[HCDX] hard- or soft core My Two cents of grain
Good morning to all my colleagues at HCDX. During all these years, I have to admit that HCDX has been a tremendous source of learning and information to me for all the things I read, not only here at the FORUM but for the great web page they have. I have been an active member of this respected FORUM for quite a long time already and I tend to read almost everything that is posted daily with great interest. There might be of course, certain things or matters that I feel I don't want to read for, just any particular reason; those things, I just simply delete . It is my opinion that everything posted, has its importance. Simple things, questions , issues , postings as well as, more deeper and or controversial matters that are very important too. Prior to any posting, there is people out there that have dedicated time to: research, to read, learn to listen. People that have devoted time to participate and be part y of the FORUM, each one on its own simple or experienced manner. I truly believe that as long as there is: great respect for all of us, a great sense of respect for the FORUM itself and its perpetuation, everyone must be given a fair chance to participate. Should this be one of those ELITE groups, Id be the first one to leave at once. For a few weeks already , I have been reading some writings here that I have to admit I feel have been somehow rude, unfair and impolite . Today however, I have just read an interesting comment posted by Mr. FRED WEIDEMA PA0FAW from the NETHERLANDS and I truly agree with him. Lets give all people a chance to participate, to grow, to learn within the process and please by all means let the sour criticism stop once and forever. Not doing so, will only contribute to pull people out of the FORUM and discourage others to join. Thanks Fred Widema for your kind words; I wish there would be more people like you out there. Re: [HCDX] hard- or soft core My Two cents of grain
As someone who was a very active DXer during the 70's and 80's, and also worked on WRTH for almost 20 years, I think I am qualified to comment here. I too have been saddened by the apparent lack of tolerance for those who, for whatever reason, are not hard core DXers. What you guys have to face up to is that traditional DXing will die unless you attract new people into the hobby. The way for people to become hard core DXers is to join groups like this, and learn from the more experienced members. One sure way to scare them off is to make sarcastic comments about their contributions. I have seen this on numerous occasions down the years - in some cases it has resulted in a DX Club splitting into two factions. I belong to a number of radio-related mailing lists. A lot of the stuff I see is of no interest or value to me personally, so I ignore the message and move on. This is a moderated list, which means that everything that appears on it has been approved by the person who does the hard work of running the list. Comments that imply certain messages shouldn't have been posted are an insult to the moderator as well as the person who posted it. Please get back to sharing rather than criticising. Re: [HCDX] hard- or soft core My Two cents of grain
There is also the excellent log database connected with this list at log.hard-core-dx.com , I don't understand why people don't use it more. After each day all the loggings will be presented automitacally on automatically and in an organized way, so there would be only one post instead of many: still less to complain about. And in this way all the loggings will be saved in the database and quick searches can be done, too. Good DX, whatever it means for each of us! Prasar Bharati bats for private radio (Friday, Jan 27, 2006 - 06:00 am) Televisionpoint.com Team Prasar Bharati CEO K S Sarma on Thursday said that private radio stations should be allowed to broadcast news and current affairs programmes. This is a departure from the current norm where only infotainment programmes are allowed to be broadcast. The government must allow private radio stations to broadcast news and current affairs programmes since radio can reach more people than any other medium,'' he said. Describing the guidelines under which private radio stations cannot broadcast news or news programmes as illogical'', Sarma said, There is no such restriction in force regarding television channels.'' He asked: If we can see news on private TV channels, why can't we hear it on radio?'' The government must allow private radio stations to broadcast news and current affairs programmes since radio can reach more people than any other medium, he said on private radio stations and their popularity. [HCDX] Chinese Radio Begins Transmission in Kenya
Chinese Radio Begins Transmission in Kenya By Cathy Majtenyi Nairobi 27 January 2006 State-run China Radio International Friday launched its FM station in the Kenyan capital. The move is seen as a way for the Asian country to have a greater influence in Africa. The station is transmitting 19 hours of programming in English, Kiswahili (the language widely spoken in East Africa) and standard Chinese. China Radio International director Wang Gengnian said in a statement the station will broadcast the latest news from China and around the world and the latest on friendly exchanges between China and Kenya. Kodi Barth is a journalism lecturer at the United States International University in Nairobi and writes a column about the media in one of Kenya's daily newspapers. He tells VOA that he believes the new radio station is connected with China's increasing economic activities and interests in Kenya and the rest of East Africa. Barth says Kenyans may initially tune into the station out of curiosity, but will have trouble competing with Voice of America, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), and other foreign heavyweights. Historically Kenyans seem to identify with the BBC, he said. I think they occupy a market that's hard to beat, maybe because of Kenya's history with Britain. The Voice of America also, Kenyans tend to turn to VOA when they're looking for what they regard as independent analysis of their country. Now I don't see that happening with the Chinese radio, maybe because Kenyans haven't perceived the Chinese as interested in democratic space or independent views. China has been steadily increasing its influence and economic activity in Africa over the past years. The Trade Law Center for Southern Africa estimates trade volume between China and African countries in 2005 at over $37 billion (U.S.), a record high and a sharp increase over the previous year's less than $30 billion (U.S.). Much of this was due to increased exports of oil to China, particularly from Sudan. The Trade Law center adds that in the period, China imported more goods and services from African countries than it exported to them and that Chinese investment in Africa is also expanding rapidly. Official statistics show that in the first 10 months of 2005, Chinese companies invested a total of $175 million in African countries. Investments went into a wide range of areas, including trade, resource development, transport, agriculture and processing of farm products. Kenya and China signed a number of agreements during Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki's trip to China in August last year. Via www.voanews.com/ Regards 73s Mukesh Kumar MUZAFFARPUR INDIA. __ Yahoo! [HCDX] Safety, Urgency, and Distress Calls(WUN maritime)
Another article frm an older WUN issue === Safety, Urgency, and Distress Calls: Maritime monitors often encounter transmissions that are preceded by special urgency signals. Here are the definitions of the terms used when unusual circumstances dictate. DISTRESS: MAYDAY, spoken three times, indicates that a vessel is threatened by grave and imminent danger and commands absolute priority over all other communications. URGENCY: PAN PAN, spoken three times, indicates the safety of a vessel or a person is in jeopardy, e.g. an urgent radio-medical message, man overboard or engine failed, request tow. Only distress calls command a higher priority. SAFETY: SECURITE (pronounced SAY-CURE-E-TAY) spoken three times, indicates a message that concerns the safety of navigation or an important weather warning. Radiotelephone Silence Periods occur on the International Calling and Distress Frequencies commencing on the hour and half hour for a duration of three minutes. All stations MUST CEASE transmission on 2182, 4125, 6215, 8291, 12290, and 16420 kHz and listen for any distress calls.- NEW WEB PAGES on my site -Pieria-TV.html : my TV channel in Katerini -ths-trans.html Transmission sites in Thessaloniki -TVRO.html: Important TVRO instrallations ( big file+pics) -DE1103.html etc 1102 /PL200 /1103 comparative results -Bolong.html a test o old Bolong radio -Thesfm.htm Update on Fm on thessaloniki -De808A.html , my new MP3 player -mp3_comp2.htm new comparison of MP3/WMA codecs -- Please do not send mesages above 400 kB Zacharias Liangas , Thessaloniki Greece greekdx @ otenet dot gr --- www.geocities.com/zliangas Pesawat penerima: ICOM R75 , Lowe HF150 , Degen 1102,1103,108, Tecsun PL200/550, Chibo c300/c979, Yupi 7000 Antenna: 16m hor, 2x16 m V invert, 1m australian loop ---[Start Commercial]- World Radio TV Handbook 2006 is out.
