[Gimp-user] Convert PS USM settings to Gimp

2012-04-27 Thread Autoart
Thanks for the links Dan they are great sources. But none of them really
tells me about the relation between PS and GIMP USM settings. Myself, I
usally set radius 10 , amount 0.5 and threshold to 4 and play with the
values around those defaults a bit until I am happy, but it would be
interesting to see if someone actually knew the relation between PS and GIMP
USM.

I have never used/seen Photoshop so don't know the ratios between PS and GIMP
USM.

What are the ranges for Photoshop ie Gimp's are
Radius 0.1-120
Amount 0-10.00
Threshold 0-255

Once we have this then we can convert the PS settings and see if they look the
same in Gimp.

Sven,
Yes I haven't found any direct conversions yet, but in the meantime
here is a page that is a great article in that the guy compares how to
use USM in Gimp, Photoshop, and ImageMagick, which I only came
across lately via Linux and mobile development research I was doing:

http://redskiesatnight.com/2005/04/06/sharpening-using-image-magick/

That's a good one. I was going to write to him and ask him something
about his site, but I'll also ask about the usm conversion.

Re: [Gimp-user] 2.8 rc1 on XP

2012-04-27 Thread Richard Gitschlag

That's a separate topic, but ... I'm trying to update and expand a script-fu
that I created years ago in GIMP 2.4, and after several iterations of
test/tweak/refresh scripts, 2.8.0-RC1 just up and crashes.

By now, it's also my first script-fu that actually needs to query what version
of GIMP it's running on before operating (I wish I was making that up).

What issue have you had related to reloading Script-Fu scripts from inside
 GIMP?

[Gimp-user] GIMP question

2012-04-27 Thread brad stevenson
hello,

have been using gimp or a short time and am looking for some help.
i am trying to design thank you cards for multiple people using a picture and
text.
i am trying to save a 'template' design with the picture and the bulk of the
text, hoping to then be able to reopen the project and edit the text to change
the name for each card.

i have tried save as template but when i open this through new image as
suggested in the help section it only opens with the outline shape, no pictue
or text.
when i save the image normally it flattens the image and i cant open just the
text box to edit the text.

is there a way i can do what i want to?

Apologies if this is quite basic and covered somewhere, but I havent found
anything to help.

Cheers

There is a table in the article referenced above which suggests that
radius and threshold are the same in Gimp and Photoshop and that amount
in Gimp is one hundredth of that in Photoshop.

Save your template file as .XCF format (GIMP's native file format).

That will preserve things like text layers.

Then open your XCF, make needed changes, and then 'Save As...' or
'Export' to the format needed for printing.
