[Goanet] Cow protection
Cow protection The constitution in the wisdom of framers of the document provides for protection It is considered holy and revered and it does not affect any one.Cows. after their useful , productive, period have been slaughtered giving income to the owners The constitution does not empower overzealous bakts to lynch people to death in most inhuman way in the name of cow. When cowssalas or protective homes are provided for such cows ,the owners need to be compensated. It costs to maitain after ther productive period is over and it is not economical. .The conditions in these shelters are pathetic as has been shown. Those who run are not bakts but motivated by profits and not love for the sacred animal .The cow received this status due to life sustaining milk as byproduct. One ex chief Justice of India has openly declared that he does not believe that cow is God and not one person had expressed dissent or vandalized his home. If cow is so sacred and is to be adored and worshipped then every loyal Hindu should adopt one to show their reverence and devotion Now in comparison what reverence and respect we should givev to .women We owe our very existence to them. She is a giver of life.Women are raped ,murdered for dowry ,trafficked. GIRLS are killed before birth. The conditions of widows , destitutes are pathetic and no homes for them are established . Women are treated as slaves at home.Girls are denied education, health care because they are considered as liability. Does women need to be wotshipped adored more than the cow,? The cow has shelter in old age, where are the provisions for elderly, widows, destitutes .No grants for their upkeep and maintenance She is mo more a Devi. The example of Devi status is withdrawn after pubity and no one will even come closer or look at her later. SHE is an untouchable , forsaken ,who was once adored and worshipped In India does cow receive preferential treatment more than woman ,mother, sister, girl ? Or she is just an object of lust devoid of respect and gratitude for role We adore worship many deities as Devies but in real life the position of women is despicable In recent times with legislation , education employment, dowry and child marriages, sex detremination test bans, women empowerment, doles etc their lot has improved but not respect due to them Nelson Lopes Chinchinim

[Goanet] Capitalism’s Sordid Side
The Pandemic like no other, has shown the dark side of a system the world favours. Opinion by Peter Coy The rash of flight cancellations over the winter break — is it a major blunder by the airlines or the forgivable consequence of the outbreak of Omicron? I looked into this over the past couple of days and my conclusion is that it’s a little of each. First, the case against the airlines. They’re running with a precariously low ratio of employees to passengers, which leaves themselves vulnerable to surprises like Omicron, the more contagious new variant of the virus that causes Covid-19, which drastically thinned the ranks of flight crews. This fall, some airline executives even bragged to Wall Street analysts about how they were able to do more with less — providing more flights per employee. “We estimate that we can fly a schedule 10 percent larger than 2019 with the same number of employees we needed in 2019,” Gerald Laderman, the chief financial officer of United Airlines Holdings, told analysts on the company’s third-quarter earnings call on Oct. 20. Robert Isom, the president of American Airlines, told analysts on Nov. 10 that his company had reduced costs by $1.3 billion and was flying with about 10 percent fewer planes while offering about the same capacity as before the pandemic. On Dec. 16, Edward Bastian, the chief executive of Delta Air Lines, told analysts that even though his company had hired back fewer people than it lost during the pandemic, “Our staffing is exactly where I wanted to be,” given the level of traffic. Airlines have been reducing the ratio of employees to passengers for years. According to data I downloaded from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the number of passengers departing from or arriving at U.S. airports rose 53 percent from January 2003 to January 2020, just before the pandemic, while full- and part-time employment by airlines rose only 15 percent over the period. But the case against the airlines isn’t just that they were unprepared; it’s also that they received lots of public money to help them stay prepared. Congress gave airlines $54 billion in grants over the past two years to make sure they remained well staffed so that they could continue to serve their vital function of getting people from place to place. To get the money, they had to accept strict limits on layoffs, dividends, stock buybacks and pay increases for senior executives. They were, however, permitted to reduce head count through early-retirement incentives and voluntary furloughs. They did, and those job cuts have been only partially reversed. So passengers — who also tend to be taxpayers — were angry when in spite of that generous federal aid, the number of flight cancellations jumped during the winter holiday season. After about 100 to 200 cancellations a day for most of December, the number of daily cancellations jumped to 1,627 on Dec. 26, 1,511 on Dec. 27 and 1,283 on Dec. 28, according to Airlines for America, a trade group. That made life miserable for thousands of stranded travelers. In July, nearly half a year before the latest spate of cancellations, Senator Maria Cantwell, Democrat of Washington, who heads the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, wrote letters to the six biggest carriers asking about an outbreak of cancellations during the summer. In a news release she said “the reported work force shortage runs counter to the objective and spirit” of the federal aid program. So the airlines can’t say they weren’t warned. All that said, I can’t put all the blame on the airlines. The contagiousness of Omicron caught almost everyone off guard, not just airline executives. A staffing plan that made sense for the Delta variant proved inadequate against Omicron. Also hard to predict was the strength of the rebound in demand for air travel. A surprising number of people seem to be tired of staying home and are willing to fly in spite of the risk of getting infected. That’s a big change from earlier in the pandemic, when staffing was down but it didn’t matter because traffic was also down; it briefly plunged 90 percent from prepandemic levels. The steep decline in traffic last year inflicted huge operating losses on the airlines that were only partly mitigated by federal aid. “They were in crisis mode,” said Kathleen Bangs, a former airline pilot who is a spokeswoman for FlightAware, a flight-tracking company. “They were just doing everything they could to survive. They were surprised by how fast the recovery was.” Richard Aboulafia, a vice president of the Teal Group, an aviation consulting firm, agrees. “They’ve just been through the worst bust in the history of aviation,” he said. “They’re quite fragile.” Furthermore, the long-run decrease in the ratio of airline employees to passengers isn’t necessarily proof that understaffing is responsible for flight cancellations, said Savanthi Syth, an analyst for

[Goanet] Kokum Curry restaurant - Round 3
One of the key tests of a restaurant is consistency. After 3 rounds at Kokum Curry, I’m happy to report that the offerings have been remarkably uniform. I still can’t quite believe that we have an establishment of this calibre in Goa, owned and operated by Goans. Given the degradation and dismal state of virtually every metric of life in Goa, this is a rare spot of bright. Pro tip: Show up at the stroke of 12 noon when the restaurant opens for lunch. By the time you are served, it will be around 12:35 pm. This way you beat the 1 pm crowd. [Goanet] Ghar vapsi
Ghar vapsi The central Govt and state Govt have enacted stringent anti conversion laws to stop so called bogey of conversions Where are the statistics of people being converted either to Muslim or Christian faith The complaint of any allurements coercion must be lodged by person being converted if one is not a minor. Provide the figures region wise to support basis for legislation There might be some aberrations here and there and that does not indicate a so called mass conversions ,reducing Hindus to minority as a result Does statistics and population survey support such a presumptive hypothetical assumption. AT least Christiana now under attack have not shown increase in their population on the contrary are declining in numbers. The bogey of rare examples of so called love jihad is to publicly demonize Muslims Then will Govt ban by law interreligious marriages which are more prevalent then conversions of the day? .The couples are free to retain their own faith and live peacefully in the union even though they may adhere to individual marriage customs and religious rituals Does the constitution of India give freedom to individuals to exercise their right as to their choice of freedom of religion or not? After all religion is a personal matter for the individual to decide, not state to legislate and enforce How do we all belong to a particular religion by design or Choice? We all belong to a particular religious faith by the virtue of being born in the family of that religion and not by choice or by conscious decision. There are individuals born in a particular faith, as adults are atheist, and do not practice any tennets or live their religious faith and belief. THEY may not follow customs and traditions either Will then the Govt enact a law that every individual will practice their religion of birth by forceful dictates of law? Is it Divine if people of other faiths embrace Hinduism. Many renowned Hindu organisations are attracting foreigners into their holds by holding such centres in various parts of the world and located in India.Does it enrich Hinduisn or pollute the spirit and essence of Hinduism. In which part of Christian world are Hindus banned to entice people to their faith? There are conditions like notice to Dist collector months in advance and cooling period before embracing it Incentives like inducements, alurements, force, coercion , threats are listed as reasons Why do same rules not apply to Ghar vapsi equally and desirable Once the person is baptized by the ceremony in no way he can be recoverted if one does not follow rituals and religious customs The rules for reconversions or Ghar Vapsi should be the same. IT is noticed that force coercion, abuse threats ate reused for Ghar Vapsi, which is deplorable too.The same rules be applied in reverse in fairness and justice Nelson Lopes Chinchinim

[Goanet] SAD STATE OF AFFAIRS
The traffic signals at the Ribandar-Chimbel junction on the Panaji-Old Goa highway which were installed earlier this year have not been functioning for the last many months. This junction has been very perilous with so many fatal accidents and precious lives lost. Suddenly and miraculously the signals had started working on 5th September, the day President Ram Nath Kovind arrived in Goa. And once again stopped functioning in a few days. The state of the roads across Goa are also a matter of great concern. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had solemnly promised that all the roads in Goa would be free of potholes by 1st November. But Pramod Sawant has failed to deliver even on this assurance with potholes galore across Goa. Despite the Bombay High Court having ruled that good and properly maintained roads are a Fundamental Right of every citizen, this so very insensitive Government has allowed the roads to deteriorate to an extremely pathetic condition. The Panaji-Ribandar causeway has developed potholes within days of it being recently hot-mixed. The authorities don’t seem to care for the hardship faced especially by two wheelers on account of the pothole ridden roads. To add to the misery people have to also navigate around the stray cattle and dogs which have merrily infested our roads and even the Highways. Adv.
