As usual crap is discussed all over the place by Goans and in this case it is
whether Remo merits a bharati certificate.
Recently Remo has re obtained his Portuguese nationality so cruelly taken away
from him in that infamous day of December 1961, in the meantime of about 5
decades this gentleman was taught how to hate Portugal.
For the past 10 years Remo has been on the political spectrum but has failed to
turn things around for Goa with his songs and words. Deep in frustration and
with no light at the far end of the tunnel, the singer said Goodbye to bharat.
This should be a clarion call to bharat rulers to open their eyes with the type
of forced illegal governance in Goa. Remo was lauded by the current
colonialists with some Padma Xri award for the music he dishes out, all to no
avail, once unhappy Remo now says Bom Dia Portugal.

Veteran journalist and Padma Bhushan awardee Mark Tully, who was born in
Kolkata in 1935, today received his birth certificate from the Kolkata
Municipal Corporation, 78 years after his birth.

Tully, who was born at Regent Park in the Tollygunj area in the southern
part of the city (then in undivided 24-Parganas district) on October 24,
1935, needed the certificate to apply for the Overseas Citizen of India
status and had written to KMC Mayor Sovan Chatterjee in this regard on
August 5.

The birth was registered by the Registrar of Births, Deaths and
Marriages, Alipore, on November 21, 1935. He was born of William Scarth
Carlisle Tully and Patience Treby.

"I was a bit doubtful when I first wrote to the Mayor for the birth
certificate. But today I am really overwhelmed by the response. I was
born in Calcutta then I went to London and again came back to New Delhi
for my job," Tully said.

*"Though I am a British, today I feel like more Calcuttan than ever
before," said Mr Tully.

Clearly, Mark Tully was and still is a British Citizen.

Also if you go through the list of awardees of National Honours ,
any foreign national who has contributed significantly to India can
also be awarded any honour.*

The BJP finds a way to circumvent every possible law. The Supreme Court in
a landmark judgment recently has prohibited displaying photographs of
politicians on government advertisements. The only ones exempted are the
President of India, Prime Minister and the Chief Justice of the Supreme
Court.

This law laid down by the Supreme Court is however being flouted by now
camouflaging the advertisements as being issued by the contractors while
infact the financial burden is indirectly lumbered on the tax payers.

One such full page advertisement has been released today in all the
newspapers. That too despite the State coffers being in dire financial
straits.

Goa's Politicians: Divine Right Of Kingship?

The behavior of Goa's politicians seem to me to be in the mode of
seventeenth century Europe's Divine Right of Kingship. Are our politicians
ready for democracy?

How do we mortals and sadly mistaken voters tell them differently? How do
we tell them what they are doing is wrong? Can they understand?

In a democracy, politicians no doubt are elected to do the will of the
people. For this reason a political party presents its manifesto, and
persuades and promises to accomplish what is written down in black and
white. The voter then votes or does not vote based on the assurance of the
Party's manifesto.

If a political party gets elected and does not do what it has promised to
do, then the voter is unlikely to be fooled again, the majority, that is.
Masochists and please-hit-me-again types may vote again, gleefully. But it
is dangerous to rely on this type of voter as they are in a minority even
when the society has come down with a serious virus attack which can make
everyone lose their sense of direction, a fate worse than getting drunk on
our local coconut or cashew fenny.

Do our politicians suffer from Alzheimer's disease after the election? If
they do then they should take some miracle medicine invented during the
Vedic period. And if some history books are correct about the Golden Age
of Indian civilization then we have to believe this disease did not exist!
And there was no need to invent a medicine for it. Other history books
however teach us differently: politicians at the time were simply labelled
Liars!

In the Divine Right of Kingship approach to democracy, it is a sin to
criticize the government as politicians have been given a God-given right
to govern the people. Expert committees and their expert opinions are
sidelined and people who lack expertise or even a proper education veto
everything which they don't like for reasons best known to themselves. They
will not listen to the voters or the experts even though they have not kept
to their promise, what they have written in black and white in their
manifestos. They now have the power, and are drunk on it, after being
elected and the voter is more a nuisance and shadow of a human being who
really deserves no time at all. Who needs the experts when I, the
politician, am here! I will decide! Who are you to voice your opinion? The
voters constitutional rights are buried until the next election.

A good formula, no doubt, for disaster is the sowing of a mine field of
multiple wrong decisions waiting for future generations to reap! At times,
experts' reports are replaced by new reports by other expert committees
which are slanted and often a cut-and-paste job to suit the politician's
goal along with convenient insertions and omissions. Always, there is a
need to look at the fine print as our politicians have a genius for
hoodwinking the public. All form no content, with a lot of back door
entries and exits.

And then there is the final straw to break the back of the voter: You
unnecessarily want to stop all development! No, sir, not all development
the Goan voters tell their elected government and representatives again and
again. Only development which is harmful to us and the unborn generations
should be stopped! Otherwise future generations will have to pay not only
the price of a low quality of life but maybe even with their lives.

The majority of the Top Twenty polluted cities in the world today are in
India. Is this development? And, is it any wonder people living in Delhi
and other polluted cities around the country want to settle down in Goa?

Politicians who belong to the school of thought of the Divine Right of
Kingship and who do not agree with what is written down are welcome to
correct the record.

On every contentious issue please agree to a public debate - pro and con -
with experts from the relevant field. Are you game?

ANNUAL MEET OF GOANETTERS

The fellowship of goanetters was held on 28-12-2015 at Fundacao Oriente,
Mala Panjim It was the first time visit for many., The place maintains an
old flavor of architectural traditions with a courtyard The Director/ In
charge Mrs Inez introduced to the participants historical and cultural
activities for 21 years now, with special emphasis on State of Goa.
Initially there was much apprehension about its inception from pro Indian
supporters but now everyone appreciates its contribution and maintaining
linkages, The participants very informally were treated with light
refreshment at the start by the foundation .A tour of art gallery under a
well informed guide was enlightening and informative. It is devoted to the
memory of late Mr AntonioXavier Trindade, a Goan artist of repute
originally from Sanguem and trained at J.J School of art, then Bombay He
never left the shores of the country His paintings displayed bring out
contrast, minute details, depict his family, wife, cook, daughter besides
some celebrities and common people in water colours and oil

The session was unique that it was bereft of boring lectures. It provides
an opportunity to come face to face with writers on goanet, Mr Chico
entertained the participants with Portuguese, Spanish, and Goan delights
and was applauded profusely, Fortunately age has not taken toll of his
melodious and steady rendering of favourite compositions .The participants
were given 2 minutes each to introduce themselves, express their opinions
and limit their views to non controversial topics, There was galaxy of
stalwarts , highly educated professionals retired and in service, who had
excelled in their chosen field and a vocational calling and contributing
immensely to society. Some familiar, respected individuals could not add to

Fundacao Oriente, Mala, Altinho, Panjim, Goa

  http://bit.ly/FundacaoOrienteGoa

The Fundao Oriente carries out cultural and artistic activities
in India with, for historical and cultural reasons,
special emphasis on the State of Goa.

Looking forward to seeing you there

A welcome new year
The past year had lots of surprises for many of us . both good and
unpleasant.yet we have battled against all odds to adjust and carry on.Some
efforts were sucessful, others not . leaving us in pain and anguish to just
drag on and acept the inevitable,We called it will of God or better still
bad luck, and resigned to our detiny
The new year , is unknown and that fills us with hope and expectations to a
better year ahead. It is the hope and trust that make our new year filled
with joy and happiness
We want everything new and renewed arond us. We will burn symbolically poor
old man to ashes, with great funfare, announcing that old is displaced by
new, what ever that signifies This act makes feel renewed with vigour
Let us then cast out all that is evil within us, negative thoughts and
actions, envy, jealousy, pride and arrogance, our superiority, hatred and
anger, revenge and opportunity to strike back, It is only when we replace
our desires with love and good will Let us then burn our enmities and offer
the hand of friendship, without reservation
expectations
It is only when we CHANGE in our knowledge perceptions, attitudes, and
behaviour, we will admire the joy and happiness within ourselves, and see a
sea of change,in the world around us
Let us then try and forget and forgive with a generous heart, It is surely
contagious phenomenon that spreads happiness like a wild fire
To all our friends, the best in the new year 2016

[Goanet] Is foreign funding for services in India permitted?

2015-12-28 Thread Dr . Ferdinando dos Reis Falcão

Does a private Investigation into a crime that the State is in the process of
investigating hold any 'Locus standi" in the Court of Law?

IF YES. Then how?

IF. Not ! Then what is the reason for collecting Foreign Public funds for the
same and cheat the Public as the end result, whether fact or fabrication, will
be futile?

Here is a case where people are influenced through sentiments.

We need to guide them.

[Goanet] : KARMALI AND BHATIKAR SUPPRESSING THE BAHUJAN SAMAJ

2015-12-28 Thread Stephen Dias
-

CHURCH FINISHING INDIAN CULTURE: says Karmali

Some sections of the Press have reported that Naguesh Karmali so called
freedom fighter says that the Church is finishing Indian culture and I
quote that Adv. Uday Bhembre a self style intellectual calls for 75% “ to
rise up” against the domination of 25% which is not correct and not
acceptable.

There were a number of Goa freedom fighters who fought against the
Portuguese dictatorship in Goa and liberated Goa in 1961.

Those two are visible and active pseudo leaders on the MOI issue, Adv.
Bhembre and Karmali. Both at times have claimed that the Church is
promoting English medium at the primary level as part of a design to
suppress the Indian culture and ethos. Also they say it has been
suppressing it in a larger way than the Portuguese suppressed it in the 16th
and 17th centuries.

They should understand that we owe our children better education to a
quality to enable them to get a good start in life and empowerment in
competitive world on a global scenario for over 500 years, the crooked
among the upper casts have suppressed the Bahujan Samaj who constitute 95%
of the down trodden and suppressed majority. Unlike the 25% who should rise
up against the 75% which Bhembre claims, we the 95% of the Bahujan Samaj
should throttled the evil design of the 5% upper cast who are represented
by Bhembre and Karmali put together.

It is English alone which would liberate the Bahujan Samaj and I salute the
Church and its leadership for looking into the evil game plan of
suppressing the 95% of Goans depriving them the choice of empowerment in
the form of English.

Do Karmali and Bhembre realize the essence of Indian culture exist, in
promoting cast discrimination, encouraging sati and empowering the upper
casts?

The Catholic community by and large and the Church in particular is hell
bent on removing injustice, inequality, discrimination, suppression and
exploitation, whereas the essence, so called Indian culture, promoted by
Bhembre and Karmali.

The Church has liberated mankind through the teachings of Jesus Christ and
we Catholics will do our best to empower and liberate the Bahujan Samaj
from the clutches of these Hindu Brahmanism.

I understand and allegedly Bhembre and Karmali have empowered their
children and their grand children in English and are involved at Post
Graduate teaching at Goa University. Goans will be obliged if Bhembre’s
and Karmali’s children write their books on higher education in Physics,
Maths and other sciences and humanities in Konkani so that their books
can be used to empower our children to study KG to PhD in Konkani .

Practice what you Preach and involve your children, kit and kin and your
dear ones to improve Konkani literature, science, sociology, etec , etec.
so that we can feel the need to get quality education in Konkani and be at
par with English.

Charity begins at home. Please sacrifice the interest of your children to
promote Konkani before trying to sacrifice the future of Bahujan Samaj
children at the altar of competitive approach to economic development where
English alone reigns supreme.

We can teach our children Konkani at home and in school but for children
who want to study on college or above level, English should be the medium
of instruction (MOI), right from the start.

The issue about MOI ( English) is pursued by the parents of the school
going children and by no stretch of imagination by the Church, so why the
Church should be brought into the picture?

They should talk to the youth of today and see first hand the impact on a
child’s confidence and competitiveness when the child moves from Konkani
or Marathi medium to English when they move to higher studies which they
will need to in order to achieve success in life.

I repeat, why don’t understand why the Church is being blamed for English
being the MOI.

Rests of the masses are denied empowerment to English as they cannot
afford high fees in private English schools.

In fact I believe that by denying easy access to English MOI schools, both
Karmali and Bhembre are instrumental in denying a large section of the poor
and middle class the ability to meet their better off counterparts on an
equal footing.

Lastly, what does the MOI has to do with culture. Our children spend the
largest portion of the day at home. If we cannot share our culture with
them, how do we expect schools to do it?

Nelson Lopes,Fred has been the moderator here since the last century.
When he started off as moderator, there were lively debates with dozens of
people regularly contributing, explaining and even eloquently illustrating how
commonly held beliefs were amiss.
Over the years, the better contributors have all but disappeared. The
contributors who left, are also those who complained loudly that their
emails/responses 'disappear' when sent to Goanet.
There are many ways to censor an issue/person. When you have a decreasing
amount of contributors - they are either dying or someone is killing them off.
My guess here is that if Goanet is to regain its relevancy on the net, it
either has to attract new contributors or new moderators.

Just today I was thinking of Thomas Beuhler (came across his address by

My brother Ricky mentioned that Jaime X de Mello of Moira is in town. He's
the guy who set up Konkani tutorials online ages ago (with Samir Kalekar,
if I recall right). Tried to invite him for the Goanetters meet, but didn't
manage to!

The one person we really missed at today's meet was Joel D'S. My thoughts
went to what he would have been doing with the camera, had he still been
around. Of course, he has done more than his duty, recording and reporting
on Goa for more than five decades. May a rest well earned be his!

[Goanet] HISTORY GOANET CREATORS

2015-12-28 Thread Nelson Lopes
History of creators of Goanet from horses mouth, clarification by Fredrick
in all humility, for those like me may be inquisite to be informed

Thank you for that nice report! One minor point though: I feel the credit
given to me is undue. It's a team effort. Herman Carneiro
founded Goanet, and it
was a good application of a tech concept (a mailing list) to build
community networking. After that, a whole lot of others joined in and
supported Goanet. (Agreed, I've been there long; but the oldest donkey is
not necessarily the wisest donkey smile emoticon ) For the present,
there's Tony
de Sa here on Facebook, Bosco
D'Mello and Gabe
Menezes . Over the
years there have been so many others volunteering. Plus, there have been
dozens if not hundreds (will I be exaggerating if I say thousands?) who
have built the network by sharing their views, opinions, suggestions,
criticisms and more I see myself as a clerk or postman helping to keep
the machine running. That's all. Incidentally, a lot of people back in Goa
might not know about Goanet; this is because of the fact that it's early
birth meant that it was initially largely an expat-oriented network, and in
some ways stays so. Please help to spread the word. A couple of posters at
today's meet raised free speech issues; I personally feel we have no right
to censor any point of view, unless it is defamatory or borders on
hate-speech.ory of Goanet creators from horses mouth, clarification in all

Re: [Goanet] RP 2021 - GOANS FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT Press Note

2015-12-28 Thread Edwin/Diana Pinto

 RP 2021

December 28, 2015
GOANS FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT PRESS NOTE

GOANS FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT is an umbrella organization of various
active citizen groups, who believe that a sound Regional Plan based on
sustainability and needs of the people according to the 73rd and 74th
amendment, is the best way to protect Goa against the ravages of
unsustainable and predatory development that the state is now witnessing.

GSD said that the government’s attitude towards the people with respect to
RP 2021 and the Regional Plan itself, has conclusively proved that until the
73rd and 74th amendments were incorporated into a new TCP Act, people’s
participation in the Regional Plan would never be a reality but would leave
Goa open and extremely vulnerable to the machinations of vested interests.
Hence any Regional Plan prepared without constitutional validity being given
to people’s participation through a new TCP Act constituted on the
foundation of the 73rd and 74th amendments could certainly not find
acceptance with the people.

In fact the State Government’s intention to surreptitiously keep the people
out of the Planning process is apparent from the fact that the people’s
suggestions and objections to the RP 2021 have already been painstakingly
worked out and handed to the TCP when this RP was first proposed during
Digambar Kamat’s tenure as CM. Yet even as the present government makes no
attempt to incorporate the people’s suggestions in the RP 2021 it has
inexplicably opened the Plan for further objections and suggestions by the
people. Again, if the government is serious about people’s participation,
does it really think that one month in the height of the festive and tourism
season is an adequate time frame for the people?

In any case, a Regional Plan which keeps out ODP areas and is based on
extremely inadequate and outdated data, can certainly not stand the test of
scrutiny since the development of one place can have a serious impact on
another. For example, the tribulations of Margao’s sewage is presently being
borne by the innocent villagers of Navelim. Similarly, no study has been
conducted on the eco sensitivity of the Mopa plateau area, which abuts the
Western Ghats World Heritage site before earmarking 80 lakh sq. metres of
land for a second airport that will concretise and block 46 perennial
springs and destroy a wealth of ecology in a state that has now begun
suffering from water shortages.
It has also been observed that the Chief Town Planner has arbitrarily added
large tracts of land as settlement in a number of villages, which have not
been recommended by the people, even as existing settlement areas with
longstanding homes, have been inexplicably changed to green, thus giving the
false impression that settlement areas have not been increased significantly
in RP 2021. Tenanted agricultural lands are shown in settlement zones,
threatening the tenants with displacement, only for profits for builders.
Forests, low-lying areas, water bodies and rich agricultural lands are
marked for destruction for real estate, tourism or industries.

The BJP’s 2012 election manifesto clearly stated that “Regional Plan will be
scrapped and a new one to be drawn up with people’s participation in a
transparent manner”. In August 2014, the then Chief Minister Manohar
Parrikar, referring to the TCP in the Assembly declared “Against how many
people can I take action, I will have to empty the whole department... not a
single town planner will be left in the department, everyone's name is
tainted with something or the other... I am saying it".

GSD said that its study corroborates what the BJP said before it came to
power. The RP 2021 needs to be scrapped and there appears to be a strong
basis for ex Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s allegation of the
overwhelming taint in the TCP department. In the circumstances, how can the
Government even consider such a Regional Plan?

GSD therefore demands that the Government fulfil its election promise of
scrapping the contentious RP 2021 and creating a new Plan based on a solid
democratic foundation, wherein the people can truly participate, to ensure
that Goa does not become another Chennai or Uttarakhand, or join the ranks
of India’s drought ridden states, which will put the lives and livelihood of
the people in jeopardy if a recklessly and arbitrarily constructed Regional
Plan is accepted to suit the machinations of vested interests.

Hence GSD demands the following :

1.RP 2021 be denotified and a moratorium be put on all constructions
except single family dwellings
2.73rd and 74th amendments be implemented in a New Act for sustainable
planning and development
3.Carry out all relevant studies and present data to the people to
prepare a new Regional Plan

[Goanet] The game TABLANI, TABL, TABLAM we used to play

2015-12-28 Thread JoeGoaUk

The game TABLANI, TABL, TABLAM we used to play
Tablanim game we used to play
now almost extinct

Tablani game briefly explained as below..

https://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoaukextra3/23731537680/

An indoor (usually during monsoon) scoreboard, dealing game with four bamboo
sticks / bars
Made from Bamboo, keeping the outer green part as it is and inside (yellowish
part) is smoothen in curve form TABL (Singular), TABLAM (Plural) and TABLANI
(name of the Game)
TABL is pronounced as 'Table' in French
e.g The book is on the table, in French we say 'Le livre est sur la table'

The game consists of a set of 4 bars/Sticks called TABLAM (about 6-8 inch
long), a wooden scoreboard (Tabler) with 4 columns each having 12 squares or
houses and a set of 12 stones / pieces (gulio) usually red and white stones
which are easy to get outside the house or by the well.
The pieces that belong to each team are distinguished by colour. It can be any
other things like Tamarind seeds and Chikoo seeds etc
Tablani can be played by 2, 4, 6, 8,10..players thus each group has equal
members.
Leader of the group is sat on the scoreboard (Tabler, Pron. as taab-layr).
To be alive or active in the game, each player has to score a 'tabl' without
which scoring like 'att' 'bara' etc have no value.
Scoring either TABL or ATT or BARA gives you a chance to toss/deal repeatedly

Scoreboard / Tabler
Basically, it a game of entering into opponent's house by beating or attacking
any opponents found on the way..
Once you get a tabl, you can exit from your house and set your journey to
occupy your opponent house.
You climb (second column) and then climb down (column 3) to enter into your
opponent house (column 4)
Mind you, your opponent will also try his best to enter your house which means
there are attacks and counter attacks on the way to opponent's house.
