[Goanet] Parrikars tears and Misquitas' Hypocracy
All Goans today are sad and woke up to the heartrending and shocking news of our dear Mathanys' death. Along with Parrikar who was shown on local television networks genuinely shedding tears for his dear colleague Mathany, I am sure many others in both the BJP as well as Congress and other parties also have felt the great loss of a leader of his stature. What I cannot understand is that Wilfred Misquita who is holding some important position in the BJP uses the death of our great leader to gain political mileage and malign the name of Congress party. He made a statement during the condolence meet which is recorded on television that Mathany was against Congress because of corruption !! Please mister Misquita stop fooling the public at least during a condolence meet like this. Even if you have an axe to grind with the Congress please control your tongue at least on this day which is a sad day for all Goans. From, Col.Cyril P.D'Souza ( Retd.) Mr. Sujay Gupta has really writtern a wonderful and thought provoking account on tthe main reasons why we goan electorate get what we deserve . That is to say corruption from all levels be it MPs , MLAs and even ordinary panchayat members are involved in corruption. Recently a friend of mine settled abroad had to construct a compound wall which he did in record time of three weeks with all the necessary licenses when I enquired he replied that he just gave the 'buggers' some baksheesh ! It is natural that when at election time the candidates spend and distribute so much money they naturally have to recover it and that they do fourfold. Now it is an accepted fact in Goa that votes are given to the highest bidder nowonder the corruption has reached such disgracing levels . Its no use blaming the politicians when we ourselves are corrupt , get our jobs done by paying bribes and vote and elect elements who are not even fit to run the affairs of their homes leave alone those of the state . It is high time people are warned against receiving money at time of elections and told that the money they receive is cursed . It is high time people give such unscrupulous panchas , MLAs and MPs who contribute nothing towards the betterment of the state the boot. *Both politicians and diapers need to be changed often and for the same reason !!f **Col.Cyril P.D'Souza ( Retd.) * KHH phase 11 Gauravaddo - Calangute Goa Pin : 403516 Tel :08322282881

[Goanet] Commission for Social Communications will answer all questions with regards to the Church in Goa
To The Editor Herald Publications Panjim Goa 29 th July 2010 Dear Sir, *KINDLY PUBLISH IN LETTER TO THE EDITOR COLUMN *This is with reference to the article appearing in Herald dtd 28th July captioned as Bishops office under RTI Act . It is really surprising that the Mapuca Legislator Francis D'Souza who is part of the panel should entertain Antonia Michel Abels' requests which are really absurd , insulting and an invasion into the independent and secular functioning of the Church in Goa. The said Antonia Abel has made ridiculous suggestions about the Portuguese laws and culture and customs which we Goans so uniquely have imbibed and follow for centuries together and are very proud of our culture and traditions. Infact it is our unique culture which binds and brings us Goans together no matter what faith or creed we belong to , unlike other states that are constantly experiencing communal riots and tensions instigated by communal outfits and parties. I hope the Mapuca Legislator realises that he also represents a sizeable number of Catholics and other Goans from his constituency and shouldnt give in to mischievous suggestions like that of Antonia just because she maybe his constituent. Instead of directing the Law department he can guide and direct such silly suggestions or even any genuine queiries to the *Commission for Social Communications set up by the Goa Archdiocese*. *Col.Cyril P.D'Souza ( Retd.) * KHH phase 11 Gauravaddo - Calangute Goa Pin : 403516 Tel :08322282881 * * * UK STOCKS EXHAUSTED! [Goanet] Truck carrying iron ore falls into paddy field
This is to bring to your notice that a truck carrying iron ore fell into my field at Saligao ( Cotula ) . The truck fell day before night ( midnight ) and was brought to my notice by my caretaker just last evening so I went and saw it - most of the ore has been shifted but there is still a lot of it left in the field with one side of the road badly damaged. Question is whose truck was it and why was it carrying this ore through shortcut ( cotula - goletem ) . For whom was the ore intended and for what reason and mainly is it legal to transport ore in the late hours of night . I have made a written complaint which I am going to send to the Police and Panchayat ( Saligao ) Regards Cyril
[Goanet] Abortion is first degree murder
To, The Editor, Herald Newspaper Panjim - Goa Sir , Subject :Abortion is 'First Degree Murder'. This is with reply to the article in Herald dated 16th January 2010 titled 'The Reproductive Rights of Women' written by one Venita Coelho following which there have been some excellent replies to her article and I am sure whoever has read it are surprised that it is coming from a personality like her . Even if she is in the business of promoting abortions it is our bounden duty to make her realise that her one ariticle may have already led a few especially the gulible and young into taking this extreme step of committing this heinous crime against the unborn child whose innocent blood will be on her hands Only the mother can protect the child thats in her womb and if the mother herself decides to kill her own baby who has no means of fighting for its rights then such mothers who are encouraged and misled by unscrupulous elements in society are committing an action which is not only murder - *it is first degree murder*. The sad part is that the article has come from least expected quarters and should serve as a wake up call to the church authorities in Goa who now should aggressively try to strive to promote the right values especially amongst our youth . Parents should keep a track especially on their young ones and make them aware as in todays' times the evil one is working overtime to destroy as many souls as possible and the crime of abortion never goes unpunished and remains as a ' hidden scar ' in the hearts and souls of all those who have been fooled into committing this crime against a helpless unborn child for no fault of hers/his and whose innocent blood will cry to the heavens for eternal vengeance. Venita your article is no different from the infamous writings of the late cleric Nasser Al Zakhawi whose articles spoke in favour of suicide bombings terming them for the first time as martyrdom thus causing many misled youth to join the death squads . The real martyrs are the innocent who are killed especially the tiny innocent unborn children .All the lame excuses and lies used to cover up abortion can hide the real truth that innocent blood was shed -Its sad when the sacred mothers'womb becomes a tomb. Thank you and God Bless the staff of Herald , Yours sincerely*,* ** *Col. Cyril P.D'Souza ( Retd.)* KHH Ph 11 Gauravaddo - Calangute Goa 403516 Tel : 08322282881
[Goanet] Ban Sanathan Sanstha - Malegao to Margao
To , The editor Herald Publications Goa * KINDLY PUBLISH AS LETTER TO THE EDITOR* ** Dear Sir, the Bomb Blast at Margao is an eyeopener to all Goans - it is a harbinger of things to come and happen in Goa. First and foremost how were these thugs allowed to operate from Goa under the guise of a social organisation supposed to be committed to the welfare of society . How were they allowed to acquire such big tracts of prime Goan land at Ponda and conduct their clandestine operations from here inspite of being implicated in the Malegao bomb blasts . Now they had planned to plant bombs in Goa and create chaos and communal strife . why did they target Margao only - is it because the CM hails from that constituency. Maybe some other political organisations are involved in this whole conspiracy . Lucky for us the blast took the life of the mole himself . But I call upon the police to be extra vigilant regarding all migrants and the functioning of rightwing organisations like Sangathan Sanstha - who are trying to copy the SS thugs of the erstwhile Nazis . Police should now take care during all congregations of people especially melas , feasts like Old Goa feast ,etc. Government should ban these organisations who are extremists and communal as the future already looks bleak for Goa. Police should also verify if these elements had any hand in the temple and church desecrations that happen so often. All those funding such organisations should also be questioned and all culprits brought to book.Functioning of Organisations like Sangathan Sanstha, Bajrang Dal , Hindu Janajagruti etc should be looked into as now it is evident that they do not seek any welfare or good of the people except want to create strife and communal disharmony. *Col.Cyril P.D'Souza ( Retd.)* #401 KHH PH 11 Gauravaddo - Calangute Gauravaddo
Re: [Goanet] The rise and fall of a man consumed with a passion to be Indias' PM
Dear Mr.Floriano Lobo , you have aptly described the BJP Cobra/ wolf - L.K.Advani whose only dream was to sit in the PMs chair at any cost - even at the cost of innocent lives . We cannot forget the lives lost at the time of his infamous Rath - yatras that were purposely taken through muslim areas ( even those areas that had a history of communal harmony had witnessed their first disturbances ) to disturb the peaceful fabric of the country. We cannot forget the tears in the eyes of innocent women and children and even scared boys that cried like babies whenever we tookout flag-marches - how they pleaded with us for peace . The destruction of the Babri - Masjid was instigated by Advani and the resulting riots and bomb blasts were all due to his passion - nay not for the betterment of the country and its countrymen but to sit in the PMs chair. The world has seen the fall of greatest dictators like Idi Amin Dada, Hitler ,Saddam Hussein etc and we all sighed in relief on May 16th this year when God in his goodness spared our country and our countrymen from the hands of an evil monger and would be a de-facto dictator - who would have destroyed the country . Thank God for a strong leader we have in Dr.Manmohan Singh. God Bless our country always Col. Cyril P.D'Souza( Retd.)

I had a somewhat similar problem in Saloi some years back and got it solved ( drove them away ) by taking *firm action including shaking* the encroacher by the scruff of his neck. Do not fear - you are a Goan and you must fight for your rights if not these greedy buggers will grab all thats left of our once beautiful Goa. [Goanet] God and You
St.Francis of Assisi whilst sending out his friars to preach the word of God instructed them thus ,' Go out and preach - and whenever required preach with words' What he meant was that as Christians and followers of Jesus Christ we must spread the Good News by our actions - when the gentiles saw the good works of the christians and saw the joy they shared they too were drawn to the faith God Bless Allwyn
[Goanet] Mary our role model for todays' world.
Well said Mr. Albert , Jesus said that even if one has faith as little as a mustard seed he can move a mountain - that is faith and not the way we all are going today - getting upset over each and everything , worrying over nothing , broken homes and families, running to courts and making enemies, suicides and crimes that too now happening slowly from amongst our own community , acquiring wealth for which there is no guarantee we will enjoy, running the rat race and tensions galore and no time for family or friends - if we had faith we would have put our trust in God and seen actual miracles happening in our life . If we need Gods Spirit to work in our lives we have to just do one simple act .. pray to him and allow him to take over our lives . Let Mary be our role model - she led a simple life putting her trust in Gods providence and protection who suffered silently at the foot of the cross watching her sons' execution on the cross and said ' Yes ' once again when Christ at that supreme moment gave her to mankind as our universal role model and mother. When we say the rosary we contemplate not only on her life but on the mysteries of salvation. What we need today is less of TV and more of prayer ( Rosary ) Rosary because the family that prays together stays together.Only if we make a small sacrifice everyday and set aside just 10 minutes for our family rosary you will see the difference slowlyand blessings pouring on us and our children and we can get rid of a lot of ills plaguing our society today . We will be able to set a good example to others too as our lives will automatically change for the better. *Remember you may be the only Bible someone may read in his entire lifetime .* ** *God Bless* ** *Cyril.*
Re: [Goanet] G'bye Goa, Indo-Aryans-2: HERALD(Goa), June 14, 2009
Dear Valmiki , Very interesting reading about the Aryan invasion and subsequent domination over the Indian peninsula - however I do remember reading that the Dravidians who are the original inhabitants of the entire peninsula spoke Dravidian languages some of which even have links with Austro- aboriginal languages and Afro - languages like Kikuyu , etc However these Dravidians who were basically animists were driven South by the powerful Aryan conquerors. Also some of the inhabitants to come to Goa were Gaud - Saraswats ( fish eating Brahmins ) from as far away as the East - I am certain you would throw some light on the above in your future articles which are very enlightening to those interested in History and pre- history. [Goanet] Jitendra Deshprabhus' mature comments about Dr.Willy
This is with reference to the recent news item about Dr.Willys' exit from the NCP and the subsequent slandering and rumours being floated. Let me first and foremost congratulate Mr. Jitendra Deshprabhu for the excellent performance in the recently concluded Lok Sabha Elections . Though he lost by a small margin of just 5000 votes he could have done better had it not been for the infighting within the ranks of the NCP sadly instigated by the likes of a legislator from South Goa. Being a coalition partner NCP candidate was given the North Goa seat and ofcourse Dr.Willys' supporters in Calangute, Saligao and elsewhere went about distributing cards and people did vote for the NCP but the recent fiasco is uncalled for especially when the NCP is reeling after the suspension of one of its MPs from Maharashtra. IN the wake of all this we Goans welcome Mr. Deshprabhus' remarks and comments about Dr.Willy that the later being the ex CM of Goa had played a major role in its progress bringing Goa to the level it is today and that he respects the former NCP president of Goa unit. By uttering these mature comments he has not only respected the octogenarian dotor from Saligao but has also paid respects to all Dr.Willys' supporters and sympathisers across Goa who supported Deshprabhus' candidature during the Lok Sabha polls. However the comments made by Ms.Fatima de Sa are in bad taste and seem immature as they reflect utter frustration within the rank and file of the NCP . A little introspectionn needs to be done and I think it is high time all secular parties sticjk together and strengthen the hands of the UPA government at the centre . Yours truly, Col.Cyril P.D'Souza ( Retd.) Gauravaddo - Calangute Goa

[Goanet] Friends of BJP trying to fool the undecided public
Remembering Aquino Braganca (b. 6 April 1924), who fought for freedom of the former Portuguese colonies in Africa. An online tribute http://aquinobraganca.wordpress.com/ (includes many historical references, some photographs and documents) *To ,* *The Editor* *Herald * *Panjim * *Goa* * Kindly publish as letter to the Editor* Dear Sir, This is with reference to todays' article in the Herald mentioning that a new group called 'Friends of BJP' has been formed to provide an alternative to the people. Who are these people trying to fool. Where were they all these years and never once took up social issues or is it that all the rascals who dont want to openly support the BJP are going to hide behind this new formation like cowards. The electorate hopefully has come of age and with majority of the voters being youth this time lets hope that sense will prevail and people cast their votes for a secular government. BJP is desperately trying to break the unity amongst secular parties and will go to any extent to see that they get elected. Now they have tried a new stunt by forming this new outfit so as to woo the undecided voters and cowards . Lets not forget the evil that took over the country in the wake of the Babri Masjid demolition. Inflammatory speeches by Advani and others led to the death of thousands of innocent people during these riots and the subsequent Bomb Blasts. Lets not forget the infamous Rath Yatras of Advani which left riots and destruction in their wake wherever the rath yatras passed. Even places which had never witnessed riots and people of different communities had lived peacefully were disturbed by his inflammatory speeches. Lets not forget his hurtful and insensitive comments after the death squads were unleashed by his Sangh Parivar on the innocent Christians in Kandhmal ( Orissa) . If Karnataka which was once a very peaceful state has suddenly changed overnight into a troubled state ( with reports of attacks on minorities the most recent being in Bellary and Haveri ) with the coming of BJP it wont take this country very long for it to turn into a communal hotbed . There are already stray incidents of attacks coming in everyday. The Sangh Parivar outfits are waiting to unleash their evil designs and will be empowered if BJP takes over the centre. I fervently appeal to the people of India for whom many of us have sacrificed ourselves not to play into the hands of the BJP and be carried away by their false propaganda. Lets not waste our precious vote but lets all vote for the internal security and prosperity of the country otherwise future generations will never forgive us and it will be too late to undo the damage. Please unite and do not give the BJP a chance for the sake of peace , prosperity and your childrens' future. Thank you, *Col. Re: [Goanet] What have Saligao Youngsters and Playground got to do with the Road - Mr. Bonnie??
Dear Mr.Agnelo Fernandes, Thank you for your encouraging words - during my stint in the army I used to get ridiculous postings ( we called them punishment postings ) sometimes in the North East , sometimes on the borders of East Bengal and even Indo- Pak (including Siachen )- and I always carried some black and white pictures of Goa in my suitcase which at nights I would just look at and dream of the day I would go back home to my peaceful and beautiful Goa - and finally I retired some years back and sadly I can say that things are worsening year after year - the filth and garbage ( smell of burning garbage and plastic is everywhere , sometimes I have to keep my windows shut during the day ) , unorganised planning of roads and infrastructure etc and ofcourse Calangute is not the same - majority in the market area either speak in Kannada, Marathi or are Bhayyas from the North and we dont have the basic infrastructure to support this influx of migrants . As a result they even urinate and defecate in open areas and Malaria cases are on the rise .Now everytime anyone gets a fever they are advised to do blood tests.*This was not the Goa I was planning to retire and live in - * Despite my poor health I make it a point to attend all GramSabhas ( Joseph Sequeira heaves a sigh when I dont )and highlight these issues . *I wish to once again thank Mr.Ashley* for taking up this onerous task of being the RP convenor and at the same time *opposing the road that is going to destroy the hillsides of Saligao.* *Col.Cyril P.D'Souza ( Retd.)* Calangute On 3/21/09, Agnelo Fernandes afernan...@cbi.com wrote: On Fri, 20 Mar 2009 15:21:03 +0530, Ashley Delaney ashley...@gmail.com wrote on the subject: Re: [Goanet] what have Saligao Youngsters and playground got to do with the road Mr. Bonnie (full text deleted) Hello Mr Cyril, Mr Bonnie, and my dear friend ASHLEY, I apologize to young Ashley for not having sent in the Congratulatory message on Thursday, 19 March, on the great efforts he is putting in as a Convenor for taking up and fighting the social evils in Saligao. I failed to understand the message in Bonnie's post. Playground and the by-pass road are two different issues and the issue in question here is the bypass road. Bonnie, please try to understand the immediate need of paying our attention according to priorities. It is not right for us to just punch keys on our keyboards, pass judgements, issue instructions, accuse inactions, whereas we, who want others to do the dirty work, are far away from Amchem Goa, waiting at the slightest opportunity to bug and criticise our fellow Goans who take up evils right there in Goa. They know the ground realities, they know the time, effort, and commitment that is needed to go through daily headaches and heartaches to see our Goa get back the place of pride of remaining the Rome of the East. Let us at least send in a word of encouragement if we cannot do anything better from far or near. Thanks *Bonnie Fernandes *00971508488096 ? ? Dear Mr. Bonnie Fernandes, this is with reference to the above letter I have received from you via 'goanet' - in the first place my friend you are completely missing the point - the people of Saligao ( Foxes and all ) are against the alignment of the MDR road coming from Gautam Hotel Porvorim via the hill slopes of Saligao threatening to destroy the flora , fauna and peace of the village . People who will really suffer if this road comes into existence are those from lowlying wards of Salmona, Donvaddo and Mollembhat. The convenor who will be highlighting this issue in the forthcoming Saligao GramSabha on the29th March has also threatened to move the courts on the issue. Lots of people from Saligao including those like me who are settled outside the village will support him on this issue. I dont know whether you are from Candolim , Calangute , Baga or Saligao but I request you to support the Saligao villagers by protesting against this road and come to the GramSabha meeting. *About your accusation that Saligao people are dumb and the youngsters are into drinks , drugs , smoking , etc* I request you to take back your statement as I too have my young relatives living in Saligao and they have a very good upbringing and do not do any of the above vices . Please do not generalise. Mr. Bonnie please wake up from your slumber , move out of your luxurious cell and pull up your socks , roll up your sleeves and get ready - there is a lots of work to do - theres a long road ahead we all must trod... *Colonel Cyril P.D'Souza*
[Goanet] Fwd: Saligao now opposes the bypass road alignment
-- Forwarded message -- From: cyril D'Souza cyril43deso...@gmail.com Date: Mar 17, 2009 5:02 PM Subject: Saligao now opposes the bypass road alignment To: edi...@herald-goa.com To, The Editor Herald Newspaper Panjim - Goa 17th March 2009 *Kindly publish in your letters to the editor* ** This is with reference to the article in todays' Herald under caption ' Saligao Opposes New Bypass Road ' .First and foremost let me congratulate the Calangute gram sabha which on Sunday decided that the government should freeze its proposal to acquire land for the two bypass roads leading to Baga beach and Sinquerim without taking the people of Calangute into confidence regarding the alignment of the roads. Congratulations also to the convenor of Saligao Regional Plan 2021 and all the Saligaokars for joining the villagers of Calangute in opposing the hurriedly planned and proposed bypass road which is going to destroy a lot of eco- sensitive zones like fields and the green forested Saligao hills. Any planning done has to be done by taking the people of the affected village in confidence just like they have put the RP2021 before the people for their views and objections . The person who has proposed this road has definitely some vested interests and that is the reason the PWD has hurriedly sent notices to the Saligao and Calangute Panchayats. *Even the Town and Country Planning department don’t seem to be aware about such a road . *The convenor is right by saying that those slopes where the road is proposed are the lungs of Saligao as they have got a thick forest cover. The road if it is constructed will pass right over the wards of Mollembhat and Donvaddo and could pose a danger if heavy trucks carrying hazardous chemicals and materials come rolling down these steep hills. I don’t understand how in Adams the Government proposes to construct a road on such a steep slope just below Saligao Seminary . If the present road alignment becomes a reality half the forest cover will disappear and half the hill will have to be cut right above the mentioned wards which will lead to slow denudation. In the meantime illegal settlements , places of worship and other undesirable constructions will crop up along these slopes which in time will be regularized as usual .The beauty and serenity of Saligao will also be destroyed if Government persists with the present plan proposed by the concerned PWD department which is to benefit some Industrialists who have bought vast tracts of land on the hill . *I am glad the people of Saligao have united against this proposed evil and demand that the government scraps the road alignment *totally or realigns the road along the initially proposed route on the edge of the village on Saligao – Pilerne border as most of the heavy traffic on this route will be to the Pilerne Industrial Estate. [Goanet] Calangute Panchayat and neighbouring villages
To, The Editor Herald Panjim Goa Dear Sir, Subject : Calangute panchayat and neighbouing villages This is with reference to the newsitem in Herald dated 2nd March titled Calangute Panchayat the richest in Goa . Firstly let me congratulate Mr. Joseph Sequeira our dynamic sarpanch for the developments he and his panchmembers have undertaken in Calangute . The most significant development is the Poriat football ground the villagers can be proud of and of course his excellent garbage disposal scheme his panchayat undertakes tirelessly everyday . Though I now am a resident of Calangute for over 15years my ancestral village is neighbouring Saligao and whenever I visit my relatives there they have a lot to complain about the garbage dumping that takes place daily at the hill ontop of their village . Incidentally the area where the garbage is dumped lies in Calangute jurisdiction but the percolation and pollution is borne unfortunately by the Saligao villagers. The air and water pollution especially during the monsoons can be felt in those areas of Saligao that lie at the foot of the plateau where the garbage is dumped . If the Calangute Panchayat is earning an average revenue of 3 crores I think it is time that they also solve the problems of the neighbouring villages . Saligao is begining to face a massive problem of garbage from within the village itself and lack of funds limits the ability of the Saligao Panchayat to address this problem. I would like to request Mr. Joseph Sequeira to look into the matter and atleast help the village of Saligao tide over its garbage problem . Maybe he can have the garbage van collect garbage from Saligao atleast twicce a week . For this the Saligaokars can coordinate with him to ascertain certain pickup points. Benefits should percolate to neighbouring villages as well ,as infrastructure for tourism is also provided by other villages for example there is a new road being proposed via Saligao hill to tide over the traffic congestion due to increase in tourist traffic. If not I request the Government authorities to try and merge the above two panchayats along with one or two more affected villages to give them a municipality status where the development can be broadbased benefitting all villages. I think it is high time the above affected villages come together on the above urgent matter. Thanking you, Yours truly, *Col. Cyril P. [Goanet] Sangh Parivar forces on the rise
With reference to Marshalls' letter about the recent communal divide taking place in once peaceful Karnataka and also their show of strength at a rally held at Panjim I think all of us secular minded Goans should take heed and learn a lesson lest we too in a few years from now will have to directly or indirectly face the persecution from communal forces which are on the rise and are using all means even lies and deceit to further their Hindutva agenda and divide and polarise our societies. General Elections are fast approaching and its time to unite and put aside our differences which the Sangh elements will try to highlight especially during the run up to the forthcoming elections. Lets not give the communal elements a chance but come together atleast for the sake of our future peace . People must be made aware that the BJP elements are all wolves in sheeps clothing . [Goanet] Politicisation of Terror
To, The Editor Navhind Times Panjim - Goa Dear Sir , *KINDLY PUBLISH IN YOUR READERS' VIEW COLUMN* This is with reference to your editorial dated 21st November 2008 titled ' *Politicisation of Terror* ' . Our Prime Minister Mr.Manmohan Singh has rightly defended the investigations carried out by the ATS in the Malegaon Blasts case and has even spoken to the Prime Ministerial candidate of the BJP clarifying the latters statements accusing the ATS of having tortured Pragya Sadhvi - one of the accused in the Blast case. The Prime Minister has even offered to show him the file thereby clarifying his statements of torture . It is very sad that Mr.Advani chooses to defend the blast accused that too after a prolongued silence and use this as another opportunity to polarise the vote banks with an eye on the forthcoming General elections . The role of an army officer in the blasts is definitely to be condemned and has brought a bad name and shame to the armed forces. It is very sad that the communal and anti - national elements are defending culprits like Purohit who have infiltrated the armed forces and their role should be condemned by all sections and parties . At the time of the Malegaon blasts innocent people were arrested - what about them ? what about the unwarranted physical and mental torture they and their families suffered due to the actions of Sadhvi and Purohit and company ? Advani instead of trying to gain mileage by supporting the real culprits should apologise to those who were innocently arrested immediately after the blasts. Col . The murder committed on the priest was an attack on the entire Goan community and not only the Catholic community . Fr.Eusebios invaluable contribution to the translation of the ' Novo Korar '( new testament during the early 70s and his work among the lowly and downtrodden cannot be forgotten. Infact he would go out of his way to even help strangers like the two murderers who have now been now acquitted on flimsy grounds like the priests' room key appearing in their bag, etc. I call upon all Goans to unite as one and teach a fitting lesson to the murderers by appealing against their acquittal because it is going to send wrong signals to all criminals trying to operate in Goa and who now know that they can even commit a murder in Goa and catch the next train out. If this had to happen in their state the public would lynch the murderers ! Lets wake up and appeal against this acquittal as Goans now need justice. [Goanet] Give the education Minister a chance to perform
To, The Editor Herald Panjim - Goa * LETTER TO THE EDITOR *Dear Sir, This is with reference to the extreme bashing and lashing meted out to the Education Minister by his opposition headed by Adv.Aires Rodrigues and prompted and instigated from the shadows. If I may say it was Aires who initially hit out at the Education Minister soon after he took over charge with accusations of his educational qualifications . To further rub salt on his wounds Aires kept on waiting and instigating and now has used the German girls rape charges as a weapon to dethrone Babush . Now he has found a new enemy in Churchill Alemao... Where was this Utt Goenkaras Aires when the poor girl in Ponda was raped ? Where was this Aires when so many crimes were taking place against innocent and poor Christians in Orissa. I have always known him to be a cynic and controversial. I think Aires must channelise his resources for the right causes like migrant issues etc. My point is that why no letter in support of Babush from any of his followers and voters and supporters ? Why are they so scared to speak out against his detractors ? I feel that after taking over as the Education Minister Babush was successful in coming to some kind of amicable settlement with the long standing demands of the computer teachers . Why are these very people he had helped not even saying anything in support of the minister ? Is it because the agitation of the computer teachers was instigated initially by the BJP wolf in Sheeps clothing ? Is this same person jealous of the minister and also of the Chief Minister so as to cunningly instigate all the agitations taking place all over Goa ? Now a new agitation regarding Mobile Towers is going to start . Is it not proper to allow Digambar Kamat to run the administration peacefully instead of instigating all kinds of agitations and thus bring about the government machinery to a standstill ? I think what Mr. Mike Mehta the counsel for the Alemao Kid said is true that people are overdoing and overstepping their limits and agitating is now become more of a fashion. Babush had good plans especially for the primary and pre- primary education system and I think we must give him a chance to deliver without unduly stressing him out. Lets give him a chance. *Col.Cyril D'Souza (Retd.) *401 KHH Phase 11 Gauravaddo Calangute Goa 403516 Tel: 08322282881
[Goanet] WHO'S THE REAL HINDU? - Karan Thapar
WHO'S THE REAL HINDU? Karan Thapar Hindustan Times Does the VHP have the right to speak for you or I? Do they reflect our views? Do we endorse their behaviour? They call themselves the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, but who says they represent all of us? This Sunday morning, I want to draw a clear line of distinction between them and everyone else. My hunch is many of you will agree. Let me start with the question of conversion - an issue that greatly exercises the VHP. I imagine there are hundreds of millions of Hindus who are peaceful, tolerant, devoted to their faith, but above all, happy to live alongside Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Jews. If any one of us were to change our faith how does it affect the next man or woman? And even if that happens with inducements, it can only prove that the forsaken faith had a tenuous and shallow hold. So why do the VHP and its unruly storm troopers, the Bajrang Dal, froth at the mouth if you, I or our neighbours convert? What is it to do with them? Let me put it bluntly, even crudely. If I want to sell my soul - and trade in my present gods for a new lot - why shouldn't I? Even if the act diminishes me in your eyes, it's my right to do so. So if thousands or even millions of Dalits, who have been despised and ostracised for generations, choose to become Christian, Buddhist or Muslim, either to escape the discrimination of their Hindu faith or because some other has lured them with food and cash, it's their right. Arguably you may believe you should ask them to reconsider, although I would call that interference, but you certainly have no duty or right to stop them. In fact, I doubt if you are morally correct in even seeking to place obstacles in their way. The so-called Freedom of Religion Acts, which aim to do just that, are, in fact, tantamount to obstruction of conversion laws and therefore, at the very least, questionable. However, what's even worse is how the VHP responds to this matter. Periodically they resort to violence including outright murder. What happened to Graham Staines in Orissa was not unique. Last week it happened again. Apart from the utter and contemptible criminality of such behaviour, is this how we Hindus wish to behave? Is this how we want our faith defended? Is this how we want to be seen? I have no doubt the answer is no. An unequivocal, unchanging and ever-lasting NO! The only problem is it can't be heard. And it needs to be. I therefore believe the time has come for the silent majority of Hindus - both those who ardently practice their faith as well as those who were born into it but may not be overtly religious or devout - to speak out. We cannot accept the desecration of churches, the burning to death of innocent caretakers of orphanages, the storming of Christian and Muslim hamlets even if these acts are allegedly done in defence of our faith. Indeed, they do not defend but shame Hinduism. That's my central point. I'm sorry but when I read that the VHP has ransacked and killed, I'm not just embarrassed, I feel ashamed. Never of being hindu but of what some Hindus do in our shared faith's name. This is why its incumbent on Naveen Patnaik, Orissa's Chief Minister, to take tough, unremitting action against the VHP and its junior wing, the Bajrang Dal. This is a test not just of his governance, but of his character. And I know and accept this could affect his political survival. But when it's a struggle between your commitment to your principles and your political convenience is there room for choice? For ordinary politicians, possibly, but for the Naveen I know, very definitely not. So let me end by saying: I'm waiting, Naveen. In fact, I want to say I'm not alone. There are hundreds of millions of Hindus, like you and me, waiting silently - but increasingly impatiently. Please act for all of us. http://www.hindustantimes.com/StoryPage/StoryPage.aspx?id=de847806-8ec0-4ed2-aff5-e9317f5539d3
[Goanet] Christian Institutions to be closed all over Goa on 29th Aug - Orissa Protests
There is a genocide taking place in Orissa as even alleged by some members of the opposition in the Oriya Assembly. Miscreants are armed with rifles and cutting knives more like the infamous ' machetes' used in certain African countries where they experienced genocides in the past. It seems to be a well planned operation of the Sangh Parivar The administration is but mere spectator to these latest attacks on Christian minorities and something needs to be done urgently . At least a temporary ban on the local outfits of Bajrang Dal and VHP since one must not forget their involvement in the burning of Christian missionaries in the past including that of an Australian missionary and his minor children. Dara Singh member of Bajrang Dal outfit is even allowed to contest elections - I think legislation must be passed to put an end to such anti - national activities carried out by the Sangh Parivar by banning their outfits carrying out violent attacks and spreading the venom of hatred amongst innocent and poor civilians. There must also be a legislation urgently to ban those involved in heinous communal related crimes banning their rights to contest any sort of election in the country. The need of the hour is to save the country from the evil designs of the Sangh Parivar. Let us not forget that Swami Laxminanda Saraswati for whose death Christians are being blamed was in the past involved in molestation of his disciples including a minor and his own disciples involved in defacing statue of Goddess Kalimata to put the blame on minorities... his disciples were caught redhanded and case hushed up by Naveen Patnaik himself There is no difference between Sangh Parivar , SIMI, AL QAEDA ETC - all are evil organisations with nefarious designs and every Indian must unite and seek a ban on the Sangh Parivar including their outfits which are now trying to gain foothold a in Goa as well. Goans instead of fighting each other and further weakening ourselves let us unite and crush these communal elements like Bajrang Dal and VHP who are out to sow discord amongst the people of Goa . Glad to know that the church authorities in Goa have along with other leaders from across India shown solidarity to the Christians in Orissa ,by shutting down all Christian institutions on 29th August. [Goanet] Hindu Psyche versus BJP Psyche !
Dear Yogesh , I fully agree with your point - why are fingers being pointed to one community only - when riots or lets take the recent case of swords in Margao we tend to generalise and associate the culprits with one community only - unfortunately parties like BJP have grown on such evil sentiments with outward backing from Bajrangdal. RSS etc Their cadres even infiltrate parties , NGOs and even sites like these - one example is Sidanath Buyao who was BJPs man in Save Goa Party floated by some politicians from Salcette during last assembly elections... with elements like S.Buyao one can understand why the party just ceases to exist today Communal elements must not be encouraged and allowed to use a particular community as their personal RATH to disturb the peace of our country .. such elements must be banned and never allowed to stand for elections Thank you Col. [Goanet] Kind attention : as per your request I am resending a copy of my letter I made to a local daily - about Zimmlers' Inquisition of Goa!!
*Subject : Wendell please help preserve Goas' peaceful fabric by not giving Zimmler publicity* I refer to the article in your Sunday magazine dated 29th June titled ' *Iniquitous Inquisition* ' wherein excerpts of the interview conducted by Wendell Rodrigues with Richard Zimmler were published. The Inquisition which is a sad part of the medieval ages was mainly used in Europe especially to curtail traitors and heretics who were undermining the rulers whose subjects were victims to the atrocities committed by the marauding armies of the Turks and Vandal conquerors especially after the Constantinople fiasco . The same methods were applied in every colony to contain rebellious attitude . The inquisition in Goa if ever it was held was for a brief period to contain mainly collaborators and those collaborating with the British and Dutch forces who had their eye on Goa because of its strategic location on the Arabian Sea coast. Zimmlers' assumption that 300 temples were razed by the Portuguese is absurd given the fact that temples flourished even in main cities like Panjim ,and Margao during the height of the Portuguese Rule. If some of the people themselves embraced the new faith and decided to worship in churches has nothing to do with the inquisition. People even followed certain traditions and customs of old for sentimental reasons and didnt do away with their way of life completely .For example some people till today believe in the age old caste system , the communidade system is followed everywhere , celebration of certain feasts etc. Richard Zimmler who has never been to Goa and is trying to convert fiction to fact and he is trying to create a sensation and negative publicity so that his book will sell . If we go by his teachings then perhaps we will see mistakes committed by every race and country. For example the massacre of Red - Indians , men , women and children by the Mormons and Jews in the infamous Utah Valley ( Salt Lake City ) and in certain States of the US and the subsequent mass graves were wiped out of history by Richard Nixon to please the American Jewish community . The planned killing of innocent Palestinians by the Israelis ,etc are to be best forgotten if one has to move along. Can we generalise and condemn all the German citizens for the holocaust ? If we want peace we must forgive and move ahead. I appeal to Wendell not to give publicity to such elements like Zimmler who want to rake up unnecessary and useless historical facts or fictions as they will provide fodder to those elements just waiting to create rift in Goa on communal lines and disturb the once peaceful fabric of our society. We have to move ahead together to create a strong and united Goa. Viva Goa ! *Cyril P.D'Souza*

Dear Goenkar bhaowa gabbe, magta tuka bori saude ani bollikee. DEV BOREM KORUM. if you have Seeen goo of late, it will remind you that the fiesta time siesta time is over for goans. They have to abandon relaxation, partying and take up arms. The place is fallin apart at home boy. trust me, if an agend aint formed sooner to safeguard our intersts we gonna sink. we can be in england, kuwait, s. arabia, canada, the usa or any other part of the world but our root that is goan cannot be ignored. to do this would be our shortsightedness. All right thinking goans with deep pockets should think of creating and investing in projects that shall be our financial hub in the heartland. dont abandon the boat pls. tomm Goanet supports BMX, the alumni network of Britto's, St Mary's and Xavier's -- three prominent institutions in Mapusa, Goa.
