Printing to an older Canon

2000-12-03 Thread Dennis Kent

Recently I upgraded to Mandrake 7.2 and GIMP 1.1.29.
Everything is fine except that I can't print to my
Canon BJC 610. There are no drivers in CUPS or
Gimp-Print for any Canons older than BJC 1000. Has
anybody had any experience with this? It prints a
gimp-print header with some settings and then pages
and pages full of s8W-! . I can clear the print queue
and power the printer on and off a couple of times and
they still keep coming.

Anyone have any ideas?

Retouching photos

2000-07-08 Thread Dennis Kent

MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Using Gimp 1.1.24, Mandrake Linux V7, PIII/550, 128mb
RAM.

I have a black and white photo I shot of an actress on
stage. She feels that there is a slight double-chin
problem due to angle of the head in the shot. I have
done very minor retouching before, but I can't quite
get the handle on this one.

The double chin is slightly darker than the front of
the chin and the neck on either side of it.

I've tried using the burning-in tool to darken it
further and perhaps make it appear further back. This
shows some promise, but I'm convinced that it is the
way to go. I've also tried bringing in some of the
almost-black background where the extra skin is in
front of it to lesson the size. This might help but
it doesn't appear to be the whole answer.

There is a line-wrinkle across the whole neck were the
extra skin meets it. Perhaps cutting and pasting it
higher is the answer?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Printing

2000-07-08 Thread Dennis Kent

I found the answer to this on this list last year. I
didn't need it then, I need it now, though.

How do I get the Gimp to print? The 1.0.4 RPM and
source versions only allowed me to print to a file.
Same with the 1.1.24 I am using now.

Before, I eventually got one of the 1.0.4 versions to
print properly, but I can't remember how.

One of my major uses for the Gimp is to print out
postcards, so it is imperative that I get it working
again. I really hate the thought of booting windows
and using my old Corel Photo-Paint (although the Linux
version looks pretty good).

Printing multiple copies

2000-05-05 Thread Dennis Kent

Is there a way to print more than just one copy of a
photo at a time?

I'm using 1.0.4.

Thanks!
