[Goanet] Panjim this evening
To Goanet - I didn't go to the Carnival parade in Panjim today. Instead I went for a spin around the city later and stopped by the Panjim jardim. There was a music show in progress ringed by food stalls etc. The atmosphere was marvellous. Elegant and deeply civilized. None of balle balle Indian hooliganism. No sign of the paan-spit bhaiyya brigade. It was mostly a Goan crowd and the few bhaile were well behaved. For the first time in several years Panjim exuded a good vibe. It should have occurred to everyone present that nowhere else in India could this kind of evening be possible. We Goans must do everything to keep it that way. r

To Goanet - After I posted about the Panjim jardim festivities I came to know that they were sponsored by the Ashok Beleza mega-project coming up right now across the river form Panjim on the hillside in Reis Magos. It appears prima facie to be illegal. There is another similar huuuge project going on right now in Dona Paula. I have repeatedly asked why these two projects have been allowed to proceed by this administration. No answers have been forthcoming. Now to Ashok Beliza. He was allegedly present at the inauguration ceremony of the BJP govt in March 2012 in Campal. None of the otherwise vociferous Goan hacktivists seem to be interested in questioning this project. This is Aldeia de Goa version 2, and this time the eye sore will be visible from all across Panjim. If you thought that Tata ugliness across in Betim was bad enough wait until this atrocity is up and running. Thus far there has been NO DIFFERENCE whatsoever between this administration and the previous Rane-Digu gang in the matter of curbing the construction frenzy in Goa. r

With the help of library workers they removed all smoke detectors by keeping outer covers intact.It is alleged that the ‘maintenance technicians’ worked in the Central Library from 12 p.m. to l 5.30 p.m. on that day and removed all the devices, which were carefully wrapped in plastic bags, from installation points. They decamped with `7 lakh worth booty under the nose of security personnel and library officials.The library officials came to know about the theft on February 8 when a smoke detector failed to function after a person was found smoking in the library.

One of the highlights at Goa Carnival celebrations 2013 is the 'Samba Square' at Jardim garcia de Orta, Panjim. The muncipal garden came alive at the opening night on 9.02-2013 with some sizzling latin music by Belinda and the Tropicanos, Zezinho and Latin Connection and Blue Wave who turned the park into one huge party zone.
