Depending on what you're running now and what you're trying to do - you'll
probably need to upgrade quite a few things. I started with the redhat6.1
distribution and had to upgrade glib, gtk, Gtk-Perl, Gimp-Perl, PDL before I
could get 1.1.19 to build cleanly. This is not a simple or pleasant
experience, BTW - I would not do this upgrade on any machine running mission
critical stuff.

(FWIW, ppport.h comes with PDL-2.003 and Gtk-Perl-0.6123, but I suspect
you'll encounter more problems w/o a full lib upgrade. The INSTALL notes
might edify, in a convoluted fashion)

I did also have to add/upgrade to get 1.1.19 to build and install right.
Although, I'm using Redhat 6.2 and I only had to install Gtk-Perl and PDL.
I may not use some of the things that Gimp-Perl supplies, so that's why I
might not have noticed a problem with it. And although upgrading can have
tons of problems, it was rather straightforward and simple on my x86
machine. And my version of the gimp works great as far as I can tell.

I have installed the latest development
 version (1.1.19), with just
 /configure,make,make install...does
anyone know how much disk space
 that would take up?

depends on how much other stuff you have. du -k
where everythings installed, probably
/usr/local/share/gimp, /usr/loca/lib/gimp,
the space taken up by the personal gimp files in
your home directory and the source tree if you still
have it.

Another thing I've ben wondering...I've seen
numerous screenshots on the web, and GIMP had it's
colour pickers, brush, patern and gradient
buttons all on the right hand side. I have
them at the bottom, and I can't
find anything relevant in the preferences.
Is there a way to change the layout in this version?

that depends more on the window manager then anything
else. gtk does give hints but some wms respond better
than others. just move the windows where you want
them.

Finally :) I read somewhere that there was a GIMP
Hollywood project (I can't remember where I read
that though)...any more info about what that is
 exactly?

http://film.gimp.org its all stuff the gimp needs
but seems to be a dead project.

How to see the x,y coordinates instead of just the rulers?

2000-04-23 Thread Robert B. Easter

Other image manipulation programs I've used let you see the x,y coordinates
where the mouse is. When dragging to create a rectangle some will show the
x,y and the relative x,y of the start and the current mouse position in the
box being made. With gimp, I can only see the rulers which don't
give me exact coordinates. Is there a way to add a status line to an
editing window that will show the x,y coordinates?

The latest (unstable) versions have this feature.
