1) how to select a part of photo to edit it?

With the selection tools, like Rectangle Select, Ellipse Select etc.
In our [online help] you find all the answers you need.

2) how to place something like a fuzzy glass to cover a face?

With one of the filters, i.e. Glas Tile, Cubism or GIMPressionist
could be your friends. Perhaps you also find something suitable in the
[GIMP Plugin registry].

3) how to remove the unwanted parts of a photo?
( example, there is a person in a room, how to remove all the
background(furnitures), but only keep the person in the photo)

There's a tutorial:

http://docs.gimp.org/2.8/en/gimp-tutorial-quickie-separate.html

4) where is the liquify filters, I can not find it in the filters list.

In the Distorts filter group use the IWarp filter.

Kind regards,

Sven

Re: [Gimp-user] Windows Installer - 64 or 32 bit?

Hello to all,

I am new to this list (but not so new to Gimp). I will hold a photo and
video editing seminar tomorrow where I will present Gimp as an
alternative to Photoshop.

There has been only one precompiled Windows Installer for Gimp ever
since and I wonder whether it installs a 64 bit or a 32 version of Gimp
- or just chooses the adequate (?).

The program's Help info is of not much help in regard to this issue.
32 vs. 64 bit software seems to bee a big issue under Window at the
moment and will surely provoke questions tomorrow. So could you please
enlighten me?

Greetings from Germany
Wolfgang Hugemann

Asked and answered, the Windows downloader pulls the one needed if I
read Jernej's post right.

No, you read that wrong. The installer from
http://www.gimp.org/downloads/ contains both 32 bit and 64 bit versions.

There is no downloader.

Re: [Gimp-user] Why GIMP adding white line to PNG?

Today I converted a client logo to a Web png in GIMP. Simple blue text on a
transparent background. Although the GIMP original shows nothing but
checkerboard around the text, each time I exported a png, it ended up
with a white line across the top. After some tinkering, I stopped it from
doing that by making the canvas slightly taller. Possible reasons? (Tried
Google but find anyone else w/same prob.)

In a few similar cases, users have found that the image size and the
expected size in the html code where it was used were different, and
that caused the error.
