[Goanet] Two BJP ministers dropped from Parrikar cabinet in Goa

2018-09-24 Thread Gabe Menezes
Coincidentally the C.M. Has been absent since the beginning of this year,
It is on record that he wished to step down. Those in charge have other
ideas? At the end of the day the Goan electorate is between a rock and a
hard place.

Re: [Goanet] Fwd: Indian bishop accused of repeatedly raping nun

2018-09-24 Thread Eddie
Perhaps the nun insisted on making her Confession to the Bishop himself and
the holy Bishop may have agreed eventually.
But who knows whether he refused absolution unless as penance she shared
some intimate moments with him?
One can never know the lofty minds & motives of our saintly senior clerics
these days.

Does Goa's Archbishop have any opinions on the matter?

Any nun as far as I am concerned must be regarded as a no-amen ejaculation
site. They walk a different line. This goes for every being including
children, altar boys, women, girls, mermaids, mermen, farm animals,
orangutans, deer, whatever; and besides, ecclesiastics take a vow of
celibacy. Now please do not tell me how unnatural that is, and why the
church came up with this requirement. A vow dear genius is a vow. Go flip
something, fry something, sell something to massage your libidos.

[Goanet] Evolution of P.C.Trust

2018-09-24 Thread Nelson Lopes
 Evolution of P.C.Trust
The inspiration was promoted by friends, nicknamed sarcastically as
SUNSET COMRADES, It includes Cyril Pereira, Esmeraldo Gomes,Vivian Almeida,
Constance D` Costa , Olavo Cotta, Carmo Lopes and me, who regularly met in
the evenings. An unregistered Organisation "Chinchiim Awards and
Scholarship" was established in late sixties .Christmas Raffle was planned
to raise funds to award cash prize to each student at SSC in all the 3
schools. A letter of appreciation and Rs 50/ distributed from the
proceeds. To- day Trust issues designer Certificates with cash. A photo is
printed with the profiles on the reverse. The other Awards then were in
Science/Social Science ,Konkanni (A.V.C), Fr Oscar award by Chinchinim
Villagers, Text Book fund through` donors. Teacher award and Scholarships
by Dr. Viberto Mascarenhas till completion of Science Degree Course, The
dispersion of friends made continuation of the project difficult. The
funds in deposit over ten years were Rs 25000/. The formulation of new
schemes, raising of funds thorough donations became solely my
responsibility and I pursued with determination
The organisation was Registered as P.C.Trust {People of Chinchinim Trust)
in 2006.The founder Trustees NelsonLopes, Fidelis Pereira,Cypriano Lopes,
Leena Lopes Sorenson Gracias, Two founder Trustees passed away another two
resigned for personal reasons. There is provision to co opt two more
Trustees, but not many are willing to shoulder responsibility.Presently the
Trustees are Leena Lopes, Wilfred Mascarenhas, Kennedy Agusto Pereira,
Shodan Verlekar and myself
The intention of the Trust was to reduce migration of Village students to
the city through incentives. The schools were struggling to
maintain strength. First student claims around 50-60 thousands in awards at
SSC. Students from the village studying elsewhere often inquire of their
eligibility. It is difficult to infer conclusively whether cash incentives
have achieved the purpose, but S.M.A in particular has produced Rank
Holders in SSC, Std XII, Arts/Science. and graduate level. Admission is not
off the shelf, sometimes it is very difficult, if not enrolled early. Cash
incentives are certainly an attraction, inducements and serves as special,
exclusive feature of Chinchinim Village. The appreciation from donors,
beneficiaries, parents, schools and society make our endeavour worthwhile
and purposeful
Schemes.and awards at SSC
There are a number of awards in each category, mostly sponsored and others
founded by contributions.

geographical borders of Chinchinim Village
3-- Teacher awards, for Pre Primary, Primary, Secondary, and Headmaster.
Besides 4 teachers each from 16 DSE schools are honoured annually.

For the first time the Trust has shifted from academic excellence to
promoting deserving students and donors have contributed Rs.42500/ for the
first year of 2 yrs post graduate Course at Goa University. Efforts
continue

The logos of Trusta- Trust logo, Science, Social Science were designed

tax under 80 G. The Trust has published 3 souvenirs giving details etc
Trust has also prepared 4 hand bound magazines of individuals. The Schemes
and activities of P.C.Trust were featured for the first time by Gomantak

From: "Geeta Doctor" < A recent report in _The Times_ on the drinking habits
of British MPs concludes with this anecdote...George Brown, foreign secretary
under Harold Wilson, was famed for his drinking, with perhaps the most
well-known session occurring at a reception on an official visit to Brazil.
Spying an attractive young person in a red dress, he asked for a dance. “There
are three reasons, Brown, why I will not dance with you,” the object of his
affection reputedly replied. “The first, I fear, is that you’ve had too much to
drink. The second is that this is not, as you suppose, a waltz that the
orchestra is playing but the Peruvian national anthem, for which you should be
standing to attention. And the third reason why we may not dance, Mr. Brown, is
that I am the cardinal of Lima.”

[Goanet] FOOTPATH IS BEING PRIVATIZE?

2018-09-24 Thread Stephen Dias
Dear Readers

Sad to say again and again that a local newspaper was unable to cover a
detailed news quite a long time of this footpath which is privatize in the
heart of city and is being misused by not allowing pedestrians to walk.
Earlier another local news daily has published a short news report but
nothing happened. So, I requested this local news daily to expose this
scene where a photograph was sent two weeks back while washing their cars
on this footpath but I am still awaiting for publishing.
Could it be due to some influence from the EDCON & Co. builders who might
have links with the ruling Goverment?
I have even mentioned that the management and students of Don Bosco school
are the worst sufferers as they are unable to use this footpath which is
just opposite to the school and being vital for them to walk before and
after school hours and also pedestrians as well as senior citizens. Their
building security staff, stops the public to walk on this footpath but to
use the roadside. Moreover the owners of this building have barricaded with
the rope and have put signs of No Parking all around. Other vehicles are
seen parked on road just sideways of this footpath thus making still more
difficult for pedestrians to walk.
Only two recent photos taken by me are attached to see how this footpath
looks upon with a nice tiles on it and two enclosures of trees plantation.
CCP was first informed but no action is taken.
TO WHOM WE SHOULD APPROACH TO USE THIS FOOTPATH?

[Goanet] Another Twist in FN Souza's Tale (Times of India, 24/9/2018)

2018-09-24 Thread V M
https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/another-twist-in-f-n-souzas-tale/articleshow/65926381.cms

Today, the rich and famous babble “Souza is my favourite artist”. But
when the great modernist painter (whose ancestral roots are in Goa)
died on a visit to Mumbai in 2002, his passing went virtually
unacknowledged. At that time, the poet and critic Adil Jussawalla
wrote with great ire about “the near-indifference to his death, the
mealy-mouthed praise.” He recalled Souza’s own angry words about his
childhood survival from smallpox, “Better had I died. Would have saved
me a lot of trouble. I would not have had to bear an artist’s
tormented soul, create art in a country that despises her artists and
is ignorant of her heritage.” Jussawalla wrote, “It’s something I read
with great bitterness now.”

Souza died just before the boom in India’s art marketplace rocketed
his prices to the stratosphere, soaring into multiple million dollars
in some instances. But even in those lean years, he realized he was
being ripped off, and fakes were proliferating in his name. In a
now-famous letter dated 20thJune 1997, addressed to the Director of
Sakshi Art Gallery in Mumbai but circulated to many others, he warned
“many unscrupulous persons are dealing in fakes” and after naming a
few of them, said “mark this – a breed of ‘art experts’ have come out
of the woodwork! They give ‘certificates’ for a fee, stating the fakes
are genuine…there are numerous fakes [of my works] in the art market,
not only in India but in Europe.”

Two decades later, with the grand old man no longer vigilant on the
scene, the situation is exponentially worse. Blatant fakes signed with
Souza’s name are everywhere, almost certainly outnumbering originals.
The Indian art marketplace may be worth billions of dollars, but it is
fatally riddled with fraudulence, especially when it comes to the
all-important Progressives and their contemporaries: Husain, Raza,
Tyeb Mehta, and the Goan duo, Souza and Gaitonde. One particularly
brazen example was provided by the fugitive mega-swindler, Nirav Modi.
Before sneaking out of the country a few months ago (on the verge of
being accused of embezzling 1.8 billion dollars) he posed proudly with
his art collection, which was conspicuously studded with fake Souza
paintings. In this instance, no doubt, it was Modi who was scammed.

So what to make of the most recent Souza paintings being offered for
sale, with a flurry of attention across the Indian media (including in
this paper), under the aegis of ‘The FN Souza International Fine Arts
Foundation”. That name is attached to an unconventional website
(fnsouzafoundation.org), where, amidst some fine paintings along with
much more dubious ones, we read the astounding claim that “The Souza
lineage can be traced to the Portuguese royal family. Their roots are
linked to Martim Affonso De Souza, the 12th Governor of Goa, appointed
by Dom Joao the 3rd of Portugal, to rule Goa from 1542 to 1545” and
learn that of the artist’s five children from three marriages,
“Francis Newton Souza’s sole legal heir, Francis Patrick Souza has
dedicated his life, to promote his father’s outstanding art.”

There used to be an earlier website for the Souza estate, run from New
York and mentioning all the children, however that seems to have
disappeared. But the Mumbai Mirror in 2016 reported this family
foundation charges $6000 to authenticate paintings, and quotes the
artist’s “sole legal heir” about “few people claiming to be my
father’s illegitimate children” as well as “we have a database of all
of my father’s work, as well as, one that traces the family’s full
ancestral links to avoid confusion.” But here’s where everything
becomes exceedingly murky. In 2005, leading art dealer Ranjana
Steinrucke told a national newspaper, “Souza’s own son is known to
sell fakes”. In the same story, prospective collector Nisha Jamwal
said, “I contacted FN Souza when his son offered 50 odd Souzas for
only Rs 20,000 each. He wrote back saying all of them were fake.”

[Goanet] QUO VADIS OUR HEADLESS GOA?

2018-09-24 Thread Aires Rodrigues
The Secretariat at Porvorim may be Goa’s seat of Power, but since February
this year the State’s administration has been sought to be governed from
the bed of various hospitals and clinics around the Globe.

>From the Goa Medical College at Bambolim to Mumbai’s Lilavati and then
from Memorial
Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York to Dukle’s clinic at Candolim in
Goa, a beleaguered Manohar Parrikar has been attempting to function as
Chief Minister from them all, with now having finally landed up at the All
India Institute of Medical Science in Delhi after being air lifted there
last week for what we are told is further treatment where is currently kept
in isolation.

With that veil of utter confusion and contradictions on the health of the
Chief Minister, and with Manohar Parrikar desperately clinging on to the
Chief Minister’s Chair which he will just not let go, it is infact our Goa
that has been languishing in a State of Coma without any care while Manohar
Parrikar is hopping around with the Goa Government for over seven months
being run from a hospital bed. God Save our beloved Goa.

Euquerio C J Lopes, leaves a legacy behind
Blessed with long, healthy happy life for his devotion to God and
service to fellowmen
Born to Casmiro Lopes and Maria Assumpta Alemao at Chinchinim,on 20-2-1929
he was the youngest among three brothers and two sisters. The love and
concern for his mother was admirable indeed .He passed away suddenly but
peacefully on 19-9-2018.
He was a self made man, hard working, focused and determined.During school
days and whenever he was in holidays , he engaged himself in field work
,toiling with his parents. After completing SSC, he completed Medical
Orderly Course/Registered Pharmacist at Belgaum and was indebted to his
brother Fabiao for his valuable assistance for his specialised studies. He
served Mackinon Mackenzie, Bombay in the Medical Dept with distinction,
where his services, honesty, sincerity, discipline, punctuality and good
relationships were much appreciated , recognised and praised. He retired
from there with great satisfaction of fulfillment and work well done .He
was known to be very helpful, sympathetic, outgoing to Chinchonkars in
particular undergoing medical examination, prior to joining sea service
.He was very popular and cultivated long lasting friendship with all those
with whom he came in contact . Married to late Mrs Belarmina, he was
blessed with 5 children, two boys and 3 daughters. Nina has taken vows as a
nun, He had to struggle, being the only bread winner to bring them up with
good education. He was very industrious and would undertake masonry ,
carpentry tasks and was a handy man around the house. He would ride to
work on cycle ,purchased in Goa to M.M at Ballard Pier, Bombay, which was
not advisable for safety reasons but he was a challenging personality
willing to take calculated risks. He manufactured bamboo stretchers
filling a need for lowering sick from the ships. It was meticulous, self
taught laborious undertaking work after office hours and on holidays,
It needed skill , patience and sourcing materials in the city of Bombay .
I joined him in buying and selling imported articles, foreign currency too.
He opened and old pant and learned to cut and stitch, but sewing machine
was the hindrance. Together we decided to enroll for music classes, but
unable to purchase instruments and hence had to retreat .However he
practiced violin by self and played it for litanies etc. After retirement
he has also taught himself organ. His residence at Mazagon, Bombay was
small and he needed a bigger place for the family. I was surprised to see
that his friends made it possible by extending financial help without
interest and conditions of repayment. He even offered me money to pay my
fees, when his own requirements did not permit. His attitude of
generosity touched me deeply.
In Bombay he took over as the Manager and founder Trustee of Club of
Dandeavadcares and accredited himself with perfection. He was strict in
enforcement of regulations and looked after the affairs for many years even
from Goa after retirement. His voluntary contributions are well documented
and just cannot be wished away .He was also appointed Manager of various
other clubs because of his efficiency, honesty and reliability. He continued
to be associated with Club and render his expertise needed till the very
end.
He has founded "Union of Chinchinim" organisation with like minded friends
and accumulated a fund of Rs 5 Lakhs plus. His dream to house the elderly
remains to be realised, He has purchased property for the same at
Dandeavado .He was actively involveled in the Management of Holy Cross
Chapel at Dandeavado and also Co- operative Society. He was active
member of Vincent de Paul Society and Couple for Christ. His religious
commitments and charitable disposition are unquestionable. He led ward
children for Carol singing and donated proceeds for charity .He attended
daily mass till the very end and participated in funeral services too. In
the Village his presence was pivotal at litanies, birthdays, and other
celebrations, as he was tasked with raising toasts and offering prayers.
His absence will be very much felt and will be fondly remembered. He
participated in the meetings of Small Christian community of the ward
regularly. During his student days, he has penned Dramas, directed and acted
in them. He refused the proposal to seek Goa Govt. assistance for artist
for which was duly qualified. His love for music and enthusiasm for
dancing even at this late age was admirable. He was full of life and age
was never a factor. He was dressed smartly and carried himself elegantly.
He was the only person of his age riding the cycle to work and church in
the Village. His relationship with old friends remained intact as was seen
by his meetings with them and visitors at his residence. He loved
agriculture, planted trees, worked with his hands and was always busy
keeping surrounding and house clean He was a perfect example of dignity of
