KGTS does it yet again with "OSTAD TIATRIST"

Versatile Jose Rod honoured

The unique concept of felicitating the yesteryears stars of Konkani stage for
their contribution to the Tiatrist Fraternity is what Kuwait-Goa Tiatristanchi
Sonvstha (KGTS) stands for. With the last two mega musical super hit shows in
Kuwait, they did it again with the grand success of "OSTAD TIATRIST" - a
tribute to Konkani Tiatr and Tiatrist, which was a sellout. Staged at the
Hawalli A/C auditorium on 24th February 2006, this much awaited annual event
saw the cream of the Konkani lovers among the audience. At the commencement,
one minute silence was observed in respect of the late Amir, Sheikh Jaber Al
Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah. Paying their respect to this great leader of Kuwait,
the audience with the organizers observed a minute silence. KGTS started the
show by playing Kuwait's National Anthem. This was followed by a chit-chat
with a flow of yesteryears Tiatrists' songs as well as depiction. Legendary
star Late Anthony Mendes shot to fame with his solo song "Taxi Driver" decades
ago, and this time his sons, the Mendes Brothers, Felix-Xavier-Derrick
performed it as a Trio. Remembering their father's contribution, Felix Mendes
appreciated and thanked the KGTS members for inviting them to perform for
their grand musical show. Felix also extended their well wishes and pledged
support to new upcoming stars. Apart from the the Kuwait-based stars who
performed, a galaxy of artistes from Bombay and Goa were flown specially for
the 3rd Grand Musical show in Kuwait. Joe Rose, Comedian Augustino Temudo and
Comedian Domnic Coelho, S.Lemos, Francis de Tuem and Trio Kings of Goa:
Joaquim-Junior Rod-Anthony dazzled the audience in their spell binding musical
journey of the golden era of Tiatr. The comedy skits interspeared between the
songs. Songs from Francis de Tuem on Goa's mining industry was well applauded
by the audience so was the Trio Kings songs on the political scenario in Goa.
Trio kings are hardcore composers with political and social topics. They are
very famous for their bold lyrics and widely expose the flaws of the Goa
government through their songs. Their trios "Dr. Verenkar", " M.Boyer"
and "Parrikar" were well applauded. Comedian Domnic and Comedian Agostinho's
performance kept the audience laughing till the very end.

The appearances of the majority of the KGTS members including Manuel de Santa
Cruz, Tony Carr, Clara, Domingos Araujo, Zorro, among others, in different
song sequences and scenarios was well choreographed with appropriate light
effects and music by a team of youngsters led by well-known musicians Maestro
Succorro de Melo.

The main attraction of the show was the leaflets (popularly known as
Handbills) of yesteryears Tiatrs that were on display on the left side of the
stage, and the right side of the stage was occupied by the musicians. This
unique collection dating back to 1950's was provided by Brazinho Soares of
Santa Cruz (Goa) to KGTS. The stage set-up suited for the musical show, the
decor as well as light effects added charm. The opening song by KGTS President
Francis de Verna, KGTS members Junifer Rodrigues, Donald Colaco and Cajetan de
Sanvordem highlighted the significance of the title of the musical "Ostad
Tiatrist".

Heartthrob of Konkani stage Jose Rod in his song "AMIG" paid rich tributes
to "Bab Peter". Jose Rod was felicitated at the hands of Xavier Mendes for his
tremendous contribution. With tears of joy, a surprised Jose Rod thanked all
his fellow KGTS colleagues and fellow Tiatr lovers for honour bestowed. The
compere announced that this was a well guarded secret by the KGTS until the
event unfolded. Mario de Majorda was at his best with his hilarious laughing
pills along with Comedian Nelson. "Palkacho Divo" a tribute song to one of the
senior artistes - Anthony (of Trio Kings fame) by the newly formed trio Katty
de Navelim-Simon Gonsalves-Joseph Rodrigues was well composed sung. At this
junction, Anthony was escorted on the stage and he congratulated the composer
and singers. Such was his liking of the song that Anthony will have it added
in his Konkani VCD which will be shortly released in fond rememberance of his
Trio singers – Late Conception and Late Nelson.

KGTS which was formed in 2003 and has organized Musical Show in Kuwait for the
last 3 years including this year, the proceeds collected is given to Goan
Dramatists on Konkani Stage who are often old and forgotten. This is one
generous way of telling the senior and retired Dramatists that KGTS together
with Konkani Tiatr lovers in Kuwait cares for them and that their contribution
is not forgotten by the new generation. Gracy Morais "Cheddum", Joe
Rose "Bubli Bubli", "Goenchim Antique Ghoram" and "Jaisi Jaisi", Anthony
Carr "Goa", Zorro "Kazar Zatam", Donald Colaco "Upkar", S.Lemos "Rakhno
Bhurgo" and "Kiddo ani Mathi", Junior Rod "Kid Boxer", Francis de Tuem "Young

[Goanet] Government of India has an online grievance forum

2006-03-02 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Government of India has a online Grievance forum at
http://darpg-grievance.nic.in/

The government wants people to use this tool to highlight the problems they
faced while dealing with Government officials or departments like Passport
Office, Electricity board, BSNL/MTNL, Railways etc.

I know many people will say that these things dont work in India, but this
actually works as one of our colleague in CSC found. The guy i'm talking about
lives in Faridabad. Couple of months back, the Faridabad Municipal corporation
laid new roads in his area and the residents were very happy about it. But 2
weeks later, BSNL dugged up the newly laid roads to install new cables which
annoyed all the residents including this guy. But it was only this guy who
used the above listed grievance forum to highlight his concern. And to his
surprise, BSNL and Municipal corporation of faridabad was served a showcause
notice and the guy recieved a copy of the notice in one week. Government has
asked the MC and BSNL about the goof up as its clear that both the governent
departments were not in sync at all.

So use this grievance forum and educate others who dont know about this
facility. This way we can atleast raise our concerns instead of just talking
about the 'System' in India.

the official script should be the Kadamba script. Lets hear more from the

[Goanet] Don't be alarmed

2006-03-02 Thread Santosh Helekar
Don't be alarmed, but the fact is you are getting old.
You are hurtling towards the end of your life. At that
point the show is over. The lights are out. The
darkness is out. Don't expect any kind of an
afterlife, a rebirth or a reincarnation. You won't be
a ghost that would haunt anyone. You won't be a spirit
that would continue to inhabit some eternal
netherworld. You won't merge with any kind of
universal consciousness. This world and all others
would have finally gotten rid of you in the universal
trash bin. You would be a mere memory in the minds of
an insignificant number of people who would be
temporarily left behind. In a short time, they too
would be mere memories.

So, if you are feeling too happy or sad, fortunate or
unfortunate today; if you love or hate yourself too
much, ponder what I just wrote. Then take a lot of
pictures and videos of yourself, and archive them in
safe locations. Make some audio recordings of your
voice, your laughter, and all the other sounds you
make. Archive them, as well. Start writing in your
free time about yourself, about your thoughts and
feelings, and about your personal philosophy.
Save multiple copies of your writings. Post any that
you wish to share with us in this forum. They would be
archived for posterity.

So go. Don't waste any time. There is not much left.

Cheers,

Santosh

Hi Cornel & Joe,

A few months ago, I commented on a piece of news
posted on this forum, in which a PWD engineer
commented "as long as water comes from the pipe, who
cares about its quality?", with respect to water
supplies in Goa.

No wonder the outbreaks of jaundice and other nasties
when the water supplies get polluted with effluent
from rusted or broken pipes deep underground.

(Pipes which were laid in the 50s must have come to
the end of their useful working lives, given that
these pipes carry water only for a few hours a day,
with the rest of the time spent in oxidation back to
their natural state of iron oxide.)

If you have seen the various "rats nests" of wires and
cables at arms reach, some of which are "live", in a
number of offices in and around Goa, it is just luck
that there's not more electrocution incidents taking
place.

Regards,

Gabriel.

[Goanet] How seriously do Catholic Goans take their religion?

2006-03-02 Thread cornel
I have invariably noted how seriously many Goans take Catholicism not only in
Goa but also in the Goan Diaspora. And at a time when Muslim radicals have
embarked on angry demonstrations across the world about the Danish cartoon
depiction of Prophet Muhammad, I note reactions in the West which have tended
to say that, the Muslims take their religion too seriously.

In a largely secular UK, the anger of some current Muslims is seen as
rather "over the top" regarding the cartoons. There is also a feeling that
the troubles are fomented by people with their own private political agendas.
Nevertheless, the media here have emphasised strongly the importance of free
peech whilst also emphasising the importance of sensitivity to other people's
religious feelings.

In the light of my comments above, I wonder how seriously Catholic Goans take
their own religion and how sensitive they are to a quote below by a
controversial but respected commentator of many years (Julie Burchill), to
quality papers like the Times, Independent, and the Guardian? She has
invariably been irreverent about religion generally, but now suddenly claims
to have a need to take a sabbatical from journalism to study God and theology.
Yet, despite her sudden Damascus like conversion to Christianity, she has been
particularly critical of Catholicism. She has, like many others, deemed it to
be strongly and unnecessarily based on a guilt complex among its adherents. On
January 24, 2004, in the Times Newspaper, she said, "Even before the current
plague of Papist paedophilia became public knowledge, I was instinctively
repelled by the idea of Catholicism--usually the religion of choice for over-
worldly writers who have come to believe that too much knowledge is a bad
thing. It has always struck me as an incredibly dirty-minded religion, seeing
sex everywhere instead of just the few places where sex created by God, of
course, actually is."

Clearly, this post is likely to set the cat among the pigeons but generate
useful commentary and controversy on Goanet. Hopefully however, there will be
sober and reasoned responses which deal specifically with ideas rather than
with personal attacks. Hopefully too, the Archbishop of Goa and his entourage,
with their own website, will also engage in this wished for debate on Goanet.

Nowhere in the report is there any reference to the "hidden agenda" which
Churchill is accused of by Luizinho. The only hint of it might be in the
allegation by Francisco about his concern for the "interests of south Goa".
What Francisco himself overlooks is how the "feasibility" of Mopa can be
achieved without taking into account the working of Dabolim and the
consequent right-sizing of Mopa in this connection. These form the crux of
the whole matter and nobody seems willing to address them.

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/articleshow/1434639.cms

Unhappy with 'service', business to fly economy

Imposition of a service tax on international business and first-class air
travel is likely to see many executive-class passengers opt for the economy
category, more so in the short-haul.

Business and first class international fares are 3-5 times higher than
economy fares. With airlines in no mood to absorb the tax, it will further
widen the fare difference business and economy-class travellers.

A day after the Budget, it is still unclear whether the tax will be imposed
on the full list fares or the discounted ones that airlines offer to
corporate travellers.

This may even force airlines to change the seat-mix between business and
economy seats in international flights, say many in the industry. Generally,
30-35% of all seats in a flight are allocated to business and first class
categories. >>

[Goanet] Ophidophobia

2006-03-02 Thread Cecil Pinto

Dear Ms. Lancaster,

You admit that during so many of your visits to Goa you have never
encountered a snake except in with a snake charmer. Why should it be any
different when you reside here permanently?

The monsoons make no difference to the snakes. They can't hear and so they
don't know its raining.

Jokes aside though, please understand that snakes are virtually unheard of
in urban areas, and even in the rural areas sightings are very rare.
Specially in modern homes with RCC structure and roofs and cemented and
plastered laterite / brick walls. In older houses they are sometimes, very
rare, cases when a snake crawls in and causes a scare but there are local
'snake catchers' who can deal with this and they will catch the snake and
release it back into its natural habitat.

Despite not being able to hear snakes are sensitive to vibrations. So as
long as they can sense that there's a lot of noise in a particular place
they will give it a wide berth. Just have a rave party every few weeks.
That should keep all snakes at bay. Or else invite me and my noisy family
over on the occasional weekend.

Cheers!

Cecil

Hi
For some time now my hubby and I have thought about buying an apartment in Goa
and trying to move out there to live.
My main fear however is the snakes, scorpions, etc. I have one helluva phobia
about snakes. I have been told that snakes can come into your homes in the
monsoon season and if this is the case then our plans for a lovely future are
scuppered before we even start.
I know this could be true about rural Goa but could you please give me an
honest answer to this.
If we had an apartment in the residential area, ie where the shops, etc are,
and didn't stay on the ground floor, what would be the chances of us
encountering snakes in our home or on the main streets.
We have been on holiday to Goa many times and luckily, so far, only snakes I
saw were with snake charmers so I could give them a very wide berth.
I would dearly love an honest answer to this query and would very much
appreciate it.
Many thanks
Yours sincerely

Joegoauk
As I don't have your real name, I hope you will not mind my using the term
above.

I noted the sad case of electrocution of the priest when using a mike and it
made me wonder why this happens, not irregularly, in Goa/India? Is it that
there is no adequate earthing (the earth wire use)? I recall getting a nasty
electric shock in a reasonable hotel, next to the Centaur hotel in Bombay,
by the airport once, and another at another hotel in Delhi. On both
occasions I merely touched a switch for a light to come on. Since then I am
wary about any electrical connection when in India, and especially AC noisy
machines, which come to life as though they might explode when switched on!
My sincere question is why does this happen in India and seemingly nowhere
else where I have travelled extensively?

Another point worth making is that the sancharanet server barely works when
used from here. I have been forced to send my unreached email messages by
postal delivery to make sure the recepient gets them, not just once, but
several times! So once again, I ask, what on earth is going on in an India
which is supposedly at the cusp of economic supremacy?

An expensive clock I purchase in Margao gave up the ghost six months later.
It was unrepairable at this end and had to be thrown out. Also, a suitcase
and a pair of sunglasses fell apart in next to no time.

An Indian gentleman I met in Canada recently, and who produces concrete
pipes in Mumbai for his family firm said that, the concept of quality is not
something Indian firms understand or are concerned about! Is this true?

I accept that there is quality work done on the software front and the
health front because otherwise, India would not have been able to develop
health tourism to the extent it does nor get so much software development
from outside firms. Nevertheless, I believe I am expressing some genuine
concern as dispassionately as possible and when quite seriously wanting
India to do well as a global power and hopefully, beat the hell out of some
Western nations which have it good for too long.

A young priest (30) of the Kalambadevi Satpurush Devasthan, Poira-Bicholim
died of electrocution while holding mike on last Sunday.

As the deceased, Guruprasad Sridhar Barve from the same locality took the
mike in his hand to call upon villagers and the musicians on the dais,
received an electric shock and died on the spot.

Bicholim police registered the case as an accidental death.

Just holding mike one can die ? or is it possible powerful current pass
thru the cable from amplifier ?

I am worried, I too hold mike several occasions (as NRI chief guest etc).

It reminds me of a bollywood movie 'Disco Dancer' where it was arranged
i.e. electric current thru electric guitar to finish the hero 'Mithun

Can any one comment on this please ?
I can't sleep now a days.

I read it on all 3 Goan English Dailies (thanks to charter flights express

HOUSTON: While United States favourability ratings have plunged in many
countries, Indians are significantly more positive about the US now than
they were in the summer of 2002, a new opinion poll has said.

The 2005 Pew Global Attitudes survey found that 71 per cent of Indians

President Bush in handling world affairs.

What mostly attracts Indians is that America remains a land of
opportunity despite its booming economy today. Asked where they would
recommend that a young person move in order to lead a good life, a 38

In brief, the above statement talks about the message from the Archbishop's
residence [ NOT from the Archbishop himself but, according to some
sources, by a priest working there.] to the Parish Priests not to read a
notice sent by the DKA for the courtesy of announcement. [Such notices from
institutions and clubs are routinely read in churches for information].
Inspite of the confusion more than a thousand people gathered at Azad Maidan
[The first rally of KPA had only 32 persons].Catholic priests not only
attended the rally but also addreeed from the stage erected at the venue.
This was the victory, said Tomazinho.

" As long as Konkani in the Roman script is used in our churches, till then
it is absolutely wrong to state that the Archbishop and the Catholic Church
in Goa does not support Roman script for Konkani" said Tomazinho Cardoz.

"The good news is that in a short time from now, the Old Testament of the
Bible will be published in Roman script with an expenditure of about Rs.70
lakhs." Need anything be said about the importance of the Roman script for
Konkani in our religious interaction?
..

The issue is clear. The confusion needs to be cleared from the minds of
those who are confused by the conflicting signals coming from the lower
echelons of the clergy at Paco Patriarchal, Altinho, Panaji. Unauthorised
use of the Archbishop's office is abuse of the trust that the laity reposes
in the clergy. The Rachol Seminay teacher who took the oath for "one
language, one script, one community" at a public forum on 12 February, 2006,
needs to explain whether he speaks for himself or pretends to speak for the
church or the Roman Catholic communityin Devanagri. Fortunately, he did
not wear his cassock for the event.

Viva Goa.

[Goanet] Churchil has hidden agenda, accuses Faleiro

Churchil has hidden agenda, accuses Faleiro
Webindia123.com
Panaji | March 02, 2006 4:45:22 PM IST

Accusing South Goa MP Churchil Alemao of having a "hidden agenda" for
his opposition to the Mopa international airport, Goa Industries and
Education Minister Luizinho Faleiro said the former's act was tantamont
to party "indiscipline". Reacting to Mr Churchil's decision to organise
"awareness campaigns" on the airport issue in different constituencies
to the embarrasement of the respective Congress legislators, Mr Faleiro
said such campaigns have no meaning since Prime Minister Dr Manmohan
Singh has appointed a six-member committee to study the issue. As a
member of the committee, Mr Churchil should have discussed the issue in
the meetings instead of in the open, Mr Faleiro said.

Party president Sonia Gandhi, in her recent address to the party
workers, had advised them to shun indiscipline, he pointed out. Mr
Faleiro said the Central Committee was appointed at the instance of the
delegation led by him to the Prime Minister. Asked why he had not
favoured disciplinary action against Mr Churchil who is embroiled in the
"cash-for-query" scam, he said, "Let no opposition party take advantage
of the situation. It is for the party president to act." Meanwhile,
Assembly Speaker Francisco Sardinha said, "I am for retaining and
strengthening the Dhabolim airport but not against the proposed Mopa
airport." If the committee was in favour of the Mopa airport and assured
its feasibility, there was no question of objecting to Goa having two
airports, he said. "Showmanship on the issue of Dhaboloim airport does
not work," he said adding he would also meet the people of his
constituency to explain them about the need for Dhabolim.
Mr Churchil has been demanding retention of Dhabolim airport, now under
the control of the Indian Navy, and against the proposed international
airport at Mopa in North Goa saying the latter would affect the
interests of South
Goa.

He has also threatened to quit the party, if necessary, to agitate
against the Mopa airport although he is one of the six members of the
Central Committee, which includes Chief Minister as the chairman and two
other Members of Parliament from Goa. According to sources, Churchil
proposes to quit the Congress and join the United Goans Democratic Party
(UGDP) in the wake of the stigma of the sting operation by a media
group.

Congress feels the heat Churchill kick-starts Dabolim drive today

BY HERALD REPORTER
MARGAO, MARCH 1 — The political climate in the Congress stronghold in
Salcete-Mormugao belt is tense with Churchill Alemao kick-starting his
pro-Dabolim movement from Vasco and an equally determined Congress
leaders gearing up to ward off any possible damage to the party in its
bastion.
Even as the MP has announced its first meeting in Vasco on March 2,
followed by meetings in Navelim and Curtorim next week, the
undercurrents could be felt in the Congress camp with party
heavyweights discussing strategies to meet the emerging situation.
Even Congress MLAs and workers appear caught in a tight spot on the
question of sharing the dais with the Alemao-led Save Dabolim Action
Committee. In fact, the Congress camp appeared a cautious lot given
the people's sentiments on Dabolim and the political damage the issue
can cause to the party, especially if the agitation takes the form of
a political movement as widely rumoured in political circles.
Knowing well that any laxity in meeting the situation could cost them
dearly in their bastion, Congress heavyweights — Speaker Francisco
Sardinha and Industries Minister, Luizinho Faleiro — along with MLAs
are planning to put up a united front to prevent any damage to the
party.
Incidentally, Sardinha has accepted the gauntlet thrown by the Dabolim
Action Committee by accepting the open invitation to attend the
meeting convened by Alemao at Curtorim on March 9. In fact, the
Speaker would want other party MLAs too to follow suit and clarify the
Congress stand on the issue.
"If someone wants to make the airport as a forum against the Congress,
I feel these meetings can offer a platform to explain the Congress
stand that Dabolim will remain forever and ever," he asserted.
On the other hand, Industries Minister Luizinho Faleiro was
categorical in saying he would not share the platform with leaders of
political parties opposed to the Congress. He, however, says the
Congress would unitedly respond to attempts made to misguide the
people and erode the party base.
Herald understands the Congress leaders are also planning to turn the
tide against Churchill. For instance, one senior leader sought to
question Alemao's absence when the party delegation called on the
Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, Party President Sonia Gandhi and other
Union ministers.
Moreover, another Congress heavyweight said the ball now lies in the
court of Alemao and the two MPs, who are part and parcel of the
Committee constituted by prime minister. "Instead of making it an
issue, Alemao should deliver the goods as an MP by convincing the
Committee to protect Dabolim airport," he said.

[Goanet] Goa and the making of Poverty

2006-03-02 Thread Cecil Pinto

Goa and the making of Poverty
By Jason Keith Fernandes

The image of Goa Dourada, a golden Goa, under Portuguese colonial rule
belied a grim reality; a reality of crushing poverty and cereal shortage,
where agriculture could not sustain the population anymore. A population
at times subject to the cruel whimsies and depredations of its feudal
classes. Little wonder then, that its population migrated in droves when
the opportunity to migrate to British India and beyond opened up. In the
process they created the financial basis for much of the prosperity that we
commonly associate with Golden Goa.

Today in Goa we find ourselves in the thrall of another dazzling image,
that of Goa as the ideal state of the Union. A Goa which can offer the
perfect setting for a middle class lifestyle and standard of living, a Goa
whose time has arrived. It doesn't give me much pleasure to pop that
bubble, but I do feel obliged to play Jeremiah, the prophet of doom since
this image of Goa is perhaps no more tenable than that of the colonial
'Golden Goa'. The image is superficial at best and ignores the manner in
which poverty is being systematically created in Goa. A poverty that does
not rely on attracting out-of-staters, but is determined to create
home-grown versions.

I know that these are not merely the wild fantasies of a madman crying out
in the wilderness because it played out before my eyes in bizarre
starkness. Preparing for the inauguration of the Hi-Tech Park at the hands
of Sonia Gandhi, the stone rubble wall to a field on Taligao plateau was
broken down in three places. Where the local peasants had for years grown
ladies-finger, marigold, radish, tambdi bhaji and paddy, a road roller now
stood flattening the land. Before it, under the blazing sun stood labourers
destroying the little bunds of the fields, while in the swirling dust
kicked up by this work the peasants themselves scrambled to collect the few
dry stalks that remained in the fields they once cultivated. It could have
been a scene out of a movie on colonial India, because they did not know
what was happening and why. 'Why take the field to build a transformer?' a
toothless old man, dark from being burned in the sun asked me. If
helplessness in the face of governmental action needed a face, I found it
in the blankness of his face and in the face of the women who with some
amount of hopelessness pointed out that they had no other income but what
they got out of the field.

The field does not belong to them, they merely rent it every year, which is
why they apparently don't have a legal right to the livelihood it generates
for them. But isn't this the classic example of poverty? Where one does not
even own the land on which one works? In our haste to create the knowledge
economy in Goa, are we providing an alternative employment for these people
before we embark on creating more employment? These peasants of
Nagali-Taligao already lost their grazing lands on the hill, since an elite
residential locality now occupies most of it, now they loose the land on
which they draw the food that quiets the fire in their bellies. This marks
not just the making of unemployment but the creation for the basis of
desperate poverty. Goa's morality was outraged when it heard of the
situation in Saleli. The situation in Saleli made some sense since Saleli
does lie on the periphery of the Goa we most often focus on and obsess
with. But this outrage against the lowest in Goa's society is taking place
not in some far flung, difficult to access part of Goa, but at its very
heart. In Tiswadi, in Taligao, barely minutes from the Goa International
Centre.

Golden Goa was about every Goan also having his and her fish, curry and
rice. Rather than look at it as a glorious cultural statement I would urge
you to look at it as a cuisine forged in poverty. The only food available
to a person who had nothing was the food one could forage from around their
house. Rice from the fields that one cultivated, fish that one could get
free from the water bodies around the home and coconuts from the trees
around the home. What is happening in a very concrete manner in Nagali
Taligao is to remove from these Goans the fields which provide them their
meager sustenance, the ecological safety net that Golden Goa once provided.

Was it Gandhi who asked us to think of the face of the poorest man we saw
and evaluate our actions on the basis of what it would hold for that man? I
don't want to think of that man's face, for in his vacant and blank eyes, I
saw only certain erasure. When Sonia Gandhi inaugurates the Hi-Tech Park,
what will it mean for the peasants of Goa and those who are not already
middle class? A case of Control-Alt-Delete?

[Goanet] RE: Ground work on expressway takes off

2006-03-02 Thread Philip Thomas

If at all 'what' comes up - the Mopa airport or the expressway?! If Mopa
is scrapped will the expressway also stand cancelled? Will Churchill object
to the expressway too since it will help North Goa capture hotel business
hitherto 'monopolised' by the south? Ensuring that Dabolim civil enclave
continues is fine. But there should be no parochialism in the overall
