In what sense is this a "reconciliation error"? Reconciliation is the
process of comparing your records with the bank's records, and dealing
with any differences. One class of difference is when your records show
a transaction, but the bank's records do not show that transaction. That
transaction is left unreconciled. Another class of difference is when
both your records and the bank's records show a transaction, but the
details (e.g. the amount) differ. That transaction gets corrected in
your records, or flagged as a bank error, or something.

In this case it looks like your records omitted a transaction from June,
and you just now see it in the bank's records from August. Have you
reconciled your records with the bank's records from August yet? If so,
you should have noticed the transaction in the bank's records. If you
have not yet reconciled with the bank's records from August, then now is
the time to correct the discrepancy.

…What's the best way out of this?
First, validate that the bill is valid, that the vendor did issue it,
and that it was correct to pay it. If any of those are not true, start a
dispute about the error. If they are true, then create a bill in your
records dated in June, and record that it was paid from your bank
account in August. You got two month's worth of float. Congratulations.

[GNC] Invoice tax bug in GNUCash 4.13?

2023-01-29 Thread Etienne
Hello,

I noticed that when I enter a discount my tax amount is off.
It seems that GNUCash 4.13 calculates the tax on the item price and ignoring
the discount amount.

I enter an invoice with:
quantity: 1
item price: 169.95 (sale price including taxes/VAT)
discount type: $
discount how: > (so the discount is after tax)
discount amount: 17.00
tax included: X
tax table: German VAT (19%)

I then get:
subtotal: 125.82
tax: 27.13

So they add up to the discounted price of 152.95.
However the correct subtotal should be: 128.53 and VAT/tax should be: 24.42

I tried different settings, like <, = and no tax included.

Also, when I enter the price excluding vat (so 142,82) then the tax is still
off when applying a discount.
Only when adding the discount to the price and skip the discount column, then
it calculates VAT fine.

Is this a bug or intended use?

Thanks.

Re: [GNC] Is this a wacky idea?

2023-01-29 Thread john
Like us PortableApps is using SourceForge only as a download site. The source
code there is 8-10 years old. There's newer source at
https://github.com/PortableApps, some of which seems up to date but mostly not:
The GnuCash package at
https://github.com/PortableApps/AppConfigs/tree/master/G/GnuCash is 3 years old
and for 3.6; that's not what's offered at
https://portableapps.com/apps/office/gnucash_portable. I can't find any source
at all anywhere for https://portableapps.com/download. The launcher at
https://portableapps.com/apps/development/portableapps.com_launcher says 2.2.3
but what's at was last updated 2 years ago and the last tag there is 2.2.

What's in the GnuCash package files is a bit lacking as well: It contains
configuration information for their platform, things like directory locations
and registry keys. There's no build information, no dependency information
(other than environment variables for AQBanking and Gwenhywfar versions), and
no indication of what runtime it uses. If it all works OK for you then no
problem, but the GnuCash community may not be able to help with problems that
aren't clearly inside GnuCash. Be sure to read
https://portableapps.com/support/gnucash_portable#known_issues, though it's at
least partly out of date: The Microsoft update linked in the Network Drives
item 404s.

John Ralls

2023-01-29 Thread Stephen
I agree with Fred Bone's comments about the portable version. You might
be clicking on some ad-driven thing or maybe going far afield.

I think you are not getting to the right website to download portable
Gnucash. There is one site on SourceForge "brought to you by Rayven01
that seems pretty HINKY. It promotes a very old version of GNC, has no
reviews and no recent downloads. No way to know if this is where you are
getting your spammy dating site or monthly charges "offers" or not but
you surely have a problem somewhere along the line. If this is the SF
site you are on I would WALK AWAY!

It could be possible that you have a browser or host file problem
perhaps that is redirecting you somewhere bad?

re: Portable Apps -- on SF you can dl the actual PortableApps platform
which provides a launcher for lots of apps under the PortableApps
umbrella. I don't use it.

What I do use is the latest portable version is
GnuCashPortable_4.13.paf.exe which can be found at
https://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/ and then navigate to the
Files tab then click gnucash portable (dated 2022-12-24) click then
navigate down the page to the PAF file you want.

As an option to using portable versions one can use Revo Uninstaller
which will uninstall a standard install of Gnucash reliably. Or I use
Revo Uninstaller Pro (paid) which will track an install and allow a very
thorough uninstall.

I didn't see a way to decline. Frankly, I would be fine with a more modest

And I can't see a way to be offered such a thing ...

I go to portableapps.com.

There I see a large green "button" saying "Download Now - Free". I click
it and get a page headed
"Download PortableApps.com Platform 23.1 - Free App Store & Menu"
with another green "button" saying "Download from PortableApps.com". I
click that and the resulting page autostarts a download.

(I cancelled that because I already run PortableApps for a couple of
things and it will update itself anyway next time I run it).

Yes there are several ads on the page, but there's no compulsion to click
on them.

[GNC] Is this a wacky idea?

2023-01-29 Thread flywire
Anyone can run https://portableapps.com/apps/office/gnucash_portable in
Windows without installing it. It is probably better than installing
GnuCash on your computer. It also allows you to install a dev version on
your computer without messing up the working version.

I still think you would be better to just run the reports and give them to
your accountant as a searchable pdf or html. No, the links don't work after
they have been exported but it's normally just a matter of referring to
another report.
