GNU Cash Transactions - Wiped Out
Greetings I have been using GNU Cash and processed transactions for 12 months. Today when I opened the Program all my processed transactions have been wiped out / disappeared. All balances are now ZEROS. How can I recover my processed transactions? Help will be highly APPRECIATED. Recording in KRW, Reporting in USD, Budgeting in USD
Hello everyone, I've been reading the forum and resources online, but I can't seem to find a situation that matches mine. I work for a human rights NGO in Seoul, South Korea, so all of my transactions are in KRW. That is, except for our USD drawdown payments from one of our donors in the US. I've been using GNU cash to record all our expenses and keep a balanced book, but I'm looking to make some progress on budgeting and reporting. Our budgets for each account are set at the beginning of the year by our donor, and we need to report quarterly in USD. I use a weighted average formula to make sure that our KRW amount matches the USD amount so at the end of the year we spend within the USD amount. So basically, I'd like to be able to *1) see my regular KRW transactions alongside their value in USD (set to the weighted average rate)* and *2) be able to set my budget in USD*. Up to this point I've just been keeping a KRW record and then manually applying the USD exchange rates to find out how much we've spent in USD. There must be a better way! I've found two possible solutions, but I'm not sure if they're workable and would greatly appreciate the community's input! 1) Record all transactions in KRW, export reports to xml, find a way to get the xml to display in excel and apply exchange rates there. Drawbacks here are that I can't see my budget or spending in USD live, without a time consuming process. 2) Set my default currency to USD and apply my updated exchange rate at each transaction. The downside here is that I have no easy way to see my data in KRW, which I need to report for Korean taxes etc. My first post is an essay, so thanks if you made it this far. Glad to join the community! -Scott -- Sent from: http://gnucash.1415818.n4.nabble.com/GnuCash-User-f1415819.html ___ gnucash-user mailing list gnucash-user@gnucash.org https://lists.gnucash.org/mailman/listinfo/gnucash-user - Please remember to CC this list on all your replies. Re: Removal of unnecessary listed Account names
Where are you seeing the multiple account names? If you actually changed the names in your chart of accounts, there should not be accounts with the old names. Similarly, in the OFX, QIF and CSV imports, you should not see the old account names when matching transactions to existing. You will need to re-train the bayesian matching. Hi, I changed the YahooJSON module to use the new API variables and the new URL. It is attached for anyone who wants to test. It's not a very clean code, it's just an adaptation. Upper/lower case matters. It looks to me that symbols of the form QzzzRX are the new(er), public pseudo symbols associated with TIAA-CREF funds that existed in the days when the only quote source was TIAA-CREF themselves using internally generated pseudo symbols (like CREFstok, CREFequi, TIAAreal). For the funds that survived the TIAA-CREF explosion of choice, Finance-Quote still uses the original pseudo symbols to look up the 6-10 digit numeric fund ID that FQ now feeds to TIAA’s data server to get current quotes. [And then FQ reconverts the return data, which uses the newer symbols, to match the old style pseudo symbols.] Somewhat inefficient, but it does maintain compatibility for gnucash users with long-term data sets. The real estate fund may be the only one that kicks this up. All of the other older funds have split into multi-class families [(R1), (R2), and (R3)], with even relatively small schools getting their old (R1) funds upgraded to lower admin cost (R2) and (R3) units. All the newer ticker symbols that start with Q have something other than R as the next to last character. Re: F::Q 1.40 uploaded
Do you really have a semi-colon at the end of your api key in the environment file ? If you’ve set it up in the environment file you shouldn’t need to set it up in the system and user environment variables also as I think Gnucash over-writes these values with what you have in the Gnucash environment file. Also you don’t need to set it up as both system and user environment variables unless the user variable you want to use a different value for a user for some reason. Removal of unnecessary listed Account names
Gents After a couple of weeks using GnuCash I made a mistake and renamed some of my accounts. In fact in most cases just changed the name from low-case to upper-case so that I could easily identify the headings. What's happened now is that when I import new data and begin to match the incoming sub accounts with mine in GnuCash I now have two sets of headings to sort through, one in upper-case the other in lower. The issue also appears when manually inputting or changing a transaction; In my case the dropdown list in account shows, one name in upper-case the other in lower. Is there a way of deleting all the lower case account headings to make the importing of data easier. I do recognise that this is a short term issue as over time the accounts will automatically match the headings correctly but it is a bit of a pain at the moment. I've not been able to find any related information in your support documentation. Any assistance would be much appreciated. Bank reconciliation
I imported transactions from my bank using "import ofx" which has populated an account called "Imbalance-GBP" with various transactions. One of the transactions represents paying in three cheques we had received as payments for ads from three different customers which the bank lumped together as one transaction. >From googling I had come to the conclusion that I should set up a temporary >holding account (Account type: Asset), have that transaction pay into said account and then make three different transactions to Assets:Checking Account and use them to pay the invoices. However, when I (using the right click menu option while viewing all transactions in said holding account) assigned these transactions as payments for the invoices the transaction was moved to Accounts Receivable automatically and moving it back (by editing the other end of the transaction in Assets:Checking Account) causes the invoices to become unpaid. Clearly I am doing something wrong, quite possibly by not even using the right solution to begin with and I don't think banging my head against the problem/google any more will be productive, what should I do? In short, what is the proper way to handle the case where a single paying-in transaction needs to be reconciled against several invoices for multiple customers? We try to encourage people to pay electronically, then none of this happens, and in future if we can not find a solution to this we will ensure that cheques are paid in individually, but we need to handle these historic transactions. Data can be stored in xml or SQL. The SQL storage security is up to the provider: mysql, sqlite, postgres. XML is in plain text, so you'll need to secure it physically or using your operating system. Re: Currency Quotes
Yes, I was looking at the F::Q Currencies.pm, unfortunately I’m not proficient enough in Perl to do that confidently. Alphavantage also has a the separate API for currencies which will be more efficient because it only returns the current exchange rate (vs this daily history for stocks), e.g.: $ curl "[https://www.alphavantage.co/query?function=CURRENCY_EXCHANGE_RATE_currency=GBP_currency=USD=XXX](https://www.alphavantage.co/query?function=CURRENCY_EXCHANGE_RATE_currency=GBP_currency=USD=XXX)" This API call also works for Crypto Currencies, e.g.: $ curl "[https://www.alphavantage.co/query?function=CURRENCY_EXCHANGE_RATE_currency=BTC_currency=USD=XXX](https://www.alphavantage.co/query?function=CURRENCY_EXCHANGE_RATE_currency=BTC_currency=USD=XXX)" It just happens that ‘function=TIME_SERIES_DAILY’ with ‘symbol=GBPUSD=X’ also returns currency exchange rates for daily history, e.g.: $ curl "[https://www.alphavantage.co/query?function=TIME_SERIES_DAILY=compact=GBPUSD=X=XXX](https://www.alphavantage.co/query?function=TIME_SERIES_DAILY=compact=GBPUSD=X=XXX)" Which allowed gnc-fq-dump to work. -A. Updated Finance-Quote to 1.44; GnuCash still not retrieving quotes
Hi, After experiencing the same Yahoo-related issues retrieving stock quotes has many others in this group, I upgraded Finance-Quote to version 1.44. So this, on it's own, didn't fix the issue, but I'm confused about how GnuCash uses Finance-Quote. In GnuCash you need to select the quote source. After upgrading F::Q, setting the GnuCase quotge source to either of "Australian Stock Exchange, AU", or "alphavantage" or anything else does not work. However, if I run F::Q using a simple perl script (below), it works fine... #!/usr/bin/perl use Finance::Quote; my $q = Finance::Quote->new(); my %data = $q->fetch('ASX', 'NAB'); print "NAB price is " . $data{'NAB', 'price'} . "\n"; So what source is F::Q using by default and how can I set this in GnuCash? I'm running GnuCash 2.6.17 on Ubuntu 17.04, installed using the getdeb repository. I'm mostly interested in stocks on the ASX.
