Even ore because clicking the spot line (layer boundary, one-pixel wide line) is a bit difficult - but maybe it's just me. Re: [Gimp-developer] Point-and-click tool to create guides?
What would be nice is a manual entry box for moving the measure tool markers around (in the Tool Options for measure). This way you could type in the exact value(s) you want, and use ctrl-click and alt-click to make your markers how you like with better precision than the mouse pointer allows. Just a thought. -C On Mon, May 9, 2016 at 9:23 PM, wwp wrote: > Hello C, > > > On Mon, 9 May 2016 21:02:21 +0100 C R wrote: > > > This is also sub-function of the measure tool. > > To create a horizontal guide, place a marker on the spot, and ctrl-click > it > > To create a vertical guide, place a marker on the spot and alt-click it > > Nice too, thanks for the tip! :-) > > > Regards, > > > On Mon, May 9, 2016 at 8:54 PM, Alexandre Prokoudine < > > alexandre.prokoud...@gmail.com> wrote: > > > > > On Mon, May 9, 2016 at 10:47 PM, wwp wrote: > > > > Hello there, > > > > > > > > > > > > I wonder if the idea of a point-and-click tool to create guides could > > > > be a good one? > > > > > > > > The idea there is to directly create guides with a minimum number of > > > > clicks in order to speed up a production process. This is also sub-function of the measure tool. [Gimp-developer] Point-and-click tool to create guides?
Hello there, I wonder if the idea of a point-and-click tool to create guides could be a good one? The idea there is to directly create guides with a minimum number of clicks in order to speed up a production process. It is based upon my (long, subjective and perfectible) experience w/ the Gimp 2.x. The way of doing it could be, for instance: in one click you pick the create-guide tool from the side dock, then you click on the image: it creates a horizontal or vertical guide at this click's x or y - horizontal or vertical axis could be determined using ctrl or shift modifier. Clicking in the margin (outside the layer boundary) could be even more intuitive, up/down margin to create vertical guides, left/right to create horizontal ones, still for instance. While moving the mouse pointer with this tool, a "live" guide shadow could be displayed, in order to provide a visual clue about the guide location that you validate when you click to create it. As someone who down-scales a lot (and who expects workflow and defaults to change now and then when using development releases), I want to thank Øyvind for the new code. Downscaling with Cubic looks much better now (compared to the previous 2.9 behavior), and is much faster than LoHalo/NoHalo. This was a fix for the 2.9 series - any releases of 2.9 thus far have been development snapshots and you shouldn't be establishing unchangable workflows based on the behavior of development snapshots. The new behavior you will get from cubic and linear *resamplers* in GIMP master + GEGL master resembles what the stable releases of GIMP have been doing for at least the last half decade, whereas GIMP 2.9 for a while has produced the equivalent of slightly randomized nearest neighbor when scaling down with cubic and linear. Other things that might happen for 2.10 is lanczos being reinstated if *you (or someone you convince)* implement lanczos as a GeglSampler, and the nohalo sampler being dropped unless it starts having performance of similar magnitude to nearest/linear/cubic/lohalo. > I would ask you to reinstate the old code and have the new selectable > under a new name - then at least an existing workflow could remain > intact and the user would be made aware (a little bit at least) that > there may be something better available... Nope - won't happen. Linear and cubic resamplers should provide reasonable results - instead of a random broken thing, which is why I also implemented similar fixes to GIMP itself early in the 2.x series. If you've been blurring your photos before scaling them down with cubic to compensate for cubic being broken in 2.9, you should no longer be doing so. /pippin ___ gimp-developer-list mailing list List address:gimp-developer-list@gnome.org List membership: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-developer-list List archives: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-developer-list

The more you change the default behavior of existing filters the more it makes the use of GIMP impossible in a setup where you build up a workflow... It's bad enough to outright drop the previously available scaling algorithm but to tinker and thus in some cases invalidate existing workflows without the user being made aware of it is ridiculous for a tool like the GIMP... I would ask you to reinstate the old code and have the new selectable under a new name - then at least an existing workflow could remain intact and the user would be made aware (a little bit at least) that there may be something better available... regards Karl Günter Wünsch ___ gimp-developer-list mailing list List address:gimp-developer-list@gnome.org List membership: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-developer-list List archives: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-developer-list
Re: [Gimp-developer] Windows builds using MSYS2
Hi, I've also been working on building Gimp for Windows simply because for one reason or another I have Windows on my main, faster machine, and I've wanted to get some of the latest bug fixes. I also wanted to fix - https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=757717 I tried the Linux cross compile using the wiki Mingw64 instructions. I was trying to retrieve the prebuilt library RPM's from, I think it's OpenSUSE, but that seems to be outdated. Now I have Code::Blocks setup to cross compile with MinGW-w64, I’ll try building those dependencies. I'm investigating MSYS2. It looks like a good project and a lot of other projects seem to use it to provide releases for Windows, but its a slow to compile even with multiple threads set. Some of those projects may use Python so they might be able to help with Python for Gimp. I attach my current "autogen" and "make" outputs. I am building with most extras disabled as I just want to iron out the build process first. http://files.djbarney.org/autogen_output.txt http://files.djbarney.org/make_output.txt Are you building from the main branch ? Do you get a successful build with Python disabled ? Cheers.
