(I was questioning business and work ethics my friend, MD)
I said:
1. Gulfees do not know how to do business, they only know to work and save
2. In general Goan Christians do not want to take risk
Ghantis did not have any money (they borrow it), if they lose - they had
nothing in the first place
SO THEY WORK HARD TO MAKE SURE THEY DO NOT LOSE IT.
3. Goans prefer to go to Parties for Party's sake. While Ghantis will
utilise every social occasion (including Religious) to exchange ideas and
get contacts for business.
-
(I think Cajetan should have a look at the bank profit andloss account to
know why exactly banks lend on a higher rate ofinterest and pay lesser
percentage in interest to depositors(overheads, my friend). MD.)

Selma, I think Soter is correct and he is NOT jealous.

Goans investing in Bank deposit is not the answer
Who uses that money is more important
And, Goans are not clever in INVESTING

And, Goans who have opened shops in Panjim are not interested in
business/customers either.
Their policy is - I've got a shop, if you want to buy - buy - if not get
out Pig headedness
while the outsiders will bend backwards to get your money out of your
pocket.

Bhaile have come to Goa to survive, they cannot afford to sit on their hands
like the Goans do, and go to their ancestral home.

People borrowing pay more to the bank than depositors for interest.
NEVER BORROW NEVER LEND - is ingrained in Goan peoples mind

I had replied to an article by Anil Desai about Court decision in favour of
Muslims in India.
I got a reply that my article was not Goa related.

Obviously there are NO MUSLIM living in Goa.

If there are, then Goans should know about What Islam Teaches, via Muslims
(ex) themselves.
Simplest way was (in the age of internet, for Goans to expand their
knowledge) to at least know that there is a site on the internet-
www.faithfreedom.org -and let Goans decide.
If there are Muslims in Goa, freedom of speech demands that Goans should
know what their Quran says. Why live in the dark about Muslims?
There is a $50,000/- reward for shutting that site down, shouldn't Goans
have the right to claim it too?
Let Goans decide.

* *(

*New Delhi: *US intelligence agencies have alerted the Union home ministry
about possible26/11-type terrorist strikes on coastal states such as
Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka. The warning came a few weeks ago, home
ministry sources said.

The alert points to two possible scenarios. One is a sea-borne attack
originating from the Iranian port of Chabahar, a free-trade area being
developed with assistance from New Delhi, said the sources. The port is a
hub for fishing trawlers, especially those belonging to a Pakistani
syndicate. The other scenario is that Pakistani terrorists could seize Indian
fishing trawlers and use them to strike.

The two possibilities have been discussed by Indian agencies over the past
few days. Navy sources say it is almost impossible for terrorists to travel
all the way from Chabahar to Mumbai, or to another city on the Indian coast,
to launch an attack. It would take a minimum of four days to travel through
the high seas, which are regularly patrolled by world navies because of
heightened piracy activities in the area.

The BSF has also raised an alert about a possible intrusion by terrorists
through the Sir Creek area. According to the BSF, the disputed area is the
most vulnerable spot, and it would only take a few hours for a group of
terrorists to sneak into India from the Pakistani side.

Reply via Aiyer Family of Tamil Nadu:

This is written by Swaminathan S Anklesaria Aiyer, about himself. Published
in The Times of India.

In 1992, I wrote a book titled Towards Globalisation. I did not realise at
the time that this was going to be the history of my family.

Last week, we celebrated the wedding of my daughter, Pallavi. A brilliant
student, she had won scholarships to Oxford University and the London School
of Economics. In London, she met Julio, a young man from Spain. The two
decided to take up jobs in Beijing, China. Last week, they came over from
Beijing to Delhi to get married. The wedding guests included 70 friends from
North America, Europe and China.

That may sound totally global, but arguably my elder son Shekhar has gone
further. He too won a scholarship to Oxford University, and then taught for
a year at a school in Colombo. Next he went to Toronto, Canada, for higher
studies. There he met a German girl, Franziska.

They both got jobs with the International Monetary Fund in Washington DC,
USA. This meant that they constantly travelled on IMF business to disparate
countries. Shekhar advised and went on missions to Sierra Leone, Seychelles,
Kyrgyzstan and Laos. Franziska went to Rwanda, Tajikistan, and Russia. They
interrupted these perambulations to get married in late 2003.

My younger son, Rustam, is only 15. Presumably he will study in Australia,
marry a Nigerian girl, and settle in Peru.

Readers might think that my family was born and bred in a jet plane. The
truth is more prosaic. Our ancestral home is Kargudi, a humble, obscure
village in Tanjore district, Tamil Nadu. My earliest memories of it are as a
house with no toilets, running water, or pukka road.

When we visited, we disembarked from the train at Tanjore, and then
travelled 45 minutes by bullock cart to reach the ancestral home. My father
was one of six children, all of whom produced many children (I myself had
three siblings). So, two generations later, the size of the Kargudi extended
family (including spouses) is over 200. Of these, only three still live in
the village. The rest have moved across India and across the whole world,
from China to Arabia to Europe to America.

This one Kargudi house has already produced 50 American citizens. So,
dismiss the mutterings of those who claim that globalisation means
westernisation. It looks more like Aiyarisation, viewed from Kargudi.

What does this imply for our sense of identity? I cannot speak for the whole
Kargudi clan, which ranges from rigid Tamil Brahmins to beef-eating,
pizza-guzzling, hip-hop dancers. But for me, the Aiyarisation of the world
does not mean Aiyar domination. Nor does it mean Aiyar submergence in a
global sea. It means acquiring multiple identities, and moving closer to the
ideal of a brotherhood of all humanity. I remain quite at home sitting on
the floor of the Kargudi house on a mat of reeds, eating from a banana leaf
with my hands. I feel just as much at home eating noodles in China, steak in
Spain, teriyaki in Japan and cous-cous in Morocco. I am a Kargudi villager,
a Tamilian, a Delhi-wallah, an Indian, a Washington Redskins fan, and a
citizen of the world, all at the same time and with no sense of tension or
contradiction.

When I see the Brihadeeswara Temple in Tanjore, my heart swells and I say to
myself “This is mine.” I feel exactly the same way when I see the Church of
Bom Jesus in Goa, or the Jewish synagogue in Cochin, or the Siddi Sayed
mosque in Ahmedabad: these too are mine. I have strolled so often through
the Parks at Oxford University and along the canal in Washington, DC, that
they feel part of me. As my family multiplies and intermarries, I hope one
day to look at the Sagrada Familia cathedral in Barcelona and Rhine river in
Germany and think, “These too are mine.”

We Aiyars have a taken a step toward the vision of John Lennon. Imagine
there's no country, It isn't hard to do. Nothing to kill or die for, And no
religion too.

My father's generation was the first to leave the village, and loosen its
regional shackles. My father became a chartered accountant in Lahore, an
uncle became a hotel manager in Karachi, and we had an aunt in Rangoon.

My generation loosened the shackles of religion. My elder brother married a
Sikh, my younger brother married a Christian, and I married a Parsi. The

[Goanet] Why blame Charles Darwin?

2009-10-04 Thread Cajetan Alvares

Exactly,
Why blame him? For all the ills in this world?
For a start Muslims say Adam and Eve were Muslims, and Darwin's monkey
theory is BS.
Darwin kept silent for 20 years and had kept his book with his daughter for
safe keeping in case he died. Yet, after 20 years they called him and us
'monkey's uncle', we blame him for AIDS and Swine flue too.
(And now, homosexuality in Goa - what next?)
The monkey theory was invented by his contemporaries who did not understand
what he actually wrote, and the tabloid cartooned him monkey face to
ridicule him.
In the Origin of Species, page 424 he clearly wrote that every thing
originated from a single cell.
After 20 years he published his book purely because he said, what his
contemporaries were saying to day was declared by him ages ago.
Why did he hide his book? because, after he had explained his theory to his
ships Captain (who was a dedicated Bible puncher), committed suicide.
If people want to know more about Darwin they can log on to BBC iPlayer, at
the moment there is a repeat of his series.
Caj.

-Why blame Charles Darwin?By Patrick FerdinandMr. Bernard Simoes had written
a diatribe against Charles Darwin andhis monumental work ‘The Origin of
Species’, three weeks ago on thisvery page of the Sunday herald Mirror(13

afflicted mankind since itspublication, 150 years ago.

Hi,
You are absolutely correct to say that the lower ranks will be the
sacrificial goat.

The only solution is to bring the hierarchy to book like in other parts of
the world, for example:

.

The question is. Who will bell the cat?
Will the Indian Montrees agree to this type of questioning, wherby they will
be found guilty?

Sorry Selma, the word sorry is very commonly used by the UK Ministers who
are humble enough to recognise their mistake.
ALL Goan MLAs are beyond that, they do not know the meaning of the word,
they think it is a humiliating word for the MLAs to use.
After all they are treated like gods in Goa, Goans pleading with them to

Dear Fr Ivo,
Try as much as I can, I cannot agree with you that Homosexuality is an
activity. I am not siding with Santosh or any one else here, this is just my
derivation.
A fetus is female for 7 week, something triggers in the womb that changes
female fetus to male (in crocodiles it is the sun that heats the sand, those
in the shade are female).
Therefore something has gone wrong (regarding sex formation) in a woman's
body (if I may put it that way).
This triggering in the womans body can also go wrong and children are born
with eight or 6 limbs or numerous nipples (like that of an animal) etc.
Try as much as I can I cannot act (activity) as a Homosexual (waving arms
and wriggling by bottom and doing a funny talk for more than 5 minutes, its
tiring).

---
Your memory has served you right (I knew you would get at me some later

There is a big difference -- You have to see the broader picture.

Exorcism is spiritualsm without blood letting and no offering of virgins at
the high alter, plus it is voluntary activity on a person who is
psychologically trumatised, no forced labour or sacrificial offerings.

Just focing naked virgins to plough the field? It just doesn't end there.

Ah, I've always said I have a long memory on Goanet :-)Now, let me put in as
succintly as I can:1. Men believe, making young girls dance naked, will
appease the rain-God.2. Men believe, letting young girls have convulsions,
will rid them of the devil possessing their body.Is there any tangible
difference between the two? No, both are irrational beliefs and the reason
we know they are irrational is because our body of knowledge has expanded.
It is just a matter of educating people to expand their body of knowledge.
With education comes change. Best,Selma
---
I knew you had a bone to pick with me (long time coming, I was waiting) I
too have a long memory.
Thanks for putting Pagan Rituals and Pota in the same bracket.

Belief in Paganism does not mean decent moral code of conduct has to be
ignored.
Your No 2. Yes, there is a huge difference, all girls do not want to take
their clothes off (even men for that matter).
Not all girls have convulsions (even educated people have convulsions, they
just get hypnotised).

All girls in that village were forced by the elders to strip if not they are
beaten, I have lived in Madhya Pradesh Jungle Mines for 5 years, I know the
punishment.

When I was in Pota one man started talking in tongues, no one else, his
sister said I knew he would do that (are you saying he and his sister are
not educated, he is a business man and she a teacher).
It is a choice to get psychologically traumatised, his sister chose not to
(education has nothing to do with convulsions).
Another woman started crying hysterically, she was removed, for being a
nuisance.
Another Hindu man came marching up to the alter and prostrated (attention
seeking) (that Hindu man was in the same bus with us).

Your No 3. Yes, our body willing to except knowledge should be educated. But
who will take on that task?
Certainly the Hindus have not done that as yet (2009), instead they kill the
missionaries who try to educate them.
Shouldn't the educated Hindus instead of going to the Banaras or the
Himalayas for personal purification of going to heaven, help the priests (I
mean to at least tell the people that these Priests do not BITE and see for
themselves too that these priests do not instigate violence; instead they
choose to talk big on Internet).

Its OK for FN to say let people believe in whatever they want to, if so, why
Afghanistan and Iraq?
If Hindus do not want to educate people in this 21st century of ours. What
chance have these people got?

Last of all, to have convulsions or not, it is a personal choice,(some do,
some dont).
There are young people who will marry outside their cast (or whatever) JUST
to annoy authority - these people will never get convulsion no matter how
much you try, instead they will give you one. That is the difference.
Caj.
Selma, after studying astrology (out of curiosity) - (Sir Isac Newton said
to his friends if you have not studied astrology do not comment - I have).
I now know that you cannot change a person's psyche, if they are vulnerable
to be hypnotised they will, Daren Brown picks one out of 100 to be
hypnotised, because he knows they can be manipulated.

long before Democracy came into existence and Govt Ministers took over from
the Priests.
People paid 10% to the Priests (ministers) now a days we pay 20% to 30% to
the Govt ministers.

1, Why can't priests have a say in the running of the country if they see
that the country is badly run?
God and Caesar is out of context here (God and Caesar question was put to
Jesus on matter of paying this Tax - if 10% goes to the church why should we
pay Tax to Caesar as well - the answer was simple - that which has Caesar's
head on it (the coins) give it to Caesar, Jesus said.)

2. Where does Shivaji come into this I don't know. Shivaji did not have
Ministers in his Cabinet.

Hi Gab,
Rest assured it has nothing to do with Girann.

Remember Able and Cain story?
One of them painted his cattle drinking water 'trough' red and all the new
born were red in skin and hair?
Similarly when women have niggling doubts about the after effects,
phsychologial trauma takes over.

Secondly, if you look at some peoples ears - some have dangly ear lobes
others have it attached to the face.
This is due to the DNA (I forget the name of it) specifically dealing with
ear lobes.

A true story:
In UK a Reverend (Priest) had a pear tree in his garden, That tree gave only
one fruit, he eyed it loving hoping that he will eat it one day.
By the way his ancestors were Gypsies.
When it did ripen someone ate it.
He cursed (Gypsy curse) saying I wish that their children and grand children
will have NO FINGERS. He was very upset.

His wife was pregnant at that time. (I repeat, this is a true story)
When his wife gave birth, the child had no fingers, just stumps as fingers.
She did confess to her priest husband that it was her who ate that fruit,
she could not tell him because she had gone to market that morning eating
that fruit on the way, by the time she came back - he had already cursed
that person.

Now, there are several people of the same family with stumps as fingers.
Was it a curse? - NO!
They all gathered, a family reunion, via the Internet - AS SHOWN ON TV
DOCUMENTARY.
Their DNA was taken, All children in the families did not have stumps.
All those who had, had the same DNA defect.

They were relieved that it was not a curse after all.

Santosh's article of:
http://www.nytimes.com/1991/05/02/garden/planting-by-the-full-moon-bright-idea-or-lunacy.html
When I was 4 I'd go out with my grandmother, and we'd always try to plant
potatoes on the full moon, said Michael Petitt, 25 years old, who grew up
in the hills of Kentucky. And we'd plant pole beans and corn and grasses on
the full moon, for faster germination.

But don't plant anything when the moon is absolutely dark. That's when
plants should rest, and a good time to kill weeds because they won't grow
back.

Now the moon is on the wane. Flowering bulbs and vegetables that bear crops
below ground should be planted during the DARK of the Moon, says the 1991
Old Farmer's Almanac. That is, from the day after it is full to the day
before it is new again.

Santosh,
This is as rubbish as rubbish can be. The above paras contradict each other
Farmers plant their seed on a New Moon - not bloody full moon.
Why? the moon after new begins to grow towards Full, so does the spirit of
the plants and insects.
When the Full moon wanes, so does the spirit of the insects and the plants,
therefore anything planted on Full will die.
For humans and others the rising of the sun gives us strength, for the
nocturnal beings and 'plants that creep at night', get their energy from the
moon.
Santosh - 'do not' look to the West - look to the East, MAN!

And, do not believe every thing that is written in the news papers, you
yourself said yesterday that the likes of FN Journalists should go for
psychotherapy for believing in the moon.
These journalist write articles to fill pages, it is not just Navhind times
that does that - you know.

Santosh, learn some Astrology, man (just for curiosity, if nothing else -
give google and wicki, wiki, some rest).

Another quote from the above article:
The moon is 238,000 miles away from us, which is very close, he said
politely. The nearest star is four light-years away, and that light would
not have an effect on plant life.

Answer to that is:
Astrology in Egypt came to prominence when they observed that they could
predict the flooding of the river NILE. and save lives and belongings from
the flood, they observed that when the moon enters the constellation of
Ashwini flooding takes place.

[Goanet] Solar eclipse pits superstition against science

2009-07-21 Thread Cajetan Alvares
Hi Seb,
A few corrections if I may?

1. In Hindu mythology, the two demons Rahu and Ketu are said to swallow
the sun during eclipses, snuffing out its life-giving light and causing food
to become inedible and water undrinkable.
Gods being gods, they win the battle against the demons.

2. Shivani Sachdev Gour, a gynaecologist at the Fortis Hospital in New
Delhi, said a number of expectant mothers scheduled for caesarian deliveries
on July 22 had asked to change the date.
-Even in the West, surgeons have realised that excessive bleeding takes
place on full moo days and only serious cases are carried out with stock of
blood.

3. An Indian political leader could be killed, he said, and tension between
the West and Iran is likely to increase, escalating into possible US
military action after September 9, when fiery Saturn moves from Leo into
Virgo.
In fact Saturn is not fiery it is cold hottest among the 10 Planets
being the Sun and the coldest the Saturn because it is the furthest away for
the Sun and the Earth
but has as much clout as the Sun.

4.The last 200 years, whenever Saturn has gone into Virgo there has been
either a world war or a mini world war, he told AFP.
In fact Saturn enters Virgo every 28 years. (Have there been a war or a
mini war every 28 years - I dont know). In fact incidents do not take place
just after Girann but prior to and after, Afghanistan escalation could be
linked to this incident?
Every thing has a 28 cycle, the moon takes 28 days to return to its new moon
or full moon cycle, womens periods are 28 day cycle (average) its changed
these days because of their hectic lifestyle STRESS and alcoholic husbands -
so they say. Many people if they look back on their life will find that
their life changed completely when they were 28 years old (average between
28 and 30 years), this is when a person becomes in actual fact an 'Adult'
(not at 21). 21 is 3/4 cycle.

Indians as Commonewalth Citizens can do so in UK!
Secondly, are the people from the rest of India any previlaged to buy land
in Goa?
But they are, and paying more for it.

How come this happens? - Simple.
One Govt. employess are transfered to Goa, Goans are transfered elsewhere in
India too.

One Indian is transfered to Goa, his dad (retired Govt. employee who made
money by taking bribes) followed him.
His dad with his illgotten money, opens a restaurant in Panjim (I have eaten
there).
They intend buying land and building a house in Goa, his dad said his other
sons will come as well.
For now the son his wife and his dad and his wife are in Goa, working and
doing business.

All this in return for one transfer.

[Goanet] The farce of prohibition which cannot be enforced

2009-07-13 Thread Cajetan Alvares
India's leading alcohol tycoon criticises 'political hypocrites'

By Andrew Buncombe in Delhi

India's leading alcohol tycoon has criticised the “political hypocrites” who
control the country’s only dry state after more than 130 people died from
drinking tainted home-made liquor.

In a broadside against Narendra Modi and his senior officials in the western
state of Gujarat, Vijay Mallya said it was an open secret that alcohol was
available in the state but at increased prices. Poor people were risking
their lives as a result.

“The death of more than hundred people resulting from the consumption of
spurious liquor is not only tragic but should act as a wake-up call for our
political hypocrites,” said Mr Mallya who heads the UB Group, the world’s
second largest distiller, which produces many of India’s best-selling
brands.

“The farce of prohibition which cannot be enforced leads to illegal,
unhygienic and unsupervised production of deadly cocktails which claim
innocent lives,” Mr Mallya added.

Several of India’s states have passed and then dropped prohibition laws over
the years. Cities such as Rishikesh ban alcohol on religious grounds, but
Gujarat – birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi, who campaigned strongly against
drinking – is the only place where alcohol remains illegal state-wide. Mafia
gangs and corrupt officials ensure a steady supply, at increased rates.

The perilous nature of the cheaper alterative has been underlined by the
deaths of more than 130 people in Ahmedabad after drinking so-called
“country liquor”. Plastic pouches of such hooch are often sold for as little
as 10 rupees (13 pence).

Mr Modi, a right-wing firebrand who had been named as a possible national
leader of the Hindu nationalist BJP before its election failure, has yet to
respond to Mr Mallyas’s claims. His health minister, Jaynarayan Vyas said:
“Mallya has a vested interest and he should be the last person to comment?
Similar tragedies have taken place on a much bigger scale in non-prohibition
states.”

[Goanet] India vs Pakistan - by Milliband on CNN

2009-07-07 Thread Cajetan Alvares
*Washington: *India is not a threat to Pakistan, and New Delhi has better
things to do than end up in a standoff with its neighbour, British foreign
secretary David Miliband has said.

The enemy that Pakistan faces is a domestic terrorist, not a large and
successful neighbour like India, which has got far better things to do in
the world of commerce and politics than end up in a standoff with Pakistan,
Miliband said in an interview with CNN.

When pointed out that it was British colonial powers which drew the boundary
line between India and Pakistan, causing almost half a million people to
die, Miliband said: We did. And we have to recognise our own history.

At the same time, he was quick to point out: But remember, 61 years, India
is the world's largest and most successful -- the largest democracy and the
success story of the region.

Pakistan on the other hand, he observed, has had 31 years of military rule
and two-thirds of its boundaries were still contested.

Communities from Baluchistan through to the Punjab split by lines between
countries and of course, the Bangladesh experience of the early 1970s. So,
you see, let me just make the point that Pakistan has been a society deeply
challenged
-- socioeconomically, politically, geographically -- over the last 60
years, Miliband said.

Hi,
Those days they had the guns, not brains.
Those who came those days were the same kind who come now, 'all brawn no

There was a program on UK TV.
Only Builders, Hairdressers, Caterers, Hippies who happened to get money
from their parents etc. bought land in Goa.

Those who actually rules India were and are in UK, even now - calling
Indians with brains but no brawn to work on their computers in UK.

Now, are the Britishers still ruling India?
Of course they are.
India got everything, Nehru had banned import of foreign goods, did India
starve?
Who controls and puts check on Indian Rupee, to see that it does not go
above a certain level?

In India it is the Indian Govt that is all brawn and no brains (all goonds
and bandits elected because they spent lakhs during elections).
