[Goanet-News] Is the Goa police botching up the case against Tarun Tejpal? (Mid-Day)
Is the Goa police botching up the case against Tarun Tejpal? Two days after stating that they had already examined the CCTV footage and booked Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal for rape under the Criminal Law Amendment Act, Goa's DIG (Crime) calls a hurried press conference to claim the hotel's elevator had no CCTV installed. Legal eagles say this could weaken the case against Tejpal November 24, 2013 MUMBAI Vinod Kumar Menon The case of Tehelka founder and editor-in-chief, Tarun Tejpal, booked for rape of a female colleague during a conference in Goa, is getting murkier by the day. A day after his boss, state DGP Kishen Kumar confirmed the cops had gone through video footage to confirm the incident and even formally charged Tejpalwith rape, Deputy Inspector General (Crime) OP Mishra calleda sudden press conference on Saturday morning to reveal that the five star hotel's elevator 'had no CCTV camera installed'. PHOTO: Protestors in New Delhi burn an image of Tarun Tejpal. AFP Photo Legal eagles are questioning the timing of the revelation by the Goa police. Many of them told Sunday MiD DAY that given the admission that there was no CCTV footage of the elevator, the Goa police now have very little prima-facie evidence to establish rape charges against the accused, especially as this case is a suo motu one, which does not have any medical or scientific evidence to prove the prosecution's case. Also, the very act of calling for an urgent press conference by the DIG even before his own police team could reach Delhi reeks of political pressure, they say. Tarun Tejpal/Pic AFP DIG Mishra, in his press briefing stated, The hotel authorities have told us that they have no cameras in the elevator. We are getting a detailed layout of cameras from other areas of the hotel to make a detailed analysis. He further said, Some CCTV footage has been received from the hotel but could not be immediately examined because of technical issues and other logistics. We will follow the standard operating procedure of investigation in the case. It was evident that there was more to it than meets the eye, when Sunday MiD DAY contacted DIG Mishra and asked him tough questions about whether this new discovery of that there being no CCTV cameras inside the elevator, would hamper investigations. His reply: Sorry, I cannot divulge any part of the ongoing investigation. When reminded that he had just told the whole world about the same ongoing investigation through a press conference, the DIG said, No, no, I was not under any pressure. The press conference was held because the media was calling us continuously. But then why did he have to leak out this very important piece of information about the lack of CCTV footage, we asked. The DIG disconnected the line abruptly. When asked if such revelations by the police in an ongoing case could hamper investigations, senior criminal lawyer, Majeed Memon said, The alleged act is said to have been committed inside the elevator on both occasions. Till now, people were anxious to know about the recorded footage of CCTV inside the elevator. Other than this piece of evidence, there is hardly anything substantive evidence, which could nail the accused for rape. In this case, the victim has also chosen not to lodge the FIR herself. In my opinion the police ought to have registered attempt to rape as the offence and then looked for substantive evidence to press further charges, which they have not done. In the absence of primary evidence, the investigating agency will have a difficult task ahead to prove rape. Advocate Vikram Varma, who practices in Goa, too, expressed similar views and apprehension. He said, From media reports on November 22, I understood that the video footage of the crime had been examined by the police. I was surprised to learn today that no such video footage exists. A lack of supporting evidence will certainly weaken the case. If no video footage of the crime existed, how could a preliminary inquiry conclude rape? It is important to understand at this stage why the public was misled with regard to the existence of video footage of the alleged crime. Tejpal's confession is inadmissible as evidence for the sections charged. For any crime against women, I do feel that far more energy must be spent in gathering admissible evidence for justice to be done, he said. Senior council Adik Shirodkar too expressed similar views by saying, CCTV footage is an additional clinching evidence. Its absence means that evidence is not available, and the entire investigation proceeds on the basis of the complainant's statementand whether any witness is available to corroborate her statement. Even if the police have invoked sections of rape but are not able to support it with any direct, circumstantial or corroborative evidence, the court can drop the said sections at the time of framing of the charges. Shirodkar added that by holding a press conference and divulging a crucial piece of

[Goanet] Cleaners Find Gold Bars in Jet Airways Aircraft Toilet
*Cleaners Find Gold Bars in Jet Airways Aircraft Toilet* Nov 25, 13 If you're flying business class on an Indian jet, it may pay you to check the toilets for hidden gold. A scam aimed at smuggling gold bars into India has been uncovered, with the latest incident involving a Jet Airways plane at Kolkata airport. Cleaners found 24 gold bars worth more than US$1 million hidden in the plane's toilet. Police investigators say smugglers are targeting those international flights which, after landing at an Indian airport, continue on to another destination within India. The scamsters are thought to travel business class on international sectors since the number of passengers is less and the toilets are much less used. They leave the gold behind when the aircraft lands at an Indian airport, before its onward domestic leg. Another passenger then books a business class ticket for the domestic leg, removes the hidden stash mid-air and, on arrival, walks away without customs examination. Recently, an aircraft cleaning crew found 280 gold bars inside a plane's toilet after it flew from Dubai to the Bangladesh capital, Dhaka. India recently raised duty on imports of gold jewellery from 10% to 15%.

NEW November 25-December 1, 2013 *GOA’S DRUG MENACE: Little changed in decades - 1* This investigative article by *Lionel Messias* appeared on GOA TODAY (January, 1986: THE DRUG MENACE: GETTING HIGH) and is being reproduced now to show that the drug menace as it existed in the Eighties continues in the same vein (pun intended) four decades later with the only change being that the kind of drugs available today are more sophisticated in their chemistry and as a result the *carte du jour *has both diversified and multiplied. Inflation too caught up as it has with every other market commodity. After reading this, you may want to add that in the Goa of today, the consumer profile has however changed dramatically. Such was the opposition to foreign tourists coming to Goa because Goans were worried (not xenophobic) that outsiders would come and ruin Goan culture, devastate the land and Goa would never be the same again. And in retrospect, their fear seems to have been borne out, although there have been exceptions, because Goa has become a playground – whether we like to admit or not – for those who want to “partay”, for those who want to snort/sniff/swallow/smoke drugs and the less said the better about the land. [Goanet] Was Congress in a tearing hurry to award Sachin the Bharat Ratna?
Dear Dr Barad, I came across this news report in the Bijness Stunted Quote: The granting of Bharat Ratna to Sachin Tendulkar is a grand conspiracy enacted by Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Dr Manmohan Singh. Faced with a strong challenge from the macho man from Gujarat, the Kangress Party hopes to sway the votes of all those below 40 years for whom Sachin is considered an idol. It was also secretly learnt that the Kangress gorment had also conspired to award Vishwanathan Anand, had he retained his World Chess title, with the Bharat Ratna so that all votes in Tamil Nadu would automatically go to the Kangress. Mrs Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Dr Manmohan Singh are also in touch with the weather gods to lower the temperature in Delhi so that a thick fog can hang around BJP supporters and cause invisibility. That would help Kangress sapporters reach polling bhoots and caste their votes phor their party. Unquote: I agree with you that Truth is bitter. So is Karela. I hope the Kangress party does not also think of awarding the scientist who discovered Karela with Bharat Ratna. That would be a bitter pill to swallow just like purgative. Regards, Marshall U. G. Re: [Goanet] Criticize IFFI and Think fest if you Must but please be sensible ( Rolf Fds)
I have decided to step in, of controversy going on between great giants of Goanet such as Jose Colaco,Stephen Dias,Augusto Pinto,Eugene Correia and Roland Francis. I may be an ordinary Aam Admi person of poor local family but I do not mind giving my side of comments into the IFFI episode whether it is a necessity or not for Goans to have it. There were some points raised by two members, one doctor and another one is scientist of the above group, and gave me to understand that IFFI is not a MUST for Goans when Goa has no proper roads at Panjim ,Miramar and D.Paula and the drinking water is a scarcity from the taps of PWD only for an hour for the last 25 years as per the Stephen Dias, and Colaco says about the Hospitals, torn bed sheets, unclean rooms, hygiene, ( and I add to that a substandard food, intermittent electricity supply, unqualified doctors and nurses, no oxygen cylinder when needed, no medicines of life savings are immediate available, toilets stinking, no proper parking at the hospitals for guests, substandard canteen, any Tom, Dick and Harry entering into the rooms while the patients are sleeping specially carpenters, electrician and plumbers in the excuse of repairing their gadgets, such as telephone, replacement of bulbs, air-condition repairs etc) . If such infrastructure is not available in Goa, why the hell we need IFFI and by the GOD grace if there is some a real mishap Goa image will go completely down with these foreign tourists and delegates. There is no guarantee of Firebrigade, fire fighting if there is any fire. Do we require such events at the cost of our Goa to get funds? . Digamber, Rane Sardinha, and Parrikar say that we are No. 1 in the country, do we need to go down to No. 10? For Augusto and Eugene I must say in our home whatever we may be, we always like to invite people for wedding, festivals or parties/function when we all the arrangement are made according to our pocket and we do not want to get our guest to criticize later. Similarly the event of IFFI we know it is necessary but at what costs, no roads , no water, intermittent electricity and the generators cannot guarantee the proper voltage or load of the big event etc and you want us to get a bad name internationally or nationally. That is the reason the Govt or the Films division should see that the entire infrastructure is order and than organize IFFI festival. Today I came to know that K.S Kundu Director General of Films Division said at the Press Conference at IFFI on Sunday that they cannot put an exhibition stall (which is a nut arrangement) at the venue this year and ask for the excuse, since they preferred setting up of the museum on Indian cinema in Mumbai. So, you guys imagine the standard of IFFI is found deteriorating every passing year, and if it continues this way then even Indian tourists will not attend. That will be the fate of our IFFI standard in years to come. What we see a show piece of cheap quality which the organizers have put illumination lights on trees with quantity of series of lamps, fitted also on electric poles and we have stalls at the promenade of footpath along Mandovi which sells rubbish and not of international standards and who goes there are 98 % ghantis and few Goans who have nothing to do at home, and what you guys see inside the IFFI is a normal film screening by great personalities which is worth seeing and this can be shown at any part of the country and not necessarily in Goa although we loose our revenue at what cost, to spoil our name? Let us set well all of standards and then invite or organize IFFI . See what has happen at Think Fest , it has turned out into StinkFest and Tejal has spoiled everything and made a Mess of this name of 7-star Hotel at Bambolim by abusing/molesting? his own staff reporter? in the lift? Now it is reached to a higher level that is rape ? God only knows what is the real story , whether it is going political by Parrikar BJP and that now other organisations are amplifying and making it look much bigger by The Women Organisation in Goa and elsewhere in the country. It needs to be investigated in higher level by CBI as this kind of touching or banging hips etc are very common in today's world especially in dancing halls. But the name of Goa counts here at International level. Rolf Fernandes, Margao

My comments to Dr. Ferdinandos latest response: I had provided the web link in my first message to Goanet and the said web-link does provide the origin of the message i.e. Deccan Herald , not Decan as you have written in your response! The web-link also provides the date when that message appeared i.e Monday 25 November 2013 NOT 12 Nov as you wrote. You have written in your response: The news on Deccan is dated 12 Nov. with no year. Right Dr. Ferdinando? Check it out Dr. Ferdinando!! AND IN YOUR FIRST RESPONSE YOU USED THE 2 WORDS: published and News of 2011 and posed me a 2 question: i) Wonder why it is published now? Ii) And how much the present CM funded for Thinkfest 2012 Thinkfest 2013? HAVE YOU NOT ASKED THESE TWO QUESTIONS TO ME? What was the link of your questions with my original message? Could you explain in you ENGLISH STYLE? Secondly, using this WONDER word you asked a question: Wonder why it is published now? Have you not asked this question Dr. Ferdinando? Now dont run away from this truth too! AND again in your latest ENGLISH styled response you are asking: Did I anywhere state why this news was posted by Dr. Barad ? Now, Dr. Ferdinando, will you please explain me your denial on this issue in your own ENGLISH style! Dr. Ferdinando in his latest ENGLISH styled response is asking, Have I anywhere asked Dr. Barad any questions? Why does he imply and justify as though I have asked him? My response to this: Dr. Fernando has posed 2 questions in his first response i.e. : i) Wonder why it is published now? Ii) And how much the present CM funded for Thinkfest 2012 Thinkfest 2013? For you to recollect what you had written in your first response I had appended your mail along with your first response to me! And that too you did not refer and preferred to take denial stand saying, Have I anywhere asked Dr. Barad any questions? Why does he imply and justify as though I have asked him? Why this denial Dr. Ferdinando? Why are you running away from this truth? Lastly, Dr. Ferdinando, what do you mean by saying Is that no mal comprehension of English? AND what do you mean by usage of words i.e. certain wave length? Will you please elaborate on: 1) Is that no mal comprehension of English?; 2) certain wave length in your own ENGLISH version! A crusader turns collector Author: Devika Sequeira Publication: Deccan Herald Date: November 12, 2011 URL: http://www.deccanherald.com/content/204473/a-crusader-turns-collector.html After several preliminaries and high-power callssome of them from Sonia Gandhis political adviser Ahmed Patel ''Tehelka'' publisher and chief operating officer Neena Tejpal met Chief Minister Digambar Kamat in Goa weeks ahead of ''Think 2011'', the magazines festival of ideas that was held here from November 4 to 6. She came with a few other people to meet me and asked us to associate with the event. Since prominent people, including central ministers were coming, we agreed to help them, Kamat told Deccan Herald on Saturday. He denied there had been pressure from Delhi for him to support the festival, which has been shadowed by a controversy, or that a deal had been struck for Tehelka to hold off an expose on illegal mining in Goa. No, no, thats not true at all, he said. Also present at the meeting with the Tehelka representatives were Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivastava, former tourism secretary D C Sahoo, Finance Secretary S Kumaraswamy, Director (tourism) Swapnil Naik and others. Neena Tejpal, sister of Tehelka editor Tarun Tejpal, was business-like and downright arrogant with the Goa chief minister, leaving his aides quite stunned. If Tarun was here, he would have asked for Rs 1.5 crore. How much are
Re: [Goanet] Experience at Jet Airways
My first travel with Jet Air was not a good one. It was many years back Flying from Goa to Mumbai, Jet air did not accommodate me in the flight I had booked since they wanted to accommodate a foreigner family. The next flight was after 45mins and from then on I told them I would Never fly Jet air. 3 years back I had to fly jet air from Jeddah, as AI had cancelled Their flight and had endorsed my ticket with Jet Air. They use smaller aircrafts From Jeddah and on slight turbulence the aircraft shakes a lot. Regarding the baggage allowance, all airlines have now updated Their websites with baggage allowance for all countries. Recently Some had introduced the piece concept. Last year Lufthansa charged Biz class for the extra bag even though we were within the weight limit Allowed in the European sector. Therefore always check online before you fly. Not all passengers flying from Jeddah are labourers, there are many pilgrims Who fly year round on umra or during hajj, then there are businessmen also. Recently heard an Air India air-hostess showing a Kerela passenger how to adjust his ecolac case In the over head baggage compartments, when he turned around and told her 'You don't teach me, I am flying from here for the past 25 years' :) Dev Borem korum Eddie Verdes -Original Message- From: goanet-boun...@lists.goanet.org [mailto:goanet-boun...@lists.goanet.org] On Behalf Of J. Here are some of my observations: 1: for those among us who book online (say on Virgin) (as 007 Jim did), there is no way (i know) to book from NY to Goa on that site. 2: Essentially, the BOM-Goa segment has to be booked separately and becomes a domestic route and not subject to Int baggage agreements. 3: About booking via travel agents: Our Australia based family were booked Sydney BOM (Quantas), BOM Goa (Spicejet). They arrived in BOM on (I believe) Sept 9, 2013 - the day when Spicejet's reduced domestic baggage allowance became effective. Somehow, the family did not know as the travel agent either did not check or did not advise the passengers appropriately. Suggestion: Always check on line before you travel. jc

In my case I was overweight, so this aole (woman) simply states that I will have to throw things out. I said why throw? Is it OK if I pay. Then I asked her what prevented her from telling me, and no need to even have to call me Sir, that I am over the permissible weight, and would have to pay. She gave me a cold look (I understand that our buttheads object to paying), then called her supervisor—whispered in the fers ear. She gives me a cold look when I know their belife systems, etc like the back of my hand Anyway, he does the math and charges me more. I simply point that out. He glares at me. Being underspaid is but one issue Eric. But there are those other components I pointed out. Correction: In my case I was overweight, so this aole (woman) simply states that I will have to throw things out. Imagine, she gives me a cold look—and was very civil with her although I was being supra-logical. On top of that and not obvious to her—I know their belife systems, etc like the back of my hand To include that my body language is not that of some insipid, slouchy type, and I understand that the wealthy are not immune from a cartilage spine. Anyway, he does the math and charges me more. I simply point that out. He glares at me. I then say, “no matter what you guys are so crude that you only want the fruits of modernity (and cannot relate to basic professionalism)” which is a b**tch any ways. [Goanet] [JudeSundayReflections] First Sunday of Advent
23-Nov-2013 Dear Friend, Much of life is spent in waiting! We wait for birth and wait for death! In between we are forced to wait for things to happen: to get a job, to meet the boss, to get a train, to get cured of a nagging illness. We wait in tension when awaiting results of a test or interview. We get bored waiting when an expected event takes too much time. But we don't mind the delay if we love the person we are waiting for. Are we ready to wait for God? Have an exciting weekend waiting for God to come into your life! Fr. Jude Sunday Reflections: 1st Sun. of Advent Stay Awake, because you do not know when the master is coming! 1-Dec-2013 Isaiah 2: 1-5 Rom.13: 11-14 Matt 24: 37-44 One of the key concepts of the Old Testament was the idea of the 'covenant' by which God bound himself to his people, and a visible symbol of the covenant was the temple in which God dwelt among his people. In the temple was enshrined the book of the Law which was meant to guide the behavior of the people. Isaiah in today's reading looks forward to the time when the covenant between God and his people will be extended to all people, where the temple will be the worshipping place for all mankind. He sees Jerusalem as the focal point where all peoples will come to worship the Lord in the temple on the mountain, the dwelling place of God. When that happened all people would live in peace and harmony with God and their fellow human beings. Moving towards the Mountain Alan Paton was a South African writer. Among the books he wrote was the haunting story, Cry the Beloved Country, which so poignantly described the situation in South Africa under apartheid. Paton had a dream. He dreamt of a new day for his beloved South Africa, a day in which there would be justice and equality for all. For this reason he entered into politics, and fought to end the iniquitous system of apartheid. For decades he followed his dream, and worked generously and courageously to make it a reality. It was a dream that many said would not be realized. Yet it was. Unfortunately, Paton did not live to see it. He died before the dawn. - The prophet Isaiah had an even bolder dream, a dream of universal brotherhood and peace. Isaiah's vision was a splendid one. It would only be realized by the coming of the Lord Jesus. Flor McCarthy in 'New Sunday and Holy Day Liturgies' In today's Gospel Christ clearly urges his disciples to stay awake because we do not know when the Son of Man will return. Each day summons us to awake from our sleep. Some days we are enthusiastic in anticipating a great day ahead, on other days we dread the beginning of a new day. Life may be empty and monotonous for us. We may be unemployed, or retired, sickly or old and there is nothing to look forward to. No one has a perfect life. It is how we face life that makes all the difference. Advent issues a spiritual wake up call for all of us, and has an awakening power. To be spiritually awake means to be open, vigilant and active. To be spiritually awake is to be attentive to God and others. In today's Gospel Jesus reminds us that in the days of Noah people took it easy, they carried on doing the usual things and were caught off guard when the floods came. Only Noah heeded the warning and built himself and his family an ark to save them from the flood. We are not being asked to run out and build a boat to escape, or to buy a parachute, or construct an anti- raid shelter. We are being asked to listen to the Lord so that we may walk in his path and live according to his precepts and commandments. Jesus also talks of the future coming of the Son of man. We prepare for the future coming by taking responsibility for the present time. The only way we can prepare for an unpredictable event is to make the present a time of fidelity. Wake-up call God's wake-up call can come to people in different ways, and will mean different things to different people. In Mexico in the diocese of Bishop Samuel Ruiz almost 80 % of the population of his diocese was indigenous. The Bishop has become known as 'the defender of the Indians.' But it wasn't always like that. In a talk given in Westminster Cathedral in Lent 1996, Bishop Ruiz said: For twenty years I was like a sleeping fish. I had my eyes open but saw nothing. I was just proud to be in the diocese where the churches were crowded. Then one day I saw an Indian tied to a tree being whipped by his boss, because he had refused to work an extra eight hours. That incident opened the bishop's eyes and he began to look. What he saw being done to his people spurred him into action. He got involved in negotiations with the Zapato rebels and the Mexican government. One of the phrases we often use is 'it dawned on me'. In this way we recognize that it is not enough to be physically awake. We need to be awake socially, morally and spiritually. Flor McCarthy in 'New Sunday and Holy Day

Re: [Goanet] Experience at Jet Airways
Folks, Here is some positive news! Jet Airways reverted back to me earlier today. Based on the tone of the message it appears they are willing to look into the matter about my experience with them and help resolve it. I shall keep you updated on the outcome. There have been several posts on this thread and I greatly appreciate fellow Goans sharing titbits about their personal experience on this forum. My original post had nothing to do with - whether I was right or wrong on pounding Jet Airways as Jose Colaco is harping about. It was about how flexible a company is willing to be on their rules, in order to keep their customers happy. It is no secret in the West that companies - large and small are willing to go great distance in order to maintain excellent relations with their customers. In fact, I gave two recent examples in my post where in both instances I made genuine mistakes. But when I communicated back with them giving my fair reasons, they were generous enough to write off my charges. My argument with Jet Airways was similar in nature: Previously, whenever I travelled with them on Dollar Fare I never had to pay for excess baggage (the difference between baggage allowance between international leg and the domestic leg in India). Their argument was that I was travelling on two different PNRs and my response was that I wasn't aware of the difference. As far as I was concerned, I paid for the fare in US dollars (when rupee ticket is obviously cheaper) and they need to at least give me a break on the baggage charges. I requested to speak to the supervisor on staff to escalate my situation, but was told that the supervisor would not be able to help in the matter and that the instructions to charge for excess baggage came directly from their company chief. I was visibly upset because Jet Airways had rules that were inflexible and that I had to pay an extra (Rs 7,000 + Rs 4,500 = Rs 11,500) - an amount that could have been TOTALLY AVOIDED - had I booked the flight under one PNR. It was one of those ridiculous things that happen to you and then you go mad Jim F New York. Another tip: If your baggage is still over the allowed limit, I found out that you could also send the baggage as Cargo for about half the cost of regular charges. But you need to be at the airport an hour or two before your regular check-in time. Your excess baggage when sent as cargo, still accompanies you on your flight, except that it is handled by a different department and at much lower rates. But in India, there is no such thing as a customer service. In India, its all about How-Quickly-Can-I-Make-My-Money or How-Much-Bonus-Can-I-Make. A case in point, is my recent experience with Jet Airways in India. In order to simplify purchasing my airline ticket on a website, I purchased one ticket from JFK to BOM on Virgin Atlantic and a second ticket from BOM to GOI on Jet Airways. Both tickets were purchased using my US issued credit card. I did not realize that because I purchased two different tickets, my baggage (2 pieces of 50 pounds each) would not qualify for the same weight limits on Jet Airways. The lady at the Jet counter in Mumbai explained to me that there was nothing she could do to lower my excess baggage bill and that the orders to charge for excess baggage came directly from their CEO Mr Gary Toomey. So I ended up paying Rs 7000 in excess baggage - because their rules allowed only 15 Kg (33 pounds) of baggage per passenger. This is unbelievable! First of all, they charged close to $200 for a round trip flight between BOM and GOI - a mere 50 minute flight each way and another $115 dollars on excess baggage! On the way back from GOI to BOM, I cut down on my baggage because of the rip off. Never the less, I still ended up paying Rs 4500. I just had to bring some Goan stuff back with me - otherwise I would have never considered paying outrageous fees. Just so that you do not fall in this trap, my advise is to purchase your tickets on the same PNR (one booking for the entire journey). ... ...

Jim F, Next time you need to come to Goa, dont come to Mumbai, unless you have some bussiness, just avoid Mumbai/Delhi etc, Try and take a flight from US to the gulf ( Dubai, Bahrain,Doha, Muscat, Abu Dhabi, etc) they have direct flights to Goa, you dont have to worry on Baggage, it comes to Goa, clear your arrival Formalaties and enjoy, and you can Go the Same way. Its best way to travel, plus carry some more luggage from the duty free shopping at any of these locations. [Goanet] Was Congress in a tearing hurry to award Sachin the Bharat Ratna?
Yes, Marshal, you are right! Karela is bitter!! And equally, I would not be surprised if Kangress party thinks of giving Bharat Ratna award to the scientist who discovered it!!! By any chance do you know the name of the scientist who first discovered Karela? If yes, please rush the name of that scientist to Dr. Manmohan Singh - PM of India through either Sonia Gandi or Rahul Gandi!! Will you do that? Lastly, in your opening remark you wrote 'I came across this news report in the Bijness Stunted.' Looks like you have started 'Bijness Stunted!' If so, wish you all the very best!! U. G. Barad Message Marshall Mendonza mmendonz...@gmail.com wrote; Dear Dr Barad, I came across this news report in the Bijness Stunted Quote: The granting of Bharat Ratna to Sachin Tendulkar is a grand conspiracy enacted by Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Dr Manmohan Singh. Regards, Marshall
[Goanet] Tejpal the skunk
To Goanet - Two years ago, it was reported that Tejpal's associates had effectively blackmailed Goa's then-CM Digambar Kamat into parting with 30 lakhs of Goa taxpayer rupees to fund his tamasha at the Grand Hyatt. Digu, being the pig that he was, meekly complied. The astonishing thing was, there was little outrage from Goans at this blatant extortion. I had written the following at the time - http://lists.goanet.org/pipermail/goanet-goanet.org/2011-November/215084.html Tunku Varadarajan has this piece in The Daily Beast today - http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2013/11/25/the-fall-of-india-s-conscience.html r

Re: [Goanet] Banks Warn Fed They May Have To Start Charging Depositors
Gabe Menezes wrote: Now US People will keep money under their mattress! *http://tinyurl.com/lmle59o http://tinyurl.com/lmle59o* -- Gabe Menezes, This will not be a problem since the Fed already charges depositors in the US i.e. interest rates on savings accounts are half that of inflation. Current Fed policy, believe it or not, is to penalize savers or those with savings. Things are going to change though. In a few months, the Fed will have a new chief. The last two times this happened, the markets went haywire. The roller coaster ride that follows will be interesting, and especially so for those who are sitting on cash. In this regard, the charges a bank may levy against deposits will be a pittance when compared to risking your savings elsewhere. Mervyn
[Goanet] Blessed Vaz
The Joseph Naik Vaz Institute based in Berkeley, California (www.josephnaikvaz.org) has been supporting the canonization efforts of Blessed Joseph Vaz since 1978. For 35 years we have organized Masses, novenas, petition drives and other awareness campaigns/events to highlight this great missionary's life and contributions. So it is with great pride that we share the announcement by Sri Lankan church authorities that a miracle through his intercession has passed a crucial stage at the Vatican. If this miracle gets final approval, his long awaited canonization is likely to take place before long. Blessed Joseph Vaz, was born in Benaulim, Goa in 1651, and died in Kandy in 1711. He is officially known as Apostle of Kanara and Sri Lanka for his heroic missionary work under Dutch persecution. He was also declared Patron of the Archdiocese of Goa on January 16, 2000. If canonized, Blessed Joseph Vaz would become the first official Goan Saint in the Catholic calendar of saints. We urge the worldwide Goan, Sri Lankan, and Mangalorean communities to join in a Novena and prayer campaign for the successful completion of the canonization process to make Blessed Joseph Vaz a Saint. See more information at www.josephnaikvaz.org. If you plan to say the novena, see http://josephnaikvaz.org/novena.html Do email the Institute at josephnaik@gmail.com and let us know about your participation in this campaign and please spread the word to all your contacts and social media groups. Thank you. Joseph Naik Vaz Institute www.josephnaikvaz.org
