So now answers for my questions in previous message are important.
What happens with memvars (public and private variables)
created in different situations. The description in xbase++ is
not precise enough so it will be necessary to create some
additional test code if no one knows the answers.

My vote and supplication for private variable is :
- Private variable created in thread can be differ in differ thread
Or
- Private variable begining with special character ( for example with $)
can be differ in differ thread

Hi All,

[...]

2. CRITICAL FUNCTION|PROCEDURE
   I recently wrote about them message to Marek Horodyski and
I said that
   they do not give any new functionality in comparison to
explicit use of

[ ... ]

 like:
 proc p()
static s_mtx := hb_mutexCreate()
hb_mutexLock()
[...do sth...]
hb_mutexUnlock()
[ ... ]

Both modifications are similar but they are not fully
replaceable so I want to introduce both.

best regards,
Przemek

Przemek, how can I write this :

Function appServer( appName) // for example appName is 'RAPORT_024'
Static appStorage := {} // this variable can be ohne for all thread,
like CLASS STATIC VARIABLE

Local n, x, c := Upper( appName), succes := .f., lapp // lapp is local
array with structure of appName: {appname, {...}}

If ( n := Ascan( appStorage, {|x| x[1] == c})) != 0
   Return appStorage[ n]
Else
   // begin sequence
  Semaphore( c, 1)// or maby better create with lock
: While !LockSemphore( c) ; End
  If ( n := Ascan( appStorage, {|x| x[1] == c})) != 0
 Semaphore( c, 0)
 Return appStorage[ n]
  Else
 * [ here search and compile this app to lapp := {}]
 lapp := SearchAndCompile( c, succes)
 If succes ; AADD( appStorage, lapp) ; n := Len( appStorage)
 End
 Semaphore( c, 0)
 If n != 0 ; Return appStorage[ n]
 Else
  LogCompileErrorWithParam( c, ...)
  Return Nil
 End
  End
  // End Sequece
End
//--

How can I get guarante to execute this proces ( fragment of proces) from
ohne thread with unique parameter ?
This is much better than CRITICAL FUNCTION.
Can I create with lock hb_mutexCreate(), e.g. so :
hb_mutexCreate( appName) or similarly ?
My know about work with mutex is very little.
With semaphore I can lock action BEFORE control search.

As I said it's not ready for production ( and we're not sure
it'll ever be ) for the moment is a proof of concept. We were
waiting for MT since having hundreds of ports ( f.e. 100 users
and 5 exes ) is a security nightmare. Now we hope we can have
only one exe and one port and 500 threads but we're not sure
it'll be possible. We need 24x7x365 reliability.

I hope I was clear enough.

Now one new thread (with own GT and RDD) in Harbour chuck ca. 100 kb.
RAM (and not groved for session). It is more (not many) than session in
php http serwer, but in contrast harbour client has own GT. See what
make Google Chrome - one process on my computer has 2,5 to 35 Mb !
For test I have run hundred browses on thread from Harbour (1Gb Ram on
XP Prof.), and cost for this is c.a. 14Mb ram! It probably will less
when terminal window will on other-client computer. It is beautiful and
giv big promise.

BTW, new cart from GoogleChrome giv on stack process new process (one
aplicaction have many process).
New thread from Harbour giv new aplicattion and process stil one (one
process have many aplication).

TCP/IP is net protocol. For example, old versions ADS use (can work only
on) IPX/SPX protocol.
I have not experience with LetoDB.

Hi,

I do not have OW compiler. You should find docs about OW
compiler command line switches and try to run it. Later fix
compile time warnings and errors, if compiler will generate it.

When add 2 lines in hbmk :

  wpp386 -j -w3 -5s -5r -fp5 -oxehtz -zq -zt0 -mf -bt=NT %C_USR%
%_HB_PRG_NAME%.c -fo=%_HB_PRG_NAME%.obj
Here -  wpp386 -j -w3 -5s -5r -fp5 -oxehtz -zq -zt0 -mf -bt=NT
socket.c -fo=socket.obj
  echo OP osn=NT OP stack=65536 OP CASEEXACT %L_USR% NAME
%_HB_PRG_NAME%.exe  _hb_mk.tmp
  echo FILE %_HB_PRG_NAME%.obj  _hb_mk.tmp
And here -  echo FILE socket.obj  _hb_mk.tmp
  echo LIBP C:\harbour\lib\w32\owatcom  _hb_mk.tmp

I can compile and run it. But this bat file is now only to utttpd files.

Viktor, in cguide.hlp file from OW 1.8 we can read :

The macros described below may be used to identify the target system for
which the application is being compiled. (Note: In several places in
the following text, a pair of underscore characters appears as __ which
resembles a single, elongated underscore.)

The Open Watcom C/C++ compilers support both 16-bit and 32-bit
application development. The following macros are defined for 16-bit
and 32-bit target systems.

  16-bit  32-bit

 _M_IX86 _M_IX86
Notes:
1. The __X86__ identifies the target as an Intel environment.

4. The _M_IX86 macro is identically equal to 100 times the
architecture compiler option value (/0, /1, /2, /3, /4, /5, etc.).  If
/5 (Pentium instruction timings) was specified as a compiler option,
then the value of _M_IX86 would be 500.
The Open Watcom C/C++ compilers support application development for a
variety of operating systems. The following macros are defined for
particular target operating systems.

I'm getting the same. Didn't try to run it like this since

Overall I recommend the msys way. It feels much more

Pritpal, can you resolve this ?
Maby in gtwvg.h or wvggui.h ?

I haven't tested owatcom, so current support is a rough
addition based on hbmk.bat, where owatcom support
was also not working properly. If you want to experiment,
you can try changing util/hbmk/hbmk2.prg line #769
from:
 cOpt_Link := OP osn=NT OP stack=65536 OP CASEEXACT {OPTL}
NAME {E} {O} {L}
to
 cOpt_Link := OP osn=NT OP stack=65536 OP CASEEXACT {OPTL}
NAME {E} {O} {L}{SCRIPT}

I don't see difference between hbmk.bat and exe from hbmk/hbmk2[.prg].
Waiting until this is be solved in the project.

Yes or maby. I dont't can rules after run make_gnu.bat.
Now in bin subfolder have I :

╔═══ c:\harbour\bin ═══[]═╗

║hbmk2   exe│   517120│20-02-09│11:40│ ▒

I make again this process, without einvirnment variables in shell (command,
CMD, ndn) :

rem set HB_BIN_INSTALL=C:\harbour\bin
rem set HB_LIB_INSTALL=C:\harbour\lib
rem set HB_INC_INSTALL=C:\harbour\include

Because in make_gnu.bat char '\' is defined as '/' :
if %HB_INC_INSTALL% ==  set HB_INC_INSTALL=%HB_INSTALL_PREFIX%/include

And result after make_gnu clean is :
c:\harbourset hb_
HB_ARCHITECTURE=win
HB_COMPILER=owatcom

c:\harbourmake_gnu.bat

Hi Marek,

You seem to be using an older version of hbmk.

Maybe you forgot to do 'make install'. Do it first
then try this in contrib/gtwvg/tests dir:

..\..\..\bin\hbmk2 demowvg.prg

Brgds,
Viktor

I have repeated the whole process from scratch, and now I have test
applications DEMOWVG.EXE.
After ..\..\..\bin\hbmk2 demowvg and ..\..\..\bin\hbmk2 -gui demowvg.
But DEMOGTWVT don't start. It after run stay as blank screen :(

As far as I remember, a month ack this error was non existant

I tried above solution but it did not help.

Did you find the solution?

Hi Pritpal

I too could compile and run demowvg.prg. GTWVG does not work only with
the extensions.
I change GT to the GTWVT, like Viktor inquired.
I not noticed that GTWVT is left and went from contrib to the
core\source\rtl.
I do not need to use GTWVG. My C and English is virtually, so that a
solution is not my level :).

It does not hang. At least 1.8 I tested with Wine. It only
needs a lot of time to finish compilation. On slow computer it
can be more then an hour. Probably due to i+ in optimization
flags but I haven't tested it.

You are right, it not hang. AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 1800 Mhz with 1Gb Ram

During the compilation takes 1 hour, then moves on. It looks like a
standing position on one instruction.
Very strange.

[Harbour] Optimization

2009-05-12 Thread Horodyski Marek (PZUZ)
In my app one expression is very often done.
Due to the saving of memory, important of information is in string, not
in array.
In xHarbour, this instruction was :

If  hb_isNumeric( l := tab_prg[ n]:Eval()) .and. tab_skok[ n] == '1'

In Harbour ( withot indexed strings) now I have :

If hb_isNumeric( l := tab_prg[ n]:Eval()) .and. StrPeek( tab_skok, n) ==
49 // 0x31

Speed of evaluation in Hanbour is 2 times faster than in xHarbour, but
my ask is, can I this more speed ?

The same is for many other constructions, f.e.:

  l *= 10

 if f2(i)
exit // but I want to exit from WHILE not only from FOR
 endif
  next
   enddo

You can write the same also about nest statments like:

   for i := 1 to 10
  for j := 1 to 20
 if f( i, j )
exit // but I want to exit from external FOR i :=
... loop too
 endif
  next
   next

In short words you are requesting about GOTO instruction which
introduces to compiler serious limitations or at least
additional code necessary to make it working correctly with
statements which needs to allocate and then free some
resources. It's rather bad idea.

This is not comparable. Exit was escape from loop without control
expression, loop with control.
Now, when mixed syntax switch and any while/for we still heve LOOP
inside switch, but EXIT no longer.
EXIT in the sense : escape from a loop.
In this case word Exit important changes.

My example for workaround :

Local lExit := .f., i := 1

While !lExit
 ... // designate i
 Switch i
 Case 2
   ... // designate lExit
   Loop
 Case 3
...
Exit
 Case 4

 End
End

Hm, maby this is ok.. In C is to only break and continue.

Hi,

I see a few new features under GCC: hbvmall, I see a new
discussions about HB_STRICT_ALIGNMENT, etc. So, I decided to
do some new speed tests BCC vs GCC. BCC was winning long time
ago (before dlmalloc).

[ ... ]

BCC  MinGW 4.4.0
Test execution69.58 / 73.9057.77 / 59.98
speedtst.exe size622592 1090648 (903680 stripped)
Harbour build   4min 47sec  29min 15sec

So, GCC is 17% faster execution, 45% larger executable, 6.11
times longer compilation.

Mindaugas,
speed and size that's not all. We must also look at the quality.
Try run this code on different environment :

*--
Function main()
local i, nd := 0.0, nd1 := 1.1
Cls
? nd
for i := 1 to 30
  nd := nd + nd1
next
for i := 1 to 30
  nd := nd - nd1
next

? nd
for i := 1 to 1
  nd := nd * nd1
next
? nd, ValType( nd), nd 0.01
return Nil
*---

On OpenWatcom it is correctly executet, and on BCC (I do not know how
the MinGW) ?
