Aye saaiba. kitem saangche tum-ka.

Yes Fred, the termgoichi if I am not mistaken is used by SB
(saraswat brahmins) who are spread over the Konkan to address SB's
(their gurls are quiet sundari *wink wink*...if you know what I mean)
from the Goa area. In Carwar where I sometimes spend time (feesh is
cheaper here you know), its commonly used to refer to folks from north
of the border. I think nothing wrong with Goich.

Say no offense but I tot Xembuh Moidekar's post was naughty in title
but tot-provoking and fine reading coming from north of the Zuari. My
pet pigling Catrina and me have been reading it over and overand
Catrina has put it to song; I'll post on you tube shortly. Reading all
those discussions on the US health care and God and God-not on the
GoaNet does not cut in for me: I am on the GoaNet 'cause I want to
read Goan! I think we should lighten up a bitculturally, we are a
joyful peoples no?

Unfortunately it made one sick in the stomach to read the Selma's
account of the life of Swindon Goans in the Herald a while ago. Its a
harsh reality and the description of the smell from the chicken plant
is etched in my memory. So perhaps Xembu was right in dishing out a
little advice I would think.

Aye, the good Doo-tor from the islands had something to say about
pseudonym. I don't want get on his wrong side (Doo-tors and the
injection brings fear of God, needle mixed with cold sweat in
me)but isn't putting masks part of Goan story telling, our folk
lore. From the dusty villages of Salcette, we roam during intruz with
masks and play characters, long forgotten dead characters...Senor
Dorado from Utorda Moodar will remember the late Cyril whose one-man
act (as his dead aunt) drove the village kids crazy with excitement
and frightful joy. Its our style of narrative, of story telling as an
alter ego...or something like that.

Best regards from the land of choris-pau-a-plenty, Mississauga.

You have not an inkling of the nobble nature of Goan off-shore workers of yore:
Our sailors -- 'shippies' -- always, exemplarilly maintained a formidable
dignity and
enviable solidarity among their vast fraternity...

Each and all of them, could not land the few...rare plum jobs aboard, available
to
the ratings; many did the odd, but essential jobs, that had to be done.

But, would any one ever disclose the nature of the job done by any of their

Never, it was an absolute taboo, that if broken would be met by an ordeal
tantamount
to being tarred and feathered: Certainly, an unendurable ostracising the boor,
aboard, not
just the ship he was next appointed to, but all others as well.

I know what I am talking about. I have known the fraternity extensively and
intimately:
through my innumerable school college...etc., mates but also during my many,
most
lovingly remembered visits, during the last 40+ years aboard Canbera, Oriana,
Himalaya
many others...when the several hundred Goan members of the respective

lavished me with love, home-food, torrents of booze...an unforgettable ever
enduring
friendship

The Bove pisso moidekar has never been to UK.

He has got some inkling after reading the letter from Menino that he met a

Well, I have lived at Heathrow area for 30 years and I have not SEEN one
Goan work in the toilets.
Yes, seen a few with gold chains round their necks (typical Goan) work the
trollies, they come and go.

This moidekar, has shown his true colours, 'a moidekar'.

And as for JC there was no need for the shermao, those who have lived in UK
gone to college 'done it, seen, it worn the T shirt', know it all.
This extra info just gives PIXE to write nonsense, free on Goanet.

Presently I know of a Pakistani who worked at the post office sorting mail

He has now got a good job in computing and doing well.
People who have lived in the west know the problems.

Pixe from Goa writing this stupidity on Goanet are JUST JEALOUS.

[Goanet] Swines, and swindon

2009-08-28 Thread xembuh Moidekar

   August 25, 2009 - Goanet's 15th Anniversary

Swindon is a a place where the Goans from Goa Velha have carved from themselves
a few niches.  Many of our country cousins after paying the lawyers the
unscrupulous  portuguese passport  service providers or the dirty middlemen
have been robbed, and even cheated and made to wait. The lucky few have managed
to slip into the UK and Swindon has been their place.
Swindon is a small goa for many  they crave for jobs, some Goans bribe the
British officials who are now contaminated with our  way of life - who
cares?  The old ladies who work as nannies and house maids after leaving their
government jobs where they used to really for for just 30 minutes a day,
chat for the rest of the time, now slog just like we make the Kannada Migrants
work in our toilets.  Many of the ladies who used to help to slaughter pigs and
manufacture sausages now work as toilet cleaners a job which we shun in goa as
bongi  jobs do not mind being paid 4 to 5 quid an hour!
Of late and due to the economic meltdown  many of our gaanv baav are employed
in the airports and  parking lotsSome have done their MA in microbiology
and even passed out in the Goa University after thei post-graduate degrees.

My caring advice and free advice that too is that in to-days world no one loves
no one...
Much is said and done but more is said than done...
We live in a world of easy living,  and it is no longer summer time with the
easy living'

Why cannot we make a livin' in Goa? There are fields which have been stolen from
Bakars lie uncultivated. Why can't people be like us Moidekars?
Why can't we work hard?
So the next time the Portuguese passport service providers rob of your euros
and rupees think twicestay in Goa, be like a Goan, and you will save
yourselv from

jc's No tongue in chick RESPONSE:

Dear Xembuh,

I truly appreciate the GoaNet 'moderators' for allowing a post
courtesy a pseudonym. I applaud their commitment to the freedom of
expression.

I also appreciate the advice you have given to Goans who expect to get
higher level employment abroad without the qualifications and
experience needed by the host country. It is worth reiterating that a
mere Portuguese passport does not guarantee anything besides entry
into the EC. Goans would do well to study hard and achieve the best
they can achieve.

And many Goans do. Some of them who are based in Swindon.

Having said that, I applaud ANY Goan who commits to working ANY job
anywhere. The UK is full of Punjabis who initially worked in the rest
rooms at Heathrow Airport so that their children could achieve their
dreams. A similar story for the Gujratis and Bangladeshis who came and
worked all kinds of hours in tiny corner-shops or in hot and
poorly-ventilated Curry-Take-Away kitchens. They sacrificed for their
children. And their children have done them proud. These 'desis' who
came as workers - now are owners, employing the next-cheapest labour
available i.e. Eastern Europeans.

It is OK to decide for one NOT to venture into the unknown and be
happy with the predictable. That is one's right. But let us not knock
those who work in whatever jobs they can work in - IF that is part of
their plan. Trust me, IF they work hard, they will make it. The West
also allows 'workers' to one day become 'owners'. (Reminds me of Moti,
the proprietor of Marietta Restaurant in Panjim. He started off as a
waiter at Venite and courtesy of funding from overseas...worked
his way to own his own restaurant)

Now, one qualification which will not get anyone (Goan or otherwise)
anywhere particular ... is the MA in Microbiology from Goa University.
This is because Goa University offers no such degree. Honestly, it
would be hard to imagine any university worth its salt offering such a
degree.

Even so, I must say that it must be the summer heat + the stress of
studying in Goa which caused them to Pass Out IN Goa University AFTER
their post-graduate degrees.

I have to wonder what went on there!

BTW: I thought that I'd kind of review what this term Passed Out
actually meant. Attached is what I found.

good wishes

jc

PS: Is it possible that Goanet has changed one of its rules since
Herman Carneiro last posted the Goanet Rules and Guidelines which
included Rule # 5: Use your real name as the Sender, not an alias ?

NOW ...here is what I found out about PASSED OUT; am almost sure
that Konklish has another definition for that phrase.
