[Goanet] No alcohol consumption in public places

2018-01-20 Thread Bernice Pereira
CM has stated that shortly alcohol consumption in public places will be
prohibited. Why also does this not cover defecating, cooking and making a
nuisance in public places. Goa’s beaches are not public latrines or garbage

2018-01-20 Thread Herman
Dear Eugene,

FN is right in what he says; there is no use in cursing the darkness. This
issue has come up numerous times over the years.

The mailing list software is standard. If member's mailboxes are full and the
emails bounce, the mailing list software will switch you to the no mail setting
after a set number of repeated attempts to deliver mail. We've set the number
of attempts pretty high.

Whilst not everyone wants to or can volunteer, they can prevent being switched
to the no mail setting by maintaining their mailboxes to avoid bouncing emails
in the first place. Users get an email telling them they have been switched to
the no mail setting with a link to change their settings back, which takes less
than 30 seconds.

I felt you took a little dig at FN in your email. He should enjoy his status as
"King of the Goan Cyberworld" to the fullest given his contribution to the
community.

Good point about Fr Nascimento. But, you cannot beat yourself; although you
can see and must it as one (there would be more) missed opportunity, if and
even if a small market had been nurtured / has been created. Among every
people and place, certain given elements afford possibility. Still, any one
person can only do so much given existential caveats. Hence there are
institutions, or something that has the weight. Small groups, or a team of
two for instance.

Moving on:
My specific thrust was what I saw as a lack of interest in process.
Baseline business transaction. No matter which way one looks at it, its not
tens of illustrators of Goan origin contacting anybody, and sharing work.
The ideas was to bring ones visual skills to bear on things Goan, employing
ones analytical chops. Perhaps it is all a mere attempt at validating
myself. That must be it! Zait ghoddek! But apparently, we Goans have a
propensity of operating on a few too many layers in one existence; and it
works! And we can have our Christian graces too. Heh Bhagwaan, or Vo Deua /
Deva. Now, now I am pointing! Of course, this can be conveniently
misconstrued — so the caveat is a mild, within reason. Under what
circumstances is a project worth it, or can be accepted?

Perhaps believing in the form of cultural chops that Goans possess; is a
figment of my imagination. Yet, indeed!, I have known gracious people. On
the other hand, we have our own version of the grape vine passing on
scurrilous morsels of information, as long as it is outside the norm.
Again, if one has observed — Goans conveniently hold onto different values,
but soak in the same idea of some homogenous Goaness / Goanity. Something
that, I care to think very little of. And, which I am sure one sees more of
it at Goan conferences and gatherings.

Time, age, consistent training of most kinds toughens or us. I am not water
sodden errant branch that made it to some shore; and a, not even talking
about painting. One knows where one stands, and truly times change. In that
change one expects changes all around. Why not? This is also NOT about art
and recognition. Imagine if someone asks a question to validate their
belief whether someone still feels beaten down — based on having met the
other, in the distant past under poor circumstances. That would be a naked
attempt at manipulating sense and sensibility! Ergo, all one may do is to
avoid pitfalls, but seek possibility. Surely, a condition! A Christian
condition?

Thank you,

[Goanet] New church incorporates Santineketan traditions

Bishop Cyprian Monis inaugurates Infant Jesus Church at Makrampur

His Excellency Bishop Cyprian Monis of Asansol inaugurated Infant Jesus Church
at Makrampur decorated with the style and motifs used by Rabindranath Tagore in
his works, on 18thJanuary, 2018. The centerpiece in the church’s sanctuary is
an imposing banyan tree under which Jesus is seated in lotus position imparting
his teaching and blessings to all. Above the banyan tree is the depiction of
the Spirit of Wisdom and Enlightenment.

As reported by ucanindia.in, An official of the Kolkata-based organization that
designed the Infant Jesus Church remarked

that “We have incorporated local traditions of Santiniketan while trying to
integrate the church decor with the artistic style of Tagore and popular
traditions like open-air classrooms which the poet had started.”

On the right side of banyan tree is the tabernacle enshrined in the traditional
winnowing fan decorated with bamboo background and surrounded by conch shells.
On the left side of the tree is Infant Jesus – the patron of the church. He is
surrounded by mothers bringing their children to Jesus for his blessings. For
the facade of the church, Santhal tribal motifs have been incorporated,
highlighting the local culture and traditions of Birbhum district, an
administrative unit in the Indian state of West Bengal.

belligerent. At least I am not seeing it that way.

There are a lot of things many Goanetters are appreciate of, and they show
it by the way they contribute: share, whether by analysis, original
articles, opinions, and like me tiny observations.
At least the few among the 10,000 plus. The little we say is a way of
appreciation, even the carping.

Over the years, some of you have become the major ball players. Major as in
having managed to keep your independence.
Surely your Labor of Love has brought in some dividends too of various
natures. Lets us just say unique connections.
Now that does not mean erasure of your efforts, not at all. But an
awareness that you stay aware of the good that you do.
I am only referring to the good. And good things happen. That is the
universe speaking for those who are Catholics by virtue of baptism, and
other preferred sacraments!
So be happy. At least Eugene is alive and kicking. Jai Bhim, or insert
saint of choice. Goanet did not simply happen. As a departed friend told me
once: V you are the recipient of energy on the part of many people.
LIKEWISE Goanet, and of course one means you, Marlon et al, and the
volunteers. Zoi to that.

Now some extrapolation, and I will use this post to elaborate something
that has been on my mind!
My being ignored on a few fronts (not to mean by you) has not stopped good
coming towards me, through other conduits. Life goes on, the river changes
course.
Recently, I emailed three Goans / those of Goan origin, in the Literary
world showcasing my interest in doing specific work. Kaim nhu. Perhaps ll
in Spam? Zait goddek. There have been many such instances. Its not about
work per se, but about that conduct — about the famed alegria / joy /
anand, which we profess ourselves to possess. A simple matter of saying:
Hey V, received your stuff. We have no use for your work, or, will keep you
in mind.

Perhaps it has to do with my often blunt, and on occasional colorful (foul)
language. Who died and made people sainted?! I know its hard for people to
celebrate. What is worse is those who want something but do not care to ask
logically. Then there are those who do not know me from shit, and will want
something specific. Thankfully none have come in the near recent past , but
the door can still be walked through with some respect. I put all this out
to say is this about being Goan, or is it what the mind conjured up when
hearing the word …ghanti.” How does one tell people to pull their heads out
from where the sun don’t shine?

So celebrate yourself. You are regarded well. Ot you boinking us pordeshi
for matxo uchambov. :)
Aiz asa faleam nhuim.

Best,
