2021-05-14 Thread Roland Francis
The Tamil Nadu explanation sounds plausible except that in Goa:

1. It was recognized that the oxygen ran out because they were short supplied
in the first place.

2. No other hospitals except Bambolim experienced this.

3. More intensive night monitoring is not going to happen because already
doctors and other medical personnel are overworked and exhausted to the bone.

[Goanet] Auschwitz At Bambolim

2021-05-14 Thread Roland Francis
There are strong similarities between the innocent Jewish and Gypsy civilian
deaths at the Treblinka and Auschwitz ‘extermination’ camps in wartime Europe
and the suffocating deaths of hospital Covid patients in the dead of night from
midnight to early morning at a hospital in Goa.

Jewish victims were lined up outside what was called a bathhouse but which was
in reality a gas chamber and each one was handed a fresh towel and bar of soap
to allay their fears and show they were going for a hot shower. Once inside as
everyone knows, the shower spouts were opened to emit cyanide gas and finish
off Hitler’s ‘inferior’ races.
After the dastardly deed of the night was over, the commandant of the death
camp Franz Paul Stangl in the case of Treblinka or Rudolf Hoess in Auschwitz,
would stride in and find out if any improvements could be made in the smooth
despatch of larger numbers as there was increasing pressure on them from Nazi
command to achieve higher targets.

So also in Goa, Covid patients in two wards who were as good as marked for
‘termination’, were put on ventilators connected to oxygen tanks or central
supply that was known to run out after a set number of hours. Suffering
patients however, were happy that they had a shot at improvement and relatives
were relieved that something was being done for them. Of course doctors and
medical personnel were totally unaware of the plan that was hatched at Central
Command.

The die was cast and at the witching hour of midnight, the spouts would open,
in this case close, and the victims would gasp for life-giving air in a replay
of the Nazi death camps of 1944 and 45.
The following morning the camp, sorry health officials would also like in
Poland, stride in and enquire around as to what the problems were, terming them
as in the words of one Commandant “some issues need to be sorted out”. Of
course the real intent was: no intervention is necessary.

In the case of Teblinka and Auschwitz, Russian troops filled with hatred of
Nazis for wreaking havoc on their country, battered their way around the German
cordons and into the death camps, freeing the remaining prisoners and hauling
away the Slav guards and their German officers, to face justice (though to the
Russians, justice and mercy probably meant a bullet to the head).

Who will turn out to be the scales of justice for the Goa hospital Covid dead?

PS: any resemblance of this narrative to actual persons or events in Goa are
purely coincidental. The WWII scenario however, is unfortunately all true.

We can expect  veteran operators to swing into action. One, in Aldona, has
lived off the proceeds of schemes for
much of his life.  Not one to waste an opportunity, he has plunged into action,
both feet first, and raised large sums,
mostly from abroad, I suspect. The community should demand transparency.
Many years ago, he created a fundraiser for a club project, failing to
disclose he was not authorised to act by the

Re: [Goanet] The Goa Crisis

2021-05-14 Thread Rajan Parrikar
A quick follow-up to my note from yesterday.

Why bring this up now? I'll tell you why.

The many folks gnashing their teeth (on WhatsApp and Facebook), ranting
against Goa's ruling class (on WhatsApp and Facebook), and virtue signaling
(on WhatsApp and Facebook) are not serious people. Years ago Goa gave
Manohar-bab a decisive mandate to reset Goa's compass. He had the force of
the Goan people behind him as well as the political capital to bring about
fundamental changes.

The time to stand up and demand accountability was then. Instead, many of
the same folk - now all huffy and puffy on WhatsApp - found every excuse in
the book to look the other way and whitewash the corruption of the Parrikar
government. Remember his tagline "zero tolerance to corruption"? In other
words, all the heat emanating from Goans right now is insignificant noise.
Once this has passed, they'll go back to bangdo and hooman.

Second - procedures, systems, and institutions are not built in a day. You
cannot effectively combat an impossible-to-predict Black Swan event such as
the pandemic we are at war with ad hoc, knee jerk policies.

For years and years Goans have been sold on "DEOLOPMENT." Have you had your
fill of DEOLOPMENT yet?

In a perverse sense, Goans today are getting exactly what they voted for -
incompetent, corrupt, *adharmic* bastards.

Re: [Goanet] The origin and solution to Covid-19

2021-05-14 Thread Francisco Da Costa
I have been a member of Goanet.org for some time now - and read some of the
material
posted from time to time.

When we dare to talk about the Novel Covid-19 pandemic - we must have the
empirical data.
We cannot and should not mix faith with science and think that anything
good will come from such deliberations.

The Novel COVID-19 is being addressed by scientists, doctors, nurses, and
other medical experts as best they can.
Here in the United States the millions of vaccines administered have shown
positive results - in the midst of surges -
in some areas. This pandemic that strikes one every hundred years - has
challenged us all as human beings.

In many areas all over the word - lack of information, ignorance,
superstition - and plain argonance - has played havoc.
It is shocking to hear what is happening in India - millions adversely
impacted, poor health facilities, thousands dying daily -
the many pyres lit - the utter pandemonic to give loved ones what they
deserve according to Hindu traditions.

When we talk about God - some higher power - we take a leap of faith. It is
not for anyone to adjudicate what goes in the
mind, and what really so many are feeling, deep emotions, and pandemonious
reigning supreme - in most cases.

If we are educated on issues - we must uplift one another and that comes
from empathy as opposed to compassion.

When we say we speak some languages - or are a linguist - we must
understand the etymology or science of words.

Intelligent people do not ramble too much - we must be succinct - and we
must also accommodate those human
beings - homo sapiens - that need help at many levels.

I have studied Philosophy and Theology - but also have mastered many other
fields - here in the United States.

Even as millions are vaccinated in the United States after some initial
blunders by the previous Administration -
we are cognizant of the facts - are united, have a blue print - how, we can
move forward quickly and find solutions.

More, when we see the best interests of each other. Here is San Francisco
many of us advocates act - and have
proved that our digital expertise, organizing skills, ability to
communicate in many languages, find different models -
to serve essential workers, the Elders, more, those that are vulnerable. We
have made great strides - and daily
work hard to serve all with humility.

It pays when you have an enlightened and educated constituency - it pays to
have resources - it pays to be
humble and the experience to think outside the box. We cannot compare India
with its very large population -
wide disparity from State to State - and lacking help in many areas:
hospitals, transportation, communication,
qualified skills in logistics, safety, and so on.

This reply is not to confront anyone - I lived in Goa - I studied with the
Jesuits - I know what I am talking about.

India can deliver - we need good leadership - we also can see clearly -
that we must be united - and stop being
arrogant - the current Prime Minister - the one political party - that has
failed India.

God bless India - Bharat - God bless Goa - the Budhist monks once made
their home in Goa - we have a long,
sound tradition. Goans are all over the world - stand tall and represent.

My grandfather witnessed and survived a pandemic in Goa - that plagued
havoc - in many areas - hundreds of years ago.

Today, Goa is poised without resources - even as the United States will
help Goa and other areas.

India has the ability to produce millions of vaccines - linked to one of
kind agreements when it come to manufacturing,
Some of us weeks ago - have initiated petitions - to allow India and other
Nations - who have these proprietary -
with many restrictions - to permit the Nation of origin in this case India
- to make millions of vaccines available to
any Nation facing an emergency. The World Health Organization is on board -
President Joe Biden and his team -
agree - we must help the most vulnerable.

[Goanet] The origin and solution to Covid-19

2021-05-14 Thread Pratap Naik
The origin and solution to Covid-19

These days the entire world is under the grip of pandemic Covid-19. There
are any number of videos, articles, comments from persons of various fields
on Covid-19. Various hypotheses are presented regarding its origin,
spreading, treatment, how to remain safe, what to do and what not to do. At
times these hypotheses are contradicting and confusing. Which are true and
which are false, who will tell us the truth? At present governments blame
people, people hold governments responsible. The game of blaming others is
going on. Some are sending prayer requests for their relatives and friends
who are affected by Covid-19. Some recommend prayers and fasting so that
God may stop this pandemic. Simple folk believe that this pandemic is a
punishment or curse sent by God and therefore only he can deliver us from
it. Some ask, “If there is a God why is he silent? Why can’t he see the
pain and agony of helpless people?” Thousands of questions are raised and
will continue to be raised. No solutions or satisfactory answers. We are
all lost in this tsunami of Covid-19.
I am not a biomedical scientist, or doctor of medicine or from the field of
medicine and health care. I am a linguist. Hence, I cannot talk about the
cause and cure of Covid-19. In linguistics we use terms, surface structure
and deep structure. Rules of transformation change deep structure into
surface structure. From the surface structure, we discover the deep
structure. Using this principle of linguistics, as a Catholic and Jesuit
priest, I tried to discover the deep structure of covid-19 in the Book of
Genesis, chapters 1 and 2 of the Bible. These two chapters narrate how God
created everything including humans using stories. The authors are not
making historical or scientific facts. They are presenting faith statements
based on their reflections, experience and knowledge. There are two
accounts of creation. The Priestly account of creation is in Genesis
1:1-2:4a and the Yahwist account of creation is in 2.4b-25. According to
the priestly account, after creating everything, on the sixth day God
created man and woman in his own image and likeness. God saw everything
that he had made, and behold, it was very good. God blessed man and woman
and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue
it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the
sky, and over every living creature that moves on the earth.” God gave
plants, birds, fishes and animals as food for them. Man was appointed as
God’s administrator. This subduing does not mean exploitation of the
environment by industry, technology, etc. Rather, it means that man has to
overcome every sign of the chaotic forces in various spheres of life, and
lead this world towards its God appointed destiny.
According to the Yahwist account God created earth and heavens, there was
no one to work on the ground. Hence God created man. Later he created
plants and animals. He placed man in the garden of Eden to till it and take
care of it. God commanded the man saying, “You may surely eat of every tree
of the garden, but the tree of knowledge of good and evil you shall not
eat, for the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” Since man was
alone, God then created woman from his rib. The expression “to till the
earth and take care of it (2:15)” need not be restricted only to farming.
It includes every human endeavour to harness the world’s latent energies,
be they material, cultural or spiritual. Man has to help and guide the
world to evolve towards its God appointed perfection. As the story of man’s
life on earth unfolds in the following chapters of Genesis, sin makes its
appearance and seriously impairs the relationship of love and trust between
Adam (man) and Adamah (earth).
Every creature, except we humans, lives by God given instinct to it.
Therefore, no creature really destroys the earth. They live as per God’s
plan and in harmony with nature. God gave human persons the power of
knowledge and free will to choose. Therefore, they filled themselves with
arrogance, pride and all forms of vices and negativity. They exploited the
earth and other creatures for their greed and pleasure. Ten thousand years
ago or even prior to that human persons lived in harmony with nature. There
were no skyscrapers, multistory buildings, aeroplanes, railways, steamers,
vehicles, large bridges, electricity, nuclear energy, industry, factories,
modern gadgets, large cities, smart cities, mining, bombs, rockets, and
modern war equipment, pesticide, plastic, production of chemicals, garbage,
etc. Life was really simple. Mostly people lived in villages and forest
areas. They breathed fresh air, worked in fields. Agriculture was the
dominant occupation. Hunting was done exclusively for food. They ate fresh
food, drank water from the streams or well and used herbal medicines. They
lived in harmony with their tribe and the earth. Since they worked hard,
their

FIRST PRIORITY OF GOVERNMENT IS PROTECTING PEOPLE'S LIVES
The Supreme Court observes figures given to various courts on same subject are
various! With 71 bodies alegedly thrown into the Ganga from UP and washed
ashore in Bihar, and many bodies being discovered buried in the sand, no one
knows the exact figures of the dead and if from Covid! The priority of
government was winning elections and safety of people came last! People are
dying due to this attitude of absololute neglect of healthcare, more so in
villages, resulting in shortage of oxygen, ventilators, ambulances. Government
says no shortage, but excuses of technician/doctors, transport, equipment
shortages etc ie pure maladministration! This whilst plenty of ventilators
purchased under PM Cares Fund found unused in hospitals, and 30 brand new
ambulances found unused for months covered. When Minister concerned confronted,
he blithely says not 30 but 20 and he couldnt get drivers!Twenty unemployed
drivers flashing their driving lisences immediately shown on TV. Such
disgusting politics, arrogance and criminal negligence as a result of which
innocent people are dying is unbelievable! The High Court in Goa has bluntly
told the government that they are in violation of Art 21 of the Constitution
and people dying in GMC for lack of oxygen is unacceptable! Projection of
number of cylinders required given by the under secretary differs from that
given by the Dean. Such a mess in procuring and vaccinating everyone. Centre
allocates, States to procure directly, different pricing , governemnt and
private hospitals, riduculous that for procuring foreign vaccines a State has
to bargain with a foreign supplier etc. Most foreign nations are vaccinating
free and it is shameful that our government has plenty of funds for elections
and vanity projects and buildings, but none to save lives of its citizens which
should be first priority.Centre procuring and negociating, distributing free
vaccines for all was the answer to save people's lives quickly! Our recent
democratic governments have been self serving with wrong priorities, and the
electorate have not been able to bring them and themselves down to ground
realities. The Centre has the gall to tell the SC not to interfere in
governance matters. Unfortunately the SC has been towing the government line
emboldening them and now that Justice Chandrachud is down with Covid, the CJI
should have taken over and told the executive where it gets off! Not doing so
and permitting the executive to keep chipping away its powers , the SC will not
be able to be the guardian of the Constitution and public interest. Despite so
many dead bodies resulting, the present comparative complacency of government,
having to be pulled up by the courts, is criminal neglect responsible for
present state of affairs.

[Goanet] URGENT: GOA Covid Emergency Fund by Goa Sudharop

2021-05-14 Thread George Pinto
Dear Goans:

As you know the COVID crisis in Goa is beyond dire and this is no time to stand
on the sidelines. We have to help, ALL of us. Goa Sudharop is a non-profit/NGO
based in the USA and is directly assisting with helping Goa and Goans in this
crisis. Since the pandemic began last year, we have been providing various
assistance, medical equipment, supplies and other COVID assistance.

In the midst of the ongoing COVID devastation in Goa which cannot be adequately
described, every day brings new tragic news. Today one of our Goa Sudharop
volunteers in Goa informed us that a young father (a poor day-laborer) died of
COVID in hospital, his wife is also in another hospital with COVID and
hopefully recovers, at least for the sake of their young now-orphaned sons,
ages 8 & 9.5 years. The kids are alone and no neighbor or relative comes by,
not wanting to possibly contract the virus. This pandemic may not be the new
version of hell, but it is some version and perhaps the Gods of our Goan people
have temporarily resigned, retired or quit entirely.

The need now is for oxygen concentrators, tanks, oximeters, medical supplies
and other Covid related help. Please make a donation of any amount, no amount
is too small. Donations are tax-deductible for USA residents.

Please donate at this link  https://www.goasudharop.net/donate

Make this moment count. Give Goans a chance at life, there is so much loss of
life which is very sad and heartbreaking. Please help us make a difference !
From all the Goa Sudharop volunteers working on the front lines in Goa and
those who will benefit - a big thank you in advance for your generosity.

If you have already given to our Emergency Fund, thank you. If you have not
because you are giving to other similar causes or helping privately, thank you
for all you do. If you simply have not gotten around to giving, please do so.
When our children or grandchildren ask someday "what did you do in the
pandemic?", our answer should be worthy of them.

Re: [Goanet] [Goanet-News] ‘Tauktae’ ... a cyclone not far from Goa

2021-05-14 Thread Damodar Mauzo
Let's hope that the Govt will take due care to see that all the hospitals
and the health centres get uninterrupted power supply during the probable
cyclonic condition. Or we will be forced to witness many more covid deaths.

[Goanet] Free distribution of Ivermectin

2021-05-14 Thread Nelson Lopes
FREE DISTRIBUTION OF IVERMECTIN

Is there any merit in aggressively pushing Ivermectin as a drug of unproven
credentials against Covid19., except that is available free .The
manufacturers made no such audacious claims anywhere, just like initial
euphoria of Chloroquin .No nation is known to advocate Ivermectin. Then
Why Goa Govt is pushing it?

It is called wonder drug from Japanese microorganism in 1970 in
collaboration with Merck and only source of Invermectin . It is effective
derivative from Avermectin. It was highly effective, veterinary drug for
internal and external parasites It treated mites, lice, ticks in live
stocks , pets. It is a effective broad spectrum drug with low toxicity
and resistance free over 2o years in use

In 1988, Ivermectin used in human health .Onchocerciasis was ravaging,
predominantly Africa and some other countries. The bite of infected black
river fly that led to blindness due to invasion of microfilariae in the eye
besides other serious skin lesions. It is marketed under brand name of
Mectizen and effective against round worms,, lung worms, , anti parasitic
drug of choice against internal external nematodes, arthropods. A single
dose of 150 u/Kg, orally , wipes out the disease and repeat dose ensures
complete relief. The only other effective drugs like DEC, Surinam are
highly toxic and aerially sprayed to kill the larvae. Ivermectin is safe,
versatile, and beneficial with least side effects , quick elimination and
long term suppression over 2 years. Invermectin is effective against
lymphatic Filariasis or Elephant disease

Hence it’s a potent anthelmintic drug of choice with no known side effects
of over two decades in use

[Goanet] Shortage today, 'promise' of plenty day after tomorrow: India’s Covid vaccine crisis (May 14th 2021)

2021-05-14 Thread AF P
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dg_7sO84vOs

Shekhar Gupta analyses India's declining vaccination numbers and tells
you how the central government erred in its inoculation strategy, by
creating mass demand for vaccines without enough supply, and causing
an embarrassing paradox for Indian states as they now compete in the
global market for more doses.

[Goanet] I’ll Keep On My Mask, Thank You

2021-05-14 Thread Roland Francis
After Trump played musical chairs with top positions in the Centre For Diseases
Control, the behaviour of the CDC has become not less erratic than his.

We in Canada are far from achieving the vaccinated numbers of our neighbour
down south but even after we do, I’ll be the contrarian wearing the mask.

Knowing the penchant of many Americans and some Canadians to avoid the vaccine
for a hundred silly reasons, do you think I’m going to believe that all the
unmasked people I will see around me have all been vaccinated?

No, thank you.

From the CNN:
Suddenly, and surprisingly, Americans are taking off their masks.

The country’s top public health body, the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, announced stunning new guidance that fully vaccinated people no
longer need to cover their faces in most situations, indoors or outside. Hugs
and handshakes are back too!

In the middle of a meeting, President Joe Biden -- who has scrupulously
observed CDC guidance -- took off his own mask. “Free at last,” said Republican
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. “We feel naked,” added a maskless first
lady Jill Biden during a trip to West Virginia.

Officials said the move was justified because recent scientific data
increasingly shows that vaccinated people are not only highly protected, but
also unlikely to spread Covid-19 to anybody else. The announcementwas one of
the most important and moving moments of the pandemic, at least since vaccines
emerged. The mask, which has covered up the world’s smiles, had long been a
symbol of the deprivations of a terrible year. “I think it’s a great milestone,
a great day,” Biden said.

But the CDC’s decision immediately raised a flurry of questions and
consequences, including a debate over whether an agency often criticized for
being too cautious had suddenly gone too far.

Roland.
