Re: Closed Source Project

2013-11-19 Thread cprcrack
I'm the author of the project. I can't believe you closed the project without
any notice. The wiki page is linked from my software and you are causing a big
problem to about 140.000 users. I'm getting several hundreds of emails because
of this.

The fact that not having a Source tab is intentional doesn't mean it's not an
open source project. It's been open source for two years and it IS open source.
I answered you that you could ask me if you needed the source code at the
moment.

The code of the last version is not yet ready to be published, and it will
probably take some time. And I would like to make it public in my own site. I
only opened the project for wiki and issue tracking. But again, the project IS
open source (and has been for about two years).

So PLEASE, open my project again as soon as possible. I hope that I didn't
loose everything. Or at least open it for one week so that my users (regular
people who are in trouble because of your unnotified action) don't pay for it,
my goodness.

Re: Closed Source Project

2013-11-19 Thread Omar Jarjur
It's OK to use a Google Code project for just issue tracking and wiki for
an open source project that is hosted elsewhere.

However, a binary-only project does not qualify as Open Source. No where on
the site linked to from the project page is there any documentation on how
to get the source code for the project. Furthermore, the original reporter
filed an issue asking for the source code, and you did not provide it.

If you fix the issue by providing the source code somewhere with clear
documentation on how to get it, and respond to this thread saying you have
done so, then I will unban you and your project. Until then, this project
is a clear violation of our terms of service, and we take those violations
very seriously.

You can use Google Project Hosting so long as your source code is open

You're welcome to distribute your product for no charge to the world

then you may not use Google Code (or Sourceforge) for your hosting.

Free (or Adware) is not the same than open source. All us look at
Google code for Open Source projects, not for free software.
Really MediaCoder is great, and you can choose any license you prefer,
I have nothing to say to that but respect it as it is your work. Just
have to be remember that you cannot host it on Open Source sites. I
would recommend you to open your source code which will benefit all
the community and also will benefit the project with other developers
improvements and bugfixes.

This is just my opinion.
