please help me spread the word--I am recruiting two graduate students to start
in Fall of 2018. My research group works on policy design to support innovative
governance approaches in US forest management. Recent projects have
investigated barriers and opportunities for increasing application of
prescribed fire in the West, governance challenges in Alaska in light of
fire-climate interactions, policy design to support collaborative landscape
restoration, and climate change adaptation policy and planning. Next year's
students could work on aspects of climate adaptation approaches in US forest
management or on community-based forest management in fire-adapted ecosystems.
I have 2-3 year funding packages for both positions with some flexibility on
topics. One position would be suitable for a PhD student, and both are
appropriate for MS students.

CSU is in Fort Collins-a great place to live and study natural resources. We
have a diverse and excellent selection of classes from across departments so
students can build a program tailored to their interests. There is an active
group of scholars and students who work on environmental governance, and a
strong graduate student community in our college.

I will be asking all prospective students for a statement of interest, CV, GRE
scores, writing sample, and completion of a grading exercise to assess
potential for teaching assistantships. Students, of course, also will have to
apply to our graduate school, and we can accept students after formal deadline
dates.

I would appreciate any help sharing this message with prospective students.
More information on my work and lab is available at the link in my signature
line.

Many thanks,

Courtney

[gep-ed] Postdoc position in Stockholm

2018-04-18 Thread aseem

Dear all,

Stockholm University and the Department of Political Science has a call out for
a two-year postdoc position with the project “The Great Green Transformation -
Politics, Markets and Civic Society in the Anthropocene (GREENTRANS)”. Deadline
for applications is May 2nd.

The project is funded by the Marcus and Marianne Wallenberg Foundation with
Professor Andreas Duit as principal investigator and Professors Aseem Prakash
(University of Washington) and Thomas Bernauer (ETH Zürich) as
co-investigators.

We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong background in
quantitative methods. A background in either environmental politics,
comparative politics, or policy studies research is a merit but not a
requirement. Additional merits include capacity to work in a cross-national
team of researchers and to communicate research findings to wider audiences
beyond academia.

See link for more information about the position and instructions for how to
apply: https://www.su.se/english/about/working-at-su/jobs?rmpage=job=4830=UK

I am happy to answer questions about the project or the position.

Andreas

[gep-ed] Environmental Studies at Wellesley summer school - REDUX

2018-04-18 Thread Beth DeSombre
Hi folks:

If you have environment-interested students who might want to be in the
Boston area this summer, let me recommend Wellesley's (co-ed) summer school.
One of our selling points is that all our summer courses are taught by
full-time Wellesley faculty members.

This summer in session I (June) I'm teaching my core social science course
ES/POL2-214 (cross-listed with political science): Social Causes and
Consequences
of Environmental Problems.

[EXTRA NOTE: I NEED THREE MORE STUDENTS ENROLLED OR THE CLASS WILL BE
CANCELLED. So if someone is thinking of enrolling, please send 'em our way
soon!]

And our fantastic professor Monica Higgins is teaching Introduction to
Environmental Science (with laboratory) -- ES 101 -- in Session II (July).

Both are highly recommended! https://www.wellesley.edu/summer

Let me know if you have any questions --

Beth
