[Goanet] Support Sanad Edamaruku

2012-05-17 Thread Marshall Mendonza
The below poster has made it a habit of embarassing himself on public
forums when he sermonises on subjects of which he has zilch knowledge,
little insight and no awareness. One can only forgive him for he knows not
what he is talking about.

Regards,

Marshall

*One Goanetter has recirculated repeatedly these libelous unproven
allegations over and over again in multiple Goan forums.*

* Another Goanetter, indeed ?a Goanet Administrator has made his own
libelous allegation in this public forum providing a YouTube video in Hindi
that does not back his false allegation.*

*Now just like any specific individual that Sanal Edamaruku might have
personally libeled, Sanal himself has a good case for filing a defamation
suit against the above organization and individuals.*

*Cheers,*

Re: [Goanet] Support Sanad Edamaruku

2012-05-17 Thread Santosh Helekar
If GA* Noronha wants to defend his opposition to the abolition of a blasphemy
law in our secular democratic country, and support the prosecution of Sanal
Edamaruku under that law using trumped up charges, then he has to respond to
the following substantive posts of Selma and mine with a substantive argument
of his own.

http://lists.goanet.org/pipermail/goanet-goanet.org/2012-May/221741.html
http://lists.goanet.org/pipermail/goanet-goanet.org/2012-May/221745.html
http://lists.goanet.org/pipermail/goanet-goanet.org/2012-May/221747.html

Trying to distract people with useless diversionary tactics such as pointing
out all the adjectives and nouns in someone's post does not cut it, especially
when he himself has to use his own nouns and adjectives in writing his response
- words such as "brouhaha", "television spectacle", "crucial", "national
debate", "bait", "multireligious", "Partition", "raking up a controversy",
"misuse" and "smirking".

An administrator of a secular public forum has to encourage debate and
discussion on topics that, not just he, but others find important. The world
does not revolve around the likes and dislikes of one Goanet Administrator.

The answers to all rhetorical questions the GA* has posed below are as follows:

>
>What was Edamaruku really saying in the discussion?
>

Please see -

http://lists.goanet.org/pipermail/goanet-goanet.org/2012-May/221770.html

>
>Should such claims of "miracles" be the centre of such a big brouhaha, made
>part of a television spectacle, and treated as if it is a major issue for
>national >debate?

>

Yes,  for the simple reason that freedom of religion, freedom of speech,
separation of religion and state, and scientific temper are the most important
principles in our country's constitution. They are major issues in our national
debate. Indeed, I would argue that all the political polarization and communal
conflicts we see in India today is primarily because religion and religious
beliefs are given too much importance in the public sphere, instead of keeping
them personal and private family matters. The eradication of all discriminatory
laws that give special privileged status to fanatically religious people of any
religion would be in the best interest of all citizens.

>
>Or is this just an attempt to bait people on the basis of their beliefs?
>

No, because if this were true then there would be such a debate every hour on
the television every day, considering the number of harmful beliefs that people
of all religions hold and practice in India on a daily basis.

>
>In a multireligious country like India, where politics and religion have been
>so throughly mixed since Partition and before, should we be raking up a
>controversy over >295A, or just over its misuse?

>

We should be speaking out loud and clear against the blasphemy law. Please see
the above answers and the following post for reasons:

http://lists.goanet.org/pipermail/goanet-goanet.org/2012-May/221747.html

Indeed, I submit that there is no controversy about eliminating this law among
secular-minded people. There is a broad consensus. Even in Goan forums it is
only GA* Noronha, and perhaps, one other guy who is opposing its abolition.

Cheers,

Santosh

[Goanet] A STRONG AND STURDY LOKAYUKTA NEEDED TO RESCUE GOA

2012-05-17 Thread SOTER
Marshall,
We hear a lot about Uttarakhand Lokayukta shinning. Does any one know the
salient features of the bill? Can any Lokayukta subjugate the corrupt mind? Mr.
Lalu Prasad's speech on 60 years of Indian Parliament makes a lot of sense.
Today the SC website is hacked and what is the message flashing?

COMMENT:

This was my day (especially as it is pouring out here like the Goa
Monsoons) to do a similar but more fruitful written project. BUT, a
few points attracted my attention. Some of them are in tandem with the
'Sanal Edamaruku' matter which I hope to respond to my good and
learned colleague, Santoshbab sometime on the weekend.

This post relates to the above Naguesh Bhatcar post and to the Goa
Chronicle link he directed attention towards.

1: That birth and other certificates are subject to forgery in Goa, is
a well known fact.

2: I have seen 'dates of birth' being modified even because of a
"numerology" diktat from the grand-parents. I have refused to fudge
the "dates of immunizations" to correlate with the new "dates of
birth"even IF it meant losing the 'business" of those clients.

3: I understand that a number of Hindu births were not registered at
birth (unlikely to have been in Goa, - because of the "dreaded
Portuguese", except by way of error post 1961 possibly because of
the work load and poor enforcement of laws). Affidavits revealed the
dates of birth.

4: Accordingly, I have no problems believing that the date on any
birth certificate (in question) could have been and was modified.

5: That having been noted (and I have to probably read this again) I
have problems accepting the following - as it relates to the cricket
issue which followed a decade+ later: This is "as per Salkar" - as
reported in the Goa Chronicle link provided by Naguesh.

a: Dr. Ravindra G. Chodankar was duty bound to give within 14 days
from the date of birth, the information of the birth of the accused
Ganeshraj Narvekar to the Registrar for the Panchayat area of Village
Panchayat of Pilerne

b: "Dr. Ravindra G. Chodankar failed to do the same and rather
SUPPRESSED the said information from being given to the Registrar
without any reasonable cause.

6: The good Dr. Chodankar ."SUPPRESSED" ? (Perhaps he had
clairvoyance 15 or so years ahead )

7: I also have NO problems accepting that individuals in power, (be
they Politicians, Police, Priests, Sadhus, Imams,Soldiers, Doctors and
other Bosses - married or brahmachari) will sexually harass and even
molest/rape those who are in a vulnerable position)

8: However, I do have particular difficulty with this entry by a
pseudonym (Aggie) on the Goa Chronicle: 2011-09-21 15:20;

c: He is a number one bastard. He raped SS in 80's and 90's.

9: Whatever our personal disgust of a politician or another, I have
special concerns with the Name of the Woman being displayed along with
the words "raped in the 80s and 90s".

10: Let alone the imagery the words "raped in the 80s and 90s" provide
us . and possibly the woman and her family, Did the young lady
even accuse Mr. Narvekar of "rape"? And are "we" not ABUSING HER now?

11: So, what do we do in our attempt to "Better our Goa"
.Maliciously or Negligently upgrade the allegations from Sexual
Propositioning +/- Sexual Harassment TO Sexual Molestation to RAPE?
Bravo !!!

12: I wonder IF any legal liability for defamation of the woman lies
with Goa Chronicle for continuing to carry that "Aggie post" .

All this is fine. Narvekar (like a lot of others) has politicised
sports badly in Goa. The only problem is that the "changes" we now see
smack of a continuation of the same politicisation trend here. What
happens when some other dispensation comes to power in Goa? We will
keep hearing how wonderful it is and how terrible the "old guys" were?

There are too many adjectives and loaded words to stick to serious
debate here: bogus, anti-secular, antiquated, blasphemy, libelous,
hate-campaign, propaganda organisation, falsely named, biased,
propaganda newsletter, incite hatred, sectarian, religo-politico
(activists), libelous, unproven (allegations), libelous
(allegation), false (allegation).

With the intention of allowing anyone to do an Edamaruku on me, I'd
say the more crucial issues here are:

* What was Edamaruku really saying in the discussion?
  Please see the ones below:
  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfJ6_ftih0s&feature=related
  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nl9pCma4C5E&feature=related

* Should such claims of "miracles" be the centre of such a big
brouhaha, made part of a television spectacle, and treated as if it is
a major issue for national debate? Or is this just an attempt to bait
people on the basis of their beliefs?

* In a multireligious country like India, where politics and religion
have been so throughly mixed since Partition and before, should we be
raking up a controversy over 295A, or just over its misuse?

Personally, I felt even those taking part in the televised debate fell
to the bait offered by a smirking Edamaruku. I won't oblige the same
here :-) FN

Re: [Goanet] Outlaw the medieval blasphemy law

2012-05-17 Thread Santosh Helekar
The YouTube videos below show clearly, and in his own words, that Sanal
Edamaruku wanted to debate only about the fake miracle claim. He repeatedly
insisted that this was his only purpose in being on that TV program. But the 3
or 4 people who were shouting him down and issuing threats against him wanted
to force him to express his personal opinions on all their other religious
beliefs, unrelated to the fake miracle. They were deliberately provoking him
and leading him into offering and debating opinions that would, in their
estimation, "hurt the feelings" of people like them. They even brought in a
lawyer to provoke him to express and defend his personal opinions in public.
The latter is an illegal tactic called entrapment that is used by rogue law
enforcement officials and unscrupulous lawyers to manufacture a crime, and
prosecute an otherwise innocent person. Please see:

http://www.lectlaw.com/def/e024.htm

In the present case, it seems to me that they were manufacturing "evidence" to
file the blasphemy law suits against him, and engage in the kind of religious
hate propaganda campaign against him, that we have witnessed.

So the specific intimidation, provocation and entrapment seen in the videos
below clearly demonstrate that there was nothing gratuitous about what Sanal
said. The following claim of GA* Noronha is therefore a libelous false
allegation:

QUOTE
In the case of Edamaruku, whom Selma wishes to convert into a free speech case,
he starts off by questioning the "miracle" at Mumbai (fair enough, but is this
localised event such a serious issue as made out to be?) and then goes on to
gratuitously critique a belief system, its centuries old wrongs or perceived
wrongs
UNQUOTE
GA* Noronha

As far as I am concerned, the only thing that I found objectionable on Sanal's
part is his demand for the Archbishop to be willing to stand in the witness
booth in a court of law to defend his religious beliefs, however false and/or
unscientific they may be.

Cheers,

Santosh

Muscat (ISM) in Darsait on Saturday night. The parents and the board

members got into a heated argument over the hike. The BoD meetings on April

2 and April 15, too had witnessed similar situations.

Parents are demanding that the management reconsider its decision on the

hike, bring in transparency in administration of schools and improve

infrastructure.

“They have agreed to discuss the issue and extend the last date for payment

of fee at ISM and have also agreed to show audit reports to parents,” Reji

Lal, a parent, told Muscat Daily.

The last date for fees payment ISM was May 15, while a meeting between the

school management and parents was scheduled on May 16. After the parents

brought this to its notice, the BoD agreed to extend the last date by

another few days

Anant, a parent said, “It is not just the fee hike. There are many issues.

They are not transparent, have not hiked teachers' salaries as claimed and

have scant regard for parents’ views.”

[Goanet] Prime minister will discuss Dabolim land issue with Navy: Chief minister

2012-05-17 Thread Gabe Menezes
Tweet

Dabolim: Prime Minister Manmohan
Singh has
assured that he will take up with the Navy the issue of transfer of 2.52
acres disputed land for the expansion of Dabolim airport, chief ministerManohar
Parrikar said
on Tuesday. The dispute is between the state government and Indian
Navy
.

"I have raised the issue of disputed land with the Prime Minister and he
has agreed to take it up with the Navy. Now Navy has to agree to transfer
the land," Parrikar said. "Once the letter goes we will follow-up daily,"
Parrikar added. The chief minister visited Dabolim airport on Tuesday to
review the 400-crore expansion project of the new airport terminal.

The state government has handed over 9.3 acres of land for the airport's
expansion and the alignment of the national highway was shifted by 90
meters so as to not disturb the airport's expansion.

Asked whether Dabolim airport would be closed once the proposed airport at
Mopa becomes operational, Parrikar said, "This is a 500-crore project and
it is considered as a profitable one. Goa government has spent 100 crore
directly or indirectly and is anyone a fool to spend so much money to allow
it to close?" He added that Dabolim airport will be upgraded such that one
wouldn't even consider abandoning it.

Parrikar also said that if the land is transferred to the airports
authority of India (AAI), the new terminal could be utilized more
effectively.

He said the current capacity of the airport is 700 passengers at peak
hours, but it is now handling 2,200 passengers an hour. This means it is
handling three times its capacity. "The new airport will handle 2,750
passengers; it will have improved facilities for immigration and parking,"
he added.

Parrikar also said Goa has crossed the passenger traffic projected for 2020
and Dabolim's expansion will help the smooth handling of passengers for
another 10 to 15 years.

He added that the government will assure
AAI that
adequate parking space is provided at the airport.

*Somplolea Tiatristancho Ugddas – TAG to remember Tiatr Artistes of Yester
years*

The history of Goan Tiatr dates back to 1892 since then the tiatr stage has
produced many versatile actors who served this noble profession with great
dedication and humility. Since July 2011 Tiatr Academy formulated a
scheme *‘Somplolea
Tiatristancho Ugddas’*, a monthly programme wherein the tiatr artistes who
are born in that month and are no more living are remembered. This month’s
programme will be held on 21st May 2012 at 4:45 pm at the Conference Hall
of TAG, Block A, 2nd Floor, Campal Trade Centre, Campal Panjim. The
artistes who are born in this month are Ermelin, Cruz Jazzwala and
Mossulini Vales de Menezes.

*Ermelin:- *

Known as “The Mary Pickford of India’ and also ‘Sudhabala’ in the film
circle Ermelin Cardoz was Born on 7th May on the beautiful island of Divar.
She began her career as a film actress at the age of 17. She has acted in
more than 40 films produced by India’s well known film producers like
Prithviraj Kapoor and was a popular name in the Silent films on the Indian
Screen. She was married to a great Konkani playwright and tiatr director
Saib Rocha who was one of the pioneers of Konkani drama and has staged 46
different Konkani dramas from 1916 to 1946. He was the one who brought
Ermelin on the tiatr stage. She not only acted in the tiatrs of Saib Rocha
but also in the tiatrs produced and directed by other versatile tiatr
directors such as A. R. Souza Ferrao who cast her in his tiatr ‘Almam
Sorgar Vetat’. As a human Ermelin was a very jovial person who captured the
hearts of not only her audience but also whoever came across her.

*Cruz Jazzwala *

Baptista Cruz Noronha popularly known as Cruz Jazzwala among the tiatr
lovers was born on 3rd May 1910 at Siolim. At the age of 12 he was
composing songs and also taught the village girls and boys to act in Khells
and Zagors. In the year 1921 he came to Bombay to pursue his further
studies. At this time he got an opportunity to present his own play in the
Goan Institute Hall. Thereafter late J. P. Souzalin introduced Cruz in one
of his tiatr. He was also given female roles and Cruz did justice to the
roles offered to him. Soon Cruz started getting offers from all the
stalwarts of tiatr like Saib Rocha, Anthony D’Sa. Souza Ferrao, Minguel
Rod, etc.

Anther exemplary quality which Cruz possessed was composing Goan folk songs
(Mandos and Dulpods). Cruz recorded his mandos on HMV Records which became
so popular that some of his mandos are still being sung today. One such
mando which is very popular among the Goan masses is ‘Mhozo Poti Mombaim
Gela’. He was also a musician and could play trumpet, violin as well as
guitar. For this reason he slowly switched on to giving music for tiatr
rather than acting and singing on the tiatr stage and thus became a regular
band leader for all the tiatrs and other functions.

*Mossulini Vales de Menezes*

Mossulini Menezes was not only a playwright and tiatr artiste but also a
renowned freedom fighter of Goa who fought fearlessly to free Goa from the
clutches of Portuguese rule. Born on 8th May 1924 Mossulini hailed from
Tivim, Bardez Goa. He was also a social worker and had love for education.
He was responsible to get a property for the Agnel Ashram fathers at
Assagao where a technical educational complex is coming up. Some of his
famous tiatrs are ‘Raoji Rane’, ‘Padrichem Bondd’ and ‘Martyr de Cuncolim’.
Since he was a freedom fighter his tiatrs were basically influenced by the
freedom movement.

All tiatr lovers are requested to attend the programme.

[Goanet] LOKAYUKTA BILL

2012-05-17 Thread John Gomes
I cannot understand Advocate Satish Sonak wanting amendment to the Lokayukta
bill before it is implemented. The President has once again approved the bill
and it has to go to the Governor once again!ANY AMENDMENT NOW WILL ENDANGER IT
GETTING CAUGHT UP IN PROCEDURES. The CM wants to implement it as soon as
possible. We have good retired goan judges, any one of whom fit the bill.
After implementation and watching the practical problems in Goa,amendments can
be made regarding appointment, giving teeth where required etc. The Lokpal bill
will probably not include the Lokayukta which will be the States perogative. Of
course we the people will have to ensure this happens! We cannot afford any
further delay.

[Goanet] Goa Special Status - Let's take to a Higher Level

2012-05-17 Thread Arwin Mesquita
With reports that the Centre has rejected Goa's genuine demand for Special
Status to preserve our identity, we now need to take this to a much higher
level in a civilised manner. The Central Government needs to honour the
promises made to Goa by the then Government in 1961. It was Liberation from
the Portugeese we were told, and NOT Liberation from the Goans. Taking to
the higher level should include Mass PR Campaign
State/National/Internationally which should also mean getting all
documentation/facts Nationally & Internationally eg. United Nations
Documents and Resolutions then to push our case. The Central Government
will be mistaken if they think they can continue to take Goans on a ride,
on this very important requirement for Goa and Goans!!

Subject: [Goanet] Portuguese Wines for export with prices

Dear Importer

We are looking to establish an export of Portuguese wines to your area and
would like very much if you would consider our products to include with your
inventory.

We are willing to give exclusivity of all our products, which also includes top
quality virgin olive oil, for either your area or your country depending on the
volume.

Attached are the catalog of the wines and also a price list and some of the
awards received.

Portuguese Wine Production

Portugal has long been a world leader in the production and export of wine. Of
Portugal's eleven major wine regions, the Douro is by far the most significant
to fine wine production. But another more modern success story in Portugal has
to do with simple, sweet ros  table wines that are sold under brand names like
Mateus and Lancers. Although the heyday of simple roses may have passed, they
remain popular worldwide and between these wines and Port, account for roughly
70% of Portuguese wine exports.

What is unique about Portugal is the very large number (upwards of 500) of
indigenous grape varietals. Even most wine experts are unfamiliar with the
grapes that produce Port, Madeira or any other Portuguese wine. Older vineyards
are planted with multiple grape varietals and as a result, sometimes these
field blends are so varied that identifying all of the grapes isn't possible.
When new vineyards are created, single plantings are now the norm. As
modernization continues, Portugal is proving that in spite of a long history of
contributions it still has undiscovered potential.

REPEAT THE...

A woman (Ritin) goes to the doctor (Dr. Fernando), beaten black and blue. . . .
.

Dr. Fernando: What happened?

Ritin: Doctor, I don't know what to do. Every time my husband comes home
drunk, he beats me.

Dr. Fernando: Hum, I have a real good medicine for that.

Ritin: Oh really, what’s it Doc?

Dr. Fernando: When your husband comes home drunk, just take a glass of
chamomile tea.

Ritin: Chamomile tea? Then?

Dr. Fernando: As soon as your husband enters home, start gargling with it. Just
gargle… gargle and gargle….

Two weeks later Ritin comes back to the doctor and looks reborn and fresh again.

Ritin: Doc, that was a brilliant idea! Every time my husband came home drunk, I
gargled repeatedly with chamomile tea and he never touched me.

Dr. Fernando: Here you are! keeping your mouth shut helps!! repeat the dose
please!!!.
