12 Orissa districts in grip of communal violence Indo-Asian News Service Bhubaneswar, Sep 1 (IANS) The communal violence that engulfed nine Orissa districts following the Aug 23 murder of a Hindu leader has spread to three more districts, forcing authorities to deploy additional security personnel, an official said Monday. Security forces had been deployed in nine districts since Aug 23 but policemen are now being deployed in an additional three districts, Inspector General of Police Pradeep Kapur told IANS. However, Kapur did not disclose the names of the three districts in which the forces will be deployed. Security forces had already been deployed in Bolangir, Bargarh, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Koraput, Rayagada, Bhadrak and Kendrapada districts to curb the violence, which has claimed 14 lives. A curfew has been clamped on all major towns in Kandhamal district and in Jeypore town in Koraput district. Media reports said six churches and some houses had been burnt in Boriguma area of Koraput district and in some places in Rayagada district Sunday. Director General of Police Gopal Chandra Nanda, however, said only three or four churches had been set on fire. Fresh violence was also reported from the troubled district of Kandhamal where mobs set fire to some churches and houses Sunday evening. The incidents occurred in Bataguda and Parampanga area. District collector of Kandhamal Krishan Kumar said two houses were burnt by a mob at Bataguda but he was not sure if there was any violence in Parampanga. The state has been on the boil since the evening of Aug 23, when Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati, a member of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's (VHP) central advisory committee, and four others were killed by suspected Maoist guerrillas at his Jalespata ashram in Kandhamal. Saraswati was leading a campaign against cow slaughter and religious conversion in the communally sensitive Kandhamal district - which with a population of around 600,000 including 150,000 Christians has witnessed numerous clashes between Hindus and Christians in the past. Radical Hindu groups in the state blamed Christians for the crime and alleged that Christians killed Saraswati because he was opposing religious conversion. Christian organisations deny these allegations. Orissa is not new to communal violence between Hindus and Christians. On Jan 22, 1999, Australian missionary Graham Staines and his two sons, 10-year-old Philip and six-year-old Timothy, were burnt alive by a Hindu radical mob in their vehicle in Keonjhar district. But the findings could have destroyed her theory by failing to supprt them. Indian priests on Goanet can opine if the Indian Christians converted by St. Thomas have any gnostic beliefs. I have not heard of any gnostic groups among the Syrian-Christians of India. So what is the problem? The currently accepted gospels were written before 70 AD. The earliest date for the Nag Hammadi scrolls is 150 AD and later - when gnosticism started. Renegade to the rescue: Marcion the Christian renegade inadvertently rescued the Church's Scriptures. KBM leaders said that raking up the issue that was laid to rest over 2 decades ago would only foment trouble in the Goan society and divide the people on communal lines. Addressing a press conference at Margao on Monday, president of the KBM, Prashant Naik, informed that a resolution to that effect was taken at the executive body meeting of the institute held recently. The interests of the Marathi language is well safeguarded in the Act. Besides, the number of schemes introduced by the Goa Konkani Academy and Dalgado Konkani Akademi for the promotion of Konkani literature in the Roman script has ensured that no injustice is meted out to Roman script lovers, Prashant Naik said, further charging the politicians of whipping up passions over the language issue for their petty political gains. The language issue was duly settled in 1987 following a culmination of a series of meetings at the highest political levels. Raking up the issue after 2 decades will only serve in dividing society on communal lines. We have reasons to believe that this is a systematic ploy by politicians who wish to ride back to power over the language issue. If the situation demands, we won't hesitate to resort to violent means to counter any attempt to change the official language act, Naik charged. The KBM president further expressed his disapproval over some of the BJP legislators speaking in Marathi in the recently concluded assembly session. This is nothing but a political gimmick. Do these legislators speak in Marathi while canvassing for votes in Goa? Naik wondered. Flaying the government for its failure to implement the Official Language Act as desired, the KBM has placed a set of demands that include making Konkani a compulsory subject for school students upto class ten as well as making it mandatory for private sector companies to reserve jobs for Goans. Welcoming the government's decision to demand a special status for Goa, the KBM has expressed its willingness to be a part of the delegation that is expected to call on the central leaders to plead the case. Fr. Thomas Chellen, director of the pastoral center that was destroyed with a bomb, had a narrow escape after a Hindu mob nearly set him on fire. Currently undergoing treatment at a Catholic hospital in Orissa's capital Bhubaneswar, Fr. Chellen had this horrifying experience to share with Catholic News Service: 'They had poured kerosene on my head, and one held a matchbox in his hands to light the fire. But thanks to divine providence, in the end, they did not do that. Otherwise, I would not have been there to tell this horror,' the 55-year-old priest, director of the pastoral center at Konjamendi in the Indian state of Orissa, told Catholic News Service in a telephone interview from his hospital bed Aug. 28. When a Hindu mob of 500 people broke into the pastoral center around noon Aug. 24, Father Chellen said he fled through the backyard with another priest and a nun. 'It was heartbreaking for us to watch from a distance the entire complex go up in smoke,' said Father Chellen, who had supervised the construction of the center that opened in 2001 and could accommodate 200 people. 'They vandalized everything and set it on fire. It has been reduced to ashes,' he added. As the three watched from a distance, some other priests told them to flee. 'We fled to the jungles and came in the night to take shelter in the house of a Hindu friend and spent the night there,' Father Chellen said, adding that the second priest left them to join other priests. The following morning, he said, the Hindu family moved the priest and nun to an adjacent vacant house and locked it to give the impression that no one was inside. However, the Hindu mobs overheard the priest speaking on his cell phone, broke into the room and dragged him and the nun outside. 'They began our crucifixion parade,' said Father Chellen. The gang of about 50 armed Hindus 'beat us up and led us like culprits along the road' to the burned pastoral center. 'There they tore my shirt and started pulling off the clothes of the nun. When I protested, they beat me hard with iron rods. Later, they took the sister inside (and) raped her while they went on kicking and teasing me, forcing (me) to say vulgar words,' said the priest who has cuts, bruises and swollen tissue all over his body and stitches on his face. 'Later both of us, half-naked, were taken to the street, and they ordered me to have sex with the nun in public, saying nuns and priests do it. As I refused, they went on beating me and dragged us to the nearby government office. Sadly, a dozen policemen were watching all this,' he said. Angry at his plea to the police for help, the mob beat the bleeding priest again. Later, a government official and members of the mob took the priest and the nun to the police station, where Father Chellen said he was kicked in the face. 'The four-hour ordeal ended when a senior police officer arrived in the evening,' said Father Chellen. The priest said one of the most hurtful things about the incident was that some local Hindus whom he knew were watching the events and ignored his requests for help. There have been quite a few strong postings on the communal violence in Orissa. I would like to share with all of you something written by my friend Cynthia Stephen, from Bangalore. *Obsequies for the Innocent* Cynthia Stephen Turning and turning in the widening gyre The falcon cannot hear the falconer; Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere The ceremony of innocence is drowned; The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity. Surely some revelation is at hand; Surely the Second Coming is at hand W B Yeats, in The Second Coming Peace, Peace, they say, but the people of our land have no peace. Violence in the name of religion - whether in Jammu, Kashmir, Gujarat, Rajasthan or Orissa - appears to have become the default status in our nation in recent years. The temptation to ask, Where is God in the midst of all this? is irresistible. Is religion-related violence inevitable in a land where people worship deities who carry deadly weapons, it is said, to slay the demons of lust, pride, anger, hate and greed? Is violence the only way to counter these negative impulses? As a citizen of India and a global citizen as well, as a woman, a writer and activist, who also happens to be a Christian, I am struggling with different emotions, because I have just received an eyewitness account by a social worker from Kandhamal on the killing of seven persons - including women and children, at the hands of a 150-strong mob in Bakingia, 8 km from Raikia police station in Kandhamal district. I quote verbatim: *Pastor Daniel Naik and Samuel Naik along with a Christian leader Michel Naik and their wives and children were killed by the radical with swords and sticks. The Hindu radicals approached the Pastors families and instructed them to denounce Christ or face imminent death (sic). The pastors said that the God was great and they choose death than abandoning Christ. The radicals stated killing one by one in front of their parents. First they smashed the heads of the children and shouted praising Hindu Gods. Seven members of their family were also killed brutally by smashing their heads with clubs and iron roads. A crowd of 150 people were carrying clubs, iron rods, swords and country made guns. One of the members tried to call the police, immediately the gang snatched the phone and shouted aloud that 'no one will come to their rescue'. The savage incident took place in Bakingia, about 8 kilometres from Raikia police station*. This social worker is also hiding in the forest and phoned in this report, and shall remain anonymous for obvious reasons. The disingenuous attempt to deny the beauty and reality of diversity of faith, belief, and practice is is at the heart of this violence. The gentle Sufi faith which characterises the Kashmiris, the folk Islam in the Deccan, the contrapuntal faith of the Kabir panthis, the Ravidasis, the bhakti-inspired Baul tradition of Bengal, the large and diverse worship systems of the indigenous people, and the various groups of the Christian faith (which, it must be stressed, reached India within the 1st century AD,as attested by historical well-establihsed historical records), much more a part of the mosaic of the Indian identity than the harsh, strident and politically charged mainstream religious denominations including the hardline school of Islam, the so-called Hindutva, which is really fascism in the form of religion, and the minority hardline Bible-thumpers who appear to have become, ironically, the public face of the Christians, traditionally the one community which has provided the largest number of teachers, nurses, social workers and servants of the poor in proportion to its population in India, along with quality educational and medical services and training, achievers in the field of science and techology, business, sports, politics, administration, in fact, every walk of life. What is it about Christians in India that appears to inflame the emotions of these mobs? They do not even have the excuse that is often used to justify the violence against Muslims - that a small section of the community believes in and practices violence in the name of religion, even though this in no way justifies the violenceagainst the community as a whole. Will the blood of these men, women and children satisfy the blood-lust of these rampaging mobs? What will be the outcome of this carnages in the name of religion? What are the mobsters hoping to achieve? Will they really achieve those ends? What government will be able to heal hese gaping wounds in the body of our beloved motherland, inflicted by her own children, and in the name of patroitism and nationalism? Who is a true child of Bharat mata - the one who feeds, clothes and binds the wounds of the teeming millions of Daridra Narayans in

As per the latest government assessment, at least 2,400 buildings, including prayer houses and schools, have been either damaged or burnt, Kandhamal district collector Krishan Kumar said. He said sporadic incidents of violence had been reported from some villages under Tikabali police station despite the imposition night curfew in the entire district. Curfew was also clamped in Jaypore town in Koraput district after clashes between Christians and Hindus, a police official said. The communal violence erupted on the evening of Aug 23, when Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati, a member of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's (VHP) central advisory committee, and four others were killed by suspected Maoist guerrillas at his Jalespata ashram in Kandhamal. The death toll in the violence has gone up to 16 even as the government deployed police and paramilitary forces in 12 of the state's 30 districts and imposed curfew in Kandhamal. Due to the violence, thousands of villagers in Kandhamal district fled to nearby forests. Some of them are now returning and taking shelter in the relief camps set up by the administration. The district administration has set up at least 10 relief centers and 14,500 people are being sheltered there. They are being provided food and medicines, Krishan Kumar said. Fifty per cent of the people were brought by us, while the others came on their own. Today we rescued 20 children from a Christian home at Phulbani since they were feeling unsafe. A police party has gone to Raikhola village to rescue 25 old people who informed us that they want to take shelter in the relief centers, he added. Here too the BJP-BJD govt is unable to restore peace even after 7 days. While there are reports of some coercion in inducing conversions to Christianity, the assumption of Portuguese names was part of the Portuguese culture which confused religion with one's name; no more, no less. Hi Edward Methinks you are mistaken. Unless you are better informed than I, the Goans from East Africa did not go to Slough and only a few did go to the Hounslow area when they first arrived. The main concentrations were in the Tooting Bec and Manor House areas that are of course locatable on the Northern and Picadilly tube lines. However this was quite some time ago but there were also places like Plumstead, Bexleyheath and areas around Norbury, Croydon etc. I will check up with friends and let you and Selma know if we can recall other places too. It is important to note that with increasing affluence, many moved out through individual mobility rather than group mobility. The main influxes were in 1968 from Kenya and 1972 from Uganda. Besides, health care at hospitals is provided/subsidised by the taxes paid by the citizens/residents of a place. These tax-payers have a right to healthcare at those hospitals. What they do not have, are preferential rights which are also (and corruptly) afforded to Politicians and other VIPs. If everyone was afforded the same rights, privileges and service, there would actually be an improvement of service for all. The Goa Medical College started off with two very clean hospitals providing very polite service. This was inherited from the Escola Medica tradition. I saw it personally a few years after the transition took place. The Goa Medical College (according to my understanding) provided better 'medical' service than the Escola which provided better 'surgical' service. The training of the Escola graduates was more geared to surgery - probably because of their enhanced study of Anatomy. It is during the Bamdodkar years esp when Karmali was Health Minister and Duarte Monteiro was replaced that the mess started. The Goa Govt has a long history of interference with GMC. The real breaking point came with the appointment of Vengsarkar as the Dean. Much time was spent in politics eg Maharashtrian professors v South Indian professors etc. I will not comment on the accountability or lack of it wrt the origins of the Bambolim project. Goan professionals, patients and Goa took a back seat. Anna Marie Goswami please take note. These non-Goan Health Secretaries, Deans, HoDs, Professors et al who had NO clue of Goan culture and obviously NO interest in Goans and Goa (except personal) took charge of Goa, bossed the Goans and set about the rot which has taken over the Goa hospitals. With ALL the crores allegedly invested in GMC and other hospitals, the state of the hospitals and the service provided is absolutely abysmal. The places are filthy, the sheets are unclean and the staff is rude. Some of the so called professors and other senior staff are full of themselves.(I believe that Edward has alluded to this) I can tell you that from personal experience.Over the past several years, I have been to GMC and to Hospicio (Margao) on a number of occasions, incognito i.e. with chappals, very simple clothes and speaking English really badly - like many guys in Goa normally do. The reception I got at the hospitals, and what I saw ... was positively awful. I invite other netters to go incognito to test out the service. Dear Miguel, Could you please confirm that patients were actually shunted out? It is being suggested that the Herald report distorted the actual happenings. Is there any (taped) evidence to back up the reporters claims of what the Pediatrician is reported to have said? What exactly were here words? Does the reporter personally know the doctor concerned? Was she on staff at Chicalim / and on duty at the time of the incident? Or was she just being a Good Samaritan? Folks It is shocking to hear how bad things are regarding medical provision today in Goa especially in emergencies and at the supposedly prestigious Goa Medical College. Once on just arriving in Goa in the 1970s on holiday, my young children were taken very ill having eaten egg-based sandwiches on a Swiss Air flight. I had to drive like someone demented, first trying to find a recommended doctor, and then desperatly trying to obtain urgently needed prescribed drugs from any pharmacy open late at night. After endless driving on unnamed and unlit roads, I stopped at Margao Hospicio where a kindly doctor gave me the drugs free that I needed so badly. In 1990, that is some time ago, I couldn't get an ambulance, for any amount of money, to have my very sick mother to a hospital in Vasco. Even worse was that when she died, I could only get an obliging truck driver to deliver her body home in the back of his open truck. Things were bad then and I can't believe they are even worse today. For God's sake, WHY? WHY? WHY? If it is possible for a collection to be made for an up to date ambulance in Goa, I would be the first to make a financial contribution if someone will please advise on this matter. Therefore, why is Goa over four decades after 1961 so backward in the provison of such basic essentials? And do the Western tourists know about this state of affairs? Peru for instance is not particularly well off as a country but they had excellent medical facilities (ambulances, English speaking doctors, nurses, equipment, drips and drugs for every requirement) when I was in need in August 2007 in the high altitude town of Cusco. Further, as a tourist, they readily collected me (accompanied by my wife)in an excellent ambulance, in next to no time from our hotel, treated me really well and only politely enquired if I had medical travel insurance when I was ready to leave hospital. I was indeed so impressed that I invited a particular young doctor who treated me to visit me and my family in London. Cuba too, a pretty poor country, has excellent medical provisions at no cost to the people there nor to tourists. I'm afraid I am intensely angry about the awful conditions in Goa as described by several posters and I really want to do something about it even if from faraway London. Just tell me someone--anyone, what the hell can I do to be of some help however minimal. And is it really as bad as I read in the Goanet posts? Please would someone reliable that I know, like Cecil, Miguel or Frederick provide confirmation on this last point? What she really meant was that the govt ought to clamp down on popular people's movements - all this in reaction to calls by villagers to stop construction violations and land scams in our villages. And just a few months ago, she...you get the idea. What we finally got out of the Parrikar vs Parrikar session was an engaging conversation. The exchange was based on questions the content of which was almost entirely provided by Goanet readers. One could disagree intelligently (but only if one had intelligence, alas) with his positions without being disagreeable. Unfortunately for Selma and the resident pinko, most of the folks saw it that way. It was also screened on local TV several times and reached out to a wide section of the Goan audience. Selma's caricature of Manohar Parrikar as some sort of a radical or extremist Hindu had to eat crow, something that apparently sticks in her craw even today. Now, Manohar Parrikar will rise or fall based on his own deeds or misdeeds. But Selma and her rancid tribe have ZERO CREDIBILITY to make that judgement. For some of us, the crucial question right now is: Regardless of our political leanings, can Goan Hindus and Goan Catholics join hands in the struggle to reclaim Goa? Can we discard the political badges, Kangress, BJP or whatever, we have pinned to our lapels and rally for the cause of Goa? These matters, not the Selma-esque muckraking antics, ought to be our issues du jour. Without the Hindu heartland on board, Goa is done for. Likewise, without the Catholic community standing alongside, we stand no chance. In this larger struggle, bloviating, cheapshot-ing malcontents who seek to incite and divide, not unite, us Goans, are to be consigned to the garbage bin. ORISSA ANTI CHRISTIAN VIOLENCE UPDATE 25th August 2008 *By Dr. John Dayal.* 1) *NUN REPORTED BURNT ALIVE*: A Christian woman, possibly a nun, was reported burnt alive on 25th August 2008 by a group of Vishwa Hindu Parishad mob which stormed the orphanage she ran in the district of Bargarh (Orissa). Police Superintendent Ashok Biswall has told this to news reporters. A priest who was at the orphanage was also badly hurt and is now being treated in hospital for multiple burns. 2) *NUN RAPED*: A young Catholic Nun of the Cuttack Bhubaneswar diocese working Jan Vikas Kendra, the Social Service Centre at Nuagaon in Kandhamal was reportedly gang raped on 24th August 2008 by groups of Hindutva extremists before the building itself was destroyed. 3) *SENIOR PRIEST AND NUN INJURED*: Fr Thomas, director of the Diocesan Pastoral Centre in Kanjimendi, less than a kilometer away from the Social Service Centre, and another Nun were injured when the centre was attacked. They were taken to the police station in a disheveled state as the armed mob bayed for their blood. The Pastoral centre was then set afire. 4) *BALLIGUDA CHURCH BUILDINGS DESTROYED AGAIN*: On 24th August 2008. Evening lynch mobs at the block headquarters of Balliguda, in the very heart of Kandhamal district, which had seen much violence between 24th and 26th December 2007, attacked and destroyed a Presbytery, convent and hostel damaging the properties. 5) *The mobs in Balliguda* caught hold of two boys of the Catholic hostel and tonsured their heads. 6) *PHULBANI CHURCH DAMAGED*: On 25th august 2008 morning followers of the late Lakshmanananda Saraswati damaged the Catholic Church in Phulbani, the district headquarter town. 7) *MOTHER TERESA BROTHERS ASHRAM ATTACKED*: mobs attacked the Mother Teresa Brothers' residence and hospital in Srasanada, destroyed once before and rebuilt two months ago, and beat up the patients. Fundamentalists have targeted Priests, religious and also the Faithful in Pobingia also. 8) *BHUBANESWAR BISHOP'S HOUSE ATTACKED*: On the morning of 25th August 2008, violent mobs made several attempts to enter the compounds of Catholic Church and Archbishop's house in the heart of the Capital of the State of Orissa. They could not enter because of the police presence. They threw stones at the guesthouse of Archbishop's House, damaging windows. 9) *DUBURI PARISH*; Another group of fundamentalists entered presbytery in Duburi parish, managed by the SVDs and destroyed and damaged property. Two priests of the parish are missing. 10) *Mr. Jamaj Pariccha*, Director of Gramya Pragati, is attacked and his property, vehicle etc. damaged, burnt and looted. 11) *A Baptist Church* in Akamra Jila in Bhubaneswar is also damaged. 12) *Christian institutions* like St. Arnold's School (Kalinga Bihar), AND NISWASS report some damage. 13) *BOUDH DISTRICT* [Adjoining Kandhamal]: Fundamentalists enter the Catholic parish church and destroy property. People are fleeing to safer places. But nothing seems safe. 14) *Muniguda Catholic Fathers and Nuns'* residence have been damaged. 15) *Sambalpur HM Sister's residence* (Ainthapalli) has suffered damage. 16) * Padanpur*: One priest is attacked and admitted to a hospital. But thanks to divine providence, in the end, they did not do that. Otherwise, I would not have been there to tell this horror,' the 55-year-old priest, director of the pastoral center at Konjamendi in the Indian state of Orissa, told Catholic News Service in a telephone interview from his hospital bed Aug. 28. When a Hindu mob of 500 people broke into the pastoral center around noon Aug. 24, Father Chellen said he fled through the backyard with another priest and a nun. 'It was heartbreaking for us to watch from a distance the entire complex go up in smoke,' said Father Chellen, who had supervised the construction of the center that opened in 2001 and could accommodate 200 people. 'They vandalized everything and set it on fire. It has been reduced to ashes,' he added. As the three watched from a distance, some other priests told them to flee. 'We fled to the jungles and came in the night to take shelter in the house of a Hindu friend and spent the night there,' Father Chellen said, adding that the second priest left them to join other priests. The following morning, he said, the Hindu family moved the priest and nun to an adjacent vacant house and locked it to give the impression that no one was inside. However, the Hindu mobs overheard the priest speaking on his cell phone, broke into the room and dragged him and the nun outside. 'They began our crucifixion parade,' said Father Chellen. 'Later both of us, half-naked, were taken to the street, and they ordered me to have sex with the nun in public, saying nuns and priests do it. As I refused, they went on beating me and dragged us to the nearby government office. Sadly, a dozen policemen were watching all this,' he said. Later, a government official and members of the mob took the priest and the nun to the police station, where Father Chellen said he was kicked in the face. The Ganesh festival always makes me feel nostalgic. As a very young girl, I remember being invited with my family to the different Hindu homes in the village to see the deity. We would be given lovely ladoos, full of of cashew seeds which was a great specialty at the time. It was always something to look forward to. During Christmas, the Hindu women from the village would come to my home to help us, mats would be spread on the large dining floor and each women would be given a latni chappati rolling board. This was for making the neuris. The fillings would be delightful, some with coconut, sugar, vanilla essence and the others with rava, sugar, elaichi, nuts etc. Our housemaid would be deep frying the neuris. Goan folk songs would be sung at which my grandaunt was an expert. It was such a great feeling of communal harmony that up till this day I treat persons of all communities with respect. Exploiting the fear and helplessness of villagers, reconversions are taking place. But switching sides can only offer a temporary truce. Peace continues to be a fugitive in Kandhmal. With the administration moving slowly in tackling the crisis, senior police sources say both the Hindus and the Christians are arming themselves in case of a backlash. The church is against violence. We want peace. We can never support these attacks but how can we deny anyone who wants to protect himself? The government has failed to do anything for us and today, minority is being ruled by the mob, said Archbishop Raphael Cheenath. Now, I hate amusements parks. To me there is nothing as hideous as amusement parks, but leaving that aside, aren't we really being taken for a ride? Pardon the pun. Do businesses in Goa have the wherewithal to finance golf-clubs and amusement parks? The answer is NO. So, we will partner with foreign companies, which may be Indian, Arabian or even Singaporean. After all, foreign investment is welcome in India. So what special status are we talking about? Wheel-chairs of a design of the 1930s - just a metal chair with wheels attached, heavy, difficult to maneuvre, no padding. Ditto with stretchers. Could add more, but I refrain. Asilo of Mapuça is another story. Have you walked / biked / driven past the Asilo hospital? Last time I did, there were raw bloodied bandages outside covered in blue-bottle files, smell of anitibiotic everywhere, a prime location for infection if there was one. Compare that to the previous Hospital de Ribandar and Hospital Escolar, if you have contacts with any people who were treated there in the early 60s. Elroy the Brdbrain, who was repeating the F.Y.B.Magic class for the third year, and was famous for asking stupid questions, blurted out,Why is Caru called Grook? Shushil looked at Birdbrain with some respect. You know Elroy, I think you have something there. The students are getting cynical about being offered freebies all the time. If we do as you say, the girls would feel much safer. They would be sure to support us. Margan who had a lot of knowledge on subjects such as these, said cynically,Hannh!! You think it will make any difference? Forget it. Don't you know who manages our college? Elroy said,The Dumbos. Continued Margan,Exactly. And do you know what happened at The Novo Portugal Times, which is owned by the Dumbos, who own our college? The Birdbrain asked,What happened?
